Well, I finally picked this book up and finished it after postponing reading it for so long. Honestly, since I didn't get much of an impression of my previous read by this author, ‘Her Unexpected Hero’, I was somewhat hesitant to start reading this one. But as you know, I'm a sucker for revenge romance stories so I decided to give this book a go and find out if it would be a hit or a miss for me. Good thing I did, it turned out to be surprisingly pleasant. The story was good—predictable, but good! Yet somehow, I was a bit disappointed that there was not enough heartbreaking drama here. But despite that, the book still had me thoroughly engrossed from the beginning to the end, and I had a hard time putting it down.
Derek Titan and Jasmine Freeman were high school sweethearts. Derek was just a poor boy from a poor family while Jasmine had grown up the richest kid in town. Anyway, they were deeply in love, so they planned on moving to the city and getting married, and both of them agreed to run away together. But something terrible happened before they met at their appointed place. They both apparently misunderstood each other. Derek left town without a word and swore that he would get revenge on Jasmine and her father one day. Jasmine felt betrayed and hurt that he had never truly loved her. He took her virginity and then dumped her as if their time together had been meaningless.
A month later, she found out she was pregnant, but it was too late. She didn’t know where he was or how to contact him, so she raised her child alone and intended to keep it that way.
Meanwhile, Derek had successfully built his fortune. Ten years later, he had gone from zero to billionaire. And finally, it came time for him to come back and make Jasmine and her father pay for what they did. But once he met her again, they both knew immediately that the sparks between them were still there. The more time they spent together, the harder it was to fight their desire toward each other. And what would happen next when Derek discovered a son he never knew existed?
I did enjoy this book and it kept me hooked reading for hours. Both Derek and Jasmine are adorable; they are so perfect together. Moreover, I was pretty satisfied with the ending and the epilogue was very lovely.
“You’re the purest person I’ve ever known, and I promise you I’ll spend the rest of my life proving how special you are to me.”
By the way, this was another one of my good reads. It was sweet, fun, and emotional. I’m glad I decided to give this one a try!
Here's the thing... This book had the potential to be something pretty good. I liked the premise, I even liked the beginning, but from there it went a little downhill.
Jasmine was the rich, naive girl with a wealthy but cold father, and Derek was the poor boy from the wrong side of the tracks. They fell in love–much to her father's dismay–and decide to run away together and get married.
Ten years later, Jasmine is a single mom of a nine year old boy, just trying to get by after being cut off by her father and raising her son alone. Conversely, Derek is now a billionaire of Titan Industries, and he's dead-set on revenge. Both Derek and Jasmine have been hurt by what happened ten years ago, and both believe the other left them. When Derek buys Jasmine's father's business out from under him, Derek and Jasmine finally come face to face after all these years. Both are hurt. Both are angry. And neither of them knows the full story.
This story could have been really good. But it wasn't executed right.
Let's start with the "secret". This book is written from the POV of both Jasmine and Derek, so we know from the start that the whole thing is some big misunderstanding. And once we hear Jasmine's side of the story from that fateful day, we pretty much know what happened. This happens pretty early on, and so all of the tension of the mystery of what happened is gone. All we have left is two people who refuse to listen to each other about why they're each hurt.
Which brings us to our main problem: Derek. Because in fact, Jasmine was willing to listen to Derek's side of the story. He would say things that alluded to that day and she would be confused. When she asked him about it–like an actual human being in a relationship–he would dismiss her, her feelings and her side of the story as "revisionist history". The entire book I just felt bad for Jasmine, because no matter what way you look at it, she got the shit end of the deal. She had her heart broken, she ended up pregnant, her dad then cut her off both with money and with shelter apparently, and she had to make it on her own through college and working all with a baby. Meanwhile, Derek got megarich somehow (we're never given that information) and that's about it. He doesn't have any life problems. He's just pissed about something that happened 10 years ago. And when he gets pissed, he gets mean.
When Derek finds out that he has a son, he gets even meaner. He blames Jasmine for not telling him he had a kid, when from her perspective, he told her he never wanted to talk to her again, left her, and then she had no idea how to get in touch with him until the kid was born and already had several years on him. Yes, Derek thinks that Jasmine dumped him and screwed over his dad, but in what world does it make it her fault that you fucked off to god-knows-where? His treatment of the whole thing was completely obnoxious–from him just telling the kid that he was his father without consulting Jasmine or even any discussion about the fact that the kid existed, to him forcing Jasmine to marry him and then throwing her dreams in her face when he forces her to have the dream wedding she wanted when she was a kid, but with none of the love or romance. That was completely rude and hateful. He made a farce of her dreams, and his only purpose in doing it was to hurt her. He was emotionally abusive, he made no attempt to have an actual relationship with her, and then blamed her for being difficult and "living in the past". He was such an enormous dick.
Unfortunately, instead of having a strong female character who took NONE of his shit, we had Jasmine the Doormat. She let him walk all over her and her life, belittle her at every turn, and take over her relationships and her parenting of her son. And she continuously just accepted the blame he put on her that was completely undeserved. She had no backbone whatsoever, especially when it came to sex. He would just kiss her like it was his right, and she would immediately forget why she was mad at him. That's not romantic. That's manipulation.
Then finally, we get to the end. The misunderstandings are revealed after Jasmine's finally had enough of all the crap Derek throws at her to hurt her. They realize that neither of them left each other and it was all because of her evil father.
And then it's fine. None of the awful, malicious things Derek did to Jasmine matters because we know now. And it's TOTALLY understandable that he hurt her and treated her like crap, and now that I know, I completely forgive you!
No. He was an abusive dick. If you are going to continue with this relationship, you need to take a step back and examine what all went down and figure out if you really want to put up with that for the rest of your life. Especially since I'm pretty sure if you decided to leave him and take your son with you, he would fulfill his promise of making sure he got full custody and left you with nothing. So, no, thank you.
If the author had done 80% of the book differently it could have been good.
The Tycoon's Revenge is about DEREK & JASMINE. They're high school sweethearts and want to get married. Because of a big misunderstanding they both walk away from each other broken hearted.
10 years later DEREK is determined to get revenge on the one person he ever loved and who broke his heart. But his revenge plans are being shattered when he discovers that he and JASMINE have a 9 year old son together.
This is for sure a very predictable story and really cheesy at times. But that didn't bother me at all. I started this freebie without any expectations and never would have imagined that I would enjoy it that much. A total win for me...
No originality, no comparison to reality, juvenile in writing, reads like an inexperienced writer. Painful to read as everything is overly dramatic and the characters boringly predictable. I never stop reading a book but was unable to make it past the first 3 chapters.
Poor boy meets rich girl and they fall in love. Lack of communication and an evil relative tear them apart. So poor boy becomes uber alpha rich male and plans on revenge. Meanwhile, girl has secret baby and ten years later...
Just didn't really work for me. It was okay but nothing exciting happens.
Free on Amazon today 05/10/12 Ok so it goes a little something like this.......... ....................................................
Poor boy meets rich girl. Fall instantly in love. She looses her virginity to him. He proposes. Plan to run away together. Supposed to meet the following day
--Miscommunication here-- They don't run away together...
10 years later
He is a GAZILLIONAIRE hellbent on bringing down her Father and her. She is not the rich girl anyway
His plan to have his way with her and then leave her... Fails... She was pregnant with his child when he left and never told him.
--More miscommunication here--
He insists they get married for their son. And get divorced when he is 18. Introduction of his cousins so they can have books. A heaps of sex more miscommunication
One of the best second chance and secret baby romances ! I loved the H. He was a self made billionaire and had truly loved the heroine when they were teenagers but then her evil snobbish father destroyed their romance. The heroine was a lovely, kind and selfless woman who had sacrificed a lot to be a single mother to her son. There was a crazy wannabe OW who went out of her way to create havoc. It was such a pathetic move on her part because the H had never even wanted her stupid, pushy ass. She was one of the most delusional and bold OW I have come across in romance novels. The MC's had so much working against them but were able to work through everything. I just wished the heroine's evil dad had made an appearance in the story, but the author kept him in the background.
More plausible than most Big Misunderstanding/torn asunder romances/with a secret baby and a touch of revenge stories. An evil-doer lied to both teenagers and ten years later, the H is a billionaire and she’s a single mom with a secret son.
Bent on revenge the H gets her father’s company and the fun begins. The heroine succumbs to the treacherous body syndrome, but makes the hero suffer for it which made me laugh. The plot moppet is thrilled his dad is on the scene especially when it means a ride in a Porsche to his wrestling match (the kid’s match not the dad’s) and a move to a new house with a paintball court. He’s actually a good kid when on page. HEA.
I'm giving it 3 stars because I got it for free from Amazon.
Story-wise though, it was way, way, way too cheesy for me. Again, the BIG MISUNDERSTANDING played a very big part in the development of the story. I found myself yawning half-way through and then laughing because the heroine supposedly hated the hero but one touch from him and she's in a pile of sexual goo. LOL!
I didn't enjoy this one at all. This story had zero originality. The characters has zero chemistry. Jasmine fell in bed WAY too easily again with Derek, and the sex was meh. To me, Derek wasn't pissed enough that he'd been denied the existence of his child's life for NINE years, and Jasmine was snippity and annoying. So disappointed in this story.
The hero and heroine were high school sweethearts. Because of a misunderstanding, they broke apart. They meet again After 10 years. The heroine is now a single mother and the hero is a very successful businessman.
A very usual story, but surprisingly, we got a strong heroine with a not so surprising jerk hero. The ending with the Cinderella type wedding was kinda boring, but the epilogue was sweet. Overall, it was an ok read.
Could not put this book down. I read Book 1 and 2 in the same day.
Jasmine Freeman grew up in a wealthy family and had no clue how truly wicked her father was and still is. She believes Derek Titan, the absolute love of her life, left her ten years ago when they were to meet and run away together because he stopped loving her and changed his mind. He left her with a shattered heart that never mended and a very special gift, a gift she did not tell him about because she didn't know how to find and contact him.
Derek, who grew up dirt poor and lived on the wrong side of the tracks, loved Jasmine with everything in him and his heart was broken in two when she sent word, by her wicked father, that she didn't want to leave with him and get married. The pain of her rejection nearly destroyed him. He then left town to make his fortune. He had one thing on his mind the ten years they have been apart...REVENGE...upon her father and her. He put the wheels in motion and is in for a surprise, actually several. Is she really what her thinks she is?
The Tycoon’s Revenge was the first book in the Baby for the Billionaire series by Melody Anne.
It was a second chance for Derek Titan and Jasmine Freeman. They were high school sweethearts with Jasmine as the richest family in town and Derek’s as the poorest. They had planned to marry and leave town but as expected, something happened and they each were heart broken and blamed the other.
Fast forward ten years and they met again. I enjoyed the premise of the story and I’m a huge sucker for second chance themes so it worked for me. Although, it was frustrating in that they didn’t communicate. In reality, I think they would have talked it out, then either cut bait or moved forward.
All in all, it was a pretty predictable story but it was fast paced and perfect for those loving little conflict and second chances. It also set the stage for the Titan cousins, Drew and Ryan. Drew is up next in The Tycoon’s Vacation.
The book held such promise but ended up being painful to read. The h was noting but a doormat. Everything was cookie cutter, unrealistic, and childish. The H was a vindictive sob.
3.5 Stars Cover & Title - 4 out of 5. Favorite Character - Joshua
I am not a fan of second chance romances but i managed to really get into this book. I think the main reason for this was the chemistry between the leads. I have read many books with a similar plot (but not the exact same story-line) and i would say this is top 5 of out of the maybe 50 similar books which i have read. I liked both of the leads & i liked how everything sparked between them. I thought the sex scenes were HOT, the first one in the office... jesus.. yum.
I would recommend this book & I plan on reading more by this author.
There is nothing I hate more in a book than when stubbornness and miscommunication make up the entirety of the plot line. How can you spend months with someone and not find out the truth? How can you love someone so completely and not give them the opportunity to explain themselves or even the benefit of the doubt? I love a good secret baby story but this was just so ridiculous. Derek was an a$$hole. jasmine was a weakling of a female lead whose convictions held up only as long as his mouth or hands weren't anywhere near her. The minute his magical cock got into her she folded and lost all backbone. Pretty sickening. All I know is that if my boyfriend left me waiting for him, showed up 10 years later hell bent on revenge, and accusing me of shit I didn't do, I'd set his ass straight in 5 seconds flat.

I loved this book so much even though at points it saddened me. Derek and Jasmine were just teens when they fell heads over heals in love and planed to run away and get married but her selfish father got in the way. Ten years Derek finally gets his revenge by buying out Jasmine's fathers company in which she was employed. Sparks fly almost immediately between these two but the pasts holds them back. When Derek learns he has a nine year old son, he is furious at Jasmine for keeping him from his father. Derek proposes marriage to get his son in his life but says he wants nothing to do with her. The passion that consumed them as teenagers is sparked throughout the book. Derek arranges the wedding for the place they were to meet to run away together years ago Jasmine is all but broken. When Derek and Jasmine finally clear the air about that fateful day, they learn the truth about her fathers involvement it the weight that has been pulled them apart is lifted. They realize that the love they had for each other wasn't going to be denied any more. They marry for love rather than duty. They are able to live happily ever after growing their family.

This was pretty good. In fact I love stories where the characters have a past together. Derek was bent on revenge and it started out pretty good but by 70% I just completely hated him. I get the whole misunderstandings and all but his personality got on my nerves. I thought he was a complete and utter jerk with no remorse until the the the very end. The storyline was nice and Jasmine and Jacob were great, even the cousin were great. Just didn't care for Derek.
Awesome start to this series..Could not put it down..This book will make you laugh.. and make you cry.. Again Melody Anne has written a wonderful book.. and of course all the characters are so realistic.. you too will fall in love with them... I would recommend this book if you are looking for a really fantastic great love story..
Were I a 15 yo rookie in the romance department, I'd have probably enjoyed it more. But I'm not. And I didn't.
Because, again, using miscommunication, or as in case of this book, a complete lack of communication until the very last chapter, as a plot device is NEVER EVER a good idea.
My disappointment with this book is probably caused by a completely different idea of what this story would be about that I got after reading the synopsis. I assumed they would reconnect, explain the confusion that drove them apart, and try to rebuild their relationship. Slowly, step by step.
However, what we got here was completely opposite. They jumped into bed right away, never once mentioned the past or at least tried to explain what happened. He discovered she hid his son from him (which was a crappy thing btw), then blackmailed her into marrying him and they never talked about this elephant in the room for around 250 pages, until I hit the final chapter. And sorry, but that was not only frustrating as hell. It was just plain stupid. Because they had a chance to do it in almost every chapter and yet they always chose not to.
All in all, that was a miss. I like Melody Anne, her books are usually sth I read whenever I want to relax after a shitty day. I never start a book to get annoyed and frustrated as it was in this case. But maybe I could overcome the misunderstandings if this book had sth nice and fresh in it. Again, it didn't. It was pretty generic with some pretty unsettling vision of a Cinderella wedding that our heroine had in mind, with carriages and some other nonsense.
Perhaps other books in this series are better, and maybe I'll give them a try later on. But this one? Sorry but that ain't my jam. Hence the rating.
why did i read this you ask? maybe because it was 1AM and my self-loathing reached max level or maybe i genuinely thought it would be a decent book (i did not)
This was so so bad. From the plot that was all over the place to the characters that were ass to the grammatical AND spelling mistakes like good God everyone could've become an author in 2011 it's amazing
Jasmine Feeman age 17 is in love with Derek Titan. She gives her virginity to him. They plan to elope. But Jasmine makes a fatal mistake she tells her father goodbye and why she is leaving.
10 years later Derek Titan is now a Multi Billionaire and has taken over David Freeman's company. This is his revenge. David Freeman destroyed his fathers business plans. Derek thinks Jasmine was in on it.
Derek fins out that Jasmine has had his son and never told him. I loved the interaction between Derek and his 9 years old son Jacob. They took to each other like a fish to water. Derek is very angry with Jasmine. He refuses to share custody of Jacob. They will marry and become a family for Jacob or he will go to court and take Jacob away.
These two can't keep there hands off each other. They are still deeply in love with each and eventually they find out that neither of them left the other. It was David Feeman, Jasmines father who orchestrated there seperation.
This was a very good entertaining fast moving story. The only complaint I have is 10 years is to long for a parent to be seperated from there child. Not even know they had a child. Jacob is already past 9 years of age. There is just to much of his life that Derek missed out on.
The hero and heroine knew each other when they were teenagers. They were planning to run away together when without both of them knowing it, the heroines father put a stop to it. Many years have passed and they both blame each other. The hero wants revenge, in order to get it he does a hostile takeover of the heroines fathers company. The heroine is upset that she may be fired because she has a son to support, the hero's son from when they were teenagers and she gave him her virginity. When the hero finds out about her child and sees him, he knows he is the father. He also knows he will stop at nothing to have her forever. When they both find out the heroines father was behind them not being together, the revenge dies and it becomes something more.
Pretty decent story. I don't know why these books aren't listen in a series because they all connect but they work as stand alones as well. I loved the heroines character. It's about time we had a super strong woman who lived by her morals. I really appreciated this book for that.
I loved this story. It was one of the best love story’s I have read in a while! I know my review cannot do this book any justice. This is a book that you just have to read. It left me with a smile. It is defiantly a feel good book! I've read this book 3 times, and enjoy it each time I read it!
Jasmine and Derek were high school sweet hearts. They had agreed to meet at a church and run away together to start their new life. Something happened, and caused them to go separate ways for 10 years.
Derek had grown up poor and hated the way Jasmine’s dad talked down to him. He is now a very wealthy businessman, which buys companies. His greatest success was the day he bought Jasmine’s dad’s company out from under him. Derek had no idea Jasmine worked there. They were shocked to see one another again after all those years. The passion, still burned hot between them.
What started out as Derek wanting revenge turned into Derek finding out he had a son, and that he still loved Jasmine.
"The Tycoons Revenge" is the story of Derek and Jasmine, and is an old M&B type of second chance romance. Involves two lovebirds separated by a vengeful father, revenge plot, a secret baby, crazy exes, jealousy and people giving in to their passions. What I did not like - As usual when the heroine is just overwhelmed by desire for the hero and becomes puddle of goo - When om becomes just a plot for hero to be jealous of, whiles he's obviously been sleeping around during separation Overall, it was an average one. Unsafe 2.5/5
