Music and longing collide in this ballad of unrequited love!
Nino Arisugawa, a girl who loves to sing, experiences her first heart-wrenching goodbye when her beloved childhood friend, Momo, moves away. And after Nino befriends Yuzu, a music composer, she experiences another sad parting! Luckily, Nino reunites with Momo and Yuzu in high school, but things haven’t played out the way anyone expected…
The new school year brings major changes—namely, Nino is in a relationship with Momo, and she hasn’t seen Yuzu in months. Where has Yuzu gone off to? And can the remaining members of the Pop Music Club keep it together without him?
So, Momo and Nino get together and Yuzu disappears for several months, and we get a three month time skip to start with. I am not a huge fan of Nino and Momo as a couple. Momo is not mean anymore but they just don't quite fit to me. We get a new member of Pop Music Club as well, who may be just what Kuro needs to get over Ui. Yuzu comes back and we get an explanation of why he left, and it's pretty sad. Overall, this did not feel like it did much plot wise or character wise... The art was decent and we did have some good monologues soooo....
If I thought the last one was an emotional roller coaster, this one takes the cake! LOL!
That opening was HARD! Not because it was bad or anything like that! Just so so so tough seeing how everyone is reacting to the news about Yuzu and how everyone is hurting in some way. Throw in some bittersweet moments (because YAY! Nino and Mom are dating, but WAH! Yuzu is gone!) and a whole lot of heartbreak that involves singing and this volume really just rips at your heartstrings.
While Nino and Momo are dating I am thankful that their romance still isn't the focus. This story is still about Nino and her musical journey (that heavily involves romance LOL) and that's what I continue to want. However, even with that said, I am glad that not everything is peachy for Nino in the romance department. I'm glad those two are growing as a couple and the need for good communication without a bunch of drama.
I LOVE the new character that the mangaka hinted at in one of her columns in the previous volume! They are so much fun and totally already shipping them with a certain someone! LOL! Seriously though, they are awesome and really enjoyed their personality and how they enjoy playing/making music with these characters.
Also, I loved the end as well! Momo has come SO far and I'm just so glad he spoke out to Miou and that they were real with one another. It was such a great and impactful moment. (And hurrah to Haruyoshi for getting involved. LOL!)
Overall, I really really continue to enjoy this series. This took a turn I didn't expect and just really hope things up look for Alice and Yuzu, though mainly Alice. I can't even imagine how much she is hurting after losing a huge part of herself. I'm glad that she is going to keep fighting though and hope that her friends can help her along the way! <3
Ngl, after the Tokyo Tour arc the story has been turning sour.... I really dislike how Fukuyama treats Yuzu like some sidepiece. And now Nino's gonna "use" him again? Naw. I won't have it. My biggest wish to see for the next volumes would be to see some character development into all the characters here because as of now, I'm really exasperated at how they're all being treated. Overall this volume wasn't really good, and I'm really just hoping for something good to come on the next volumes.
Yuzu has been missing for three months and the band is falling apart. His dad's remains were found and his mother still hasn't accepted that he's dead. Nino can't sing and her guitar playing is crap. They play again for the school assembly at the start of the new year and end up getting a new bassist for the Pop club, an odd first year girl named Hashito Yaruno who Ayumi is kind of falling for. Nino gets jealous of the girl's in Momo's class and later makes a scene, and Momo's response is a little creepy tbh. The band is going to be playing a live circuit called Tokyo Sailing with Silent Black Kitty. Momo asks Yuzu to let Alice guest star on a Silent Black Kitty song, to which Yuzu finally pops back up again and tells him "Hell no!". Nino begs Yuzu to help her sing again, and he reluctantly agrees. Haru tells Momo that Miou is pissed at him for asking Alice to be guest vocalist and that she wants to quit. He begs her to stay for real. Recommended for ages 14+, 4 stars.
Nino and Momo definitely have some insecurities to work out, and need to learn how to be together in a healthy, supportive way. But even more so, maybe my issue now is that Nino needs to be more self-motivated? Hmm. Still, they did make some strides here that show improvement, and I can only hope they continue to get stronger.
Music-wise, Nino’s psychological music block is putting a damper on things. While I understand it takes time to find your sound, I do feel bad for In No Hurry. The previous volumes made it seem like she found another purpose for singing (the audience) and that she could finally go off on her own, but alas that’s not the case. I’m happy for Silent Black Kitty, though, and that they’ve gotten stronger as a band. Miou might actually be my favorite character... but I’m not entirely sure yet.
But I’m really liking An so far! What am interesting new character to throw in there.
My takeaway from the installment is that Momo should've known better. I guess he didn't know about Miou's complex about Nino, and how everyone compares her to Nino, and how that just leads back to Yuzu, but I like how it tied together. Momo explained to Miou, that he did need her in Black Kitty, and now the groups can go back to being in their little battle. The triangle is no longer a triangle so much, although Nino still has a place for Yuzu in her heart. It's like how the last book cleared up, Nino will always feel something for Yuzu, it's just not love. It's bigger than that, and I think its perfect that way. Although, I guess, as Yuzu is the second lead, you can sympathise for him, because Nino puts him spots where he feels he has to care for her, more than he'd like, and that makes it hard for him, for them to just be 'friends'. I'm interested to know, where this will lead to.

"All our awkwardness... All our fear... All in the service of just one thing. Protection."
The thing about this love triangle that annoys me is the girl in the middle (Nino/Alice) shows so little power. When she's on stage as Alice, she can scream her head off. But when she's Nino, she seems to have no say over what happens around her. The 2 boys (Momo & Yuzu) come and go as they please and shout things like "I'm not going to let you have her!" even while they're on the way out of town. Something's got to give so she can stand up and make her own decision. She needs to boss them around. She needs to follow her heart... but it keeps leading her down 2 roads at the same time.
Well, I'm sucked in and can't stop reading now. Nino's voice...I understand entirely this situation.
True story: I used to write these really long amazing fantasy novels during NaNoWriMo - complex and full of all the emotions I was so careful to suppress in my daily life with abusive ex (back when we were still together). Now, years later I'm so incredibly happy in my life and in my relationship and it's a struggle to write...there is something to be said for the art which comes out of unhappiness and striving. I'm so curious to see what the solution is for Nino. Will she ever sing again the way she used to?
Yuzu...my heart is breaking. I need more volumes of this story RIGHT NOW!
As I get further with these series I find it hard what to say about them without repeating myself, especially when the quality of the volumes is consistent. This was another good volume and I liked the way the plot continued, though I would have liked some more time at school (we are going into another tour arc in coming chapters it seems). Again, this volume was missing the character/plot summary at the beginning, so I am glad that I came from just reading volume 11. It is not something i would subtract stars for though.
2.5 Stars. The first half really suffered without Yuzu, and I'm not a big fan of transition volumes like this one. It also didn't help that I couldn't remember what happened at the end of #11, so much so I wondered if I'd accidentally missed reading it. Might read the next volume, but all the weepy drama is getting rather tedious...
This was a really interesting volume! It had a different vibe to it from previous ones, but I kind of liked it. I also really enjoyed the new girl who was introduced into the storyline!
But…I still don’t really like Momo—and I definitely don’t like him and Nino together.
With the way this story is going, that might be a problem.
Still keeping my position that Yuzu is best boy. He really is the impetus of the entire series. I also want to state my plea here to not throw some random new girl character in to match him up with (that's already happening with Kuro, or so it seems, - which I don't mind).
This book is either leaning hard into an unhelpful trope this whole time, or the author has something to say about this [issue] because it's becoming unmistakably clear that's what he's talking about.
Oh wow this volume is just straight drama. Relationships are falling apart, friendships are falling apart, In NO Hurry is falling apart, even Black Kitty almost fell apart for a moment there. This volume does some of the set up work for the following volumes but it just isn't as good on it's own.
Momo’s mom probably went through a lot because of his horrible husband, but making your son a money tree doesn’t sit right with me.
Oh, Haruyoshi’s mad at Yuzu for his disappearance because he didn’t talk to anyone before doing so. I get it. I will be a bit mad, too.
Wow, 3 months and Nino’s already going crazy about Yuzu’s memories; so, it makes the heart go fonder? Wow!
Momo misdialed Yuzu’s number and had a dramatic breakdown, but it turned out to be Nino was hilarious!
The new blood bass player looks interesting👀
Maybe the reason why Momo was so mad at Yuzu was because Nino sings Yuzu’s music, but she never sang Momo’s music.
Wah! I couldn’t believe my eyes. It was as if Nino liked the chase and then she got Momo, so no yearning anymore. Did she change her mind about him? After all those years?
What Momo said to Miou was that he chose her because she sounds like Alice was disheartening for a singer.
As usual, I loved the Volume. Thank you so much, Ryoko for creating this manga💕

I liked this volume but I have to admit that Momo seriously annoyed me. So happy with how the volume ended because there is going to be A LOT of drama going forward!
