Rating: pg + for violence, fear, gore, death, mayhem. No profanity, no sex (a little kissing, some dating)
Recommend : hs and up- characters are college age.
It’s a graphic novel, so it’s not totally horrifying, a little scooby-doo “meddling kidds” but there are definitely lots of dark twists and turns, a really bad bad guy, and lots of death. More of a sci-fi / fantasy book if it was prose, a little dr. Frankenstein, a little dr Jekyll. But I found the telling to be a little jumpy - there were places where I didn’t realize the story had shifted scenes, so was confused for a minute. The flashbacks / dreams could have been more clearly delineated. I’m not sure the ending was explained well either :/ and… some of the conversation bubbles seemed to be mixed up. That didn’t help, for sure lol.
Ultimately, the problem may be more with me than with the story itself: horror is absolutely not my genre. Fear is present enough with me without adding to to through my reading and imagination. I’m giving 3 stars to the work as it stands, not as my preferred genre. Too violent / horror / mature for our library.
