Earth is losing the war against the Horlan. The crew of HMCS Borealis is on a last, desperate mission to turn the tide. Travelling to another galaxy, they have rescued scientists in search of a miracle, and gained an unexpected ally... but all at a terrible cost.
With no contact from home, the crews of the Borealis, Sagan and Nirupak may be all that remains of humanity. Struggling with their losses and despair, the crews prepare for what lies ahead. But hidden in the darkness of a hostile galaxy, something else has taken notice.
Against impossible odds, the Borealis sails one last time to fight in a war that may already be lost, and to come face-to-face with an ancient mystery.
Brilliant! I loved the bit where the moon turns out to be made of cheese and the earth is saved in a hockey tournament involving pesto. I always knew that the cats and/or crows would take over one day.*
*I read a pre-release version so some details my vary
If you haven't read the first four, I highly recommend doing that first.
This series just kept me on the edge of my seat! It has everything from spaceships, aliens, war & interesting characters that I would love to meet. This would make a fabulous TV show but then again perhaps not as I'd only sit there going "that wasn't in the book" & "he/she doesn't look like that!" Just read the series, its fantastic!
This whole series is great fun. The author does a fantastic job of creating alien species. He is a master at conversation.
I highly recommend the whole series. My only caveat is the profanity, which I would prefer wasn't there, but skip over that and you have a really really entertaining SF series.
I have enjoyed reading this series of books, and recommended them. In the final book we find the crew of the Borealis still in mourning. But they most move forward in finding a way to defeat the Horlan. But as you read the book a few surprises will be given to the readers.
This is an addictive series. I read them all back to back and was a little disappointed that it ended. Fast-paced adventure, likeable and fun characters, and even though each book was an easy read they had substance. Very enjoyable.
Just finished book 5 and feel like crying because I am done. Best sci-fi I have read in many years. Almost feel like the people are real and are my friends. Excitement and danger and everything you could want.
Good finish to the series. Explains partially the next series started by Burnt Worlds. Exciting action against the Horlen and finally back to earth. Don't miss the finale.
