Never has hurting another human-being ever been so fun! Writer Justin A. Mank carves a fresh wound with his spine-bending fictional memoir. INNERMIND MUSCLEBOUND is a subversive meditation on the mysticism of masculinity - a depraved, and downright dark, coming-of-age satire about one individual's inherent love affair with his own obscene acts of violence. The psychology of his physiological dominance is not only downright disgusting, it's also so damn gratifying in its gratuity. This long-form monologue explores the sweet science of surrendering to one's own subconscious desires, and smiling wide while performing the physical-arts of a true Pain Guru - natural born, breathing hard and heavy with every intention to HURT. This venture is vast, inherently violent, and completely chaotic. Hilarity ensues, as the Reader follows the Narrator through a life of absurd activities, all of them provoked by a prowess for feeling the flesh with his fists - and an existence weighing the gravity between his victories against his losses.
Have you ever wanted to beat the living crap out of someone? Then went for it in public. Winning the battle felt great right? Scoring a sexy lady to take somewhere and celebrate your victory would feel great too, I’m sure. When that becomes a bore, why not open your mind and travel into your inner mind and just start pulverizing legends.
Mank takes the gloves off and throws numerous punches into the past without even breaking a sweat. Hilariously punch for punch will have you wondering if your “Innermind Muscle” is ready to take a swing.
Really enjoyed this one. The narrator/protagonist is a violent, unsympathetic character who is well aware of his tendencies and won't stop exploring them. At first he gets away with it because his assaults fall short of serious hospitalization (for the most part) or murder. But then he discovers a way to revel in battle with no limits and that's what makes the story so fascinating. I never saw the course of events coming as they unfold to a violent and surreal transcendental emergence.
This was a fun, quick read. A fictional memoir of a man hellbent on living his life to be the greatest, toughest, meanest butt-kicking S.O.B on the planet. It's funny, rude, and very much in your face. I found it fascinating to live inside the protagonist's mind and see the world through his eyes. Not for everyone, but if you're looking for something different and a little dangerous, I'd highly recommend this one.
