Here’s an oldie written about the English Reformation and the times of Tyndale. Henry the Eighth is on the throne in England and Queen Catherine is dead set against the new ways of religion. Peter and his family are caught in this after the death of his father in the plague, impoverished and hungry while the Catholic priests demand more and more money to save their father from Purgatory. The future is bleak—except for a king’s folly which leads him in pursuit of a Godly woman named Anne Boleyn. While she might not change him personally, this explores some of the effects she had on the country in her brief days as Queen.

Though the characterization is not deep, the heart of the story is a golden one, and the faith of each Christian stands out against the dark ignorance of a superstitious populace. I loved the satisfying ending as well.

Emma Leslie continues to be a favorite author!
