America's favorite Vampire for Hire is back! The thrilling continuation of the Samantha Moon Case Files!
Summer is a great time to visit scenic Richmond, Virginia—except during the start of the American Civil War.
After her attempt to save a young woman goes disastrously wrong, Samantha Moon has wound up trapped in 1862 with no way home to her children. The great, great granddaughter of the Voodoo priestess who hurled her back in time refuses to undo the spell. Worse, the few friends she'd made in the past have seen her true nature. Despite saving their lives, Sam parts ways to spare their sanity.
Alone, Sam follows a rumor to Richmond. Hoping this supposed mystic can help her return home, she rushes headlong into the onset of the Civil War. Trying to convince an alchemist who is morbidly afraid of vampires to help one would be daunting enough even without a war going on. In the chaos of battle, her best hope disappears.
Heedless of what damage she may do to the nation’s timeline, Sam can’t turn her back on those in need. Alas, Elizabeth senses her increasing desperation, and plies the temptation of bloody wounded everywhere.
Sam’s already lost in time, but if she’s not careful, she may lose her soul as well.
J.R. Rain is the author of 110 novels and counting. He lives on an island in the Pacific Northwest, where he's hard at work on his next novel... and fighting off sparkly vampires.
I was surprised that I could not tell who wrote which passages. I could have sworn I would be able to tell . All said, this book is well written &typical of J.R. Rain.
Samantha Moon is still back in time, the Civil War has just started. Sam find an alchemists to help her get back to the future but she must help some slaves to freedom. With the alchemist help will Sam get back to Tammy and Anthony? Great stoey.

Poor Sam! Stuck in the south, at the beginning of the Civil war. Time traveling is a very interesting problem for Sam to have to deal with. And she needs to get home in her own time to her kids. Fun, quick read.
I love all the books about Ms. Moon, very enjoyable and fits well into her world. This book puts an interesting spin into her story. Thoroughly enjoyed this book
Samantha Moon is sent back in time. To 1862! Now she needs to find a man back in 1862 who can help her find a way to get back to the future, without changing the future!
In the previous book, an angry voodoo priestess sent Sam into 1800s New Orleans right in the middle of the Civil War. Wanting to find a way back to her own time, she follows the advice of her inner demon, Elizabeth who tells her to go to Richmond and enlist the aid of an alchemist named Delacroix.
There’s a lot of reality in this story about the raw truth of war, slavery and life in the past.
Footnote: 1) Interesting that her other-dimension flying friend, Talos still is available in another time.
Fave scenes: the mint julep, gathering more bandages, the compelling box and Delacroix’s backpack.
Wouldn't it be amazing to go back in time and see history in the making? To witness the truth and not what someone wrote. To be thankful that we have come so far. While the past had its ups and downs, there were many traits that were good and that have been lost today.....As well as some traits would be better served ended. Unfortunately we don't learn from the past. Sam went on Mr. Toads wild ride. Good job.
This kicks into high gear quickly. It almost leaves you completely confused but once sorted out takes you thru brief romp in history and the beginnings of the civil war. Albeit not completely factual it's a good read, leaving you wish to study history more. The sudden ending has me looking forward to her next adventure.
I really enjoyed reading this book. If you like vampire stories and are interested in a supplemental read for the Vampire for Hire series, you'll enjoy reading this book.
J.R Rain just keeps them coming. Samantha Moon just does not give up once she set her mind to do something. I can not wait to see what other surprises she comes up with. I highly recommend this series. if you like strong willed vampires.
Wow! Again Mr Rain and now Mr Cox have out done themselves with this series and I'm just so glad I got to read all about tem. I forward to the next book.
