La Travesía: Una Guía de Auto-Recuperación Después del Abuso Narcisista

Rate this book

Content = A+! All the info was incredibly validating. It’s not a “how to” but more of a “these are the stages to work through,” which will be a wonderful accompaniment to deeper work w a therapist skilled in emotional/psychological abuse. She recommended EMDR, which is horrifically amazing, but missed SE (Somatic Experiencing), so for anyone reading this, that is also a stellar therapy modality.

Writing = C, hence the 4 stars instead of 5. There were quite a few really obvious grammatical errors and she used “reign” instead of “rein,” which is a pet peeve of mine but if you ignore those things, the content is super helpful! I’d just recommend she have someone edit her stuff or find a better editor.

Different Stages

It was good to see the different stages. I was able to confirm where I was and see what was coming.

Me haz guiado tan bonito! Que nunca lo olvidaré

Wow!

We have a pandemic of narcissism right now so the more books on this topic, the better. It's a decent read for people who don't have much information, have been in a lot of denial and probably don't have a counselor/therapist/coach yet. I agreed with the designated three stages Miller set up, and she spelled things out clearly, which is always helpful.

Even though some repetition is necessary to pierce old beliefs I still found the book to be too redundant. I'm a firm believer that stories are a major component in healing, telling them and hearing them but Miller's personal story was poorly written--it was sprinkled throughout the book--leaving more questions instead of epiphanies or understandings that one might identify with. I didn't think that part would be helpful to any clients I might refer the book to. That's a shame. I'll suggest they skip it over.

A must read for those recovering from narcissistic abuse.

I believe this is a must read for those recovering from narcissistic abuse. Everyone’s journey is different & you will likely see that you encountered different stages or different aspects of different stages that are out of the “chronological” order the book puts it in. That’s okay. The point is to see where you’ve been, where you are & where you want to go & I believe this book does just that. The experiences given are definitely relatable & so are the insights provided. You will likely have your own as you read as well.

A definite must read if you know you’ve encountered narcissistic abuse & have an inkling or maybe no idea of what to do or where to go next.

Essential reading for anybody healing and moving forward after narcissist abuse. It’s a roadmap out, shining a light on the path of hope. From being beaten down with lies and manipulation here is the road to declaring that is not my reality! It holds up the truth that there is a way to trust ourselves again and live without fear. Thank you Meredith for this book x

I strongly recommend this book to anyone who has found themselves in dispear after after relationships with manipulative characters. I gave it 5 stars because it was the first book I read on the subject. It has massively educated and helped me - leading me down a path of many more books, educating experiences and eye-openers both internally and externally. Therefore I am very grateful for this book (which took me 2 years to complete) having been a sort of guide in giving me hope when I needed it. It takes guts to admit you've been conned and it takes guts to face toxic fear and shame and resolve it. I did, at times, notice that the stages and thresholds Miller mentions closely correlate with her own experiences and that did sometimes bother me because a book on psychology should be written more factually rather than like a memoire. However, now having completed it, I realize that the sheer fact that she shared her personal story in such a detailed manner is brave and should be applauded because (I believe) many people can relate to the stories much more personally than dry theory. Overall, an amazing first glance into NPD, sociopathy/psychopathy, trauma and it's resolution, PTSD, etc. .. very worth it :)

Wonderful support and companion in the road to recovery. I turned to this book to help me know I was not alone in my experience.

If you are suffering or feeling misunderstood after being abused by a narcissist, this book will help you make sense of your new world and assist you in piecing it back together from a place of empowerment. I am so grateful for the author check out her You Tube Channel and podcast as well. There is hope and life afterward. I am not yet in Stage Three, but I know I want to get there. God bless you Meredith.

I love all of Meredith Millers videos and information she puts out there, so I was happy to find this book. She seems so powerful and centered in all her videos that it was surprising to read about her story and inspiring to see how far she has come. I also liked the material of this book- there is a lot of information on who/what narcs and cluster b’s are, but not the stages of recovery. Super helpful. Thanks for writing this!

This book was absolutely life altering for me. It helped me identify and understand the negative people I was allowing into myself. It teaches how to heal and let go of the past to create new healthy patterns for what you allow in your future. I absolutely recommend this to anyone who feels they have patterns of emotional abuse in their life.

Excellent read! This book helps anyone who has been involved with a narcissist!

This book helps the victims of abuse at the hands of a narcissist through the healing process. It is literally a roadmap to freeing oneself from the long term damage caused! I highly recommend this read for both the victim and the professional therapist working with these victims.

Good long read

I only gave it three stars because she was long winded in the book. Although the information and personal stories were relevant, I’m the type of person who likes to get straight to the point. I liked the book though.

This was gifted to me by a lovely lady during group therapy and it helped immensely during my time of suffering. Despite Miller anecdoting intermittently about her own narcissitic and abusive relationship with an ex-boyfriend and various characters, I was able to apply her lessons needed to cope with an emotionally abusive and narcissistic mother. When things were really tough, certain chapters guided me and I would re-read them as reminders to pick myself up again. A very very useful book to anyone scrambling in the dark, looking for answers and suffering from narcissistic abuse.
