A bossy Army vet determined to atone for his mistakes with the only girl he’s ever loved. A sassy boutique owner trying to shield her broken heart.
Roman stole every part of Harper’s heart and soul over a decade ago and left without giving her back the pieces. She’s spent the past decade trying to forget him and everything he made her feel.
When a mysterious figure shows up, changing her life with just a few sentences, she does the unthinkable—calls the man who left her shattered all those years ago.
Roman storms back into Harper’s life with a vengeance, determined to prove he is worthy of a second chance. He vows to keep her safe from the danger that has darkened her door.
But they’re both pawns in someone else’s game. And this vow might just be broken before the game is over…
Emma loves to write, just don't ask her to write about herself. If she isn't writing, you can find her lost in a book or trying to get her doggo to take a selfie with her. He usually refuses. At the end of the day, you can find Emma at the closest Mexican restaurant eating queso and sipping on a margarita. She lives in Texas with her husband and dog.
Awesome story with so much suspense and twists and surprises. Loved how protective Roman was of Harper. Harper was fun and sassy. Love her. This story is about loyalty, family, betrayal and great friendships. Very good storyline. Love this series and can’t wait to read James’ book.
By far my favorite book in the series. Roman was a total sweetheart and I loved him at the beginning when Harper wanted nothing to do with him. Not only that but in this book we were introduced to Kiernan whom i absolutely adore. Love, K
Reviewed on behalf of http://bookaddict.live, What a great story this is, so heartbreaking and beautiful in places, especially when Roman and Harper are together. Harper’s new landlord wants more than she is willing to give. After a call to the love of her life Roman, even though they have been separated for 10 years. Roman arrives in Texas to help find out whats happening. This book had it all, murder, corruption, love and great friendships. Harper is lucky she had a great support system with friends, as her family was murdered. I loved James and her great group of friends. I would love to get inside his head. This is written with dual narration allowing us inside Roman and Harper’s head, as I said before my favourite way to read. I haven’t read Emma Renshaw, that’s going to change as I love plenty of action in a well written story. So I’m looking to read more of the vow series. I must admit I do love the separated lovers that still love each other. As soon as they see each other you can feel it in the air the love and passion that they can’t hide.
This was the second book in the Vow Series I was lucky enough to read and cementing my love for Emma Renshaw making her a go to author for me.
Vow of Atonement was full of suspense but also had its lighter moments. I loved Roman and how he wasn't going to take no from Harper as he pushed his way back into her life.
Harper was sassy, fun and sexy. The perfect heroine, showing she knew how to take care of herself but also knew when to let go and let Roman step in to help (eventually).
The suspense of the book kept me on my toes, wondering who was really the bad guy and why.
This was such a great read and can't wait for more books from Emma in the future.
We'd absolutely fallen in love with Harper in Vow Of Retribution. She's a sassy, smart business woman and the kind of friend anybody would be lucky to have.
The second the teaser "Why are you here? And why are you naked?" came out, we were dying to meet Roman. And just wow. If alpha males are your thing, you are going to love him right away. He's definitely in charge, but he's got a soft side to make you swoon.
VOA kept the pages flying and had so many twists and turns, you'll be guessing until the end.
This was a good read. Harper's ex boyfriend Roman shows up one day. Comes to find out that her life is in danger. The problem is that Roman doesn't really want her to know what's going on. Plus she is still mad at him for leaving her all those years ago. Of course by the end they are together and get their happy ending.
I was lucky enough to be an early reader of this book, and I absolutely loved it! Emma Renshaw has a true gift for creating characters that you see so clearly in your mind and feel like you've been friends with for decades. I find myself wanting her to write books about even her most minor of characters.
I think I described her debut novel as an emotional roller coaster ride. This one is no different, only this time she drags the feelings out of you with a ferocity that every book lover will appreciate. Emma weaves a world where you're not quite sure who you can trust, and the last few chapters will have you gasping for breath.

There is an art to second chance romances - and Emma Renshaw does a brilliant job of articulating this kind of romance with Vow of Atonement!
Harper Maxwell is a business owner and an independent woman who loves being her own boss and enjoying her store being part of a good community. But when the businesses slowly start to fall to the claws of a new owner, Rafael Bazan; she starts to feel hinky about him, especially when he shows romantic interest in her. All she knows is that something is wrong and her instincts scream it so she calls up the only man she knows can help her.
Roman Marx loved Harper from when he could understand what love actually is - and a promise made to her Uncle, who was her rock after her parents died - he comes back the moment he gets her call wanting help. And takes this moment to sneak back into her life, after disappearing from it years ago.
It is not a easy road for Harper and Roman - Harper is reluctant to trust Roman again and Roman, is doing his best to win back her trust all the while solving the mystery of who Rafael is and what exactly does he want with Harper and what exactly is his beef with Rome himself.
I loved the romance between Harper and Roman - there is an instant connection between them; and it was easy to see that despite the distance between them; their feelings for each other were still alive and well. I adored how the author had their relationship progressed; not just realistically but also emotionally; even if the reason why Rome left felt a little juvenile *shrugs*.
But what I was enamored with was the suspense in the story - even though the villain had been made clear in the beginning, yet the author did a brilliant job of making doubts seed in my mind; and even at the end I was still hoping for a redemption :D
This was my first book by Emma Renshaw; and I definitely will be checking out her back - list for more!
Harper Maxwell owns the Boutique store Harper Avenue and lately all of the businesses surrounding her have left when the building was sold to Rafael Bazan. Unknown to Harper initially, Rafael's father was her "Uncle" Santiago and who helped her greatly after her parents and sister were mugged and killed. When Harper is concerned about everything with Rafael she decides to reach out to her ex-boyfriend.
Roman Marx disappeared from Harper's life and broke her heart but now he is back the moment she asks. Roman made a promise to Harper's dad before his death about keeping her safe and he vows to do just that, no matter how much Harper is trying to push him away. Roman was raised by Santiago yet he knows nothing about Rafael and he is concerned for Harper.
As Harper and Roman try and figure out what Rafael is after will they discover the truth before it's too late?
This was a great book with lots of action and mystery!
Harper was a great character who had a past that she was struggling with due to losing everyone she cared about - including Roman. As the book goes on we find out more and more about her and why she held everyone at a distance and I could understand why she was reluctant to let Roman back into her life.
Roman was awesome and I knew there had to be a good reason why he split with Harper in the first place. When everything was revealed I did understand although I did not agree with his decision! I loved how "alpha" he was with Harper the moment he got to her place and he did not want anyone going near her at all!
I wasn't too sure what to expect with Rafael but I knew it wouldn't be good and I was not disappointed! I was so curious to find out what he was after and why he was after Harper! Although I must admit I was completely shocked at the end with the revelation!
I really liked all the secondary characters in the book and this is the first book I have read by this author. There was so much mystery surrounding James and I really liked Kiernan and I want more of both of them!
The mysteries in the book kept me gripped from beginning to end and I loved all the twists and turns! The chemistry between Harper and Roman was through the roof and I loved them!!
Such a great book and I look forward to more from this author!!
Vow of Atonement by Emma Renshaw “Suspense and second chances, 5 stars”
In Vow of Atonement Renshaw takes you on one heck of a journey. You have two people who were meant to be together, but circumstances and misunderstandings tore them apart, then you have the danger surrounding them. Vow of Atonement will suck you in and won’t let you up until the very last page. Harper knew love once and then a series of unfortunate events happened. She picked herself up and started all over. Now though someone is making claims she doesn’t believe, and she must ask the one person she thought she would never talk to let alone see again, Roman. The man who broke her heart. Will she fall in love with him or will her brain protect her heart? Roman has only loved one woman but let her go because he didn’t want to hurt her. When Harper calls he drops everything and runs to her. The girl he loved is now a full-blown woman he plans on winning back no matter the cost. But what about the trouble she somehow found herself in? This stranger knows too much about both of them, so what does that mean? These two were something else. The magnetic pull between them was undeniable and I loved it. I was rooting for Roman from the very first scene. The secondary characters were awesome as well and just pushed this story over the top. Vow of Atonement is one of those stories that you can go back and reread at a later date and love it just as much as you did the first time. Twists and turns around every corner. Vow of Atonement surprised me. This story has a little romance, but it is mostly a big mystery with a lot of action. It was thrilling and kept me enthralled until the very end. This book seems like it might be a part of a series, but I am unsure. If it is, it can be read on its own as that is what I did. The plot of this book was amazing. It has been a while since I read something that really kept me on the edge of my seat. This story is all about uncovering secrets buried decades before. It is also about reconnecting with your first love. I really enjoy the way the plot was written. I don’t want to say much more without giving anything away. Harper is a strong, independent woman. I loved her attitude and spunk. I also loved how she attempted to stay independent even with an alpha male breathing down her neck. I respect that about her. Then you have Roman. Holy heck that man is hot. Ex-military, head of security firm, and he is fiercely protective? Sign me up. I love that he also has his own troubles in his head as well. I loved reading about him. The heat between these two never died. They obviously had something special in high school that did not die with their years a part. It might have been put on ice, but Roman made sure to melt it quick as heck. These two are fiery when they get together. The emotions added in with the attraction they both have causes explosions left and right. The writing style of this book was good. The pace was steady. The story is told from a dual point of view. I really liked how the author used flashbacks at points to give us pieces of their story before the present. I loved all the twists and turns. The mystery was perfect and just what the story needed. Overall, I enjoyed this book. Roman was such an amazing alpha male. I would kill for one just like him. I would recommend this book to others. Especially if they like stories with romance, but also an underlying mystery and action. Great book. Ratings: Plot: 5/5 Characters: 5/5 Heat: 5/5 Writing Style: 5/5 Overall: 5/5
WOW! Vow of Atonement was a fantastic story that had me on the edge of my seat, while messing with my emotions at the same time! Emma Renshaw really upped her game with this story, and I'm completely hooked to her talented writing style. It all starts with Harper getting a visit by a mysterious man, telling her that he bought the building that her boutique was in, so he's her new landlord. As this man started revealing more about himself, it started raising red flags so Harper called Roman, the man who shattered her heart 10 years ago, to help her find out more about this man. Roman comes running, as this is the opening he's been waiting for, to get a second chance at making her his again. To get her to forgive him, but Harper's not on board with that at all, so will Roman get her to give him another chance & keep her safe from the danger stalking her? This story was so insanely intense while the angst was messing with my heart. First of all, the twists were crazy, and they were around every corner all the way until the finale, which by that time, all I could do was drop f-bombs because they were so shocking. Second, the romantic story between Roman & Harper was a frustrating push & pull that had me ready to scream, especially since it took a bit to get the whole picture of what happened in the past. Once that puzzle of the past was revealed, I completely understood Harper's stubbornness, and hurt, so I would have been very hard pressed to forgive Roman as well. I cannot deny their chemistry though, which finally ended up in sexy times that lit the sheets on fire! And that cast of secondaries added some well placed humor that helped give a break from all the heavy emotional moments. This amazing story kept me in one position cover to cover until I finished every last page, and I'm dying for more in this series immediately! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Harper has been through hell and back. At a young age, she lost both her parents, sister, and the one person she could call her uncle. To top it off, the love of her life broke up with her. Even though she had been through so much she still managed to accomplish her dreams and open the boutique of her dreams. The last thing she expected was for an extremely handsome new landlord to not only buy out her building but also start snooping her in past and begin to ruin her life. She had no choice but to reach out to the one person who has the power to destroy whats left of her heart.
Roman has been waiting for the opportunity to get back in Harper's life. He has regretted being away from her from the minute he left her but never left worthy of her love. As an owner of a Security/PI company, the minute he feels like something isn't right about Harper's new building owner, he begins a full investigation and doesn't allow Harper out of his sight.
As their lives become turned upside down and danger is lurking around the corner, Harper and Roman begin the battle between hate and love. Not only do they have their own issues to work through but they also have the fear of not know who they can trust or how much of their past could ruin them.
It has been such a long time since I have read a book which completely captivated me. I could not put this down no matter what was going on around me. Every time I thought I knew what was coming, Emma Renshaw would throw a curve-ball and catch me by complete surprise. It was impossible not to fall in love with all of the characters. I highly suggest you run out and grab this book. You will not regret it!!
One of the best things about this book was that it was so much more than your run of the mill romance. While there were plenty of heat filled, passionate and emotional moments, there were also moments of intense action and drama that kept me reading long past my bedtime. I will admit that I was a little concerned when I read the first chapter or two because I simply didn't like one of the characters, but it turns out that maybe that was meant to be the case. Not to mention, I am so very glad I stuck it out and kept going because Roman and Harper were two of my favorite characters so far this year and every second of that first chapter made sense by the end of the book. They were needed and really helped you grasp who the characters were at heart. Harper is an amazing woman who has survived so much heartbreak in her life already that it is difficult for her to let Roman back into her life in any capacity. However, Roman is persistent, very alpha in nature, and can make a girl melt in seconds so Harper has her work cut out for her from the beginning when she tries to keep her heart safe. While the author did foreshadow some of the events and outcomes, she did so in a beautifully calm and quiet manner that led to surprises sneaking up on you occasionally-making this a page turner until the very end.
The Vow of Atonement by Emma Renshaw is write in amazing way.
I didn't have chance to read any of her books earlier. Of course I saw her name here and there, but till today I really didn't know what kind of author she can be.
I should say thanks to myself right now because this book gave me really good time. I decided to put my hands on Vow of Atonement, because it's second chance romance. This kind of books are one of my favorite themes to read. I just haven't expected that this book is also about all second chances which we can take in our lifes. About starting from nothing when everything fallen down... About starting to trust other people with our hearts and lifes.
With this kind of books there's also danger behind... All the good and book's masterpiece inside, depends on author and her/his writting style. Emma done here very good job here because plot, twisted moments and characters are so perfectly described that I didn't want to put this book down. And what's mosr important? Emma wrote Roman's and Harper story in wonderfull way...
So, yes dear readers.... Vow of Atonement and Emma Renshaw don't need second chances because for sure You fall in love in them from page no 1 ❤
Vow of Atonement by Emma Renshaw is the second book in this series of standalones. Yes, there are a few cross-overs, but you can easily read every book in every order. The previous book, Vow of Retribution is Savannah and Liam´s story and I absolutely loved it.
Vow of Atonement is Roman and Harper´s book. Roman and Harper where a couple, but Roman in typical I know it all better - broke her heart when he broke up with her. Now she´s build a new life. But a mysterious stranger brings her to contact Roman. There´s still such a magnetic pull between the hero and the heroine, you can feel their connection in every word.
Vow of Atonement has everything I love in a good story, a villain, drama and danger, a alpha hero who sweeps in and saves the day. I greatly enjoyed reading Harper and Roman´s story and give 4,5 stars.
When a mysterious stranger enters her life Harper is left questioning what is the truth and why he is there. With no one else to turn to she contacts Rafael, the man that broke her heart ten years ago.
Rafael is ex-military and now works for a security firm. When Harper contacts him there is no way that he isn’t going to protect the only woman he has ever loved.
This story leads us on an adventure filled with suspense and twists that you don’t see coming as they try to figure out what is happening and why before the consequences turn deadly.
I loved Harper and Rafael together. There is no denying that the chemistry and love they felt for each other had never died but not only do they need to find out what is going in the present they also need to work through the past before they can consider a future together. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
Wow! This series just gets better and better. I love a good second chance romance. I feel heartbroken for Roman and Harper though. You should never feel like you're not good enough for someone. I understand why he did what he did thinking he didn't want to hurt her when they were young but what a waste of time that could have been spent loving one another. All of the suspense in this one kept me on edge. I didn't want to put it down.
I laughed so hard when she just came right out and announced that she was pregnant. I feel her at this moment, I can never keep a secret.
"My heart started beating for him the first time he kissed me. My soul bound to his irrevocably the first time we made love. No other man could ever truly have me. They didn't lose before the game started, they were never even in the game."
"My name didn't come from much, but I take pride in the name it's become."

I was blown away by how great this book was!! This book is the second book in this series, but the first book I've read by this author. I will definitely read more by her!! From the very start of this book, I was sucked into the suspense and drama of the characters. Harper has had a traumatic past, but has secured herself in her new life with her own store and great friends. When someone shows up and turns her life upside down, she calls the one person she has been trying to forget. Roman vows to help her, and their chemistry is scorching hot, but complicated. Can she trust him? This book will keep you on the edge of your seat!! I couldn't put it down!!
Seriously hot second chance romance and edge of your seat suspense come together in this addictive read! Vow of Atonement was completely unputdownable for me. The mystery starts right from the beginning and keeps building with twists and turns that kept me glued to the pages while Roman and Harper’s electric chemistry and deep rooted love had me swooning. Every part of their story was fantastic from beginning to end, never slowing down for even a moment! It’s obvious from the start both Harper and Roman never stopped loving each other. The love they have flies off the pages and wraps around your heart giving you all the warm and fuzzies. Even when Roman is fighting his way back into Harper’s life that love isn’t dimmed. While these two work through the past to come back together secrets from then are also coming to light creating a level of suspense that has you biting your nails and flying through the pages desperate to unravel the truth. I throughly enjoyed every bit of this book, from the beautiful romance to the moments that had me gasping in shock.
Well well well Roman and harpers story is a must read a love story started young but destroyed when Roman left Harper to go into the service to protect her and allow her to fulfill her dreams. But 10 yrs later Harper called Roman needing his advice on a person named Rafael. She wants nothing to do with Roman romantically. No phone call Roman showed up and Harper woke to him in her bed. Story goes her parents are dead Santiago her almost like father dead . Cartel involved money and hatred evils possession it’s all there great story must read the next one. Can’t wait 😊
I loved this one so much. Roman is a sexy alpha hero who comes back into Harpers life after 10 years of being away. Harper is a sweet and sassy boutique owner who has to rely on the help of her ex while trying to fight her attraction to him still. There’s quite a bit of twists and turns that keeps you intrigued the whole time and plenty of hot steamy moments that you’ll love.
WHAT WAS THAT ENDING?!! Never in a million years did I see that coming!
Vow of Atonement was the first book I’ve read by Emma Renshaw and I really enjoyed it. This book isn’t the first book in the series, which I didn’t realise until after I started reading but it didn’t effect the storyline of this book that much. There is obviously another story that was told about Liam and Savannah which I’ll need to read up on because it sounds like one hell of a story.
Vow of Atonement is the story of Roman and Harper. It’s a second chance romance where these two gorgeous characters reunite after a decade of being apart. They were originally high school sweethearts until Roman decided that he wasn’t good enough for Harper.
Ten years later and the feelings that they have for each other are still just as strong. Roman’s character had me cracking up for most of the book. He’s witty and has an awesome sense of humour.
Harper is a very headstrong woman who runs her own business. She’s afraid that if she lets Roman into her heart again that he’ll just leave and break her all over again. But love always persists.
The plot twists in this book made my jaw drop nearly to the floor. Unbelievably good story line!
Vow of Atonement is an excellent follow up to Emma Renshaw's previous book, Vow of Retribution (also an awesome read!) The book blurb gives a 100% accurate idea of what the story is about. I love the characters and many familiar faces appear in this electrifying, well-crafted, romantic suspense mystery story. I can't say enough good things about this book or the great writing. The chemistry between Harper and Roman is crazy hot and the great twisty turny plot surprised me more than once. I couldn't put this book down. It's a fantastic read and I loved it! I can't wait for James's story.
I am voluntarily reviewing an advance reader copy of this book.
Hot and spicy with a dash of sweet! Roman is the alpha male in every girl’s dreams and Harper is the strong woman that we can all relate to. Add in a good mystery, some drama that will make you really feel, and some twists that you don't see coming, and you have yourself a recipe for an excellent night on the sofa! This is the second book in the series and it will leave you wanting so much more!! Treat yourself to this book.
There are many twists and turns in their story that keep you guessing and on your toes. I couldn’t get enough of these two. Harper and Roman are two of a kind. He will do whatever it takes to keep her safe and make her happy. So damn good y’all!
this book was the second in this series and it was really good! he left her years ago to make a better life. she is on her own until a stranger comes to town. now she calls the one person who broke her heart. these two are being used as a pawn . you have to read to find out why.
This is the story on Roman and Harper. They haven’t seen each other for ten years but Roman has been keeping checks on her. Then Harper gets a visit from Rafael who says he is her new landlord and also Santiago’s son. Santiago was like a second father to her after her family was all killed. She phones Roman to see if he knew if Santiago had a son and leaves a message but instead of phoning her he goes to see her. So there story starts again there is intrigue, murder and finding out the truth. I was given this for an honest review which I have given I enjoyed this book that much I stayed up to finish it until after 2-30 am
Vow of Atonement is the second installment of the Vow series and it just captivated me with its suspenseful nature. Harper and Roman had fallen in love during their teenage years but Roman ultimately decided that Harper could have a better life without him so he ends the relationship. But, 10 years later Harper needs to seek him out. And Roman slowly eases his way into Harpers life again, almost as if he belongs there. Emma Renshaw has written an excellent book, and I can’t wait to read more from her!
