I am originally from a small town in northeast Indiana. Typical introvert kid; closer to books than people — grew up with a fascination for horror novels (Stephen King, Dean Koontz) and medieval fantasy (Piers Anthony, R.A Salvatore).

In April of 1996, I moved out on my own to Phoenix, Arizona to find my own path.

On a personal level, I have been married to my wonderful wife, Erika since October 10th, 2012. I have two stepchildren, Jenna and Johnny, and a two-year-old baby girl, Jessiena.

I have completed my first novel, Consequences Within Chaos and will be extending the story in my upcoming sequel, The Bleeding Crown. Also on Amazon & Kindle, I have In Four Days: Horror Suspense Novella.

From the get go I would like to say kudos to whomever was responsible for that stunning cover. It is quite intriguing and beautiful. ‘The Bleeding Crown’ by Derek Barton is the second book in a series, or third if you count the short story prequel. In ‘Seyde in Blood: Consequences Within Consequences Prequel Short Story’ and ‘Consequences Within Consequences’, Derek lays the foundation and opens up a well imagined world filled with some of the most unforgettable and vivid characters. While this could easily be read as a standalone novel, I would recommend that you read the entire series for the simple fact that they are beautifully written and well thought out bits of wordsmithing. I found myself while reading having very colorful and vivid picture floating in my head. The words brought the characters and the story to life in my imagination. That is rare and something that I absolutely love about Derek’s writing. He is consistent in his writing ability and continues to bring entertainment and enjoyment to the reader. This installment brings lots of action and turmoil to the different races of beings depicted in the book. From human characters to characters with feline, canine, avian and now reptile-like characteristics, Derek has the ability to bring them to life. If you haven’t read anything by Derek Barton, you really are missing out on quite an experience in the epic fantasy/dark fantasy genre. He is hands down and without a doubt becoming one of my favorite new writers. I just wish I had to ability to do his books justice with my words, that they deserve. I can only say that I rarely enjoy a book as much as I do when I read one of Derek’s books. Well done and I look forward to the continuing story and any other work that he may write.

The Bleeding Crown

This was the second in the series about Taihven and Letandra's trials to take back their throne. This quest has taken them through strange worlds , kidnappings, enslavements, and finally back to their home. I found this series to be very well written and would recommend the entire series. I'm sure there will be further books as the ending left that impression.
