After a bad breakup, Sadie is putting her life back together. With a new place to live, a new job, and a new friend, the only thing missing is a new man.
Enter her boy-crazy, jersey chasing, football-obsessed coworker, Kelly, who drags Sadie along to a football party at a posh nightclub. Kelly hopes Sadie will find a guy to hook up with; Sadie just hopes to make it through the night. Much to both of their surprise, Sadie ends up hitting it off with the wickedly funny, smart, and sexy Martin… who just happens to be the player Kelly was hoping to sack that night.
Kelly might like to play the game, but she isn’t keen on competition. Unable to accept that Sadie and Martin are hitting it off, as the relationship between the two of them blooms, Kelly starts acting strangely, and her crazy quotient continues to rise.
Kelly tries her best to foul things up for Sadie and Martin, but all of her meddling is getting her opposite results. Her interference seems to be fast-tracking their relationship and expediting their happily ever after, and it might even end up getting Kelly, a committed jersey chaser, blackballed from all things football.

I loved the first of Ashlyn Hope’s Jersey Chasers novels, The Trade, which was somewhat unique for me in that it focused on Tyra, a football groupie (aka, Jersey Chaser), in a very favorable way. One of the side characters in that story was Kelly. In The Trade Kelly was shown in a favorable light, a groupie for sure (but her drive for one night stands is not morally worse than that if the young football players she hooks up with), but also seemingly a decent person and loyal friend. In Defensive Maneuvers: Jersey Chasers #2, Kelly returns but she soon metamorphoses into something quite different: an obsessed woman who lets her fantasies impact her reasoning. Kelly, however, is not the star here but rather has the (more traditional for groupies) spot asan important supporting character. The focus here is Sadie and her relationship with Martin. This is a much more traditional sports romance in many ways, the exception bring with Martin who is not the traditional football player (and not just because he’s a Vegan). Nevertheless this is a very well done s d tremendously enjoyable tale that I just know I will be reading again (something I only do with books when tney are really fun). But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises - the book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series. I’m hoping that it will be one that rehabilitates poor Kelly, but based in its two predecessors I’m sure I will love it no matter who it’s about.
Loved this book and this series, can't wait to read more. Kelly was a nasty girl who she n she didn't get what she wanted she made trouble. Told lies and true d to hurt people. I was glad Sadie and Martin were above her and didn't let her come between them.
I enjoyed "Defensive Maneuvers" by Ashlyn Hope. I received a complementary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I thought I was really going to like this second book in the series. The secondary character in this book was introduced in the first and was portrayed in such a different light. The way that character is portrayed in this book was so vastly different - it really turned me off to the overall premise of the story. It was hard to cheer for these characters... it made me feel like I was cheering and supporting the "mean girls". Thankfully, the main characters were so cute and I loved the way they rose to the occasion.
Loved the first, so of course, have to read the next one. Sadie goes out with Kelly, who we met in the first book. Sadie then meets Martin, where they have an instant connection and really enjoy each others company. Kelly, who wanted Martin, decided to trash Sadie at work, social media and stalk Martin. Can Sadie and Martin get past all that Kelly is trying to do? Love how this story flows and the characters are written. Loved this even more than the first one. Definitely recommend.
DNF. So many things wrong with this one, I couldn’t bring myself to finish. I abandoned ship about 3/4 of the way in. I probably could’ve pushed through to find out the ending, cause again I wanted to like this one too. . But I just couldn’t bring myself to do it. Sorry.
