In this latest in his acclaimed Notebook series, Richard Clark draws on knowledge gleaned from his long association with Crete to focus on the East of the island. Spinalonga, Vai, Agios Nikolaos and the Lassithi Plateau are just some of the places he visits and writes about in his now familiar mix of travelogue and memoir.
‘Richard Clark writes with great authority and a deep affection for his subject, which comes from his long association with Greece… Marjory McGinn, bestselling author of the Things Can Only Get Feta trilogy and A Saint for the Summer
‘Clark is particularly good on the colours, flavours and scents of Greece. He has got under the skin of the place in a way few outsiders have been able to.’ Mark Hudson, winner of Somerset Maugham Award, Thomas Cook Travel Book Award, Samuel Johnson Prize
‘There is poetry in Richard Clark’s words, I recommend anyone who loves Greece to read his work’ Sara Alexi, bestselling author of The Greek Village Series
I love Richard's guides and this one is no exception. I'll definitely be taking it with me the next time I visit Eastern Crete. Full of off-the-beaten-path places to visit it is unlike a traditional guidebook - it's part personal anecdotes, part guide and full of passion for the region.
A wonderful descriptive insight into the parts of Crete that many of us have 'missed'. Intending to venture to Kritsa in May, wouldn't have done so before reading this.
