A 30-day anti-aging program for rapid results using the fundamental movements and principles of the bestselling Aging Backwards, featuring an accelerated program for turning back the clock. The field of aging research has exploded with new clinical findings. Many misconceptions about aging—including the beliefs that disease, immobility, and pain are inevitable—have been debunked. Today, we know that the choices we make, from what we eat to how much and how we move, play a critical role in healthy aging.
PBS fitness personality and bestselling author Miranda Esmonde-White created her breakthrough exercise program, Essentrics, more than twenty years ago. In that time, she has helped everyone from professional athletes to breast cancer survivors to weekend warriors heal and recover from injuries using her gentle Essentric stretching and exercise method that consists of movements that engage all of the body’s muscles and connective tissues.
In Aging The Fast Track, Miranda offers readers systematic workouts to supplement and accelerate the original program, along with new information on the latest anti-aging science to help keep us strong, fully mobile, and looking and feeling young. Using her 30-day fast-track program, you’ll see rapid results in increased mobility, strength, flexibility, body shape, pain relief and overall health. Aging The Fast Track empowers everyone—young and old, athletic or sedentary—with the information and tools to slow down the clock and keep it there.
I listened to the audio of this and I don't recommend that version. I think you need to actually see the stretches and not just listen to the descriptions on how to do it. While I'm on the topic of the audio narration I will say that at first it sounded like the target audience was a geriatric crowd so I felt on the outside of that. Then there was a shift and the narrator came across as a little stern, not in a bad way per se but as a teacher who is not going to put up with any shenanigans. She reminded me of a dance teacher my girls had when they were around 5. Not the best of memories for any of us.
I liked the way the author wrote about the importance and the health benefits of stretching. The info felt meticulously arranged in a way that was easy to follow and understand. Her passion showed through and I can always appreciate that.
I gave this 3 stars because even though I liked some of this, it just didn't come together for me. I should have read the book and maybe this could have been 4 stars.
I have followed Miranda Esmonde-White on PBS for years and knew I like her work outs. I borrowed this book from my local library then after reading through it I purchased a copy for myself and one as a birthday gift for my big sister. We have been working out together most every day since December 9th. We started with the beginner workout. We meet every morning with Google Meet. She lives with her little dog in Oregon and I live in California. This is a great way to stay motivated and connected while the pandemic rages outside our doors. The workouts are done with a relaxed body and will work your entire body. No matter age or fitness level if you follow directions and go at your own speed you will see good results.
A new priceless Gem from forever young Miranda💛🌼🎶👌☀️
Miranda’s Classical Stretch n Essentrics are super effective practical and MAGICAL🌸🍄🌻 They have helped me be mobile pain free and improved my posture immensely and MOST importantly they feel good to DO🌟🌻
great for connective tissue exercises which I do before my yoga class. Miranda recommends doing these every day. I like her shoulder and hands and arms exercises as they are delaying my arthritis. Has Starter Workout as well as 3 Active Adult series of exercises. Also has 8 mini-workouts to do each day for mobility of finger & wrist, toe & ankle, spine flexibility, spine lengthening, elbow relaxation, circulation, releasing neck tension and strengthening & stretching calves. Bonus is way to celebrate your progress with series of tests to do on an ongoing basis to see how you're tracking your progress and also maintaining your healthy body. Suggested stair test, mobility & flexibility tests, including sock test, back touch test, standing from chair and the lie down, sit up, get up test.
Miranda Esmonde-White was a dancer, and after suffering an injury she could not longer dance. She created this program. I have both book and the DVD and I can say this program works. Now I am not completely though the 30day plan, about half way though but I feel different. What I found different with this plan is the stretching is fluid. So i am just holding a position.
When i first started, I hurt myself but then I said pretend like you are moving though water... Oh my.
I think the writing got rather repetitive at times however I found the information very interesting and eye opening. While I think this book was intended for an older audience, I was interested because a large part of the book was focused on addressing chronic pain and the long lasting effects of pain on the body. Hopefully this will help me heal over time. So far, I would recommend this book for any chronic pain sufferers, regardless of age.
Fresh (to me) way to care for our bodies as we age. Flies in the face of “feel the burn” “just do it” - rather this gentle approach honors your body, takes into consideration the past traumas your body has endured, and includes the whole of your body- not just the glamorous muscles, but all the joints, tendons, ligaments, fascia, soft tissues. Well worth the read!
I'm not going to pretend I read the whole book, nor even made it through a whole suggested exercise program! But that doesn't stop me loving the idea of it and wanting to find this author's movement videos and loving her.
Not sure about the backwards thing (maybe? wouldn't that be something), but sure do appreciate the whole-body dance-forward approach.
