A mark left on the skin or within body tissue where a wound, burn, or sore has not healed completely and fibrous connective tissue has developed.
What a clinical definition...
My name is CUT.
It's the name of my choosing. The only name the world will ever know. Only two people know my real name: my mom and my best friend. The woman whose innocence gave me these markings. I fight to keep it this way, both literally and figuratively. I train criminals. I make a living walking into dens of thieves, criminals, and murders, and training them to become more depraved.
She’s a walking sex goddess, well aware of her power of over men. She's loud-mouthed, snarky, and loose with her morals, but her loyalty knows no bounds. She wouldn’t hurt a fly. Maybe talk the thing death, but that’s about it. I avoid her at all costs, but for some reason she doesn’t avoid me. Does she not see my scars? The raw, pink flesh that mars my skin. I fight, train, burn, cut… but not her... never her.
Is it love?
It can’t be. I'm a monster.
Trigger Warning: Sexual content.
Author Note: This is Cut's book from the Roses & Thorns series. Can be read as standalone.
Standalone spin off from Rose and Thorn series. The story begins with Brantley. Brantley saves his best friend from drug dealers by offering himself in her place not realising what the dealers would do to him. After they have physically and emotionally scarred him he learns how to fight and becomes a martial arts trainer and renames himself, Cut.
Fast forward 15 years and we meet Maria. Maria is Roses friend (who you met in Rose and Thorn series) Maria has been bought up to be strong and sassy by her dad who is now suffering from dementia. Maria is drawn to Cut, even though she tries to fight her feelings. The tension between Cut and Maria is hot and smouldering.
The way the book weaves between all the characters makes you want to find out more about all of them! I want more on Nix /Sage, Blade/Mandy - she is going to be our friend so we get to call her that rather than Amanda!! 😊 But first Enzio - bring it on, my heart can handle it - I think!!
Bry Ann pulls you into her books slowly and then BAM your ugly cyring and reaching for tissues!!! I love this series so much 💖💖

It would have been 4 stars, but the heroine that was supposed to be strong turned into an emotional mess.
I loved that she was experienced. They both were.
***Some might not like this, but there is a descriptive sex scene of the heroine and another guy. I didn't mind because I was actually happy that a heroine was getting some. The heroine also enjoyed having sex.***
The book ended abruptly and the epilogue was in Mandi's (hero's best friend) point of view. I thought since this was a duet, the next book was going to be a continuation of Maria and Cut's story, but it will be Mandi's book.
2/3 of the book were in the hero's point of view which I enjoyed.
Not a bad book, but the book was ruined when the heroine started crying in every chapter.
I fell in love with Cut in the Roses & Thorns series and was so happy to hear that Bry Ann would be writing his story. It's heartbreaking, but so great. His proof that he will go to any length to protect the women in his life just shows his strength, loyalty, and character. I look forward to more of the characters stories in this series.
I am so in love with Cut, he's such a tough guy on the outside, but a softie on the inside. He is a man who works with criminals because it's the only place he feels accepted. Maria sees beneath the scars and the man that he really is underneath. She is such a strong woman, yet a bit crazy. I love her and am so glad that she and Cut found their way to each other. He's a loyal man who will do anything for those who are in his small circle but when he has to betray one very important woman to protect Maria it almost destroys him. The trust of Lacey is not easy to come by and he had to betray her or Maria would not have been in his life any longer, or anyone's for that matter.
Luckily, Lacey is a woman who knows that loyalty and character are two things that make a person worthy of being in her life and that Cut did what he thought was right at the moment, even though it took her awhile to come to terms with the betrayal.
The real Cut comes out in this story and made me love him even more. I give this story 5 shining stars () and would definitely give it more if I could. I love Bry Ann's story telling and her ability to bring her characters to life in my living room or anywhere that I am reading her stories. I look forward to many more stories from her especially in this series.
I LOVED THIS BOOK 😍 Can I say I loved it more than the Roses & Thorns series, I am afraid it is YES! I knew Cut and Maria story was going to be really good, but it is beyond GOOD, I don’t have a word to explain the feeling I have right now. I love how you get to be in Cut’s and Maria’s head. By that you get their background, why they are acting in a certain way. The story is good and very well written. You get the connection between them, and you see how they both struggle because they aren’t used to having those feeling. I am happy because you still get a little bit of Lacey, Rose, Sven and the boss! I missed them ☺️ The only negative thing (OK not so negative to be honest) I would say is, the story is not long enough haha would have loved more chapter about Cut & Maria because there are soooo cute! Thank you, once again Bry, for this! Can’t wait for the next one 👍🏻
I loved this book soooo much! My heart broke many times throughout the book... Poor Cut... I was in tears everytime I read about his tortures. Maria is sooo strong, yet so fragile... You get the connection between them, and you see how they both struggle because they aren’t used to having those feeling. I loved how Maria was persistent, how she pushed and pushed and eventually got what was right for her and Cut. Woow! I loved that I saw my favorite Lacey & Boss, Sven and Rose... Can't wait for the next installment...
❤️🌼🔥CUT IS THE HOTTEST OF THE SERIES!!!!! I LOVE HIM!!!!❤️🌼🔥 After reading the ROSES & THORNS SERIES BOXED SET, I NEEDED to read a book about Cut....He is such a gruff a$$h@le to the outside, the criminals he trains to fight......but to Lacey, Rose and, especially, Maria, he is softer....❤️🌼🔥 Brantley and Maria were immediately attracted to each other in the previous books, but could two people as screwed up (with good reasons) even start to believe in love?? More importantly, can they find love together???❤️🌼🔥 I LOVE THIS WHOLE SERIES!!! CUT can be read as a stand-alone, but I recommend everyone read the ROSES & THORNS series first.....You will be so glad you did.......❤️🌼🔥
I shed many tears reading this emotional yet compelling story of Cut/Brantley and Maria. I throughly love these two characters and all their strengths..
Lighter, but just as amazing! Again, Bry Ann deals with diificult topics with such compassion. I love the hot, cold, hard and soft of Cut and Maria's personalities and how they both, so easily put their barriers up to protect themselves. Also, how everyone else can see, including Boss, what they can't! Much softer than Bry Ann's other books I've read, while sucking me into the character's lives just the same. Can't wait to read Enzio. Highly recommended!
This is a true standalone story in the Roses & Thorns series. There are secondary characters from the previous book sin this one, but you don’t get any spoilers or feel like something is missing if you have not read them first. I enjoyed reading about Cut and both his past and his present. His history is both tragic and hurtful; what he had to overcome to be the man he is today just added to my love of him.
This was such a detailed and in depth book that I was so excited to read it, I did not put it down. I loved getting to know Brantley as a young child because I think it was important to really understand the decisions Cut made as an adult (I address him as both Brantley and Cut because his life is really two different parts, two different people).
The reason for the one star reduction in rating was because I did not care for the two main females in this story; Mandi the best friend, and Maria the lover. Mandi was too much a self-inflicted victim for my taste, though I understood her reasoning and the need to be who she was; I just did not connect with her on a personal level. Maria was another issue. At the beginning of this story I was frustrated with her and was desperately hoping that Cut would not get involved, but I soon found myself trying to get to know her because Cut was interested in her. She was too over the top for me, too self-destructive, too uncaring (thought only on the surface). I just expected more from her and from Cut. About half way though I started to see a different Maria and was okay with Cut’s lust for her. If I am being honest, she never really redeemed herself with me but I liked her more at the end of the book.
I loved the healing aspect that Maria gave to Cut and vice versa. There was so much damage from their youths that it was a nice and sweet moment when, as a reader, you understand that these characters will have a better future with each other. This story is so amazing; I really fell into it and enjoyed reading about Cut. He has always been a mystery for me (from the other stories) that I was quite interested in his story. I think this book did him justice.
i was really curious about cut, and i loved him and all the things about him. But the thing that maked me kind of hate the read, well the first half of it was because of Maria, i dont like how she is so open and slutty. honestly. i don't pretend to see a saint girl , but , her behaving like whore didn't suit well for me at all,ok having past relationships etc...but going always with stranger dude's? sorry i can't accept it. And the fact she was with Francisc too... just bleah , i feel like she don't deserve Cut, at all :( but i'm still happy at the end... for him.
I can't WAIT for y'all to read Cut's book. He's my big ol' gruff teddy bear, and I just know you are going to love him. This story starts at six years old and spreads past the timeline of the Roses & Thorns series!
