Ouch! Stanley accidently caused twin acrobats Yin and Yang to take a tumble right before their Chinese New Year show. Yang's foot is broken -- but luckily, Flat Stanley is flexible enough to take his place. To make up for his mistake, Stanley travels to China to help out -- but can he learn all their amazing tricks in time?
My 7yr old enjoyed reading this chapter book out loud to me over a period of time. It had some challenging words that he needed help sounding out, but all in all he built a lot of confidence as he could read most of this to me and figure some out with the pictures. Very engaged. So proud of himself with all "8 Chapters!"
My six-year-old and I have been reading through the Flat Stanley series and this was our first of Stanley's Worldwide Adventures. I was quite disappointed with this story. While it was great to have Stanley experience the wonders of China, the book heavily focused on the concept of Yin/Yang and balance, which was a little over my kindergartner's head. We have greatly enjoyed using our imaginations with all the things Stanley can do while flat, but it was hard to picture the Flying Chinese Wonders spinning so fast they fly up into the air or linking together to make a circle that easily rolls. Stanley causes an accident that injures one of the acrobats and he admits his mistake and heads off to China to prepare to take Yang's place. Just when you think Stanley is going to make amends for causing the injury, he himself gets injured and Yang is miraculously healed. The story line wasn't great for me and the lessons Stanley usually learns about acceptance and friendship were harder to find.
These are fun, short books that we read in 1 or 2 sittings. The kids like the adventure, especially the fact that it takes place somewhere fun, usually a different country. Stanley follows the rules (mostly) and love his family. He always learns good lessons and is a good person to learn from.
Another cute story in the adventures of Stanley Lambchop. Interesting overview of China and some of the great places to visit. Also a good look at emotions and belonging.
Ok, so it actually only took me a day to read. It's been in my to read pile for a while.
Another great story about Flat Stanley who is feeling a bit sad by the whole being flat. He also is feeling a bit unappreciated as he keeps ending up given jobs because of his flatness. Holding posters, being the spotlight since the fuse blew and so on. He has an accident and hurts a performer so has to help out in his place. He travels to China...
Another great new story, and highlighting a new country.
Flat Stanley is a fun character just because he's flat. Other than that these books don't have a lot going on. They're OK beginning chapter books for kids that don't want a lot of story.
Stanley joins the circus! He helps out some friends by joining the Flying Chinese Wonders, however he must past some tests to see if he is worthy, watch out for the panda!
Stanley is off on yet another adventure. The book was par for the course, but didn't include the chapter at the end that gives more information about the country. I was sad about that.
