All Because of Hannah

Rate this book
Thirty-seven-year-old Jillian Moore is about to give birth to her second child. But while in labor, her doctor neglects her for unknown reasons which results in the birth of a profoundly brain damaged girl she names Hannah. As Jillian learns to cope with her sick child, she struggles with growing resentment toward her husband, Nathan, anger toward the doctor, and a fractured relationship with her teenaged daughter, Caroline.

Caroline, meanwhile, goes head first into puberty feeling lonely and confused about her changing life and her new position as the “oldest child.” When she enters high school, she falls in love with a boy who brings happiness in her life, who inspires her to blossom into a confident young woman, and who also happens to be the son of the doctor who delivered Hannah.

Told from the perspectives of Jillian and Caroline, All Because of Hannah is a compelling story about one family’s struggle to raise a child born with cerebral palsy, the strain it puts on the relationship between mother and daughter, and the steps each makes that will either bring their family back together, or tear it apart.

I was profoundly moved by "All Because of Hannah." Not only was I impressed with the clear story telling of a family dealing with a special needs child and being humbled knowing this was the author's first novel, I was deeply connected to the mother and daughter in this book, Jillian and Caroline. The two women must deal with life, family, and growing up, in this case, in between the near-insanity producing effects of a devastating medical malpractice and a seemingly soul-resurrecting first-love. I read this book, almost, in one sitting; and I don't think this book was really the genre of a book I would have originally picked up. But, I'm glad I did! There were twists I did not see coming and the ending was more satisfying than most books I've read in a year. Great job, Danielle Patarazzi. I cannot wait to read your next book!

Having been front and center to a labor and delivery similar to the one described in this book and a birth injury to my granddaughter while not as grave as the one in this story made this a difficult book for me to get thru. It is a feel an important story though.
What do you have to do when a birth injury is caused by an incompetent dr? What does that do to a whole family ? The author gets that and much else right

The twist at the end was unexpected and I applaud the author for her frankness

Told from the points of view of Jillian (mother) and Caroline (daughter), All Because of Hannah is the story of a family's turmoil, heartbreak, and adjustment after the birth of a baby goes terribly wrong. The voices sound authentic, though I would have liked to have heard the point of view of the father and less of the daughter, to round out the family's story. A good first novel.

All Because of Hannah by Danielle Patarazzi is a contemporary fiction novel about a woman who has just given birth to her second child. Due to medical negligence, her daughter is born with brain damage and cerebral palsy. However, Jillian Moore has an older daughter, Caroline. The family now must struggle with some grave decisions about life and family, and doing what’s best for Hannah, without losing their own bond. Caroline, in the meantime, struggles with guilt and puberty. Yet, some unexpected circumstances will test them all.

I was admittedly drawn in by the author’s easy writing style and the flow of the novel. The chapters, while bouncing back and forth from Jillian to Caroline’s point of view, were easy to follow, profiting different viewpoints of the same story. I felt I could relate to each of the characters’ struggles surrounding Hannah, as well as in their own daily lives. I found some points hard to believe, like Caroline’s parents’ reactions to some of her less favorable choices, but I was willing to overlook that for the sake of the character’s development. I would have liked to have read more about the diagnosis of Hannah and how the conclusion was drawn that she did have cerebral palsy. I feel that part was glazed over to focus more on the reactions of Jillian and her family. On the whole, though, All Because of Hannah by Danielle Patarazzi was a heartwarming read with a very strong theme of family coming together in times of hardship.

A GEM OF A BOOK THAT YOU SHOULD READ
Being a 74 year old male, I must confess that I managed to live a life without reading a girly book where: a women gives birth to a brain damaged baby, a teen girl suffers through puberty, a boyfriend bears the sins of his father and a husband/father has trouble coping with it all. Each character suffers through their own lengthy moral conflict and guilt over baby Hannah's tragic birth.

Honestly, I tend to read action/adventure books by James Patterson, Stuart Woods, David Baldachin or an occasional book I wrote. But when Danielle Patarazzi won my book, Cajun Chameleon, in a goodreads giveaway program and I saw that she to wrote a book, I ordered it and glad I did.

The book is a heart warming story that shows that tragedy can unite and make us all stronger.
And FINALY, the character that has the least problem coping is the one you wouldn't expect, Hannah.

I really liked the first few chapters and the compelling storyline because I had on older step sister with disabilities. The writing is good and the last chapter had me tearing up. So why 3 stars? I didn’t like the teen sex, drug and alcohol use with “Oh Well” excuses especially considering the whole story. This is the authors debut and that’s why I’m reviewing it instead of tossing it, because she is a talented writer.

Very well rounded story, that tugged my heart! I could not put it down. I picked it up to read for the day and finished. The characters you get a sense of what pulls them together. The story builds up felt more like a thriller than a novel halfway through the book. For a first book written by the author, well done!

Mary -A young mother is awaiting the birth of her second child when the incomprehensible actions of an incompetent doctor causes irreversible brain damage to the baby and leaves her and her family shattered.

This is a beautifully written book about how they face the ensuing challenges.

The author draws you into this family’s journey quickly and holds you
until the unexpected ending.
