. This is a historically inspired, clean, and wholesome romance that details the colorful and eventful history of the West in a small town called Clear Creek, Kansas. Pastor Patrick and Kaitlyn Reagan blended a family that has strong values and have been taught to respect women at all costs.
In this installment, the focus is on Nolan Clancy and Holly Brandt. Nolan Clancy had mostly grown up in Clear Creek, but had just been discharged from the army after many years away from home. Holly Brandt was a child of a mixed marriage (white father and Indian mother), which had resulted in her being treated abhorrently by loathsome people that were filled with hatred or intolerance of another race - most especially toward the Indians during this time frame in that area, most of her life. Nolan did not fit in that prejudicial group and his Christian upbringing had instilled respect and honor toward all women, no matter what their race was. This story includes experiences of severe prejudice and unwarranted acts, yet it also portrayed a dependable, loving, and trustworthy side of humanity as well.
People married for many different reasons in this era. Can you imagine marrying for convenience or into an arranged marriage, for shelter, for safety, or any reason that did not include love? It was done in many instances. The lucky ones fell in love afterward.
The story was not quite as captivating or as in-depth as it could have ventured, even more so than the previous books in this series at least for me, partially due to the brevity and maybe even the plot. However, it was a light and enjoyable read none the less. Also, I did not notice any grammatical errors. So sit down and enjoy the courtship of these two young people.
This is able to stand on its own, but will most likely tie in with the remainder of the series amicably. I look forward to reading about the rest of the family on their individual journey toward discovering that special someone they can't live without.

Nolan's Vow (Grooms with Honor, #8; Montana Sky) by Linda K. Hubalek (Goodreads Author)
I loved this book! Both of the main characters, Holly and Nolan were so enjoyable. It's a sweet romance that just makes you feel good. I really felt Holly's struggle with her mixed heritage. Nolan only sees her for who she is inside. I liked that very much. If you're looking for a "feel good" story, this is one for you!
I DEEPLY BELIEVE THE GOOD WILL OUTWEIGH THE NEGATIVE
I enjoyed this emotional and heartbreaking story that is part of the Montana Sky series but also ties in with Ms. Hubalek’s Brides with Grit book series. Fate has the train stop in Sweetwater Springs, Montana due to the snowy weather and two strangers lives will intersect.
Holly Brandt was the daughter of a soldier and Indian. Living in her life at Forts until her father left the military and went to work in the mines, but with his death, came hardship, and if it weren’t for Myrtle Randolph giving her a place to stay and job in her café, she isn’t sure what would have become of her. Now that Myrtle’s health is declining, she decides to sell her restaurant and move to Billings to be near her daughter and grandchildren. Will Holly be welcomed by Myrtle’s family or left stranded?
Nolan Clancey left home and joined the military when the girl he was sweet on married another man. He had been raised by his paternal grandparents and is returning home to Clear Creek, Kansas to help them in the family business, Clancey Café. Coming home with dreams of his future, brings shock at the deterioration of his grandparent’s health and the family café.
The story is a sad reality of bigotry towards Indians and especially those who are considered half-breeds, like Holly. No matter how talented, helpful, kind, and outgoing Holly is, people, treat her unkindly, say hateful things, and let her know she is not welcome. Nolan was raised to treat a lady with respect, and he sees the goodness in Holly. Can these two have a chance at a future or will prejudice get in the way? What happens when even his own family tries to sabotage his relationship and his first love is back in town, and now she wants him?
Nolan’s Vow is an engaging and realistic romance between two people who probably have fate and a snow storm to thank for even running into each other. Holly is the only one working in the small cafe when a train’s delay because of a snow storm has weary travelers, some more obnoxious than others as well as some townsfolk showing up looking for shelter and food. When some of the customers start to get rude at the delay in service, and begin to make rude comments about Holly’s mixed heritage one man steps up to help. One man’s kindness will change Holly’s life and lead her home.
Nolan was raised to respect and protect any woman, no matter her age or heritage. When the lone hassled waitress at the cafe began to be harassed by some nasty customers he had no choice but to step in. To help, yes, but also to calm down the situation. He found this young woman charming, beautiful and it was no chore to help her out. He stepped in to help a stranger, and found his future in the eyes of a beautiful, exotic woman.
When Holly is left jobless and homeless when the elderly owner of the cafe decides to sell and move closer to her daughter Nolan steps in with a suggestion. One that Holly hesitated to take but once she got her employer and friend to her family knew that she’d have to take. Nolan was heading home to take over his grandparents cafe after years in the military, he offered her a job and friendship. Surprises await Nolan and Holly, most of them of the unpleasant type. While Nolan is a man who sees Holly as a good person, beautiful and talented in her own right… not everyone sees the same. Between discovering his grandparents declining health, the deplorable condition of the cafe, an old love come back to claim him, towns people who aren’t as welcoming as he’d imagined… and a growing affection for Holly, Nolan is faced with some hard facts and needs to make some hard decisions.
I enjoyed Nola’s Vow very much. It’s a deep story with several layers and an entertaining, believable plot. I do feel I have to be a bit vague on the details since this story is part of the Kindle Worlds… and soon this story will either be changed by the author and republished or fade away. I sincerely hope that it is edited as the KW guidelines dictate and republished. It will be a slightly different story then, but one I will be watching for to rediscover.
No matter what happens in the future – I completely enjoyed this introduction to the Grooms With Honor world and will continue on with that series. I like these secondary characters, many who will have their own stories shine in the spotlight – and I’m looking forward to that. I would recommend Nolan’s Vow to any Western Historical Romance reader who enjoys a descriptive story. lively characters and a very good story.
This was a great story's day part of the Montana Sky Kindle World. Two people meet by chance and it ends in happiness. Nolan felt protective of Holly from their first meeting. He knew she needed help and he was raised to always help a person in need. When the cafe she worked at in Sweetwater Springs closed, he was more than willing to escort her to Clear Creek to start anew.
I loved watching Nolan and Holly's relationship unfold. I could feel the sadness that she felt when she was treated as lesser than by others because of her Indian heritage. There was love, and renewal of relationships with a little tension mixed in. The author created strong characters and it was nice to see characters from her previous books appear.
When does love start? For Nolan and Holly, it may be when a snow storm strands a train full of passengers, and Nolan offers to help Holly feed them all. But it may just be a vow made as a young boy to honor and protect. A fine story of honor, family, trust and love.
Nolan met Holly when traveling by train, they got stranded by the snow. The lady that owned the café had fallen. Holly tried to run the café my her self. Till Nolan volunteers to help.
Debra Holland 's Montana Sky Kindle World continue to be delightful stories to get lost in reading. This author was new to me and a smooth fit the writing style and the heart of these historical romances.
While the story was sweet, it was sugary sweet and had no body to it. I thought that the moral of the tale was over laboured at every opportunity which spoilt the story. Holly trusts Nolan completely, then she believes she's misread his intentions...then he misreads hers...then he is stupid enough to accept congratulations on marriage to the wrong woman and not sort it out immediately...on and on it goes. Quite irritating and shallow. I cannot understand how they had become such good friends yet could not communicate! Holly is half Comanche and therefore has to put up with much prejudice. When Nolan walks into the cafe where she works he is drawn to her immediately. As the cafe where she works is closing down, Holly has nowhere to go, so she accepts Nolan's offer of a job in his grandparents' cafe back home in Kansas. Will things be easier for her?
Linda Hubakel’s Nolan’s Vow is a sweet romance set in 1885 and keeps you interested until the end. Nolan was delayed on his train ride home to Kansas from Fort Ellis, Montana after his release from military duty due to a snowstorm. There he meets Holly whose mother was full-blooded Cheyenne and her father white. Always thinking of herself as not important things change when she meets Nolan. Nolan helps Holly in the café feeding the people on the train and keeps her safe from some men that want to hurt her and rob the café. When the café owner decides to sell and move away, Holly is left with a decision…Nolan offered to get her work in Kansas if she wanted to go with him or go out on her own. Holly decided to go with Nolan and learns in Kansas people can be both cruel and lovable. Living with the pastor and his wife builds Holly’s self-esteem as she learns to love herself.
I love a book where the couple had different backgrounds and this book rings true. Nolan is an honorable man who falls in love with Holly, Nolan is white and Holly is part Native American. They have to overcome prejudice from strangers and family to find their happily ever after and it is not an easy road. Luckily they have the support of close friends so they can allow their love to become a reality. This is a clean read with nothing but kissing (marriage comes at the end of the book).
She could cook, serve great food, work the cafe' and bake the best biscuits he ever tasted. Did she have other talents along with her golden heart and beautiful eyes. Yes! Nolan was about to learn he was falling in love. This is a cute story, clean, and it will make you smile. I caught myself reading on to the end and felt better for having read this nice story-line. I highly recommend this book for anyone. In fact, I've already downloaded the next in the series.
This book was interesting from start to finish, war, uniforms, snowstorms, crooks, feeding a train load of hungry people with one waitress , doing both cooking and trying to wait tables also, solider saw her distress and came to her aid ,long talks, half breed waitress and how people were very nasty to her, love in a Lon train ride a new home for a widow and a new state for the Indian girl .I recommend this great book for a clean non sexual read.
This is a light read. It's a sweet romance about two people who respect each other. Holly's treatment by some makes you cry. Good thing she meets Nolan, a decent guy who doesn't care about someone's skin color. I especially enjoyed the woven-in history of the mountain territories. And Kansas is described so well that I recognized a lot of the area and towns since I lived in Ft. Riley for over five years. All in all, this is a pleasant read for all ages.
Unfortunately, prejudice is as old as time. Holly, daughter of a white military sergeant and Chyene Indian, was raised by her father in various military forts until he retired. Holly and Nolan are faced with bias due to her mixed heritage as their relationship grows. Learn about their problems and how they handled them with help from Pastor and Kaitlyn Reagan and other friends.
After Holly and Nolan meet and begin to travel to his hometown, each begins to see the other in their future, but they don't communicate that. They've only known each other a few days, after all. Trouble is, they don't communicate it well later either until after it causes issues.
Add to that the trouble of his grandparents not communicating how bad off things had gotten with the café or at home.
You don't always realize how prejudices can harm others. It is do ugly. To pidgeonhole people based on culture, race or creed. This book shows a glimpse of the damage such behaviour can have on others. I like that it has a happy ending, and great warm- hearted people in it too.
Finally, a story with compassionate characters, interesting dialogue, and old west background. Loved the clean interaction between characters. Well written and thoroughly enjoyable. Can't say enough. Loved all of it. Will recommend this author to family and friends.
This was a really good story. Hard to put down. Highly recommend to everyone.
Very good story, very hard to put down. It just shows you people have not changed much over the years, they are still judgemental of others because they are who They are. Shame! Highly recommend to everyone.
Holly has a difficult life being half Indian and half white. She isn’t seen as the women she is but sad her skin shows her to be. Nolan doesn’t see what everyone else does. He sees a beautiful women that he wants to get to know. They face so many people that don’t see Holly as he does. It is a sad case but it is a hea even with all their obstacles.
This book is love story. It has many twists and turns. It is a story that deals with bigotry and acceptance. It's historical setting lets us know that bigotry has been around for a long time. However this story shows us how we can a common ground without hatred
How refreshing to read an "Old Fashioned" love story. No bad language , no needless unnecessary over the top sex scenes, just a good plain well written romance....oh joy !!!!
Nolan is out if the army and traveling to Kansas to take over his grandparent cafe. His train is snowbound in Montana. There he meets Holly and helps her feed the stranded passengers from the train. Holly travels with him to Kansas to work in his restaurant.
This was a great storyline plus a good history lesson! Loved how the author have you a real feeling for the old army base where her mother and sister's were buried! Going to have to read more of this series!
I really liked this story , the characters and the descriptions of the towns and the people. I could almost fancy myself being there, walking the dusty or muddy streets or eating the wonderful food. I just loved this book.
