Challenge: Leer un libro en el que la protagonista tenga mi misma profesión.
El challenge fue la única razón para yo terminar esta atrocidad de libro.
Es un chic lit, y en verdad este no es mi tipo de género para leer. He leído par de libros dentro de ese mismo género pero ninguno había sido TAN malo como este.
La verdad que buscaba un contemporáneo light y funny, que se pudiera leer sin rápidamente y sin complicaciones, pero cuando en un libro donde la mayoría de los personajes son mujeres y no hay ni una solita ni remotamente likeable, y todas por razones diferentes, me pregunto, ¿a quien va dirigido este libro?
A parte de los personajes, también tuve problemas con el abuso animal y la forma de plasmarlo como que es objeto de chiste, o de comedia -_-. Is not, por lo menos para mi. En cualquier libro donde una criatura indefensa la maltraten y luego pierde puntos conmigo automáticamente.
La "problemática" dentro de la empresa es la cosa más absurda que he leído en mucho tiempo. Entiendo que la autora le escribe a un público que quiere ver dos personajes interactuar y enamorarse (aunque eso tampoco pasa en este libro) pero por lo menos hacer mejorcita su tarea y presentarnos un problema más o menos POSIBLE dentro de una agencia de publicidad, por que dudo mucho que un listado de clientes que han reservado vuelo en una aerolínea pueda ser información relevante para un copy writer, o para un departamento de creatividad.
La interacción entre los dos personajes principales que supuestamente forman la pareja que al final (obviamente) quedarán viviendo felices por siempre, es prácticamente nula, salvo 3 llamadas telefónicas. Así que el "enamoramiento" viene a suceder ya en las últimas 30 páginas del libro aproximadamente. Y el resto está lleno de situaciones cansinas, absurdas y completamente NO interesantes para mi. El pacing es extremadamente lento y ugh!
Pésima lectura, pésimo libro.

Ever since I read Just Friends by Robyn Sisman, I have a feeling I will like her other books. This book is wonderful, with a style of writing that is Sisman's unique style. It starts off a little boring though, with long explanation on Suze and Lloyd. But as the story progresses, and nears the end, I find myself hooked.
The concept of perfect strangers who have only spoken on the phone to fall in love with each other is unique, in a good way. I like how the story progresses, personality changes, to the little twists and turns.
Reading the book has been a fun experience. Characters are likeable and we can totally relate to the same experience and feelings. One star taken off this rating due to a droning intro that reminds me of a bad Marian Keyes novel, but the rest is just gripping.

Otra lenta y aburrida novela de Robyn Sisman. Definitivamente, no es mi autora. Toda la novela esperando a que los protagonistas se crucen para que puedan enamorarse, y nada, en la última página se conocen. Entonces, ¿dónde está el amor que prometía Perfectos desconocidos? ¬¬

Lectura fácil y digerible, una historia de amor des complicada y trama simple donde dos personas intercambian de vivienda y por medio de ella descubren la personalidad del otro. Este libro fue mi introductorio al mundo de la lectura por lo que lo recomendaría a preadolescentes para estimular su gusto por ella, aunque no es una gran obra.

Vaig agafar aquesta novel·la per sortir una mica de la meva zona de confort, ja que pel que havia llegit es tractava d'una comèdia romàntica, un gènere que no acostum a llegir. Ara bé, de comèdia gens i de romàntica ben poc.
Els protagonistes són la Suzy, de Londres i el Lloyd, de Nova York, dos personatges que, a primera vista, són ben diferents. Els dos treballen a la mateixa agència publicitària i no es coneixen absolutament de res, però es presenten a un programa d'intercanvi entre empleats i són els escollits. Així que s'acaben traslladant a la casa de l'altra.
A través de la trama anirem coneixent com són els personatges: ell, força ordenat, perfeccionista i centrat; ella, caòtica i desordenada.
En definitiva, és una novel·la amb una trama força simple i el final força previsible. Si voleu un llibre per passar l'estona que no necessiti un lector exigent aquí ho trobareu. Ara bé, a grans trets, a jo, personalment, no me va fer el pes. Així que no és un llibre que recomani.

Sempat mau memberikan bintang dua, seperempat mungkin ya, tapi ke belakang ceritanya berangsur membaik. Well, kisahnya sederhana. Menceritakan dua kehidupan dari dua warga kota yang berbeda. Yang satu di London, satu lagi di New York, lantas dihubungkan oleh seutas benang merah, yaitu kabel telepon. Ceritanya bisa dibilang unik, kalau disimak dari ide chicklit-chicklit yang selama ini pernah diangkat. Dan kalau mau direndengkan, "Perfect Strangers" mungkin mirip dengan "Thanks For The Memories" karya Cecelia Ahern. Tapi bedanya adalah di plot twist yang tidak melibatkan dua plot yang berbeda menjadi berkesinambungan di awal.
"Perfect Strangers" lebih mementingkan eksposisi kehidupan masing-masing individunya di awal. Mulai dari penokohan yang dibuat sangat rinci. Menjelaskan akan pekerjaan kedua tokohnya. Menemui komunitas-komunitas dan kultur baru. Lalu, konflik yang sama-sama terpisah, tetapi dihubungkan oleh keadaan saling bertanya melalui pesawat telepon.
Dari segi narasi, "Perfect Strangers" dinarasikan begitu apik dan juga sistematis. Dan dari segi latar belakang pun, kentara penulisnya amat piawai dalam mencelupkan berbagai istilah editorial dan desain dari belakang panggung.
Akan tetapi, kekurangan "Perfect Strangers" sendiri datang dari segi yang sama. Permainan plot yang terlalu sistematis, runut, dan tertata rapi, membuat "Perfect Strangers" terasa sangat lamban di bab-bab awal. Di pertengahan, mungkin konfliknya sudah agak terasa, akan tetapi, kesinambungan kedua tokohnya terasa sebatas rasa formalitas. Padahal genre utama yang coba diusung oleh penulisnya adalah roman. Sedangkan di akhir, semuanya malah terjadi terlalu instan. Terlepas dari pertemuan dua orang lewat sambungan telepon, rasanya keduanya tak bisa langusng percaya apalagi memiliki ketertarikan yang kelewat batas seperti kedua pasangan yang secara tak sengaja selalu dipertemukan setiap harinya, pun dengan hubungan Lloyd dan Suze di "Perfect Strangers". Di akhir keduanya diceritakan bertemu di sebuah kafe, akan tetapi, aneh bagi yang menyimak jika keduanya langsung enggan dipisahkan, padahal selama ini keduanya selalu terpisah oleh jarak dan lintang waktu.
Dari lima, dua tiga per empat mungkin pas untuk "Perfect Strangers". Chicklit yang lumayan berbobot dari segi penyampaian, tetapi tetap ringan dari pengusungan sebuah ide. Still love it!

It's been yearrrrssss since I read my last romance book. Part of me will always hate any form of romantic story because it never happened to me and I envy those lucky girls in the story almost all of them are predictable: a perfect woman, a perfect man, a conflict, and in the end, those two that has been named in the back cover fall in so called love or bla bla bla you name it.
So, when the Blind Date from Books&Beyond by only paying Rp99.000,00 for 3 books got me this novel, I directly just read this one because....it has the lowest rating of all. Blind Date with Perfect Strangers it is! HA!
The story was predictable, but I enjoyed it. I was hoping for my definition of strangers: the both characters met for the first time and both of them knew that they are the "perfect" strangers and the song playing was La Valse d'Amelie (version orchestre). Murakami-esque. But of course, the world doesn't revolve around you, dear.
The conflict was interesting, but it was more interesting when I read the synopsis on the back cover. I thought it would involve all the office/FBI/CIA/Interpol/any spy organization. Hahaha. The flow of the story is too long in the start, but it is forgivable. The ending? As I said, it is predictable, but it will entertain any hopeless romantic out there. Everyone is happy.
I am torn between giving it 2 or 3 but well, 3 it is!
And maybe it is a good thing that I got this book from the Blind Date, this exact title was nowhere to be found in Goodreads and I found out that it was combined to another title: Summer in The City. I have fixed it (thank God I have applied for Goodreads Librarian status from a long time ago hahaha).

Es una novela para pasar el rato pero nada memorable. A pesar de que el título parece romance y se cataloga como comedia, no me parece que incluya lo uno o lo otro.
Los protagonistas son Suzy y Lloyd, ambos trabajan para una agencia publicitaria pero en diferentes sedes. Esta agencia tiene un programa de intercambio para la cual ellos se presentan y terminan cambiando oficina y casa.
En principio ambos son completamente diferente, ella siendo descuidada, tal vez un poco extravagante y que extraña el caos que se vive en la juventud, el siendo ordenado (casi obsesionado con esto) y muy simple; asi, al hacer el intercambio, se encuentran en lugares donde no se sienten a gusto. Pero al final, es como si fueran exactamente lo que el otro quiere desesperadamente muuuuy en su interior.
Considero que tanto personajes como trama no fueron bien desarrollados, no hay fundamentos para cada situación que se presenta y mucho menos para el romance que se da entre los dos. Termina siendo bastante predecible.
Es una novela perfecta para cuando simplemente quieres leer por leer, entretenerte leyendo sin profundizar en la trama.

Inti cerita ini adalah: Bisakah kita jatuh cinta pada orang yang tak pernah kita temui?
Cerita berkisah antara Suze(London) dan Lloyd(New York) bertukar pekerjaan dan tempat tinggal selama 4 minggu,menghadapi segala kericuhan akibat tempat tinggal yang baru dan terbunuhnya se-ekor kucing(Mr.Kipling yang malang), si kucing harus disuntik mati karena Betsy(Tunangan Llyod) elergi kucing.
Pertemanan Suze dan Llyod mulai terjalin ketika Suze memergoki rahasia di kantor New York untuk mengingkirkan Llyod,Llyod dipecat dan Suze berupaya membantu Llyod untuk mendapatkan pekerjaannya kembali. Seperti semua novel chicklit lainnya akhir cerita novel ini happy ending.
Novel ini berisi kutipan lelucon yang cukup menghibur. Pertanyaan: berapa banyak orang advertising yang diperlukan untuk mengganti bohlam? jawaban: dua belas - satu orang mengganti lampunya dan sebelas orang lain menjelaskan konsepnya. :)

ini chicklit yg dbaca setelah sekiaaan lama g baca chicklit..agak2 aneh juga awalx...cz terlalu banyak rasax narasi dan penggambaran tentang tempat yg g perlu...
y suze dan lloyd memang tidak pernah bertemu n aq berharap walaupun mereka mereka tidak pernah bertemu setidak2x komunikasix cukup banyak...tp in sayangx g...hanya beberapa kl telpn,mungkin yg membuat mereka saling suka n memahami pribadi masing2 cz mereka bertukar tempat tinggal dan mengenal kebiasaan masing2 dari keadaan apartementx...
yg bikin bertahan membacax n bikin deg2aan itu menunggu kapan suze dan llyod pertama kli berbicara dtlpn n kapan suze sadar klo llyod itu tidak bersalah seperti yg dituduh rekanx kerja lloyd d new york...

I must confess, Chick-lit is my guilty pleasure when it comes to reading. After so many "serious" books, well not really "many" but some, I needed somethig a bit ligther and also romantic. I found it in this book. The fact that it was not the usual love story added a pluss!
Suzy and Lloyd work for the same publishing company, but they are totally strangers, after all Suzy is english and lives in London, while Lloyd is american working in New York... They become part of an interchange program inside the company so they must exchange working place and also living place... and I can't add anything more... I just enjoyed every part of the story with the twist and turns, some expected some not. just read it

Quite good, this book is one of my fave chicklit beside Playing James and Asking for Trouble. I loved the serendipity in the story; 2 people's life who were a stranger before suddenly intertwined by fate.

Baca buku ini asik banget. Isinya lumayan seru, khas drama romantis a la Meg Ryan.
Saya malah tertarik sama label Chicklit di cover buku. something about "Being Single & Happy"
Rasanya kok sedikit pathetic, ya? karena menurut saya, it's OK to be single, it always is. but happy?

Kalo ga salah, begitu juga yang terjadi di setiap novel2 chicklit. In the end, kebahagiaan itu terjadi saat menemukan pasangan yang tepat. Wallahualam.

Suzanne and Lloyd swap houses and office for some months. Nothing new, right? But it is written in a very charming way, and even if it's chick lit, in theory, you would read it anyway if it wasn't, because you get involved in the office politics and in how it can be actually solved.I didn't love the ending, which I think could be better developed to be worth of that - a little longer, for instance - I'd love to see some of those people suffer... but it was still fun.

Predictable but I quite enjoyed reading this book. The main story of this book is "Can we fall in love with someone who is completely stranger?". This is the story between Suze Wilding and Lloyd Rockwell who fell in love even though they've never met before. There is humor and sadness in this book. But it is told beautifully.

Perkenalan pertama saya dengan genre chicklit, lol.
Tokoh utama pria dan wanitanya tidak bertemu sampai akhir, tapi hubungan yang terjadi antara mereka sepanjang buku ini sangat manis dan juga hangat. :)
Tokoh utama pria dan wanitanya tidak bertemu sampai akhir, tapi hubungan yang terjadi antara mereka sepanjang buku ini sangat manis dan juga hangat. :)

I found this book quite borning and slow, I lost interest in it but kept reading it to the end, it started to get a bit better near the end. The ending was a bit sudden and I would like to have read a bit more detailed ending and would of liked to have known what happened next!

July 30, 2011I enjoyed this story - light and entertaining but not empty-headed, seemed well-balanced between the British and American aspects, not overly sweet or steamy it managed to hit a comfortable middle road.

well, bagus. tapi cerita ini kurasa tidak akan kubaca ulang. aku suka karakter Lloyd, dengan badan jangkungnya. sesuai sinopsisnya, mereka benar-benar berinteraksi secara langsung hanya diakhir cerita.

This is my third Robyn Sisman's novel and at last I had fallen in love with both main characters and with the plot. It's been addictive BUT it lacks an appropriate ending so I can't give a 4stars on it... however it gives me some hope for Sisman's novels. Waiting for the next one to come!

I absolutely fell in love with this book. This is the second of Sisman's books that I have read and they just keep getting better and better. Wonderful read!
