READ MY REVIEW ON THE BLOG
Lexi Blake's second in her Masters and Mercenaries series features a menage of two men and a woman. I'm not much of a menage reader...you know...third wheel and three's a crowd or something but once in a while I actually enjoy it.
Shy Serena Brooks is an erotic romance writer and she writes about, you guessed it, BDSM and menage relationships. When she walks into McKay-Taggart Grace, the little matchmaker from The Dom Who Loved Me, pushes her on to Adam Miles and Jacob Dean, two men known for their professional skills as bodyguards, security men, and all around badasses and their preference to share a woman. When Serena presents her case that a stalker threatens her life she encounters nothing but doubts and distrust - first the police, insinuating that it's a ploy to promote the upcoming release of her new book and now Adam and Jake, too. Ian owes he agent a favor and despite their skepticism they are assigned as her bodyguards.
While they spend time with Serena they realize that she's an introverted woman living in her head a lot and with fantasies that Adam and Jake specialize in. They have been friends since their early army days and it's always been about sharing women between them. Lately Adam has felt a need for family but finding a woman who wants both two men AND BDSM is the literal needle in the haystack. When Serena comes into their lives their distrust gets in their way a lot. Too many aspects of her story don't add up. Serena's pull is strong though and despite their doubts they give into their dreams about a future with the sweet writer.
I loved Jake and Adam separately, they both were wonderful in their own way. Jake is this reserved alpha male who has been hurt and doesn't trust anyone. You need to earn his affection and trust. Adam on the other hand is uninhibited, charming and outgoing. I expected them to have this amazing bromance but for some reason I didn't feel it. It felt like they were just two friends who liked to share a woman but that's it.
I don't know what it is about these characters in this series but they just don't behave the way I expect them to behave - when their feelings for Serena are put to the test they fail. Completely and utterly. Like Sean in the first book they think the worst of Serena, not even giving her a chance to have her say. No, they were downright cruel and hurt her so deeply that she retreats into herself.
She’d handed them her heart and gotten back a mottled mess. She couldn’t get past that moment when they’d rejected her. It would happen again. Potentially over and over again.
On the other hand we have Serena, who is a little mousy but blossoms under Adam's and Jake's attention. When they disappoint her she is mad and I LOVED that she didn't let the men walk all over her. But there's a point when it's being dragged out for too long and while I understood that Serena wasn't very self-confident and had abandonment issues I felt that she was turning in circles in her mind always coming back to why a relationship with these two men wouldn't work. She had a huuuuge chip on her shoulder. All three of them acted like petulant, sulking children who didn't get what they wanted and I have to admit that it was a little tiresome. It all led to a BDSM scene I wasn't a big fan of. Instead of helping Serena overcome her fears and forgive them they made her go to an even darker place and I have no idea how she forgave them. I wouldn't have at that point.
He’d been up front and honest about everything he wanted, and the first mistake he made she’d tossed him out without even being willing to listen to an explanation. He’d been down that road before, and he couldn’t do it again.
The irony of this wasn't lost on me - Adam complained about the exact same thing he did to Serena (and SHE hadn't even done anything).
Now I know that this is a lot of criticism but as I said. I actually liked these characters. They weren't bad people but every single one had issues of their own and those weren't the easy kind and they let those issues control them.
Despite this being erotic romance there isn't a lot of sex in this book, definitely less than in book 1. The really strong aspects in this story are the plot and suspense. I said it before - Lexi Blake excels at writing suspense. I had a suspicion who the perpetrator was but then she topped it by adding an element I didn't see coming despite it being obvious. But maybe that's why it was so unexpected! The suspense is the best part of these books and I hope that the romance works a little better for me in Liam's book. I really like his character. I also have this hate-love for Ian - I think he'll challenge my patience like no other in this series.

This book is epic!!! I don't remember the last time I laughed so much while reading an erotica, especially a BDSM one :D
The angle with the main woman writing erotica, loved it ahahaha and the dudes making fun of "pussy Doms" from those books was hilarious!
The main guys were funny in the previous book and they were funny here too, though they did have some Uber dense moments but whatever. I enjoyed this book so much, I don't really care XD.

It started great, and I was a little afraid it wouldn't work for me, as I didn't like book 1 that much.
Unfortunately, the push and pull between the main 3 characters quickly came to a closed circle, redundant, and I couldn't understand the heroine's reluctance to accept what she had wished for so long when it was finally right at her door...
I liked that both Jake and Adam, even when they were fighting like children, but didn't understand how 2 men knowing each other for so long, dreaming the same dream for so long, could gave into what seems like a petulant quarrel?
Too many contradictions and changes of heart in this story, led me to disinterest quickly enough to not even care for an Hea...
I must highlight the fact that I LOVE Lexi Blake take at James Bond titles!

Summary
Serena Brooks is a author who knows that she has a dangerous stalker. She write erotic romance and is proud of what she writes, she may not be on a top best seller lists but she has a good following. However when she goes to the police for help they give her the run around and don't even take her seriously, they believe she is doing it herself for publicity. So Serena is talked into going to a specialized group for help, a organization of men that work for the government and do hired work if necessary. But when Serena goes for a consultation, she is practically rejected by two men Adam and Jake who work together in concert. When their boss finds out, heads roll and they are ordered to stay by her side and protect her until they can find out who is really behind it all. But their stalker is right under their nose and is more dangerous than any of them can imagine, and Serena is in great danger if they can't find the stalker first...
The Hero
We have two heroes in this book. We have both Adam and Jacob. Now these two are as close as brothers, and they need to share a woman for them to be satisfied. They are both looking for "the one" that can make it a perfect trio. Adam is carefree and playful and Jacob is cautious and domineering. They balance out the menage relationship just right. I actually liked both of these characters and they do balance each other out both in and out of the bedroom. Now Jacob is the official "Dom". He went through the official training and has the mindset of it. Adam can be in the mindset, but is more tender and careful and doesn't have the patience for the Dom Course the club provides. I did enjoy both of them and they are a hoot when they get together. They make you laugh your socks off constantly and their bantering is so witty and fun to see.
The Heroine
Serena is a rising erotic romance author who focuses on BDSM and menage. She has never experienced it on her own though. Her ex husband was very vanilla and put her down constantly because of her writing and the books she liked to even read. Serena struggled with her self esteem because of the way her husband treated her. She doesn't believe she can give Jacob and Adam what they need and her greatest fear is that she will never be enough. Serena goes through some changes in this book, she explores her fantasies. I really liked her character quite a bit, sometimes her fears get in the way and she learns to overcome her fears to build something real with Jacob and Adam.
Plot and Story Line
In The Men With The Golden Handcuffs we have another suspense erotic filled romance that curls your toes despite the flaws in the story. I didn't quite enjoy this one as strongly as the first book. A couple reasons (try to get the negative out of the way first) first is the BDSM aspects are much stronger in this book. I wasn't a fan of one of the scenes. There is a moment in the story where Jacob and Adam are asses...like really they are jerks and put Serena back to a dark place especially when they know what she has struggled with and and when she withdraws from them they try to use punishment to bring her back to them. It does have some complexity to it, but I didn't like the way they went about it. Now what I have loved about this series so far is that these books aren't solely based on BDSM...they have some good strong plots to the story and yeah there were some pretty dang good moments that had me at the edge of my seat. The humor and witty bantering in the story balances out the serious moments in the book.
I had a fun time seeing this relationship grow. All three make mistakes but they also learn they are very good together. Both Jacob and Adam do have reasons for why they act in certain situations, but sometimes they ended up hurting Serena in the process of figuring out their own personal drama. But I did love the way they stumbled but kept working harder to make their relationship work.

I really like the colors used in this one, the purple and gold just go so well together.

3.5 stars erotic romantic suspense
Well, I really wanted to like this book. This series has just about everything that appeals to me – it’s romantic suspense, erotic fiction, BDSM romance, James Bond themed titles, gorgeous covers (I am a cover slut after all), uber-alpha badass arrogant males who also happen to be hot doms and sweet submissive heroines who have only ever read BDSM and never actually indulged in the lifestyle but really want to give it a try. This book is better than the first one but I still don’t think it ever fully hits its stride.
Jake and Adam are the fun loving doms into menage working for Ian Taggart’s company (I can’t wait for Ian’s story) who are devoted friends who really want to find a submissive woman to share and settle down with. They really appealed to me in the first book with their easy going demeanour, dry humour and zest for life. Unfortunately they both went through a bit of character transformation in this one.
Serena Brooks walks into their agency to ask for their help. She’s an erotic ménage writer under the pen name Amber Rose and she has a psycho stalker. Jake and Adam are instantly attracted and assigned as her bodyguards.
So the plot is great but I realised what was bothering me – I found the characters and their actions and reactions really hard to understand. Adam had several major sulks and one all out hissy fit during the course of the story and Jake morphed into Jake the Jerk. Often, Adam would get really pissed off at something and I would be like all “WTF” and would have to reread the last few pages to work out what had pissed him off. They often seemed to react like teenagers – stomping off in a fit of pique at the slightest thing. They do sort their shit out towards the end of the book but the threat to Serena is escalating and they almost leave it too late.
For an erotic romance, there’s not loads of sex but what there is, is pretty hot and the golden handcuffs do finally make an appearance. I do intend to carry on buying and reading this series and I am especially looking forward to Ian’s story although I suspect Lexi Blake is going to make us wait for that one. Liam is up next.
So 3.5 stars mostly for the hot menage sex!

I fell in love with Adam Miles and Jacob (Jake) Dean in book one, The Dom Who Loved Me. They were hard and soft opposites who were a team in every way, including both being Doms in D/s ménage relationships. They didn’t have a permanent sub but were always looking for the perfect woman. They were former Special Forces who were working for McKay-Taggart Security Firm.
Serena Brooks was an erotic romance writer. She currently had a stalker who was escalating but the police and her ex-husband didn’t believe her and thought she was trying to get PR for her books. Her agent hired McKay-Taggart to keep her safe and find her stalker.
I loved all main characters. They each had their own role and fit perfectly. They were a mixture of beautiful, funny, sarcastic, intense, brooding, strong and creative. The storyline was multi-faceted with the development of D/s relationships, hashing through all past baggage and sorting through a suspenseful theme. The book was a little longer than necessary but it was written and developed well creating a quick page turner experience.
Blake continued to develop the strong cast of secondary characters providing continued interest in the rest of the series. I’m also hopeful that Bridget and Chris will get their own stories. For now, the mysterious and cynical Liam is up next in A Dom is Forever.

Blake continued to develop the strong cast of secondary characters providing continued interest in the rest of the series. I’m also hopeful that Bridget and Chris will get their own stories. For now, the mysterious and cynical Liam is up next in A Dom is Forever.

This book is about an erotic romance writer who is getting stalked by a reader of her books, threatening her for writing books for “Whores” She hired two bodyguards to investigate who is stalking her and also to full time protect her. Jake and Adam are best friends and pretty much only do relationships with each other. This is a MFM romantic suspense, with some BDSM as well because jake and Adam are apart of a BDSM club and are doms themselves.
The chemistry was good, the steam was also fantastic (not overlyyyyy frequent tho), and the development of the relationship was pretty realistic, but that meant there was a lot of mistakes and eventual groveling on the guys part. The mystery was also interesting and ended in a satisfying way!

Apologies to my friends who LOVE this series, but I cannot take the arrogance of the Heroes and the way the heroine's expressed wishes are often disregarded as if irrelevant (because the alpha male automatically assumes he is right). The villains were not real credible in my opinion, and they lacked any depth that would make them more interesting. This is the last one of this series for me.

More Dick and Jane funtimes with the humongo BDSMing Doms in Masters and Mercenaries and little h’s.
This time we have not one but two heroes set out to protect a little woman from her stalker. She writes BDSM so this would appear to be a romance made in heaven. Unfortunately, the boys get stupid and “betray” her and lots of pouting ensues from everyone. Adam and Jake were still entertaining but not nearly as much as in the last book as they are now the ones messing up their own romance with Serena so ANGST and MISUNDERSTANDINGS.

Definitely a standout in the M&M series, not least because it's the only MFM romance (currently at least, though I've high hopes for the future).
Divorced romance author Serena Brooks is being stalked by a crazy fan, so her agent sends her to McKay-Taggart Security for help. The guys on the job are Adam Miles and Jake Dean, best friends who got kicked out of the military for doing the same woman together.
Adam's immediately all over Serena, but Jake's a little warier: what if the stalker has been made up by Serena to boost her writing career? He and Adam go back and forth between trust and distrust, leading to misunderstandings on all sides, apologies on all sides, and finally an awesome HEA.
Part of what makes this so awesome is that we see the trio weave in an out of future books, having kids, etc. This portrayal of a long-term ménage relationship was really interesting, because Lexi Blake doesn't shy away from the kind of questions that can arise after the 'I love yous' have been exchanged. Like, how does Jake feel about the fact that both of Serena's children were fathered by Adam? What about Serena's insecurities at being able to attract and retain not just one man, but two? Blake deals with these kinds of questions in a way that preserves the characters' personalities and lifestyle choices. We love to see it.
(I'm pretty sure their son Tristan is going to be in his own MFM with his best friend Aidan and their childhood crush Carys. I cannot WAIT).
Also, it doesn't hurt that Blake is a really bloody funny writer, and all three of these characters have their moments.

I wasn’t going to write a review for this book but I have time and well I want to post the whole series at some point on the blog & FB.
The ones we love the most we are the cruellest to.
This book is better than the first one in the series but it still couldn’t get over the 3 star mark I’m sad to say.
Jake and Adam are looking for the one and in The Dom who loved me they try to encroach on Sean’s woman well actually only Adam tries to, Jake tries to talk some sense into him but that doesn’t work well.
Grace tries some matchmaking skills and when Serena Brooks walks into Taggart-McKay, Grace makes sure that she is sent to Adam and Jake.
Serena Brooks is instantly attracted to both of them for different reasons. But her main problem is that she has a stalker and the police won’t believe her actually no one does. It has to do with her profession as a writer of ménage she always receives a lot of flak especially from her ex-husband who now wants all her money.
Jake and Adam are also attracted to Serena although it does take Jake longer to stop being such a grumpy sod. They make it clear to Serena that they want her but due to the past it takes them awhile to get past it.
I like how Ms. Blake doesn’t sugar coat the ménage relationship how she has shown us that it requires a lot of trust to make it work and for it to work well. Most books show the perfect the relationship.
I felt as if Adam was in Jake’s shadow half the time which I personally didn’t like. I also would have liked to have seen more of the friendship that Adam and Jake have.
Ms. Blake really knows how to write a story with twists and turns I guessed one of them but not the other. This is a strong and solid series and I will continue with the series. Even the BDSM aspect doesn’t bother me although it intrigues me and I find it odd at the same time.

Serena wants them as well. She also wants to experiment with BDSM so they take her to a BDSM club. There are some lengthy sex scenes. By the 50% point, I just wasn’t interested. A soft 4-stars, as the mystery and action were well done. However the angst level was higher than necessary, do smart characters need to made dumb choices just to deepen the emotional ties? The sex scenes were pretty good, though given the combination of BDSM and Menage, they could have been sizzling.

I was hesitant to read this. Books featuring heroines that are romance authors sometimes comes across as author fantasy and that makes me uncomfortable. However, I love the Nights in Bliss series written under Lexi Blake’s other pen name, Sophie Oak, so I decided to give it a try.
Serena Brooks, pen name Amber Rose, is a best selling erotic romance author who is known for her ménage and BDSM titles. She has a stalker that doesn’t approve of the books she writes and her agent sends her to McKay-Taggart Security for protection. Jake (a Dom) and Adam (a hot beta) are assigned to investigate and guard her around the clock. Jake and Adam always share women and realize immediately the Serena is a sub. They are both instantly attracted to submissive vibes and while Adam wants to act on it immediately, Jake is gun-shy because of his hurt over a previous relationship.
That is supposed to be the plot. I think. What the book is really about is Serena’s career as an erotic romance author and that’s where the strangeness comes in. Because apparently Serena’s fictional career is identical to Sophie Oak’s real one. Serena’s break-out series in Texas Sweethearts. Sophie Oak’s series is Texas Sirens. The plot to Serena’s first book, which is described in detail, is exactly the same as Sophie Oak’s Small Town Siren with some character name changes, such as Sophie’s heroine is Abby, Serena’s is Gabby. If the similarities had stopped there, I might have been okay. Unfortunately, we get a bit of stalker angle, some of Serena’s explorations into BDSM, and a ton of information about Sophie..uhh, Serena’s…publishing career.
The police don’t believe Serena’s stalking claim because she wrote a book about a stalker titled Three Riders, One Love. Sophie Oak has a book about a stalker titled Three to Ride. Serena also has a book about Russian mafia hitmen. One to Keep by Sophie Oak is about Russian mafia hitmen. This continues for a bit as Serena thinks about how other romance authors don’t like her or take her seriously. She only has a few close friends and they are all erotic romance authors. There’s even some name dropping when the guys run into one of her fans.
Then we are back to The Books of Sophie Oak. The stalker sent Serena a vandalized picture that was a cover of her upcoming book. This is the cover description.

Yes, that is Siren Beloved by Sophie Oak. Serena and Jake describe Siren Beloved’s plot and how much her fans are anticipating it. As a side note, the heroine in Siren Beloved is named Lexi and she goes on in later books to become wildly successful as a digitally published erotic romance author, famous for her ménage romances set in a quirky town in Colorado. *cough* Nights in Bliss*cough*
Serena is feeling so safe and secure with the guys, the ideas for her new series are coming fast and furious. It will be set in Happiness, Montana. Sophie Oak’s Nights in Bliss is set in Bliss, Colorado. Happiness, Montana/Bliss, Colorado. God help me.
This is only 35% of the book and you already have all the information on Sophie Oak’s backlist.
Finally, we move past that for a bit. Jake takes Serena to a BDSM club. She thinks about how hot (no pun intended) the fire play scenes in Cherise Sinclair’s books are and how she would like to see that. They come across a scene where Ian, the boss of the security firm, is using a foot long butt plug on a submissive and Serena is a little freaked. Jake informs her he is bigger than the plug, Adam isn’t far behind him, and Ian is much larger. A sex scene finally occurs but sadly I didn’t find it sexy. Serena Brooks is so permanently linked in my mind with Sophie Oak/Lexie Blake that I found it all creepy.
This review is getting way too long. They have a misunderstanding, make up, stalker stuff. Cops once again don’t believe the stalker stuff because the exact same thing happened in Serena’s Sweetheart in Chains (Siren Enslaved by Sophie Oak). More creepy sex. BIG misunderstanding. Adam manhandles Serena, Jake calls her a slut. They realize they were wrong, say oops we made a mistake, don’t make this hard, you know you want to forgive us. They are persistent so she does. Then she has some metal wanderings about her FBI profiler heroine in Missing in Joy (Lost in Bliss by Sophie Oak.) More stalker stuff. Name drops Melissa Schroeder. Liam (another bodyguard) talks about his 12 inch dick. More sex. More naming Oak titles. More stalker. Love conquers all. That’s it in a nutshell.

I’m not sure why I have been slacking on this series, I remember buying this ebook as soon as it came out! I have a thing for a good romantic suspense and Lexi Blake mixes that with some pretty hot sex! What could be better? Nevertheless, here I am, a million books behind this series and getting excited all over again to go back in.
THE MEN WITH THE GOLDEN CUFFS as you would expect by the name is a permanent menage story. In this case this works well because Adam and Jacob are already a unit. Not together themselves, but they’ve always shared their women and have a common goal in mind. To find the one woman they can both love and that can complement their relationship.
They work as a team for McKay-Taggert security and they end up taking a case of an author who needs protection from some pretty serious threats. The mystery of who is behind that (or is this all a PR plot fabricated by the author herself) is still a nagging issue for the men, but on the forefront is the fact they both think she is the perfect submissive for them.
Serena writes about BDSM and submission, but she hasn’t lived it herself. Her ex-husband always put her down for her books and she hasn’t given in to her true nature and admitted these are things she wants for herself, not just her characters. This is where I struggled. Serena herself. I wasn’t sold on her completely, she’s not the most assertive character and she might’ve gotten on my nerves a bit.
Adam and Jacob on the other hand were a perfect complement to each other in their roles of this menage. One is the strict and serious Dom, the other the more caring and sweet. But both are equally pushy and decisive when it comes to getting in Serena’s bed.
A snake, some bad letters and a dead body later we get our resolution. I have to say it wasn’t the most complicated mystery to uncover and I had this plot figured out pretty fast, although I did have some minor surprises in the end.
All in all, this was quite an enjoyable read and it reminds me that I love to read this type of erotic romance, with a bit of an edge. Even though I can’t say they were my favorite characters I do find that I enjoy their agency enough to want all those sexy men to see an HEA. I can’t wait to delve more into the series as I’ve heard the books get better as we go forward.

Even though I can’t say they were my favorite characters I do find that I enjoy their agency enough to want all those sexy men to see an HEA. I can’t wait to delve more into the series as I’ve heard the books get better as we go forward.

I have never read any book by Lexi Blake before. It was time to put an end to this -_-
My thoughts before reading:
I was so interested in the idea of having 2 male leads. I have always read Menage as a thing some couples enjoy doing during their relationship. But I wanted to see how any 3-way relationship works, how they would connect.
Unfortunately after reading it I was disappointed not about the book really, but more about how I didn't connect with the three main characters. Mostly because they annoyed the hell out of me. YES I'M TALKING ABOUT YOU ADAM AND JACOB. seriously nobody would belive it if they are told thery are doms, since they didn't act like it.
It wasn't even Serena the reason I was disappointed though some didn't love her.
We are at least supposed to be captivated with Serena, Adam and Jacob. And here I was only thinking about Ian Taggart. Seriously this guy ROCKS so much that I wanna read his book now.
But aside from my disregard to this relationship, I loved every thing else. The banter between all the men, the stalking, the excitement that comes with mystery. I loved Lexi's writing style so much that I feel awful giving this only 3 stars

This book was fantastic! I loved the plot, I loved the suspense, the characters, and the writing. I could not put it down. It was funny and snarky, and I had to crack up to all the real life references to the author. I loved that. I was begging after reading the The Dom Who Loved Me (literally) for Adam and Jacob's story to be next, so I was immensely excited when it came out a couple of weeks ago.
This story did not disappoint. I did think those stupid boys screwed up a little too easily when certain evidence turned up, but they ultimately redeemed themselves. You would think that having two men, one of them would be the voice of reason to help keep them out of trouble, but no. LOL
But seriously, this is the kind of book I've come to expect with this author and her alter ego. I can't wait for the rest of the series to continue. Liam's book is next, but I am really looking forward to Ian's book. I can't WAIT for him. I wonder who he'll end up with. Possibly Serena's friend Bridget??

I LOVED this book, and I loved the bond between Adam and Jake. They weren’t lovers, but they knew each other on a soul-deep level. Their histories were sad, but I was happy they were able to overcome them. Serena was cute and quirky. Like Adam and Jake, she also had some insecurities she needed to work through. I thought the connection and sex between the three had less steam, but more emotion. I also thought the feel of Adam and Jake’s story was lighter than Sean’s.
I enjoyed the little glimpses into the other characters. The more time I spend with Ian and Liam, the more I fall in love with them too. They’re hard, but they have an amazing capacity to love and protect. All of the men in this series are sexy, dark and dangerous, dominant, and frickin hilarious. I absolutely adored the elevator scene. There were so many priceless moments between the characters, like Liam’s hysterical advice to Jake. I found myself enjoying the humor as much as the action and sex. I just cannot get enough of this series.

I would give this 3.5 stars. I'm not sure I would go with 4 stars. I felt like I wasn't as immersed in this book as I should've been. I don't think I really was well invested with the characters. Oh, I liked dominant Jake, metro-sexual Adam, and writer Serena, but I don't think their characters involved me as much as the first book. I will be interested in reading the next book with Liam. I'm hoping that I like that one better.

I was introduced to Lexi Blake when Shayla Black and Lexi Blake worked on a book series about virgin’s and the men who love them. Interesting concept. I had read Shayla Black’s books a few times but had never heard of Lexi Blake before. Her first book in the series, The Dom Who Loved Me, left me a little upset with the hero of the book. I felt at one point he used the heroine and the heroine just let him do it. Some unforgivable things were said in my mind, but in the this book, Sean and Grace are married and having a baby soon, so I guess it all worked out.
Moving on to the second book, we see Jacob (Jake) and Adam again. In the first book they went undercover as a gay couple. Actually they aren’t gay at all. They are the two halves of a whole man in their words. They love each other but aren’t in love. In fact, they are looking for the one woman who will complete them. One woman who they can love, dominate and share.
Adam is a little metro sexual. He is organized, loves clothes, wears a suit most times and generally takes care of the people he loves. His family has disinherited him thinking he is gay after he is discharged from the Army. He never seemed to be good enough for them.
Jake doesn’t think much of himself other than the muscle of the couple. He protects, but thinks no one really loves him. While he has a family, they never settled in one place. Jake and Adam meet at basic training and have inseparable since. When the two men are caught in an affair with a woman they thought they loved, they are discharged even though they are commandos in the Army.
A band of men and one woman come together to form company called McKay-Taggert. They take on cases that no one else will. Ian Taggert brings on his brother Sean (who has now left after the first book) and Sean’s two men, Adam and Jake. Adam is the computer hacker while Jake is more the physical guy. All of the men working for McKay-Taggert are Doms. Ian also owns a BDSM club that most are certified to be a Dom at. Adam, while an alpha, doesn’t want to spend three weeks of his life in Ian’s program to be certified to Dom at the club.
When Serena Brooks comes in looking for help with a stalker, Adam is instantly attracted to her, but Jake is more cautious. Having been burned, Jake doesn’t want to get involved, especially with a client. But Adam works quietly on both of them to realized they have something here. To top it off, Serena is an erotic romance author of ménage and BDSM books under a pen name, Amber Rose.
As the stalker starts upping his game, the three start tangling in the throws of lust when the guys do something I found utterly unforgivable. I can’t say what without spoiling the story, just I don’t know if I could have forgiven them. Serena is ultimately hurt so bad by this. And I felt the two men knew this and played upon what they knew about her to ease what they felt was betrayal.
There are some interesting side characters, Bridget and Chris. Bridget and Chris are also erotic romance authors who back up Serena so absolutely, I wish I had friends like them. Chris is male, gay and a sub even though they don’t go too deep into that. He is Serena’s gay husband as they explain in the book. Bridget is a loud mouth, tell you like it is. They had hearts of gold and stood my Serena through everything.
I had two favorite quotes in the book that had me laughing as I can imagine saying the same things about some of my favorite authors.
"She wanted to watch a fire play scene. She’d read a book by Cherise Sinclair with a fire play scene, and it had sparked her imagination."
I too adore Cherise Sinclair and the fire play scene was awesome.
Then there is this one:
"Leah, who was called Officer Nelson from her badge, gave Serena a smile. “Of course. Right this way.” As they walked off, she leaned over, and Jacob could barely hear her words. “I heard you’re a writer. That’s so cool. Hey, do you happen to know Melissa Schroeder? I love her books. What do you write?”"
Melissa Schroeder! Yes, this author knows my favorite authors and worked them in to the story.
Then there is the part that made me a little sad. See Serena writes about love, romance and the thing she fantasizes about: having two men love her with one being the total Dom. Fantasies don’t have to be reality, but they can be as well. So I loved this quote from the book.
"Her fantasies were harmless. Why was she being punished for them? Why would any woman be punished for them?"
If there hadn’t been the big betrayal in the story, it would have been a fabulous story. Unfortunately, that part really made me mad. The sexy scenes were awesome. The action was done beautifully. I felt the emotions of each character come rolling through the story as they all hurt, felt lust and then love for each other. A good addition to the Masters and Mercenaries series.

Menage Romance.
The h, an erotic romance author finds she has a stalker - who stalks her on the Internet, sends her hate texts and emails, KOs her car - so she tries to find help. No one believes her, in fact everyone without fail seems to think she's an attention/publicity seeking fake that I'm wondering the h didn't get a persecution complex.
She even thinks :
“In some ways, finally getting murdered would be a relief. She was totally putting “I Told You So” on her tombstone”
Yeah. Not funny.
h doesn't have the best support system. Her parents have passed on, she lost her friends to her ex in the divorce, she has 2/3 close writer friends who she trusts but noone else. She was so busy trying to establish herself in her career that she didn't date. The ex is also suing her for money now.
The book is set in a world where the H's are Doms and frequent BDSM clubs, so they have the Dom-sub equation going on with the h. The h is submissive.
In some ways I liked the h, she was a messy artist type, spaced out at a random moments, kept muttering to herself, was always curious about stuff she could use in her novels, had quirky routines that made me laugh and was a softie. She was good at her job and financially successful, so that was admirable.
But she was also too soft apologising all the time even when the H's were being asses, on the verge of tears every other minute, one of those h's who say 'Oh, no I won't fall for this guy' and gives in every time because he's sooo hot. She was always putting herself down( in addition to everyone else who was doing the same thing), had body issues. She stayed in a bad marriage for years - and she was ashamed of herself for that, she was ashamed for crying all the time for being weak, for being awkward. Ugh it drove me up the wall. It was NOT pleasant being in her head.
When the H's got in her face she backed down every time even when they were being jackasses and even when they were rude, she turned around and was nice to them, she was a people pleaser.
At times though she was clear about what she wanted - which was good bcos I was starting to wonder how she survived to grow up to be an adult.
When something happens to make the H's think the h did this as a publicity stunt, the h's are brutal to her, insulting and verbally abusive, they almost throw her out of the house naked and twist her wrist in their anger hurting her. And this is the morning after they sleep with the h. They're like
“Treat her like that snake....She bites and she’s venomous.”
“God, I don’t even want to look at you. I can’t stand the sight of you”
“The whole quiet and shy thing is a little boring, sweetheart. You would make a much better slut.”
Yet when they get a clue that they might have been wrong they immediately expect her to forgive them. When the h tries to fire them, they don't accept that - which makes me dislike them even more and lose respect for the h. And then they have the nerve to act hurt and distant bcos ' they have to protect their hearts'. F@!$ them!!
When this is happening the stalker is burning the h's house down along with all her worldly possessions. Its two days after this and when the h is sad and distant with them the H is 'brutally angry' because they've done everything they can think of to be nice and kind to her and she still hasn't forgiven them. How about giving her some time, you a**hole?
The h is stupid after this she lets them get into her head and dominate her. She's all like " I don't know what to do!" and her two best friends of course think the H's are insanely hot and the h should give them another chance.
The H's dominate her in the BDSM club, they're really harsh with her administering a heavy painful spanking and withold pleasure and don't even do that aftercare thing. They make her cry - apparently its something they want her to do to show that she cares about them, that she still can be hurt by them.
What about the h crying bcos her butt hurts?! And those screw on nipple clamp thingies sound as if they might hurt too? And the h lets them back into her bed bcos "she was weak", " she wanted to be in the moment".
Eventually the plot is resolved, the villain turns out to be something of a surprise. There is a HEA; I didn't really care. At that point I wanted to rename the book " Two Lunkheads and their Doormat".

This is 3.5 star book. Ms. Blake is a drug for me. I confess to a weakness. Whether she writes under this name or another, if I'm stuck in a rut, her books help me feel better. In this second book in the Masters and Mercenaries series, there is more suspense and I liked it. I wasn't sure exactly the identity of the stalker. I narrowed it down to two people. I'm glad I was partially right. I like being surprised. Ms. Blake did a good job of keeping me riveted.
The characters are really what made me enjoy this book. I don't know how she does it, but Ms. Blake's stories pull me in because of her characters. Jake and Adam are strong men who like to share their women. They've been badly burned before and suffer abandonment issues. I get it. It's sad but for some reason, Ms. Blake is able to convey a bit more which has me actively engaged and wanted the best for them even when they behave like ASSHOLES! Yes, ASSHOLES!
Serena Brooks is an adorable writer of BDSM Menage. It's very interesting to see from the perspective of Serena. I get a better feel for what an erotic author could go through. Ms. Blake does an excellent job of showing how a kinky menage author can be isolated and scorned because of her material. It's infuriating and just appalls me.
I do admit this book did make my mind draw constant parallels which probably didn't exist. It is no secret Ms. Blake is good friends with Shayla Black and Kris Cook. Both of these are popular erotic authors. It makes me wonder if Bridget is a little bit based on Ms. Black and Chris is based on Mr. Cook. This idea rooted in my mind and I couldn't stop thinking and seeing similarities. And while I've been told Ms. Blake is not in a hawt BDSM menage, now I'm starting to ponder...
I digress. The BDSM in this story is more focused on D/s which is enjoyable. It's great for those just starting to read more BDSM. I particularly enjoyed the contrast between different styles of BDSM and how even though Jake and Adam didn't agree with "Master Storm", they didn't trash him. Serena Brooks, aka Amber Rose, is being stalked. Though she has kept her real life name and information a secret someone has found out she's an erotica BDSM menage author. Her publisher/agent encourages her to hire McKay/Taggart security, a private high end firm that provides bodyguards and investigation team, to do what the police have been unable and unwilling to do. Adam and Jacob are assigned to provide 24/7 protection for her until the stalker is apprehended. It is their job to keep her safe as she writes, does promotional events, and researches for her new BDSM menage book. What a coincidence that they are Dom's at an exclusive BDSM club.
I have to say that I absolutely positively loved this book. Right from the start I was drawn into it and was kept on the edge of my seat until the very last page. This book had suspense and a 'who done it' mystery element combined with a hilarious evolving relationship journey that culminated with a major misunderstanding fight that required the climatic menage make up scene (and we all know how good make up sex is right) at the end. No lie. This book was deliciously good not for any specific one thing but because all the elements combined to make this a rare gem of a read.
