This was the first time I ventured into anything SCI-FI related and I felt like it was a good stepping stone into the genre, heavily hyped on space exploration and travel but at it's core centres an enemies to friends story in the midst of the fight of two nations over a single planet.
The one thing I struggled with at the beginning was the information dump and names. Of course with a new book there is a lot of story telling and back story to proceed with, but it felt obtuse at times. I think the thing that made it worse was the fact, the names themselves were so farfetched from any names we're use to and the tribes/people and learning about the history of the planets, I found it increasingly confusing. I was constantly skipping to the glossary at the back until I got the hang of it.
This two part series, certainly delivered on shock value, with the storyline keeping you in check, turning things on its head, every time you think you know exactly what's going to happen!! Surfice to say, I thoroughly enjoyed this one!! It's an epic tale of love and sacrifice in the back drop of an interstellar showdown.
I really loved the first book of this series but the second book was a little bit of a let-down. The world is amazing and very original but I think the plot became predictable and the writing of the second book started to fall flat a little bit. However, I would still recommend this book to Veronica Roth and fantasy fans.
I absolutely adored both of these books....I have come to be a huge fan of Veronica Roth....also having read the Divergent series as well....I found the science fiction aspect of this book fascinating along with the character development.
-i liked this series. -the first book was better than the second. -the character development, world building and plot twists were well written and done. -i thought there would be a third book especially after the ending of the second book. I think we need to know what will happen next. -it could’ve been more intense but it was still good.
