Hmm... I'm not exactly sure what to say about volume 3 of No Game No Life. In many ways, it was worse than volume 2, but in some ways, I liked it more. Since I'm a jerk, let's start with what I didn't like: the grammar.
Like volume 1, the grammar in volume 3 makes me feel like I'm losing brain cells from reading, which I never thought I would say. The English in here is atrocious. At the same time, I'm 100% certain that this is a stylistic choice of the original author, which means the translator is being true to the author's writing. That being said, even if someone wishes to keep their translations accurate to the source content, if that writing doesn't work well in another language, then it is the translator's job to make it flow more smoothly. Here, I feel like the translator stopped at the translating and didn't even bother trying to make it better. The paragraphs in this volume were all like: "Sora stood there. Wearing a smug expression. Looking like a douchenozzle. King. Eighteen. Virgin. Stop being a n00b."
If you look at the paragraph, the only complete sentences in this entire paragraph are the first and last sentences. The rest aren't. Now, while I can deal with this sort of writing if it serves a purpose, such as to increase the pace and flow of a story, when 90% of a story is written like this, it pisses me off.
So, I bet you're asking yourselves: If he hates the writing so much, why does he continue reading? That's because the story is interesting. For all its faults, this is probably one of the most entertaining light novels I've read. The characters are intriguing, the story is awesome, the humor is hilarious, and despite how horribly written it is, I really do enjoy reading it. I wonder if that makes me a masochist? Aw, well.
One other thing that people should be aware of is how awkward some of the dialogue can be. Yuu Kamiya apparently doesn't believe in adding dialogue tags. This isn't a problem when only two or three people are talking and each person has a distinctive speech pattern. However, when six or more people are talking at the same time, even with distinctive ways of speaking, it's impossible to know who is saying what. Toward the end of the book, this issue becomes even more prevalent.
All this being said, if you can enjoy the story for what it is and not remain hung up on the grammar, then you might just like this. Sora and Shiro are in fine form this volume, Jibril is as hot as ever, and Steph makes for excellent comic relief. I think the only awkward thing was the bath scene with Shiro and Izuna. I don't know about you, but reading about an 11 and 9 year old taking a bath is just awkward. I know that Japan has different beliefs on nudity than America, and I don't really get hung up on stuff like that, but it's still awkward when the characters are that young. I almost skipped that part because reading it makes me feel like a pedobear.

DIA MUNDIAL DEL SOLTERO
Sora ( y todos los demas personajes de los libros ) estan solteros. muy solteros. de hecho me gusta estos libros porque se enfoca mas en aventuras que en relaciones tortuosas de las cuales estoy MUY ENTERADA.
en este libro juega una gran apuesta con la chica que esclava de las hadas. nadie lo recuerda ,nadie sabe que existió . excepto tu hermanita Shiro. el gana la partida y luego van a jugar contra los hombres bestias a un juego en realidad virtual situado en Tokio. donde hay que dispararles y el contricante ( el que recibió el golpe se enamore) mas o menos como un paintball pero con amor.
me gusta un montón como Sora aunque es un poco excentrico y le gusta admirar la belleza femenino eso no lo detiene para pensar con la cabeza y por encima de todo cuidar a su hermanita adoptiva .

3/5 Volume 3 starts right after 2’s cliffhanger where Sora is missing and Shiro is immensely distraught. The series shines through a lot more when our heroes’ deficiencies are brought into play.
The game starts with a very confusing game of Othello where the opponents have pieces of themselves on the line. Their memories, feelings, even their soul. It’s a neat idea but it’s portrayed in such a convoluted way that it’s hard to follow.
After that our cast is playing against the Werebeasts that currently hold claim to a large chunk of Immanitie’s lands. This time the game is a nonviolent first person shooter game where if you hit the opponent they fall in love with you. On the line is all of Immanity. This game was silly fun but still very weird. This volume also catches up to the end of Season 1 of the anime. So the next volume will be all new. Not that I remember most of the plot as I’m reading.

honestly was bored and skimmed the entire time —until the coin toss, i loved that— because, again, i watched the anime.

Sora y Shiro estaban en la búsqueda de la última pieza para asegurar su victoria contra la East Unión de los Hombres Bestia, cuando Sora parece perder en un enfrentamiento contra una fuerza desconocida y su existencia parece ser casi borrada, siendo Shiro la única que lo recuerda.
Quizás quieras preguntarme, ¿Por qué estoy balbuceando estas cosas aunque no puedo volar? Pero debemos tomar esto lentamente, y pensar en una forma de permitirle a Shiro elevarse en el cielo con alas…… Aunque soy un hermano inútil, lo pensaré contigo.
— ¿Cómo podría seguir viviendo si olvidara estas palabras? - Los recuerdos sobre su hermano eran su razón para vivir, ¿Qué podría hacer si sellara los recuerdos de su hermano?
Si estos realmente eran recuerdos implantados, entonces ella realmente debió perder en un juego brutal. Ya que tal cosa... Tal cosa…… ¡Era muy cruel!
— “…… Nii…… no……… para olvidar a mi hermano…… ¡¡Preferiría estar muerta!!
Por un breve momento perdemos a Sora, sin conocer su paradero, que apuesta está haciendo, contra quien se está enfrentando ni como salvarlo. Shiro tiene que enfrentarse a su propia impotencia y descubrir porque es la única que puede recordarlo y que claves le dió Sora para salvarlo. Digamos que Shiro tiene su momentazo para brillar en solitario y lo resuelve con un guionazo, porque
Kurami se sintió un poco intranquila, mientras se giraba para encarar a Fii.
— “… ¿Estás dispuesta a ayudarme?”
— “Por supuesto que lo estoy~ siempre que sea por Kurami, no importa si el mundo se enfrenta a mí.” Sosteniendo la mano de Kurami, Fii sonrió radiantemente.
Kurami asintió y se movió hacia adelante una vez más.
— “Así que…… Debemos irnos, Fii.”
— “Está bien.”
Cuando todo se resuelve, nos damos cuenta que todo ha sido orquestado y tenía varios componentes de azar, haciéndolo un enfrentamiento curioso y fuerte... y ni si quiera fue el juego principal contra The Eastern Union; pero nos permitió conocer la historia de Kurami Zierh y Fiel Nilvaren, las primeras "enemigas" del volumen uno, y reclutarlas para el lado de los Imanity. Fue un método muy extremo, literalmente para conocerse mutuamente hasta lo profundo de su médula:
Si en realidad tuviera que decirlo, entonces la cosa extraña sobre su hermano es que era una
persona muy densa. Si utilizaba los poderes coactivos de los Juramentos para sobreponerse a la densidad de su hermano, ¿Qué sucedería?
Si comenzara desde el día en el que comenzaron a vivir juntos, pasando por las dificultades de su vida juntos, llena de recuerdos. ¿Él se daría cuenta de estos sentimientos?
Ocultos en su pecho, ella tenía afecto hacia su hermano, que era mayor al de ser solamente hermanos normales
Así como si tal cosa, dejan caer información impactante: se nos confirma algo que se mantenía en tono de broma. Shiro siente un afecto que ella cree "romántico" hacia su hermano. La verdad, no podemos especular con eso, porque es una niña de 11 años y Sora ha sido su único mundo hasta ahora.
Conclusiones finales
Bueno, bueno. No sé si es la traducción o si tengo mala capacidad de entendimiento, pero en los juegos, he tenido que remitirme al anime ver el desarrollo de las escenas, porque al leerlo, me pierdo.
Creo que es un tomo que no terminó de gustar, porque fuera de la batalla de "Piedra, Papel, Tijeras", contra Steph, el "Juego de ajedrez con Voluntad Propia" contra Kurumi o "Palabras conectadas" con Jibril; los juegos de este volumen no tuvieron planeación, sino que se resolvieron con algo muy aleatorio y dependiendo de la suerte, por mucho que lo adornen y digan que tomaron pasos para crear esos movimientos. Fue. Pura. Suerte. Todo. Incluso, actuando como si supieran "cosas específicas que van a ocurrir", cuando no tienen ninguna base o pista que los sustente, como
Las balas colisionaron entre sí detrás de Izuna…… con un rebote, la bala venía desde el
punto ciego de Izuna. Era un golpe fatal que era imposible detectar.
Engañar a su hermano, engañarse a sí misma, engañar a Izuna, engañar a Ino, incluso Jibril había estado en los cálculos del plan.
Era como una diosa… no, el ataque que nació de cálculos demoniacos era imposible de evadir.
Sí, un ataque que seguramente iba a golpear.
Usualmente ese era el caso.
“¡¡Interesante, desu!!
La batalla contra los Hombres Bestia fue interesante. Todos pensamos que los tiros iban a ir por otro lado (que la batalla o el tipo de juego se desarrollaría de otra manera), pero mezclaron elementos como chicas moe, armas de amor, con FPS (First-person shooter), una batalla campal entre dos equipos y así, para hacerlo más llamativo y divertido de leer.
Todos lo sabemos: la manera en que ganaron, fue ridícula. Si hubieran ganado en su primer enfrentamiento o en el segundo contra Izuna, estaría entendible y hubiera sido épico, pero su carta de triunfo Fue. Pura. Suerte. Y. Sin. Posibilidad. De. Que. Lo. Hayan. Podido. Planear.
Fuera de eso, este tomo nos deja con la lindísima Izuna y su abuelo fisioculturista, como nuevos personajes regulares)? para el desarrollo de los personajes, siendo los nuevos intermediarios entre la nueva alianza Imanity y The Eastern Unión. Además de a Kurami y Fiel como las agentes doble para Elven Gard.
En el siguiente tomo podremos ver como los Imanity recuperan todo su territorio continental, seguro progresaran tecnológicamente con el apoyo de The Eastern Union, e incluso vemos como los pininos/semillas que sembraron para confundir a Elven Gard, los Elfos, quizás den frutos y veamos un enfrentamiento con ellos.
Por cierto, Sora aun no termina de desarrollar su idea, del porque dice "todo es un juego, y no terminaron de entender a Tate, por eso el está aburrido del estado actual del mundo y por eso nos trajo a Shiro y a mi".
… Había tantas cosas en las cuales pensar que Steph no quería pensar más. Las palabras de Sora repentinamente aparecieron. “Nadie morirá…… este es un juego después de todo.”
Steph previamente pensó que Sora estaba loco por decir estas palabras, pero después de meditar, ella pensó: Él dijo que quería conquistar este mundo… él dijo que hicimos algo mal.
En la Eastern Union, fue obvio que nadie recibió ningún daño. ¿A menos que él realmente quiera conquistar este mundo sin derramar sangre? ¿Dejar que todos los Exceed coexistan y desafiar a dios? …… Entonces el décimo de los Diez Juramentos.... Todos deben divertirse mientras juegan……
— “¡¡Es-ese cabeza hueca, no, ese hombre al mando, la próxima vez que lo vea, será mejor que tenga cuidado!!”
Asi que... sigue en duda para desarrollarse.

Los Imanity, los últimos, los dieciseisavos.
La nación de los Elfos se llama Elven Gard y es un país democrático, pero en las áreas que anexaron de las otras razas, se debe hacer un pacto con ellos. En resumen, un sistema parecido a la esclavitud. (quizás por esto, los Hombres Bestia temian la victoria de los Imanity).
Si los comparamos, los Flügel tienen ventaja en manipulación de poder, mientras que en el uso de técnicas mágicas complejas le ganan los Elfos que son listos.
La Nación de los Hombres Bestia es la The Eastern Unión, su territorio estuvo envuelto en muchas batallas internas entre las distintas subrazas o tribus de los Hombres Bestia (ellos se pueden agrupar según sus rasgos físicos y habilidades); hasta que 50 años atrás, llegó la Miko, quien unifico y llevo la paz a su territorio, y luego, mediante batallas con la Imanity, les permitió expandir su territorio original, que era puro territorio marítimo, por lo que les escaseaban recursos naturales y minerales, hasta conseguir el territorio continental de los Imanity y los llevo a su rápida evolución tecnológica.
Los Flügel y los Elfos tienen una animadversión: Jibril destruyó una ciudad capital de los Elfos con "Golpe del Cielo", una habilidad mágica, y luego huyó con los libros que podía llevar, haciendo que los Elfos tomarán unos 800 años en reponer esa información.
Los Hombres Bestia tiene algo llamado "Sed de Sangre" donde llevan al limite su cuerpo para romper las leyes de la física. Por ejemplo, Izuna puede hacer dos saltos en el aire, apoyándose en el aire mismo. Lo malo es que el cuerpo luego queda "roto", fibras musculares vueltas gelatina, sangre hirviendo, rodillas y cosas desgastadas. Si se usa, incluso, el precio puede ser la muerte.

La nación de los Elfos se llama Elven Gard y es un país democrático, pero en las áreas que anexaron de las otras razas, se debe hacer un pacto con ellos. En resumen, un sistema parecido a la esclavitud. (quizás por esto, los Hombres Bestia temian la victoria de los Imanity).
Si los comparamos, los Flügel tienen ventaja en manipulación de poder, mientras que en el uso de técnicas mágicas complejas le ganan los Elfos que son listos.
La Nación de los Hombres Bestia es la The Eastern Unión, su territorio estuvo envuelto en muchas batallas internas entre las distintas subrazas o tribus de los Hombres Bestia (ellos se pueden agrupar según sus rasgos físicos y habilidades); hasta que 50 años atrás, llegó la Miko, quien unifico y llevo la paz a su territorio, y luego, mediante batallas con la Imanity, les permitió expandir su territorio original, que era puro territorio marítimo, por lo que les escaseaban recursos naturales y minerales, hasta conseguir el territorio continental de los Imanity y los llevo a su rápida evolución tecnológica.
Los Flügel y los Elfos tienen una animadversión: Jibril destruyó una ciudad capital de los Elfos con "Golpe del Cielo", una habilidad mágica, y luego huyó con los libros que podía llevar, haciendo que los Elfos tomarán unos 800 años en reponer esa información.
Los Hombres Bestia tiene algo llamado "Sed de Sangre" donde llevan al limite su cuerpo para romper las leyes de la física. Por ejemplo, Izuna puede hacer dos saltos en el aire, apoyándose en el aire mismo. Lo malo es que el cuerpo luego queda "roto", fibras musculares vueltas gelatina, sangre hirviendo, rodillas y cosas desgastadas. Si se usa, incluso, el precio puede ser la muerte.

It took me a long two weeks to finish reading this light novel.
Don't get me wrong, I like the animal-eared-girls, AKA, the Eastern Union, but the games in this volume were not as badass as the previous ones.
You can sign me up for the 4th novel, tho.

The last volume that the anime covers. In my opinion, this one was a little weaker than the books before.
The starting premise was very fun: Sora and Shiro were separated with Sora allegedly having lost a game (though of course we all know that this is not true). It had to come at some point, as separating them appears to be one of their biggest weaknesses. Chlammy and the Elves make a return.
Then, we had the game with the Werebeasts and this has kind of dragged on and was confusing at times. I also find it weird that Sora and Shiro can do precision shots etc. if their stats are those of their real life characters. Those are shut-in kids who never do sports - it shouldn't be possible for them to do this stuff.
So this volume was not quite as strong as the earlier ones but still fun nonetheless.

This book started off at the end of vol. 2 where Sora had suddenly disappeared. Shiro had to figure out where he had gone and found an unfinished shogi board where she got Sora back. After that the last piece was found and they went to scout out the werebeasts.
This volume definitely was not better than volume 2. It had the same flaws as vol. 1 where the grammar was off and a few translations did not make much sense. The random bursts of 'fancy' grammar and slang made the reading inconsistent. However, I do think the author made a good job describing the scenes, such as the scene with Izuna and Shiro.
I do recommend this volume to those who have read vol. 2, it answers quite a few of unanswered questions from the last volume and is overall a decent book.

Just like before, the story is intriguing, the games are fun, the characters are okay, and I want to shoot Sora's perverted nutsack off.
For a while in the beginning, I thought they, the main protagonists Sora and Shiro, would have character development. But they're still the same smartass, power fantasy manifesting as two humans with personalities that I don't like. I will say though, it seems they, along with other characters, are more likable when they're playing the games. Reading them trying to outsmart and outmaneuver each other is pretty fun.

Finally, I've read all the light novels covered in the anime. Honestly, my opinion still stands this works so much better as an anime or even a manga just because of how bare bones the writing style is. Like I said I often get confused with who is speaking and have difficulty imagining the scenes in my head, especially if I hadn't watched the show. Let's see what book four will bring and if I will grow on this style.

The first-person-shooter game chapter was actually pretty thrilling, for its fucking 80-page duration, despite being (or because it is) a light novel action sequence. And it's always a little fun to have Sora reveal his keikaku that have been apparently building up through the entire series. I don't know how anyone could like Death Note and not enjoy this, since it's basically the same shit.

Still not sure how I like this series. I think that, without having seen the anime, it would be very hard to follow. This book is the last one that has been animated, so we'll see if the next one is more or less enjoyable.

Book three has Sora and Shiro going up against the eastern Union in a all-or-nothing game. It is also the end of the anime.
I enjoyed the high jinks of the siblings as well as the complexity of the endgame.
So book four will be new territory. I can't wait to dive into new material.

Funny, the games are true brain teasers. Yes Sora and Shiro are over the top intelligent predicting just about anything, but they stay true to their gamer personas :D It was a fun read, and I'm looking forward to the next volume

I loved the anime series of this book but sadly, there was no season 2 of the anime so I switched over onto the Light Novels to continue on with the story! Volumes 1-3 contain season 1, and I'm about to read volume 4!

This third volume really captivated me with the story. I feel like it was my favorite up to that point in the reading. It seemed like they were doing a speedrun, as if the light novel was going to be canceled soon; but the work was too interesting to be canceled.
I'm intrigued to see what will happen next in the story.

Sora y Shiro se dirigen ahora a conquistar la Eastern Union, pero para ello necesitarán ayuda. En la primer parte del libro se consigue la ayuda de los elfos. En la segunda parte del libro se tiene el juego contra la Eastern Union.
En estas reseñas no he hablado mucho de la relación de Sora y Shiro. Son hermanos y cada uno tiene habilidades diferentes. Ella (Shiro) es muy buena calculando y realizando las tareas altamente complejas. Él (Sora) es un estratega innato y puede ver a través de las intenciones de las personas. La combinación es lo que hace que formen un equipo de juegos tan poderoso. Sin embargo esta relación es más de codependencia que de interdependencia. Para los hermanos es muy difícil estar separados.
Algo que me gusta de este volumen es que comienza a evolucionar la relación entre ellos, dándose algunos espacios. En el primer juego Shiro debe confiar ciegamente en su hermano. En el segundo el él quien tiene que confiar ciegamente en Shiro. Y en ambos casos viven una separación temporal que momentáneamente los deja paralizados.
Los juegos de este volumen están bien pensados y en ellos se corren grandes riesgos. Gracias al contenido del primer juego, podemos conocer mejor a los personajes. Es un juego reflexivo. El segundo juego me pareció entretenido y con bastante acción. Si el autor quería presentar estos contrastes de manera intencional, entonces le quedó muy bien : ).

This vol was so much fun!
I don't know what happened with book 2, but the games, characters, and even writing was just better (or at least less noticeably bad).
My one main complaint is the waste of potential that was the resolution to book 2's cliffhanger. There's a game where memories are exchanged, which is my favorite plot. I love characters seeing other characters' memories, so I was pretty disappointed that while character B and character C swapped memories I didn't get to read any flashback scenes.
Not to mention the cliffhanger was resolved in a chapter.
But moving on, the rest of the book made me remember why I liked book 1 so much. I'm pretty excited to see whats the next game, and props to the author for being able to even write a story where characters see so far ahead. It's pretty cool to see that games aren't won by raw instinct, but by knowledge, and Shiro & Sora have that in spades.
And thumbs up to old geezer get.

The usual comment about its keen target on the male audience aside, I found this volume a bit elaborate with regards to the games used and fabricated, which, I think, is its strongest feature. Not to mention that the gameplay of each character seemed complex as well, making it even more thrilling and distinctive. Imagining and conjuring up the scenes in the story also turned out to be an enjoyable part of the over-all reading experience. And although I still find it hard to connect with the characters because of a lot of their "very" fictional attributes and also because there has been little to no character development shown in most chapters, I nevertheless see all of them as essential (and unique) in the plot.
