David Levine Ellis, harbored a dark secret -- a childhood of abuse at the hands of a child-molesting, anti-Semitic father who professed to be a born-again Christian. David's pain was the key to his power. David had to expose to the light the wounds his father and grandfather bore, and the weapons they used to defend themselves. This is the story of extraordinary forgiveness and discovery.
There were some really excellent parts of this book. David's journey of forgiveness to his father and others was remarkable. There were also some gaping holes. How does someone with that kind of horrific abuse in his life go on to become a successful minister before understanding true forgiveness? And why would he want to when his personal experience was so awful. Yes, he saw "The Light" when he was twelve, but what happened to him during the army? Why did he go to seminary where he met his wife. These things didn't add up. It was very "feel good" when so much turns out well in the end. However, there was a lot of mysticism and angelic intervention. Yes, I believe angels walk among us. No, I don't believe they tell us that fact. I thought the use of those devices was "cheating" and made an otherwise believable book less so.
If you are a stickler on grammar and sentence structure, you are going to find some issues, but if you are looking for a story that can help bring healing to an unforgiving heart, you have to read this book. It is one of my go to books when counseling friends on hard heart issues, such as abusive relationships or feelings of guilt for not trusting God with your most vulnerable painful memories. The story is beautiful and unique covering a plethora of issues Christians face.
Great Book. I wish I had read it years ago, all is in his timing
I have never read a book that has touched my heart as much as this book has. This was truly Abba's timing for this phase of my journey with him. I pray this book will touch the heart of all who have read this book and all who will as much as it has touched mine. God Bless.
Wow!! Idk what to even say about this book! It had me taking pictures of some of the quotes and prayers that I could put to my own life. The story behind it had me questioning somethings but really put it into a godly perspective I guess is the words I'm looking for.
The book reminded me of when I was very young and probably in nursery school. I think I used my name as a mantra to contact the spiritual realm. That’s all I remember and once I got older I was never able to make contact again.
Seriously a great read about forgiveness, finding who you are and overcoming your dark past. I just can't believe it took me so long to actually get to reading this. Great story!
