By being historian and diplomat, the author knows quite well how to write a breathtaking historical mystery novel.

Even if this the tenth book of the series on Nicolas le Floch detective, I managed to follow the plot without knowing the previous episodes of this series.

 

There is an interesting link based on this series where the reader can follow all places mentioned in each book: Les trajets de Nicolas dans L"enquete russe.

Je n’ai pas lu les autres romans de la série.
J’ai beaucoup aimé le style et la représentation des personnages. En revanche l’intrigue ne m’a pas emballée. Elle ne m’a pas tenu en haleine.
J’ai envie de lire un autre titre des enquêtes de Nicolas Le Floch pour voir. Si quelqu’un souhaite m’en recommander un… ;-)

J'aurais parfois aimé que l'intrigue avance un peu plus vite, mais c'était comme toujours charmant et passionnant. J'adore le temps pris pour montrer les relations entre Nicolas et son entourage (Sartine!) Et encore une fois, certaines descriptions donnent faim.

Et si je suis parfois critique des versions audio, celle-ci était vraiment bien faite.

OK I read the book, didn't get the audio version but this is the only version I found on Goodreads.
Another fun and entertaining Nicolas story. Like in some other books of the series, I got lost a little as the story doesn't move very fast but it was still very enjoyable.

Bien que ce ne soit pas mon type de prédilection, le roman est bien mené et prenant ; cependant le style peut être un peu ardu à suivre, et la fin paraît trop expéditive par rapport à la complexité de l'intrigue.

Enjoyable reading, but the story was somewhat complicated and ultimately the motives for some of the killings were unconvincing, at least to me.
