Things may be complicated, but we were always destined for each other.

“Do you think I’m a psychopath?”

description
This was....weird.. to say the least.
Whilst having never read the four father series, I actually found myself catching on way faster than i anticipated. However, I still couldn't get over how weird it was. How oddly addicting the whole plot was, and no matter how unrealistic - these four sons are actually quite addicting.

description
____________

Short Introduction to the Four Sons Series

What I feel would be really helpful before I get into this review is giving any potential readers (whom, like me would want to read this without having to read the four other former novels) a taste for where the plot and story kicks into.

We are pushed into the plot immediately by the untimely murder of Eric Pearson. He is a well established business-man and a fully deserved titled asshole. He has four sons - Hayden nineteen, Brock seventeen, Nixon sixteen, and Camden fifteen. All four of these boys never grew up with a stable mother figure as theirs 'ran away' when they were young.

Enter Rowan Wheeler

Friends with all four of the brothers, Eric seduced Rowan as soon as she turned eighteen even though at the time, she was dating his son, Brock. (SEE?!?! It's fucking weird). They go on to have a major daddy kink fest full of sex, sex, sex and... love? This not only sets off anger within the four sons, but also Rowan's dad (who is a known serial killer) is NOT happy.

"I didn’t always have this darkness inside me. My soul became tainted, murky with other people’s darkness, their sins raining down over me like acid saturating me, infecting my core."

Massive Triggers
This book was weird because it had so many of the subjective characteristics that should well be established in the dark romance genre. Which, by the cover is this novel - I would have never guessed.

Instead, I would like to raise a glass to the author for stating this before the book even began:
"This novel contains some scenes that may be triggers for the sensitive reader. Please read with caution."

I cannot begin to express my gratitude for this because if I had gone on to read this (which by the way, I was on a 14 hour flight - so apologies for the late review) having not known that there would be sensitive subject material and themes that are considered taboo and dark. This review would be a whole other ball game.

First, the fact that the Nixon and Rowan get together after her being with his dad brings a shit load of double dipping scenarios that I don't even want to take out this book and into the real world. But I guess, this book was weird and unrealistic enough that it worked? The insta-lust and the improbabilities were all so unbelievable that it made this actually pretty fun to read.

Mind you, I fucking loved Camden. So he was another bonus.

Overall, although this novel itself may not have been memorable, the characters and the story certainly was. I don't know if I'm planning to read Brock and Hayden's stories - But I really want to know what happens to Cam.

After finishing the 4th father, I was honestly too scared to start son number 1...

***Spoilers ahead -although most facts are described in the Four Fathers Recap in the beginning of the book.***

...but if you have read Wheeler from the 4 fathers, you will notice in Nixon that almost everything is toned down.

Yes, the father (Eric) is still dead -and I am still not sad about it...sorry but he deserved it.
Yes, Rowan is still pregnant with Eric's baby.
Yes, Nixon still thinks that he is a psychopath and that Eric is not his father. And he is still in love with Rowan.
Yes, Jax Wheeled is still disappeared.

But, the 4 brothers try to appear somewhat normal and provide pregnant Rowan a normal, still weird of course, life.

What I didn't like in the book is that I knew what was happening until the two thirds of the book. You will probably know everything as well if you have read Wheeler.

What I concluded from the book is that

Nixon is the first book in the Four Sons series and I quite literally devoured it! The thing with this story is that you need to read Book #4 in the Four Fathers series to fully understand this book. In fact, even though the Four Fathers series states that it’s stand alone... the best experience will be to read them all in order, and then Nixon right away!

I enjoyed this dark read a lot! I was able to get a bunch of answers that had arose in the last series! I do not have a lot to say regarding the plot or even the characters! This needs to be experienced as your reading it!!Ker Dukey is an amazing author who knows how to write sick and twisted characters in the best way!
She wrapped Nixon’s book up brilliantly and I am eager to see what the other disturbed sons are going to bring to this series! Just don’t expect sunshine and rainbows, this series is more full of thunder and lightening!!!!

Genre: Dark Romance
Type: Book 1 of 4 from Four Sons series
POV: First Person - Dual
Rating:

Nixon Pearson grew up privileged, but that didn't mean he had it easy. As the third brother of four siblings, he might be young but he was matured beyond his years. However, behind the wise eyes laid a darkness that risked being unleashed when it came to the girl he wanted.

I may only be coming up on seventeen, but I’ve been a man a lot longer than I should have been. The world is fucking ugly, and we have to grow up a lot quicker these days.

I love Nixon in Four Fathers and I had a certain expectation coming into this one. But he ended up surprising me in a good way.

I didn’t always have this darkness inside me. My soul became tainted, murky with other people’s darkness, their sins raining down over me like acid saturating me, infecting my core.

While there's darkness in him there's also another side of him that made me saw him in a different light. I love how he handled responsibilities and how fiercely protected he was of the ones he loved.

Unfortunately I couldn't say the same about the heroine. It seemed like the author tried to redeem her, but I don't think ignorance is an acceptable reason. I also felt they didn't have enough chemistry together.

Nixon is a story of doing what's best for the loved ones. I'm looking forward to the other books in the series especially after getting a peek from this one.

Note 1:
There's one thing I'm very unhappy about in this book hmmph!

Note 2:
Those who haven't read the Four Fathers series should read it before this one. At least book 3 and/or 4 to fully understand the dynamics between the characters.

Books in the series:
Nixon (Four Sons, #1) by Ker Dukey Hayden (Four Sons, #2) by J.D. Hollyfield Brock (Four Sons, #3) by Dani René Camden (Four Sons, #4) by K. Webster

I’m not going to rate this JUST YET..

Because

Going into this I thought I’d be able to keep up and understand the storyline being that it’s the first book within the four sons series, but honestly if you’ve not read the four fathers series like myself, I found myself floundering, trying to connect the dots to the gaps that propped up within this novel, so I strongly urge that you start with the four fathers books first because there is a lot of background information that I wished I had of known beforehand, due to this I found it hard connecting with the characters and the storyline.

So to do this book the justice it deserves and to honour this authors work I’m putting this review on hold until I can read the previous series.

I'M REALLY PISSED OFF, OK?

What Eric and Rowan had in Pearson was great. I loved their story, their unconventional romance. People can say whatever they want but it was obvious that Eric loved her, he was willing to be serious with her even after having hundreds of women at his disposal. He chose her. Maybe his reasons at the beginning weren't good, but after he fell in love with her, he was going to marry her and take care of her and their baby girl.

And as if killing Eric wasn't enough for you, you go and make the love of his life, Rowan, stay with Nixon, one of his sons! What the fuck were you thinking? To make matters worse, Rowan didn't dedicate a single loving thought to Eric in this book. It's as if once he died he ceased to exist for her, poof, erased form her memories, which seemed very unreal and insensitive to me because she was pregnant with his baby, wearing his ring! She was supposed to love him! Which makes me think that her love was a pretty fickle thing. I mean, she went from loving Eric to loving Nixon in a millisecond, flat. What does that say about her?

Well to me it means she's an easy little witch.
It disgusts me.

The relationship between Nixon and Rowan didn't seem real to me at all. It seemed that she was lonely and Nixon was the only escape available to her loneliness. And seriously, Nixon deserved better. Not always being in Eric's shadow, waiting for something to happen so he could have his leftovers, because to me it was pretty obvious that Rowan never felt anything (romantic love, lust) for Nixon while Eric was alive. She liked Hayden, Brock even, but never Nixon. Not until her friend said something to her about it. Rowan was so far Nixon's league that her friend had to smack her in the head so she could see he was crazy in love with her. Not romantic. At all.
So this whole book felt like a joke!

In conclusion?

Nixon Pearson has been a good brother and son but he questions the darkness in his soul. A natural protector, Nixon steadily assumes this role and begins to discover what kind of person he can be.

“I didn’t always have this darkness inside me. My soul became tainted, murky with other people’s darkness, their sins raining down over me like acid, saturating me, infecting my core.”

What ensues, is a journey for Nixon as he continues to mature and accepts the added responsibility created from turbulent times. Shifting between past and present, these scenes further develop Nixon’s character. True to his nature, Nixon shows that he is capable of more than he hoped.

“If you’re searching the sea of people you love in your mind right now, then you’re probably not a psychopath.”

In starting this book, I definitely had high expectations and lots of speculative theories about how Nixon was going to transition from the end of Wheeler. While I liked how Nixon matured beyond his years, his test also affected a certain character. In seeing the big picture, I can understand why, and even respect that it was him, but it’s killing me too.

A big problem I encountered was Rowan Wheeler. I didn’t feel she matured (or felt any remorse for her previous actions) and didn’t feel her connection with Nixon. Ultimately, he deserves a stronger partner.

As always, Ker Dukey shows how she is a master storyteller in weaving thrilling elements and taking no prisoners. Nixon’s story was compelling and his brothers remain intriguing.

Nixon is a dark romance about a captivating hero and how he develops into a man.

***5 ‘Am I A Psychopath?’ Stars***

The ending to The Four Fathers was all KINDS of F*cked up.
Hands down. Messed. UP.
And I knew things couldn’t be left the way they were, so when the Four Sons series was announced I was totally excited (and laughed a little when it was made known that Ker Dukey was going first) and couldn’t wait to get my hands on the books and I have to say that Nixon is all kinds of amazing.

Nixon is sweet, stubborn, a little devious and has a bit of darkness in him, but has a way of balancing on the precipice so he never truly falls over. He’s also protective and highly observant, scarily so, and when he makes a decision ~ he gets the job done.
As for “Her” you may have guessed who “her” is, or read other reviews that have stated who she is, but she is definitely a lucky bitch to have Nixon love her as much as he does and alls I can say is that if he’s happy, I’m happy.

This one has it’s dark moments, and BSC things happen, but it was a fun and quick read. I loved getting more glimpses of the Pearson boys ~ Camden is my favorite after Nixon, though he may surpass his brother, but only time will tell, but all in all I’m totally looking forward to getting to know the boys more and seeing where they all find themselves in the end.

I so needed this book after reading Wheeler in the Four Fathers series. It answers so many questions that were left over previously. So far I’m loving how these four authors (Ker Dukey, K Webster, Dani Rene, and JD Hollyfield) each write a book in one of these series, but they are so well done it’s as if one person wrote them all.

This was a spicy short, but what I loved most was the suspense factor that prevailed through the entire book. I wanted to see Nixon in action and I got that with this one. I was also happy to get the update on Lucy and Trevor. This series is a wild ride. Lucky for me all the books are out and I can finish them at my pace.

AGAIN, we are off to a fabulous start and I am super excited about it.

FULL DISCLOSURE: I was scared about this story-line people. If you haven't read Four Fathers or at least Wheeler (book 4) then you have no idea why I would be scared, but if you have ... I know you feel me!!

I cannot tell you how happy I am with everything about this book. There's a lot about the book I won't be sharing because, spoilers, but I will say one thing that shouldn't be a spoiler at all: Rowan and Nixon live HEA *yeeeeeaaa* (maybe, for now, who really knows with these guys?! lololol).

Okay, but seriously. THIS is a fantastic romance story. Nixon has always been years older than his age. He's mature and steadfast and caring and just the whole package. Rowan, altho not my favorite heroine of all time, could not have been a better ying to his yang. It was destined before it even happened :) I loved that we got to connect with all the brothers as well thru this story-line and learn little tidbits about each one of them that gave us an insight into who they will become as they grow or not because who really knows with these ladies! amirite?!

If it's one thing I've learned by reading the father's collective these authors wrote is, that there are no rules and expect the unexpected. All four have a unique style and all four have impressive writing and storytelling skills. I cannot wait for the rest of these boys to get their stories AND to see what these ladies have up their sleeve as a *surprise* twist somewhere ... because you know they have one .... bet me!

After the suspenseful way in which the last book in the four fathers finished I was as looking forward to the four sons. I waited for all of them to be out and I’m diving right in.

I gave Nixon 3.5 and I mostly enjoyed it, I was happy with the way the book ends! Finally this author did one thing right! Every time I read something by her I get conflicted feelings, she lists herself as a dark author but, my fault, I can’t seem to click with her writing, rather than dark I feel it’s just shock value to exaggerate stuff to get a reaction, I see no meaning behind her so called dark characters. Maybe I read the wrong books, I’ll see if I can give her another try.

I found these same faults in Nixon which all in all is a likeable son, not my favourite but totally applaud his fierce love and the way he showed it in his actions... can’t say more as I don’t want to spoil the fun but if you read four fathers and you were left hanging definitely read this to get some much deserved closure.

Read Four Fathers before you read this series. To get the most of this series make sure you read Four Fathers and then Four Sons in order.

I was super excited to read this and I wasn’t disappointed. I absolutely loved Nixon. Rowan and Nixon are so good together. They are meant to be.

Expect the unexpected with this story but you should know that if you’ve read previous books by this author. As soon as I started reading this I only put my kindle down when I had finished. It’s that kinda read.
I seriously cannot wait to read more of this series.

This book is best after reading the 4 fathers HOWEVER you can start with this one, as I have. But you’re going to want to read the fathers after anyway, as I do. Lol.
I loved the brothers! Nixon was so shockingly sweet and yet sour, I fell in love with how hard he loved. This book has addicting characters that make you need more books of them. Which is not shocking for this author to suck us readers in and never let go.

What an amazing start to a new series! This book does a great job on laying down the foundation for what is to come. But at the same time we do get a Nixon romance story in there as well. The author did a great job on combining the two. I thought it was well written and held my attention through out the entire story. I did miss some of that super dark we tend to get from this author but thats ok! I still very much enjoyed the story!

***The following review includes spoilers regarding the FOUR FATHERS series***

The one and only thing I disliked about PEARSON (Four Fathers #3) was how easily the sons accepted their father dating their close, underage friend. The one and only thing I disliked about WHEELER (Four Fathers #4) was that it ended with a cliffhanger. NIXON resolved BOTH of those issues!!! In NIXON, we finally get to hear the thoughts and feelings we weren’t made privy to in PEARSON and all loose ends are tied up. Best of all, we get to really know Nixon (my new book boyfriend)! Although he didn’t end up being as dark or depraved as I had wished or expected, like all of Dukey’s characters, Nixon (and his story) are well-developed, entertaining, intriguing and sexy as all hell!!

When it was first announced that the Four Fathers series was getting a spin-off oh my goodness did I find myself jumping for joy because holy moly did I freaking love those stories. I still remember devouring each and every one of them in one sitting because once I started it was nearly impossible to put them down. The author's; Ker Dukey, J.D. Hollyfield, Dani René and K Webster; sure know how to write some dark and twisted men, which is why I leaped headfirst into their phenomenally captivating storytelling once again.

The Four Sons series is off to a fantastic start and I already cannot freaking wait for the next one! Nixon by Ker Dukey is the perfect introduction into this brand-new series and I think that Eric's sons might end up being even more twisted then him. I am obsessed with these characters and addicted to the author's writing style. It is so hard to believe that this is only the second book I've read from her because her words have consumed me.

While Nixon does have darkness surrounding his soul, he's also sweet in many ways, which melted my heart more times than I can even begin to count. I absolutely love the dynamic behind his story and that we got to see a whole new side of him then in the Four Fathers series. I am looking forward to seeing more of him in the rest of the Four Sons series when his brothers get their own stories!

Although you can technically read this series without reading the Four Fathers, I strongly suggest checking them out because you will gain a deeper understanding behind the characters!

As soon as this baby landed on my Kindle I jumped in and finished it four hours later. If I wasn't trying to sneak read at work, I would've finished a lot sooner. After finishing the Four Fathers , I couldn't wait to start reading the Four Son's. I absolutely fell in love with Nixon. How could you not when you can clearly see how much he loves HER. When you do, you'll fall in love with him too! What I enjoyed the most, is you get to see a side of Nixon you don't see in the previous books. Not only the dark but how devoted he is to the ones he cares about. Lots of surprises throughout the story. What do you expect? If this is taste of what's ahead, I can't wait!

Holy. Hell. What did i just read there? Nixon was insane! For real! I mean, i've read the previous four fathers series *spoiler alert, if you haven't read wheeler beforehand like i hadn't, then you'll pretty much know what happens in that book in the first two chapters of Nixon*.

This book was like a kick in the face with awwwww moments and then the 'holy crap' moment that makes you have to reread that passage, just because. This was nothing like i expected it and i absolutely loved it for that! It was dark, it was intense and it was twisted in so many great ways.

These are the Pearson brothers. If you're read Pearson from Four Fathers, then you have a pretty good idea of which brother is which, but seriously, getting the chance to go into their heads one by one, that can't get any better than that. Before starting this series, i thought we were getting the four brothers stories, of the sons of the four fathers. Yeah. Nope. You're really getting Eric Pearson's sons in your face and you have to deal with all the crap they went through as they digest the information.

I wish i could say as much as i would like about this book, but i won't because it'll only take away from the story, and trust me, whatever you think you know about Nixon, you're not even halfway close to the truth. Trust. Me. This boy. Man. Child. Partner? Who knows what to call him, but Nixon is everything you never saw coming and more.

Now i can't wait to read the rest of this series and find out more about these brothers and see if i was as wrong about them as i was about Nixon.

Nixon , wow... What a way to make a entrance! An awesome debut for a new book series.

This is book 1 of the Four Son's Series the continuation to the hugely successful , entertaining and must-read Four Father's Series . You'll get better understanding and enjoyment if you read that series first.

Ker Dukey has done an amazing job with the tone and feel of this book . She knit together a tale that it's fluid , captivating and feels real . Nixon as a character comes across as a badass superhero with sociopath tendencies and with each page you fall in love more and more with him . Rowan the heroine undergoes a transformation of sort , her angst , what she goes through , it touching and genuine. Through glimpses into the other 3 brothers lives we get the idea that their stories are going to be
crazy and intense roller coasters.

This book lives up to every promise; it's full of twist and turns while revealing many questions we had at the end of Four Father's Series.

This a layered, eloquent, unpredictable and satisfying story , that will take hold of your imagination and won't let go. I truly enjoy reading this book. I received an ARC of this book for my honest review.

Just FYI , once you start reading it won't be able to put the book down. You will love it from beginning to end.

I cannot wait to read Hayden, Brock and Camden stories.

SIDE RELATED NOTE:
Reading Nixon story it's akin reading The Four Father Series from a completely different dimension.
It equivalent to learning things "the Thomas Edison way" and accepting it BUT then BOOM ; here comes the incomparable Nikola Tesla and tells you not so fast , here are how things really are! Get ready to get your mind blown away!

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.

Nixon is the first book in the Four Sons Series. A four book set that are by four different authors just like Four Father's were. I read a couple of the Four Fathers books but missed two of them. It did not affect my reading of Nixon though and there was a summary of what happened in Four Fathers in the beginning of this book.

Nixon is devious, a dark soul, and a son to a dead man-or is he? He plans many moves ahead to get the results he wants. Her. Things may be complicated, but we were always destined for each other. he will protect her from any threat and defend his interests, even if it means going against his own brothers. His name is Nixon Pearson. He is ruthless and deadly, but also devoted. People may think he is young and naive, but that's just a mask he wears to fool them.

Nixon is such a great start to the Four Sons. You get the back story of the goings on after the death of his father. He also in this book is trying to figure out if he is a psychopath. He and Rowan are absolutely amazing characters and I loved spending the time we get to with them. I loved their friendship but I also loved how they loved each other. Nixon is so protective of two people in his life. He would do absolutely anything for them. While he may think he is a psychopath, I think that he is a young man trying to learn his place in the world but will not no matter what it takes let anything happen to those he loves. This book has dark tones but is absolutely amazing. You do not want to miss the start of this series.

Nixon
by Ker Dukey

Dukey has quickly become one of my favorites. I often wonder about her level of depravity. The stuff she creates in her books is not normally for the weak or easily triggered.
What can I say- She bad and I love her.

Nixon’s Story was pretty amazing.
I really thought it was going to go one way and she totally switched it up and took a turn a didn’t see.
Nixon finally got answers about his past AND his future.
I’m not sure it could have gone better.

Rocking little novella!

Happy Reading Peeps,
Nic

I have never read Four Father series but I already know I will love this story.
Thank you author and indiesapr for the ARC, I love the story!!!!

A 4.5 star for this book, the story is easy and romantic. Yes at some point I did think Nixon is a psychopath but NO because he will kill because he wants to protect the one he loves. Rowan is lucky to have Nixon on her side, Nixon took care of everything for her, love her and care for her truly.
Highly recommend this series to everyone who likes a complicated love story.

This book starts out where "Four Fathers" ends. We have a lot going on and all 4 boys have a lot of growing up to do. They have big feet to fill and I don't think they are going to be able to do it. Yes, their father was a dick, but they had everything given to them. Now they have to grow up and do it themselves.

Nixon is the youngest brother. He is also in love with his fathers would be girlfriend, Rowan.

Rowan is Nixon's age and pregnant with his sister/brother. I know missed up right? But that is what we get for this wonderful story. Rowan's father is also the one that killed Nixon's father.

I liked this story. Watching Nixon and Rowan grow up after everything they had to go through after what her father has done to them. This is a must read..

Nix!!! He's right up there with my favorite crazy men, though Nixon definitely falls a bit more on the sane side of things. I really enjoyed his story, I wasn't all that pleased with his choice of heroine, I found her more annoying in this book than she was in the previous books and I think Nixon could have done much better.
