Negative Space, in art, is that part of the image that is not the topic, per se, of the picture. This concept has evolved from prehistoric art (positive space plus blank background) through abstract art (no recognizable features). Photography and Contemporary Figurative Art have raised ontological issues, that are introduced and confronted, initially, in this volume.
