IT ALL BEGAN AT A SECURITY CHECKPOINT
I enjoyed this clean Christian based story that is an addition to the contemporary Lawkeepers series and also one of the K-9 stories. There is a great cast of characters along with two special people and some of their personal issues that will become involved in a relationship. The story is clean with Christian principles, faith, but isn’t preachy.
Melanie Strow, a high school geometry teacher, will take a cruise with several co-workers during the summer break, but it is anything but fun for her. She will be ill with motion sickness and a parasite the entire cruise, and then at the customs inspection, her world will take a nose-diving, leading to her arrest and hospitalization.
Officer Jason Wild, along with his K-9 partner, Sheba, and another officer, Rick Martin, will see Melanie leave the line right before she is to pass through customs, but what has them alerted is the diaper bag near her that has been abandoned.
The plot will have Melanie on a miserable cruise where she is deathly ill, and back at port, things go from bad to worse, having her arrested and rushed to the hospital. How could anyone believe she was a drug smuggler? Why is Officer Wild staying with her and then offering to help her when she leaves the hospital to retrieve her car from the airport? There is so much angst, confusion, a matter of correcting a legal issue, and making things right. Two people, meeting under dire circumstances, with less than stellar situations, will change over time to friendship, courtship, and eventually love.
“She’d always believed in finding her path in the Lord’s plan, but could it be that maybe this had all happened for a reason? How else would she have the chance to meet him?”
A sweet courtship will ensue with Melanie and Jason, two people who have the respect and mannerisms of someone from the fifties. Even strangers comment on the attraction between them. But what happens when tragedy strikes? Life as a police officer comes with danger, and they will see that first hand in a close friend. Is it better to not take a chance or accept that life must be lived and enjoyed one day at a time?
“But if you live worrying about the worst that could happen? Then you can’t see what’s right in front of you. A man that is falling for you,” he whispered gently.
“I’m terribly worried and concerned right now, but always here for you. I also believe that we are guided by a higher hand. And deep down inside, I can’t believe that He would let me meet someone that seems so right, so perfect, only to take him away.”
The story includes remembering people from our past, accepting change, and dealing with loss. It is also a great lesson in living life and accepting that sometimes bad things happen to good people. Each day is a gift that needs to be lived and cherished. It is a great example of how precious life is, and how we each need to live our life to the fullest. No one has a guarantee for tomorrow.
“Neither one had answers of what the future could hold, nor did they want to see if they had the faith required. It was just a matter of whether or not they would take the next steps, if they even could, or would if fear would hold them back.”
“Fiercely loyal, fiercely loving. They’d met at security, and this seemed so fitting, so right. I’m waiting on you. But then again, I’d wait for you forever.”
