A comprehensive manual on the legal and practical aspects of police use of force and force investigations designed for street officers, front-line supervisors, investigators, attorneys, police unions and agency administrators. Suitable for basic academy and in-service training this manual contains information on constitutional parameters, teaching use of force, agency policy, street application, reporting and investigating incidents of the use of deadly or non-deadly force by police officers in the United States.
This book should be required reading for any use of force investigator or police supervisor. Solid and valuable information for any law enforcement officer.
Exasperating. Glad for the perspective I guess. But disturbed by the apparent disregard for human life — if you’re a “suspect” of course. No real discussion/analysis on the misapplication of force and police brutality. The author seems instead to praise “aggressive” officers and advocates for LESS restriction on use of force.
Great, really helps you understand what is generally expected from everyone up and down the chain of command after a use of force incident. As well as a bunch of information about what good departments do (and what bad departments do) with policies regarding laws and thoughts about "force continuum's" (they are bad, cough cough...). I would suggest reading this, especially if you are or thinking about becoming a police officer.
Fantastic book on Police use of force and the investigation of that use of force. Written for law enforcement supervisors, investigators and administrators.
