Colt Rawlins did not like being inconvenienced. That string of dried buffalo hide, Harley Trimble had written him, saying he needed his help and because of that, he'd landed in Kaskaskia, Montana, 500 miles north of nowhere. Then he met that saddlebag full of trouble...Carlie Anne Russell. She didn't have the brains God gave her and attracted trouble like a magnet. On top of all that, one didn't dare eat her cooking…it’d kill ya. Carlie Anne had a wagon load of lemons dumped on her and didn't have enough sugar to make lemonade. Struggling to stay on top of running her ranch after the fever took her folks, Carlie Anne did the best she could. Tom Riley was making it mighty difficult for her to hang onto her land. Then that long, lean cowpoke showed up, bossing her around like she had grass growing between her ears. And what happens next? Well…that’s up for grabs….— Praise for Juliette Douglas’ “Douglas brings a warmth to western writing that is uncommon. Too often, male characters dominate tales of the Wild West. I'm glad Douglas has chosen to bring strong female characters to the forefront."“This author is one I will be reading again, great job Ms. Douglas.”“One of the best writers out there!”
Juliette Douglas is Kentucky's Wild West Tale-Spinner. Her fast-paced hard hitting stories about strong, bold and brassy women in the old west are a winning combination for her readers. Men, women and teens alike enjoy traveling back in time eating dust, shivering in the cold, sitting around a campfire sipping coffee telling tales or riding the trail with her characters. She paints a vivid palette of landscape, hard times, true friends, quirky characters and happy endings.
Women depicted in western movies and novels in its heyday usually had the females cast as secondary characters. Ms. Douglas decided to change that, and so she has with her popular Freckled Venom Series, Perfume Powder & Lead: Holy Sisters and several new novels, Mistletoe & Horseshoes, Miss Birgit’s Dilemma and The Littlest Cowboy.
nd the stars are shining brightly for Miss Douglas with Pocketful of Stars! If you are familiar with her previous work, you'll find that Carlie Anne fits the mold of strong, female characters. Carlie Anne, a young woman desperate to save her family ranch, is self-reliant and stubborn. She's hard-headed when a stranger shows up offering his help. But her heart is soft when she thinks of her childhood friend she'd thought lost forever. Fiercely independent and stubborn as a mule Carlie Anne doesn't back off for anyone, putting herself in harm's way. If you're up for a wild ride, get your copy today.
Carlie Ann a feisty little woman who needs help running her family ranch. To dang stubborn to ask for it Colt comes to her aid. She don't want him to give her anything and he don't need her kind of trouble. One of the best historical western action romances written this year. Finely written and executed. Five stars for originality and humorous scenes. Love anything written by Juliette Douglas. "Keep 'em comin lady. "
I absolutely loved this book! It caught my attention from the beginning and I could not put it down! Carlie has had a rough time of it lately. She is only 18 and trying to run the family ranch on her own now that she is the only one left to. She has no one to turn to and had a neighbor trying to get her to sell out to him by any means necessary. She is in deep and needs some help but doesn't trust anyone but Harley.
Colt is headed to help a friend in need. He is not sure what is going on but was taught to make his word count and that is what he plans on doing. Only thing is he may regret it. Helping his friend may bring more trouble than he bargained for. He may just have to buckle down and hold on for the ride.
I loved this book and hope to see more of Carlie in future books!
Juliette has done it again. On the edge of my chair till the end. Love being able to feel the words come to life. 18 year old Carlie has had nothing but lemons handed to her and no sugar to make lemonade. Stubborn more so then a mule, Carlie is determined to run the family farm alone. With one problem after another from Tom Riley , Carlie is still holding on by a thread. Meeting Colt has Carlie more determined then ever to run her farm with no help from a saddle bum. Close to losing it all she realizes that Colt is just what she needs.
Juliette, thank you for a really awesome read. This book has made me sad and has made me laugh. I really enjoyed the humor of Carlie she does get herself in some tight binds. Love the ending so glad she and Colt married. I sure hope there will be more books on this couple. Look forward to the next book. Again thank you for a awesome read.
This was very well written. Very authentic languages and slang used throughout. A western adventure to behold. One of the newer breed of western writers to bring us fresh stories of days gone by. Adventure abounds. The author packs it all in.
A young untamed girl and a lonely cowboy strive to keep her land and maintain the wilderness past generations had tamed enough to make a living and enjoy life filled with adventure and humor and the grit needed to survive.
Loved this book. Carlie Russel's grit and determination makes you realize just how the women involved in settling the old West fought to survive. The men were tough, but the women had to be even tougher. When Colt Rawlins answers his old friend's call for help, the last thing he expects to find is the little girl he grew up with. I started reading with the intention of finishing it tomorrow, and ended up reading into the wee small hours.
A young girl thinks she can run a cattle ranch by herself. Wrong!
A young girl inherited her families ranch and is trying to run it with an old cowboy who becomes ill and has to quit. He tries to talk her I to hiring hands but she doesn't trust anyone, she is having trouble with a neighbor trying to run her off her property. She is so far behind she does some stupid stuff. She is dirty, doesn't wash her body or clothes so town folks think she's crazy. The old hand brings a friend of his in to help and the girl Carlie Ann and Colt have some amazing runins. The back and forth snipping at each other is absolutely hilarious. I laughed through most of the book, cried in some parts. I would definitely recommend to everyone. A real page turner, 5 star read.
Oh I didn't want this one to end. I loved it. Wonderful storyline and the characters were so thought out, each one written to play their rolls perfectly. I love the way Juliette Douglas writes! Her books always pull me in from the very beginning, each page taking me further and further into the adventure until the very end, leaving me feeling teary eyed and happy. Well done! Waiting impatiently for the next one. JudyE
This was an excellent western romance! It was well written, full of excitement, and hard to put down. It was the story of a young girl who had lost everything; her parents, grandparents, her ancestral home, her pet wolf and her childhood friend. She needs help and finds it in an unexpected place. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would definitely recommend it!
Like all Juliette’s books I was sad when I finished Pocket full of stars. Her Characters come to life as you turn the pages and you feel like you’re part of what’s happening in the story. I hope this book is the start to a new series and I’ll be watching for more! I’d recommend it to anyone that likes a good western with bold women and strong men.
Started slow but got better after Chapter 3. The interaction between Carlie and Colt was great. Carlie’s I can do anything attitude mixed with Colt’s ok good luck approach made for very interesting situations. Just enough suspense as to what Riley was going to do made it difficult to put the story down. Wanted to know what was next. I highly recommend the story.
I really enjoyed reading this western where the main character is a young women. There was a lot of action, but also character development and romance. Depicts the hard life that ranchers lived during those times. Besides fighting the elements, cpld freezing temperatures, they also had to defend against land grabbers.
