As the newly appointed Lord Protector for Windfall and Mage Apprentice to the Wizard King of Great Vale, Alex Rogers had taken the role of a lifetime. Combined with his pending marriage to the half-nymph Lady Cassandra, he had more on his plate than he could ever hope to accomplish anytime soon.
However, a message intended for the dead Prince Renfeld, one exposing a dastardly plot, had been dropped in his hands. It was a plot involving the kidnapping of the sister of the King of Great Vale, and it leaves Alex no choice but to depart for foreign lands across the Western Sea. There, he must rescue someone who is not only the King's sister, but also the mother of his soon-to-be bride.

Great book

I loved your books both this series and the Alice series. I would recommend to the author that when you are switching between the characters that you allow one story to play out then go to the other story arc until they meet up again, telling the entire story of their journey to the tunnels then switching to when the mermaids have spilt off and do their thing and use that m until the time lines back up to their meeting with alex. Switching after just a paragraph i feel detracts from the story because you need to switch gears. Overall a great book and I look forward to the next in the series.

Well written and held the reader's attention

What is next for Alex Rodgers. This book show that even in the world of fantasy that Alex falls into that some things never change. The world that holds to fanatical truths above the common sense of everyday life still runs deep in the interaction of people. I look forward to the new chapter in this series. Thank you for a good time and a great world to explore.

Loved it.

I think the second book was better than the first. Dragons, unicorns, and flying horses, oh my! Liked the foreshadowing for the third. Looking forward to it. Keep writing Charles! Are you done with the Alice series?

Not bad

Really good young adult novel. Only downside I didn't appreciate the reference to the dwarves speaking bits of Yiddish. I'm sure it was meant to be funny but then having them be greedy later on made it seem like a bit of bigotry was being subtly introduced.

A Good Story

I really enjoy the tone of these books, written in a slightly formal narrative, and feeling very much like an adventure story from a book a few decades older. Also appreciated is the light touch on the drama and romance, keeping things from getting too dark or too explicit. The comedy is also nicely done.

If you enjoy adventure, you really should give this series a try. Recommended.

A Fitting Sequel to a Fairy Tale, Err....Elven Tale.

With Mermaids, Nymphs and Sea Monsters. Oh my! Alex Rogers continues his tale in an alternate realm, now as the Lord Protector of Windfall. This sequel picks up as the quest to rescue Lady Cassandra's mother, Lady Amelia. Amelia was kidnapped at the end of the first book by one of Prince Redfield's criminal heads of evil houses. With Redfield's reported death or in hiding, Tantalous, hides the Lady Amelia in a dragons watchful care. The guy can talk to dragons telepathically.

Loved it

Really loving this series. Especially the lore and worldbuilding. We need a book about sweet Kinsey too. Kidding. Kind of. Love it regardless. Haha.

A good book in general.

The author needs to improve on his grammar as it does detract from the story line in several ways. Also the usage of Yiddish terms by the dwarves was offensive boarding on anti-Semitic racial discrimination. This also was unnecessary and troubling. I hope that the next novel avoids this as it makes me less likely to support the author?

Entertaining but the main characters are sometimes irritatingly stupid. For example, while in the middle of a rescue, one of them starts a conversation with the hostage they are freeing and they are so loud that they alert the magical guardian who they saw sleeping.

This story pick up just a few months after book 1 ends and we learn about princess Cassie’s mother and her journey mentioned in book 1. We have ourselves another good old adventure story in this one with Alex and gang. They travel across the sea to a new land and meet some interesting new companions. This journey splits our party for a time. The story stays interesting with fairly high stakes and ups and downs. I enjoyed this book about as much as the first. We get to see more of the world, experience dragons, and mermaids. And Alex grows in his abilities throughout. The overall story here is one of teamwork and determination while encompassing fantastical elements! I really enjoyed this book and am excited to dive into book 3. The story ends on a great note with some ominous notes and revelations. We shall see when C.W. Takes us going forward

I have submitted this review after listening to the audiobook of this title within the series set box. (Audible Membership)

One bad guy had been vanquished with the land war, but the fate of the king Ben's sister who had been sent across the seas, on a trade mission, was unknown, until a missive was received addressed to the defunct prince, stating she had been taken and the kidnappers awaited orders.
That's when things started to become chaotic.

Again I can’t help but think of this as an isekai manga. The Hero from another world. It’s a little immature and I find some of the romancey parts cringe but I like the magic, battles and story for the most part.

The story and characters continue to evolve from the first book. Some interesting resolutions to challenges. I didn't put this down until I finished it and I have book 3 in my reading queue.

Charles Lamb has written a series so far equal to his first one. On my reading way to the final story? A fan!

Solid sequel to Book 1. Enjoyable storyline, though character bonds again feel a bit rushed. Overall, a good read
