This was another clear and concise commentary to Ephesians.
If someone is new to the scriptures, needs a refresher, or wants another perspective into Ephesians, this is a good starting point.
Even though this is a “shorter” book, some of the themes can get very deep and possibly unsettle you, so having Joyce along can help you with some of the confusion and find out what questions you can have after studying this book.
I read this biblical commentary as a devotional and it’s fantastic. Deeply rooted in the word, it’s educational and inspiring. This is a fantastic tool to dig deeper into the Bible and keep yourself rooted in the word. Going forward, any biblical commentary from Joyce Meyer will be an automatic read for me. This was a fantastic book!
Ephesians: Biblical Commentary is an easy-to-read, highly accessible commentary for the beginning Bible student and for anyone who wants to learn more about the Bible but needs it broken down in plain English. Joyce’s commentary is written in the everyday language you’d expect from her, making these commentaries much easier to read and understand than most.
This commentary opens with background information about the book of Ephesians, and then goes through each chapter with commentary on the verses. The sections open with the text of the verse in the Amplified translation which is nice for convenience – adds Joyce’s commentary on the passage – and ends with journaling space for personal reflection.
This format turns these commentaries into a great alternative to your traditional daily devotion if you only have time to do one and you’d like to learn more about Scripture!

Insightful devotion that goes through the book of Ephesians. You can easily do one chapter a day which can be more than 30 days of devotions. 90% of the devotions has a section called Personal Reflection where you can reflect on the section of verses that Joyce Meyer goes over. As always you get a lot of what Joyce Meyer's writes and will be challenged in your daily walk.
A short time ago I received Joyce Meyer's Biblical Commentary on Colossians as well as her book on Galatians from the publisher for review. In the process of reviewing the book on Colossians, I felt led to preach through the book of Ephesians at my church, and since I was so pleased with her book on Colossians (I am also working through the book on Galatians as we speak) so I decided to order her book on Ephesians. I am fully aware that Mrs. Meyer gets grief from some people in the church, but I like her and have always found her refreshing. She has a plain spoken, and forgive me for saying it this way, but "No-bull" approach to presenting God's Word. I have seen her speak "live" several times and have been duly impressed. This is the case in these books as well. She goes through these verses in order by theme and breaks them down concisely and very effectively. I found many great insights in these pages and the book will be very helpful as I go to present this series. What I love about these books, is her style. Often commentaries feel like the author wants to impress me with their huge words and dense theological terminology. Mrs. Meyer takes a different approach. She speaks the truth plainly in ways that can be clearly understood by layman and scholar alike. I would really endorse these books for anyone wanting to lead a Bible study. Each chapter contains a thought provoking reflection question that would help with application and she offers a downloadable study guide besides.
Love Joyce Meyers but I haven’t always loved her books. These bible studies from her are great, practical and straight forward. However I wouldn’t necessarily call them commentaries. Ephesians is my favorite book of the Bible so this isn’t my first study on it and I don’t think it’s my favorite either but I do always love to receive wisdom from Mama Joyce.
In the beginning of the book, it starts by revealing who we are in Christ and how much He truly loves us. It does have a way of making you feel valued and purposeful, making it a very encouraging read.
Meyers did an excellent job of staying true to the text while diving deeper into its meaning. She uses historical facts about the time period Ephesians was written in to help the reader understand some of the more confusing parts of Paul's letter. So many people only read the Bible at surface value and miss all the little jewels hidden deeper within.
Meyers challenges readers to go deeper in their understand of the Bible. Studying it is more than just reading. It's about having an experience with God and coming to know the love He has for people. If we allow ourselves to have a personal experience with His love, then we can show that same loves towards other. But we can't give something we don't have so we have to open our hearts to receive it first.
Chapter 11 is especially interesting. Meyers address some scriptures that have been twisted and misused for decades or longer. If you truly take the weight of each word specifically chosen and the fact that it addresses both parties of any relationship, then read it both dissected then as a whole, you'll see that so much of what these verses say have largely been ignored.
Overall, this book doesn't attempt to change the Bible or push a personal option. Nor does it attempt to replace the Bible. No book could ever replace the Bible. It simply help you study the Bible more effectively and proficiently. So have your Bible open while reading this book, it helps.
This is a lovely and practical way to study a book from the New Testament. Each chapter in the book breaks down Paul's letter to the Ephesians (Christians in the city of Ephusus) and starts with his scripture and continues with Joyce Meyer's commentary, which makes it so easy to understand, and gain so much more insight into his teachings, than if I had read this section in the Bible alone. One of my favorite verses is Chapter 3 Verses 16–21: “May He grant you... to be strengthened... in your inner self... so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through your faith”. These particular verses are found in chapter 6 of Joyce's book, and the chapter is titled “Boldness, Stability and Love” with the subtitle “Rooted Deep in Love”. Joyce describes here the depth of God’s love for us; He gives us love and asks us to love on another; He gives us mercy and asks us to give it to others; He forgives us and asks us to forgive; and He is kind and asks us to be kind. Joyce describes it as receiving and abiding in God's love and letting it flow through us to other people.
Joyce Meyer’s biblical commentary on the book of Ephesians gives background information of Paul’s letter to the Ephesians, insightful commentary on topics within each verse. Some of the topics that Mrs. Meyer addresses are knowing who you are in Christ, spiritual growth and maturity, the Christian journey, living a Christ-like life, amongst other topics that Paul addresses in his letter. This biblical commentary is written to encourage spiritual growth. Mrs. Meyer writes with encouragement and imparts the truth of the Scripture in a way that the reader can understand. There are also questions within each chapter that allows for self-reflection.
Overall, this biblical commentary is a great beginner commentary on the book of Ephesians. This book will introduce you to the books author, the message of the letter to the Ephesians and allow you to apply its message to your life.
Happy Reading!
Note: I have received a copy of this book from Hachette Books in exchange for an honest review. #SponsoredByFaithWords
Joyce Meyer's biblical commentary Ephesians reminds the reader to put into practice our studies. I am looking forward to others books by this author which are available in Spanish.
El comentario bíblico de Joyce Meyer, Efesios, le recuerda al lector que ponga en práctica nuestros estudios. Estoy deseando que otros libros de este autor estén disponibles en español. ~a google translate
I don’t really leave star ratings for nonfiction, but I’ll say this was a really nice, practical, easy-to-understand commentary on the book of Ephesians and I recommend to anyone looking for exactly that!
Truly Loved it and used arrow posted notes for things that really helped me in my faith. Have 3 more to read and then can't wait to read and study her Battlefield of the Mind Bible
This book teaches so much. Get a highlighter and a journal because you will take in a lot of information in this book. Super helpful and a powerful book.
Joyce Meyers writes a commentary about the book of Ephesians that gives not only historical and theological background but also opportunity for personal reflection.
Joyce Meyer's new Bible commentary on Ephesians is as gorgeous as her new commentary on James. These beautiful books are also quite helpful and practical to use.
Meyer starts out telling the reader about the writer of Ephesians, which is Paul, and the timeline in which it was written. I like Meyer's reminder that before we even start studying Ephesians we need to remember Paul's circumstances and the reminder that "no matter how difficult your life may be during certain seasons, remember to do all you can do to bless, help, and encourage others." If we would all remember this, I wonder how much better our world would be right now?
Meyer goes through the book of Ephesians slowly as a commentary should, but she also writes this book so one can easily understand it. I remember looking at some old commentaries years ago and feeling quite lost. Yet, with the Joyce Meyer Biblical Commentary, I think both new believers and those who have been in the faith for a long time would glean something from the study as she presents it in her books.
As a writer, I like the personal reflection space with questions and a journal area to write in the back of each chapter. Although I confess, I think these books are too pretty to write in, so I use a journal alongside my book. However, you choose to use it, it is helpful to have the questions to think about and to help reflect on the book and the commentary. I would recommend these commentaries to anyone interested in studying the Bible more seriously along with all of the regular Joyce Meyer fans.
I received this book from the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review.
Meyer's teaching is deeply rooted in the Word and it is no surprise that she would write Bible commentaries. This book is a good general devotional commentary on Ephesians. It is good for general audiences as it does not go into Greek although there is background material included. Meyer at times comments on one verse while at other times covers up to eleven verses in her writing. She spends some time on topics like the fruit of the Spirit and the armor of God. There is usually a personal reflection question at the end of each section with space for journaling although some sections do not have it.
Meyer's commentary is very encouraging. She emphasizes who we are in Christ, encouraging readers to live into that reality. She reminds us of our right standing with God and the intimate relationship we can have with Him. Reviewing Paul's prayers, she encourages us to pray for deeper spiritual things, not what makes us comfortable or fulfills our carnal desires. She also reminds us to pursue spiritual growth and holy living, not to somehow gain God's approval but because of all He has done for us.
This commentary would be good for new Christians or ones not very familiar with the Bible. Meyer writes about the truth contained in a very understandable way. She does not explore some of the more difficult issues in Ephesians, such as what “He led captivity captive” might mean. Readers will gain encouragement and inspiration from the Word in reading this book.
I received a complimentary egalley of this book from the publisher. My comments are an independent and honest review.
"Ephesians" is a Bible commentary on Ephesians that can be used for personal Bible study or even as a devotional. The author provided an amplified version of the verses, doing one to seven verses at a time and working her way through Ephesians. She talked about each group of verses and brought out insights to improve our understanding. She stayed focused on the verses rather than telling funny stories, but it wasn't highly academic or difficult to follow. It's written at a layman's level and contained short enough sections that it could be used for daily devotional reading. She included questions for personal reflection along with space to write in your answer. I have read several commentaries on Ephesians lately, and this is one of the better ones, in my opinion. Overall, I'd recommend this to anyone wanting to better understand Ephesians.
I received an ebook review copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley.
This is the first book in the Deeper Life Biblical Commentary by Joyce Meyer. I have been reading this is a daily devotional, and I feel that, as always, Joyce has a special way of explaining Bible passages that helps me to understand the Bible in ways that I didn't before. I am grateful to her for undertaking this series.
In this commentary, Joyce begins with background information about the book of Ephesians that really helped me to understand the conditions Paul lived in while writing it. After that Joyce shares the verses from the Amplified Bible and adds her own inspired comments. There is much to absorb, and I found I could not skim rapidly through the book because I did want to fully understand and think about the message she shares.
I am looking forward to reading James from this same series. This is definitely a five star book.
