In a world where there are no rules, there is no greater hero than a seventeen-year-old girl. Life at the fortified town of Sanctuary is calm. The people, with their fearless leader at the helm, have created a haven where they can live out their lives in peace and safety. But it hasn’t always been this way. There were battles and losses along the way, and victory usually came at a price. With the younger generation coming into their own, it’s time for Leah to pass on all she has learnt over the years. Time to tell the stories of how the world became the way it is…starting with the highwaymen of Andorra.
Devon is from the UK, having lived in many places until finally settling in the Midlands. His career in public services started in his teens and has provided a wealth of experiences, both good and some very bad, which form the basis of the book ideas that cause regular insomnia.
He first started reading for fun as an adult, having tried his hardest to avoid anything resembling academia growing up, and at that point the world became a far bigger place. He has been reading, at least one book at a time, ever since.
His debut works, the After It Happened series, (Survival, Humanity, Society) were published in April 2016 followed by Hope (July 2016) and Sanctuary (December 2016). The first part of the series concluded with the release of Rebellion which was published in June 2017.
Storming high into the charts with the first books of the After It Happened series, Devon launched into the top 10 sellers listings in the UK, Australia, Canada and the US, and he made the decision to write full time shortly after the launch of Hope.
Devon’s self-published beginnings caused a stir in the publishing world, and resulted in contracts with Podium Publishing for Audible, narrated by R.C. Bray (The Martian, Expeditionary Force, Arisen), before a publishing deal for kindle and paperbacks with Vulpine Press.
Further works have seen the start of a multi-author series, sci-fi/post-apocalyptic cross genre, futuristic dystopian and alternative history zombie apocalypse. Spin-off books from the After It Happened world have been announced for 2018.
I started with book 1 and intend to just kill time. Now with all seven read over a few days, I'm lost. It's like reading a good western by la mour , a story That drags you in.with all the right feeling that lets your past life experiences entertwine with the story. Loved it I want more!
Just when you thought the series was complete. It happens...... So on to the review. I knew in the original series Leah was going to be a force and a great leader if she listened to those around her. In this chronicle of her life, she has proven that to be true. The tale of Andorra was told in true Devon C. Ford style making the reader unable to put it down till the end. I am hoping for more in this series about how Leah grew and possible how her nephews grow.
DCF. has. penned the seventh novel of the series After It Happened, which showed life after the original group has begun to skip away and how important Sanctuary had been to all of them and to those who helped or hinder the rebirth of humanity. T his is an excellent read for the genre.....DEHS
This was an awesome follow up to the After It Happened series! It's nice getting even more intricate details after an epilogue has been provided, and seeing as Leah's one of my favourite characters, getting it all from her perspective was perfect!
This was a great series starting with Dan's perspective in book 1 and finishing with more from Leah's point of view in this one. I liked the straightforward style and the character development. Post apocalyptic tips are something I love to pick up - call me crazy or just practical - along with tips like a whisper traveling further in the dark then talking at a lower level. I highly enjoyed these books!
I have followed this series and thoroughly enjoyed every stage. Well written, believable characters, engaging action sequences. It holds you till the end. I do enjoy some apocalyptic novels, not the zombie ones, sadly even though I had a part in a zombie film....not as a zombie I may add, so finding an author that caught and held you is great and a bonus when you find it’s a series. Read from the start and you won’t be disappointed.
The Leah Chronicles is a continuation of the After It Happened series, picking the story back up some twenty to thirty years later. Most of the characters that we met and grew to love in the After It Happened books have passed on and Leah, who was twelve when we first met her, is now in her forties and the alpha of her clan. The story being told in Andorra took place more than two decades earlier when Leah was eighteen years old.
In one sense you could say that the Andorra storyline was a series of flashbacks, but all the action, and it was nonstop action, felt as if it was happening in the present. Leah, now Aunt Leah, shares those events with us, the reader, as she shares those events with her two nephews as a series of bedtime stories.
If you have read the After It Happened series, you will want to read The Leah Chronicles. If you have not read the After It Happened series, you feel compelled to go back and read all those earlier gbooks after having read this one.
Leah's commentary provides insight into what happened to Dan's gang at the end of their lives and the future of Sanctuary, all of which was quite sad and emotional. Saying a final goodbye or "au revoir" to all of them, Leah, who is now twenty, continues to have adventures that are just as exciting as Dan's. Although Dan still plays a significant role in her adventures, entertaining and thrilling, she and the gang explore the neighboring areas for trade, exchange different skills, and produce. Inevitably, they encounter the bad guys, and the gang swings into action, doing what they do best: eliminating everyone, but doing it with righteous indignation.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story. At first I was apprehensive about a new narrator given the previous brilliance of RC Bray however hearing a story told by Leah needed a female voice - one which Kate Reading does particularly well. I only struggled initially with Kate's voices of Dan, Neil, etc but soon got over that as you need to remember that it's Leah retelling the story. Plot was great with some further exploration of life in Sanctuary and the surrounding countryside. This added texture to the central story. Looking forward to the next book.
It has been less than a year since I finished the first 6 books of AIH, so it was great to be thrown back into that world again.
Andorra is told from Leah's point of view as the teenager has come into her own in regards to her senior role in Sanctuary. Everything was running smoothly until she takes a drive and is ambushed. From there Ford takes you on a rollercoaster of action and intrigue as her and later Dan and company have to take the next step carefully or else more lives might be lost. This book is well-written... well-paced.
This is a story about society reforming after a mysterious virus/plague has decimated the majority of the world's population. It tells the story of a group of survivors that have banded together for mutual support, protection, and safety and is in the process of restarting their sector's economy. The characters are really detailed, situations explicit if these situations existed, and resolutions realistically displayed.
I received a free copy of this book and I must say, I will start at the beginning of the series so I can see what I have missed. If the rest of the series is half as good as I found this story to be then I have found a winner. I found the lead character, Leah, very interesting and look forward to more of her tales. I totally recommend immersing yourself into this story and the series.
The main series has ended. We finally had a conclusion. Well, a climax and an ending. Heck, we even got an epilogue so that we got the thousand yard view down the line.
What this book gave us was the beginning of stories from Leah's perspective as she was many, many years older, yet looking back on her life.
She is now telling tales to her family of events that we were not a party to. Yet they involved all those who we had come to love.
Was it too much after the end of the series?
Absolutely not. It was more - just more - from those whom we had already fallen in love with.....
Some spoilers, but not really. Good, but not as great as the first 6. Leah is a wonderful character, one of the best in the series. I didn't like the way the author had us looking back over her life at this point in the series. She's only 16! The story was great! I would have liked it to be told as in present day. I listen to audible and I certainly miss RC Bray. He is one of my favorite narrators. I see he is back in book 9. I can't wait!
4 stars - It is an enjoyable read but not quite up to the after it happens main series standard! I like an overpowered MC with plot armor as much as the next guy but to continually state how awesome you are with lines like "But then again, a lot of people weren't me" did make me roll my eyes a few times. I read the main series probably 3 years ago, so it did feel like returning home after a long time to revisit all the familiar characters.
I just read a few reviews from fellow readers that captured my feelings exactly! I loved “Andorra.” It was so good to be back with Leah, Dan, and Mitch with a few new characters introduced. As long as Devon keeps writing in this series, I will keep reading.
I will say again: I WOULD LOVE TO WATCH THIS SERIES!!!
This book appears to be an apology of the war crimes committed in the first set of books. The children burned in the barn in one of the books become people when described handy. The main character suddenly gives a shit about human rights after whole sale murdering prisoners in previous novels. Funny that.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I started this book series when the first book came out. It was in the genre I prefer reading and I liked the cover art. Also, a free read with my Kindle subscription. I had since mov ed on to other books thinking I had read the whole series. This book was a fantastic read from Leah’s perspective. I cried at the end!
I loved this series and eagerly await book 9. I usually don’t like stories with lots of violence, but in this case it works. For me, a bit too much ammunition description but it did add an extra depth to the stories. I loved and admired all of the main characters and will miss them when the series is finished!
Leah and Dan were great warriors protecting their people after the Plague and fought many battles against marauding armies or bands of people. This action packed story is about their connecting with another community-Andorra-and getting rid of those terrorising Andorra. Leah recounts the story to her grandchildren, and story jumps from present to past but does so seamlessly.A very good and enjoyable read-well worth picking up
While the original series was more about how to survive a pandemic this sequel is set a few years later. The settlers are contacted by people in Andorra who need help. As I have been to Andorra myself the setting was like a life action photoseries in my mind. However the story itself is less good than the original series. Less surving a pandemic more a straight war novel.
I am so very happy that the author decided to continued to write about what happened to the people of his very intriguing series, After It Happened. The story takes place several years after they arrived at Sanctuary. Very entertaining, written in first person style and introduces new characters an intriguing situations.
This is Leah’s story going back and forwards in tilme telling how she survived the aftermath of the global event that killed most of the population. Many reviewers have complained that R C Bray is not narrating Leah’s stories….but as brilliant as RC is it would just be wrong …Leah is female …you need a woman telling her story anything else would be weird.
I am so glad Ford has decided to continue with more of this series. The stories in this series are all strong, filled with great characters so you are kept engaged. Just read the series and enjoy.
Wow! I just loved this book. When I found out about the extension of this series I was so happy. This book definitely did not disappoint. I read it in about 3 days!
I am a massive fan of DCF so I was very excited to see a new book about the After it happened series. This book did not disappoint! From the start it was like being reunited with old friends. I really hope this is the start of more chronicles.
What an amazing heroine, forced by circumstances to learn to fight and shoot she somehow retains her humanity. I needed a tissue at the end of book six but now I’m eagerly waiting for at least six more in this series. A fascinating author.
