Teaching children to tell the truth is sometimes difficult. Especially when people they admire are pros at twisting the facts. Politicians lie, celebrities lie, sports stars lie, and even those closest to the youngest members of society often think a fib now and then is okay. Lying always manages to catch up with the liar, however.

The VeggieTales can always be counted on to reinforce not only biblical teachings, but characteristics that make society better as a whole. Lying, explains Dad Asparagus, hurts not only others but the liar as well. If lying becomes a habit, others will no longer trust the person prone to lying. If only the leaders of our country could learn as easily as Junior does that lying is bad and causes harm, the country would perhaps be in a much better situation. All is resolved by the end of the story, but Junior still faces the consequences of his lies by missing his favorite telelvision show.

The illustrations and text are classic VeggieTales. Larry is always a little behind in comprehending what is really happening and Bob is there to steer him in the right direction. When Larry plans to dust for fingerprints, for example, Bob must remind him that vegetables don't have fingers. Once again, the villains of the story are a giant zucchini and two peas.
