An outstanding compilation of never published "feeder" stories that introduce you to the various authors urban fantasy series. Perfect short reads that give you a taste of their writings styles, characters and subgenres. Very enjoyable.

I got this as a free download from the Kobo website. These shorts were very tasty morsels, just the right length for a before bed read. I particularly enjoyed Scapegoat, Siloed, and Run Away. I think there is a bit of something for all fans of Urban Fantasy and the paranormal in this little collection. The stories are gritty, sometimes noir-ish and suck you in from the very first sentence. I would read more by these authors. A very good taster collection.

For me, this was a somewhat uneven collection of short urban fantasy made totally worth reading by a couple of standout stories. The collection as a whole is neatly formatted with a helpful table of contents and minimal proofreading errors. Note that some stories contain violent imagery and occasional coarse language.
Aimee Easterling’s “Scapegoat” – 5 stars. This werewolf story was so much fun! I was immediately drawn into the story. The language was vivid, the pacing was good, but the best aspect was the characters. Ms. Easterling has a real gift for creating characters who are memorable, quirky, and likeable. I also appreciated the touches of humor, and the author’s background as a biologist and her experience with farm animals were apparent in how she wrote about the animals in this story. This story ties in with some of the author’s other werewolf books, such as the Wolf Rampant Series, but it stands on its own.
Tori Centanni’s “Dead Goblins and Overdue Rent” – 3 stars. This story introduces witch and supernatural PI Dani Warren, who will be featured in the upcoming Brimstone Magic Series. I thought this was ok, but not as compelling as it could have been. I found the scenes where Dani was interacting with other characters somewhat amusing, but the story ended without really resolving anything and left me feeling rather unsatisfied.
“Magically Hidden” by Rachel Medhurst – 2 stars. I really disliked the main character in this story. She is shallow and vain and constantly brags about being an Essex witch, but the significance of that is never really made clear. She makes too many references to lusting after her crime-fighting partner, but I didn’t feel any chemistry between them. In fact, I didn’t get much sense of who any of the characters were other than the main character. I didn’t particularly find either the story or the characters interesting and never really cared what happened.
“Siloed” by Dale Ivan Smith – 5 stars. Gripping story about a sorceress serving as a guard in a prison for supernatural creatures referred to as “manifestations” (I liked the mythology here). The setting is creepy and the tension steadily builds right up to the exciting climax. The ending was surprisingly touching. This story is complete and stands on its own, but also serves as an introduction to the author’s upcoming urban fantasy series, which I am now looking forward to reading.
“Alchemy and Destiny” by Becca Andre – 4 stars. Intriguing story about a hunter who is more than just human and wants to study alchemy in order to break what he perceives as his family curse. This was an interesting, well-paced story and I really liked the main character. This story basically serves as an introduction to The Final Formula Series, and although much remains unresolved at the end of the story, I felt satisfied with the ending and look forward to reading the series.
“Dirty Magic” by N.R. Hairston – 3 stars. This story of a planet-hopping telekinetic who provides disappearance and protection services was just ok for me. I never really connected with the main character. Also, this one is quite violent and has some pretty gross imagery if you’re sensitive.
“Run Away” by Kat Cotton – 4 stars. This was an engaging story about a girl with special abilities she doesn’t understand who has run away from her home with the circus and is living in fear until she meets someone who can help her control her powers. The story leaves a lot of questions unanswered, but I was immediately drawn into Jayne’s story, cared about her, and really enjoyed watching how her story unfolded. I was a little surprised by the ending, but that just really made me want to continue Jayne’s story in the upcoming book, Smoke, Mirrors and Demons (The Carnival Society Book 1).

Scapegoat, Aimee Easterling: Young woman is saved from attacker by what she thinks may be a werewolf, but they don't exist, right? He gives her his contact information when he manifests as a human and for some reason she holds onto this information for 15 years. Fast forward to her being a wildlife biologist observing a wolf family. Said wolves are endangered as ranchers think they're killing livestock. She contacts the werewolf who just happens to be in the immediate vicinity. He and his fellow were save the day and she decides to join their pack.
Dead Goblins and Overdue Rent, Tori Centanni: Dani Warren is a witch and P.I. who is attacked by a zombie goblin at a bus stop. After vanquishing him she searches for who is behind this anomaly. She discovers that Edgar Moore, a necromancer, is the animator (necromancy is illegal) and is forming an army of zombie goblins to destroy the Magic Council. Dani was possessed by a demon in the past and has acquired demon magic (also illegal) She is forced to use it to erase evidence of the zombie goblins. Edgar escapes so will no doubt be encountered in the future. Departing before she is caught by human authorities she next must convince her vampire landlord that she will pay her overdue rent soon.
Magically Hidden, Rachel Medhurst: Devon is an Essex witch connected to the ley line. She is employed by the Hunted Witch Agency and is assigned to investigate thefts of valuable magical artifacts from museums. After several unsuccessful attempts she and her co-workers manage to catch the bad guys and discover the motive behind these thefts.
Siloed, Dale Ivan Smith: I found this an unusual story but quite attention grabbing due to the excellent character development. Elizabeth has been assigned guard duty at a prison for supernatural creatures.
Her supervisor, Margery, seems to go out of her way to keep reminding Elizabeth that she is low man on the totem pole. It turns out Margery wants to escape what she considers her prison, despite the fact she is one of the guards. Elizabeth has to turn to one of the prisoners to keep a total jailbreak from occurring.
Alchemy and Destiny, Becca Andre: James is the youngest of four brothers who own a sporting goods store. Two of his brothers go out of their way to torment him and even the eldest brother holds him in contempt. James aspires to be an alchemist, something his brothers cannot fathom. An opportunity arises to attend Alchemica to learn how to create magic bullets and James is allowed to pursue his passion. Unfortunately, the Alchemica is engulfed in flames upon his arrival so that hope is dashed.
He decides to take a walk to clear his head and sees a woman wearing alchemist robes being pursued by three men. We discover that James is a werewolf and he rescues the woman. He brings her home with him and manages to convince his eldest brother that she will teach him how to make the magic bullets.
Dirty Magic, N. R. Hairston: Rekia has the ability to open portals between worlds. She additionally has telekinesis powers. She uses these talents to relocate people, much like a witness protection program. She additionally will help victims who may not be able to afford her fee. She will financially aid them until they can reestablish themselves. She discovers Celina's safe house has been trashed when she does a follow-up visitation. Rekia determines to find Celina and enlists the aid of Trent, a fellow altruist. They discover that Celina and others have been captured by Vane, one of the six top people on Mellen, a world without law where anything goes. It turns out Celina and her associates hope to overthrow the powerful six and create a world governed by rules which would allow the weak to also thrive. This will not be accomplished without bloodshed.
Run Away, Kat Cotton: Jayne is living on the street after running away from the carnival, the only home she has ever known. She is becoming desperate but manages to find an abandoned house to hide in. She is panic stricken when red eyes appear in the darkness and a voice enters her head speaking her name. She flees the empty house and runs directly into a police officer outside. He won't let her escape and insists she come to his home for a meal and shower. Jayne can sense whether a person is good or evil and this ability leads her to trust him. As an added benefit, the voice ceases when she is in his presence. Officer Buzz seems aware of the supernatural and convinces Jayne she can defeat the demon in the empty house. Jayne has found a safe haven and someone who can help her deal with her abilities.

Street Spells
I enjoyed these stories very much. The big problem is now I have more books that I want to read and there is so little time and so many books.

I really enjoyed this story but it made me wonder “why?”. Why would Sienna not believe what she saw? Why would she not go with that handsome young man? Why would she protect wolves? And so on… But it was a good story that kept me interested until the end to see what would happen in the end.
Dead Goblins and Overdue Rent

This story was fast paced and grabbed you right from the start. It kept me wondering throughout the story what the vampires in the first two paragraphs had to do with the rest of the story. It was an interesting way to segue to the real story of dead goblins.

This story was different, it spent the majority of the story giving you the full background of the prison and the people in the prison, both guards and prisoners. What really got to me was the end, I was totally unprepared for that ending. It was wild and I never saw that coming. It was an excellent story.

If you have read any of the books from the Final Formula series, you will really appreciate this look at how James and Addie met. If you have not read the series and enjoyed this short story, then it is a must to read the series. I loved getting James POV of their meeting and how she ended up at his brother’s gun shop. Great prequel to an awesome series.

This story was very different and interesting. It is not often you have a story where there are multiple planets or places. There are some people who can open portals between them and move as many people as they want. Rekia and Trent are quiet unusual characters that you really learn to like. The fight for honor, independence and justice really comes across in this story. I will have to look at reading the others books about them.

Scapegoat
The perfect balance of character forming and story telling is achieved in this short. I found this a great example of things not always as they seem. Rating:4
2) Dead goblins and overdue rent
Love the originality of the main character. It’s also quite refreshing to have no clear good/ bad with riding the grey areas a given. With quirky humor mixed in here and there, this short totally grabs your attention and delivers a quick storyline that truly leaves you looking for more. An easy 5 rating.
3) magically hidden
A witch that is also a PI. The storyline was okay, there was too much explaining which was distracting for me. Rating: 3.2
4) Siloed
A paranormal ( manifestations) prison is this shorts setting, and the attention to detail of these characters is quite intriguing . The storyline is unique to me so this kept me glued and curious. This short truly feels complete and definitely hits the mark with stimulating the need to read more. Rating:5
5) Alchemy and destiny
An in-between read ...this one is a cross of a short and a very well written blurb. The characters took form expertly, and a clear direction is started down the storyline. Enough intrigue is introduced to keep a reader interested, and then its left up to you to seek out the tale. Rating: 4.5
6) Dirty magic
A complete feeling short, this one leaves you feeling content. A tale of characters trying to do the right thing in the face of adversity. A common theme yet it is always interesting to experience a different authors take. The need to read more is left to a readers discretion. Rating: 4
7) Runaway
Last but not least, a very well written short of a lost girl who just wants a home and to belong. Not knowing your roots much less your full potential is daunting without guidance or even the confidence to seek answers. This is the before story which leads to a series, and it has done its job remarkably well. Rating: 4.8

THE BOOK IS A NOVEL WITH DIFFERENT STORIES AND I TELL YOU ONE OF THEM IT WAS THE GOBLINS AND THEY ARE DEAD
OR SO I THOUGHT THEY WERE ONE WAS BUY THE BUS STOP WERE I WAS WAITING FOR THE BUS YOU SEE IT TRY TO KILL ME AND THEN I RAN BUT I HAD POWER BUT I DID NOT WANT NOW ONE TO SEE GOBLIN AT THE BUS STOP.

A collection of stories by multiple authors. There seems to be a trend in paranormal/ urban fantasy kindle stories to present a collection by multiple authors to introduce their works to new readers. Personally, I am a big fan of these because it makes it easier to try new authors without making a huge investment of time or money. There is 2 problems that are common with these collections though. Of course, you will end up reading a lot of stories that are not to your tastes to find a few gems. The second is that some authors tend to write teasers more than an actual short story. By this, I mean their 'story' reads more like the first couple of chapters of a book and end at either a very awkward place or a complete cliffhanger with a link to buy the 'rest of the story'. This isn't bad if it was one of the gems that you found but if it was something that you were just on the fence on reading, it can be frustrating. This collection had a gem or two for me but it also had some that just didn't work for me and a couple of frustrating teasers. Overall, it wasn't bad but it wasn't great either.

Pretty good
It's decent. Not the best thing ever, but worth reading if you like urban fantasy. Proper urban fantasy, not just what some call that but it's really just romance stories with magic. Only one of the authors seemed like the type to do that, but even that story didn't get into that, it just sort of leaned that way (kept describing the male lead as "handsome/manly/irresistible" instead of giving an actual description).
A couple of the stories weren't really stories so much as prequels -- that is, they didn't finish or finished too quickly. But even those seemed to have interesting points to them and so were worth reading if only for the ideas they generated.
So overall, it's super cheap, and worth reading because of that. Mostly it's good as a sampler to decide if you like the different authors so you can look for more stuff in their worlds, and that's okay as long as you go into it knowing that's what you're doing. None of the stories are instant classics or anything worth rereading multiple times, but I don't regret the time spent on the first read either.

An enjoyable selection of fantasy stories, many of which link to series by their author. I have reviewed some separately.
Scapegoat (Easterling) — A young woman saves a family of wolves from the machinations of a rogue werewolf. Not a romance but I have no doubt it leads into one. 4*
Dead goblins and overdue rent (Centanni) A Witch PI finds a zombie gob,in and investigates why goblins have been disappearing. Not as good as the first. I felt like I was missing some information. 3*
Magically Hidden (Medhurst). Again, not as good as the first, for the same reason. I also did not feel I got to know any of the characters. 2*
Siloed (Dale Ivan Smith). Siloed is an interesting story about honour. 4*
Alchemy and destiny (Becca Andre)— interesting beginning to a series. James is learning alchemy in the hope to rid himself of the family curse. I quite liked James but he is not mentioned in the trailers of the other books until the last one.

These were short intros to urban fantasy series. Some were too short to give a thorough sense for the storynor author's abilities. And nothing blew.me away and made me follow up immediately though there were some with possibilities. For future reference, here were my reaction:
Scapegoat by Aimee Easterling: different. I like the initial flashback. Timing for the sake of comedy or effect is a little.off (who has time to wriggle out of 3 layers of clothing when trying to prevent an imminent murder???)
Dead Goblins and Overdue Rent by Tori Centanni: okay.
Magically Hidden by Rachel Medhurst: first person POV with an annoying narrator. Ditzy and too reliant on her heritage. And goes gaga over her partner "Mr. hunky pants". No funny, not empowering.
Siloed by Dale Ivan Smith: could be interesting
Alchemy and Destiny by Becca Andre: could be interesting.
Dirty Magic by N.R. Hairston: telling, not showing that h was too powerful and too "diamond in the rough". Obvious romantic interest too.

I was originally given a copy of this book by Aimee Easterling, whose books I love. Scapegoat, her contribution to this one, is about Sienna, who once danced at a strip club at night to finance her college education. This is where she first meets Chase, and where she first finds out about shifters. Fast forward 16 years to when Sienna is working as a wildlife biologist and studying wolves, actual wolves. Part of her job is to investigate reports of wolves killing livestock. When she is called to the home of a rancher who is sure a wolf is killing his goats, she finds herself calling in reinforcements in the form of Chase and Wolf.
This story is about Wolf Young when he was well, young. I enjoyed the story and it would make me want to read more about Wolf, except I already have, lol. I also like several of the other stories in the book and plan to read more by some of the authors. This book gives you some good looks into the work of authors that you might not otherwise read.

A mixed bag of short stories. Some were only teasers while others stood well by themselves.
Scapegoat: As I read I realized I knew two of the characters. I have no idea where it fits in the timeline. A young woman knows a werewolf from a previous encounter, and calls him for help with some poaching. I enjoyed it. Typo: "Chased asked" (should be Chase).
Dead Goblins: a witch with accidental demonic powers needs to use them to save herself. Entertaining.
Magically Hidden: a guardian witch investigates art theft. Interesting
Typos: lay/lie mix up, plural/singular error ("her gaze were glued"), hung/hanged error.
Siloed: did not finish.
Alchemy and Destiny: several brothers, one of whom is a wannabe alchemist, and who rescues an woman with amnesia. The story ends before the conclusion.
Dirty Magic: did not finish.
Run away: A woman is hounded by demons and finds a protector. I skimmed a bit of the beginning, and the ending feels more like the start of a new story.

Scapegoat- Short story but a good one!!!
Dead Goblins and Overdue Rent- this short story was good and I would like to continue on to see what happens further on..

This review refers only to Run Away (The Carnival Society Prequel) by Kat Cotton
This is a heartbreaking, beautiful short story of how Jayne met Buzz when she was a teenage girl who run away from the only home she knew, alone and scared, and faced with something she cannot escape or fight on her own. It was amazing to see this young Jayne before she became a confident and strong police officer, with a great parent, and coming from a home filled with love. Her life was exceptionally hard and the author did a great job portraying the atmosphere of poverty, loneliness and despair.
Reading order is: Run Away (The Carnival Society Prequel), Smoke, Mirrors and Demons (The Carnival Society Book 1), Demonic Wheel of Death (The Carnival Society Book 2), and Demon's Hell & Damnation (The Carnival Society Book 3) coming soon.

Having read books by N.R. Hairston, Kat Cotton and Rachel Medhurst already I was looking forward to this compilation - It did not disappoint.
There are are a great blend of styles here with some interesting and quirky characters, ranging from the more YA paranormal romance audience, fantasy/sci fi to the more ballsy snarky styles. You will encounter Werewolves, Goblins and Necromancers - To name but a few and, as these are all 'clean' can be enjoyed by all ages, and are a great introduction to some very good writers. I have found a couple of authors in particular who I have not read before, and immediately subscribed to as their work is very enjoyable.
As with any compilation, not all stories will be to everybody's tastes, and I did feel a couple to be rather bland - hence the 4 star rating. This said however, this is FREE now so make your own minds up :)

It is a nice bundle of short stories that you can get for free, to sample the authors. If I understood correct, they are just side stories for the real series.
I liked 3 of the seven:
Scapegoat- Aimee Sterling - is a shifter story; nice, but not all appealing.
Dead Goblins and Overdue Rent- Tori Centanni - it is about a witch/demon supernatural private investigator, and other supernatural types (vampire, fae, and at least one shifter/friend). This story got me hooked by its fast pace and humor. So I just got the first book of this author series (Demon Fire - Brimstone Magic #1). I will let you know when I finish it.
Siloed - Dale Ivan Smith - it is about a witch guard, a kobold, other bad witch and some magical creatures caged on a prisional silo. It got me hooked with Elizabeth and Ulvonous story. I cried a lot in the end. So I got Gremlins Night - Agents of Sorcery #1.

A 5 plus ⭐️ read and I highly recommend this bundle it’s definitely well worth the read.

A great paranormal anthology .
Aimee Easterling "Scrapegoat" a wonderful short story about Sienna and her interactions with Chase. You immediately get pulled into the story just wished it was longer lol.
Tori Centanni "Dead Goblins and Overdue Rent" I was immediately puked into this intriguing story. Dani kicks butt from start to finish

Seven well done
Generally, I don’t care for urban fantasy. These seven novellas proved me wrong. Wrong enough that I went looking for the novels that featured the characters in most of these.
I love good stories featuring strong women - each of these feature a strong female protagonist. Each story is different, yet the characters in each novel share the “I’m not going down without a fight” strength.
I don’t often write reviews because, quite frankly, I’m terrible at them. I can’t actually tell you why I loved these stories or why you will too. The typos are few, the grammar excellent, the stories interesting (and well crafted) and the characters are kick-ass.
And, really, what more could you ask for?

I love anthologies! I always find a new author to obsess over. This was no different. I love discovering new worlds and visiting with old familiar friends, even if it was at a time before I knew them. This is a absolutely perfect book, it gives you the ability to read an entire story at one sitting, on the bus, in the sun on the beach, or just do like I did and read the entire thing at once! I wish I could give it a higher number than 5!! So good! Seriously one of the best ever!

I love anthologies. It's a great way to discover new authors and find new stories by those you love and Street Spells is no exception. This collection of all new short stories from a variety of talented author delivers with stand alone shorts from their series, no previous reading required. I love Aimee Easterlings work and have found new series to drool over.

If it is a collection, anthology or box set I am always buying them and hoping that I find new authors to read! This collection was bought because it had books that were part of series that I have read all of the series and worlds for, such as Scapegoat by Aimee Easterling and Magically Hidden by Rachel Medhurst. There was also a few stories that I wanted to read just from this set!

I've read books by two of the authors - and so I knew that I would like those two stories. The other five authors, I hadn't come across before. The stories are neat and give you an insight into the style of each author. The stories are different lengths and so are a great way to spend half an hour here and there.

A great anthology of short stories that were a blast to read. I have read a few of the authors before and enjoyed reading the new ones too. They were quick reads that made me laugh and introduced author's characters. And I got to visit old characters extra stories. They were all fantasy based stories so I loved them all. Really enjoyed them. Well worth reading!

This is a fun mix of urban fantasy shorts and I enjoyed all of them. Some of the stories are part of existing series by the author, and others are introductions to new series by new-to-me-authors. I enjoyed all of the stories enough to want to know what happens next and have put all of them on my TBR list. This is a collection that all UF fans will love!

Entertaining
I really enjoyed most of these short stories, some even captivating me fully! I'm excited to pursue the series' that most of these short stories come before. I wouldn't pay more than what I did, but it was a genuine treat to read about a bunch of different and unique worlds that the authors came up with.
