This is a powerful account of the story of Africa told through the life of one of its contemporary shapers, Reginald Abraham Mengi of Tanzania. I Can, I Must, I Will comes at a time when Africa is casting a new vision that is guided largely by the power of entrepreneurship. There could be no better guiding light for that vision than the spirit of courage, determination and dedication to self-improvement that is so vividly represented by the life and work recounted in this book.
Like Africa itself, Dr. Mengi is a person of humble origins. But his character and personality were shaped by a family history that imbued in him a sense of self-confidence and commitment to setting goals and seeking to accomplish them. In addition to these personal values, the book also reveals a self-driven person with unflinching commitment to duty. Nothing seems to stand in the way of Dr. Mengi in his determination to reaffirm his self-worth through the pursuit of excellence.
It’s a book which gives hope that with efforts and hard work one can succeed despite of obstacles such as over regulations which are imposed by the government. Any person who wants to venture into entrepreneurship especially in Tanzania should read the book.
I honestly believe that this book should be adapted for high-school students and be used as a part of the school curriculum in Africa. Both as a source of great inspiration, as well as a record of Tanzanian history from the perspective of one of the country's sons this book will help so many people, of all races and nations not only understand the continent better - but also find inspiration to be a better version of themselves. - The many good quotes from other authors and mentors will also expose school children to a wide variety of great people to research.
I must add that Reginald Mengi is a long time friend and mentor, as well as my daughter's godfather. - This review is thus coming from a place of knowing, and from someone that has admired the author for many years. Much of what he says about matters after 2002 I can personally verify and was frequently reminded of specific moments of integrity and good choices as I read the book.
Inspirational and educational book which encourages entrepreneur mindset as well as the role of success in humanity to the surrounding society . It explore the environment that African(Tanzanian) entrepreneur has to face when he/she decide to enter into business venture . I found it very informative and I'm encouraging everyone to get a copy.
As I youth I should learn to start small, respect my business and persevere. Also I should learn the best way to tackle challenges as I go and grow. I am glad i read the book.
I chose the rating because the book has spoken the real context of a person in Tanzania, i love the book. I would recommend to all youth to read most especially if they are starting a business venture and fail on the way. Start small, have the will, the must and the can attitude.
Nice inspiration book though he describes the role of his own values, vision, and perseverance in his remarkable entrepreneurial success. I rated three stars because sometimes everyone got his/her stories to success and it can not be the same or related to others successors struggles.
The book is published by IPP limited which is owned by Dr. Mengi also the author of the book. The writing of the book is simple making it an easy to read autobiography. However, the author fails to capture his life as the main character of the book and chooses to tell an African story that's more inclined to poor governance of Africa and more specifically his country of Tanzania. It's educative in a way but unfortunately I did not get to journey with him through his life which I assume must have been very rich in experience gauging from his success in business. I am pleased that Dr. Mengi took the effort to pen down the book. Perhaps the printing of the book could have been done in Africa and not in India since Mengi appears to be a proAfrican leader.

I've had this review in the drafts for some time. This is because I really wanted to like this book. On the one hand it is refreshing to hear the account of one of the most successsful business men in Africa; how he started and how he got to where he is. It is very hard to come across such books by African businessmen and so I was really excited to read this one. But the truth is, I found the book to be a little all over the place. It mixes his life story, with his views on politics, both current and past with his advice to the younger generation without going into detail in any. This gave the book a shallow feel. Like there is something that he wanted to get across but just couldn't find the words.
