Close Proximity #1

The Elevator

Rate this book
Adrian Hughes is a geek who sucks at social interaction because awkward is his middle name. Even though he’s gay, he’s the opposite of flamboyant (when they were handing out fabulous, he was hiding in another room). Even so, he’s always wanted a boyfriend—who doesn’t want to find love?—but so far, the closest he’s gotten to it is crushing on the hot older guy he only sees on the elevator. So what happens when he’s trapped inside it with Mr. Zillionaire Hottie during a heat wave brownout? He stutters like an idiot, because Mr. Greyson Lee is unexpectedly cool, calm, and collected … right up until he’s not.

When kissing leads to sex, Adrian can’t say no. But is it just a hookup? Or is it the start of something more?

The story is exactly like what I imagine -- sexy encounters in the elevator, added with a touch of May/December romance between a young tech officer with a billionaire 15 years older. BUT, what ruined this for me is the plot involving "bat-sh*t crazy woman as villain".

WHY, AUTHOR, WHY?!?!

I have developed a STRONG DISLIKE for stories that features women as villains, who will try anything to ruin the love life of the gay/bi men. Especially because these stories are actually written by women catering a large women fan-base. So yeah, NO KUDOS for that!

If this wasn't has short as it was, I would have thought it ridiculous. (#Crazy-office-bitch)

But... it was short. So I pulled out all the stops and went with it.

Hmmmm Mr Grayson Lee knows how to use a elevator.

Short. Hot. Entertaining.

In the ‘Romance on the Go’ series things happen quickly with insta-lust the rule rather than the exception, and ‘The Elevator’ certainly fits the mold. Even though geeky software engineer Adrian has been lusting for Greyson, the hot, older man who works on the top floor of his office building for over a year, they have never shared more than a greeting in the elevator. Until, that is, one fateful Friday night when a power outage locks them in close proximity for a few hours and they share… well, let’s just say words are not all they exchange! They are so hot together that it’s a miracle the elevator cables don’t melt.

I always love a little bit of an opposites attract and age gap type of romance. This was short, sexy, and fun. I actually could have done without what I felt like was a case of insta-love for these two (it was too short of a story for me to buy into that) but I enjoyed the premise.

A hot and amusing little tale which made me grin a lot. I just loved Adrian’s geekiness and the way his mouth ran away with him. Greyson was all things hot and mysterious, and I loved the way he came to Adrian's rescue when he needed to.

Great story telling 🙂

I really enjoy stories where the MCs are trapped together and this one is no exception. This has a nice balance of humor and sexiness. Great start to the series and I can't wait for the next one!

The Elevator is the first in the Close Proximity series, which from the looks of this book, is going to be short and steamy reads!

Adrian is a self-proclaimed geek, and works hard for a company that doesn't really appear to deserve him. Greyson is the owner of the building, definitely a millionaire but probably a multi-billionaire, and has his sights set on Adrian.

This is a short story, so expect a fast pace. The whole story takes place from Friday through Monday, so don't expect too much detail. The details you do get though, are brilliant and really help to see all the characters. It is well written, with no editing or grammatical errors that disrupted my reading flow. I would recommend this read as perfect for a coffee break book, so long as you don't mind being hot under the collar!

More in this series? Bring it on!

Adrian and Mr. Greyson Lee seem to have nothing in common, until a brownout left them stuck in an elevator. The forced proximity of the situation makes them realizes they might have been what the other has been needing. But when the power is up again and they are faced with the differences between them, would the time spent together be enough to create strong emotions that would make a new relationship grow?

It was an entertaining read. The plot was a little simple and kind of expected but really enjoyable. It was a little bit too fast-paced, making the relationship between Adrian and Grey feel a little forced and too much like insta-love or more like insta-lust, since the events were developed in a too short time to make me feel there was really love between them. There were some surprises in the plot but I wasn't really too pleased with it, mostly a conflict presented with a co-worker that seem unnecessary.

What I liked the most about it was that was pretty much free of angst, it had a flirty and hot tone and some fun moments too. Overall it was a nice book to read and it can be enjoyed by M/M readers looking for something short without much angst.

Cute. Very insta-love (if that even a thing). And short. I guess this novella just hit me at the right moment that I’m feeling magnanimous about the speed of which the flirting turned into hookup(s) that turned to love. Or the dumb but obnoxious bitchy beeyotch that soiled the fluffy atmosphere in the story. The hookup(s) were fun though. And the protagonist likable enough, though sadly - due to the length - there’s no in-depth expose on both characters (like Greyson’s Asian descent, was it Chinese or Korean or else). But all in all, as an introduction to Erin M. Leaf’s writings, it’s a fun experience!

3.5 stars rounded up to 4. Short and steamy. The story was typical with the MCs meeting, establishing insta-lust, having smex, falling into insta-love, then the HEA. In this case they'd been bumping into each other in the elevator for a year, but finally had the chance to talk because of some unusual circumstances. There was also a little bit of an irritating co-worker/sexual harassment accusation, but of course it all ends well.

Nothing new and perfect for a super quick read.

DNF at 30%. One of the best ways to demolish the effectiviness of an erotica short is to drown the actual plot in extensive, inane, cliche and shallow inner monologue. This was a shining example. By the time things started heating up I've found both characters - well, mostly the narrator - extremely irritating and lost any interest in the kind of frisky schenanigens they might consider.

Enjoyed this hot instant-luv little number. Could have done without the sexual harassment from Adrian's female co-worker. His sloppy direct boss would have been a better choice for that part of the plot.
