To było... okej

Długo się zastanawiałam czy dać trzy czy cztery gwiazdki i skończyło się na czymś pomiędzy, bo po prostu nie umiem tego określić

Były emocje, pełno emocji.
Wciągnęłam się w fabułę, byłam ciekawa jak się to skończy, plot twisty w większości zadziałały (chociaż część przewidziałam, ale to z nawyku zbytniego analizowania wszystkiego po przeczytaniu masy książek, i muszę przyznać że i tak nie miałam pewności co do wielu rzeczy), humor też mi się nawet spodobał. I może wspomniane tytuły musicali też mnie trochę kupiły, szczególnie że było wspomniane więcej niż tylko jeden tytuł.

Tyle że też mam wrażenie, że część rzeczy nie była do końca dopracowana, ale nie umiem do końca powiedzieć co. Po prostu książka wydawała się momentami dosyć niepełna.
Może też część rzeczy byłaby bardziej realistyczna, gdyby to się działo w czasach trochę dawniejszych niż nasze, ale z drugiej strony wtedy połowa innych wydarzeń by nie pasowała, więc nie będę się czepiać.

Podoba mi się też, że jedna z relacji romantycznych (?) nie była specjalnie jakoś forsowana tak żeby była dużą częścią fabuły i ostatecznie nie było jej jakoś dużo (przez co z drugiej strony może wydawać się też trochę naciągana, ale bardziej by była gdyby nagle stała się jednym z głównych tematów, więc też fajnie że tak się nie stało, bo w końcu nie o tym była książka).
Niektóre inne wątki które mi się wydawały lekko naciągane się ostatecznie wyjaśniły, więc też ok.

W skrócie – ciekawie się czytało, nie wiem czy przeczytam to więcej niż raz ale nie uważam żebym straciła na tym czas. Pomogło się trochę oderwać od życia i skupić się na krzyczeniu na głównych bohaterów za pomocą pisania ołówkiem na marginesach.

a i jeszcze: znowu się potwierdziło, że pisarze zdecydowanie coś mają do psów i matek XD

This novel is a novel that will speak to a generation who have grown up under the influence of social media and YouTube and who have found a way to express themselves through this media. A retelling of Robin Hood, set in modern day England, it involves a group called “Payback” who have found notoriety and fame by stealing from those who have been perceived to have gained their wealth on the backs of the disadvantaged. They steal cash from the rich and redistribute (quite randomly) the money to those in less affluent areas. Tom is a neglected and easily influenced young man who faithfully follows Payback online. After stumbling across the Payback team he becomes their newest recruit. Unfortunately, Tom has been caught up in some underhanded business of his own and he brings that drama and danger to the group. Add in the police force and underworld criminals chasing them and the story gains in intensity and pace. As the lines between risk and safety, good and bad, rich and poor become blurred, Tom also learns that addressing economic inequality is not as simple as giving poor people money. Characters in the novel, with seemingly good intentions, have their own agendas and Tom begins questioning his own and others motives as the net of greed and corruption threatens the existence of the group.

This modern Robin Hood inspired heist thriller has moments of pure inspiration - I love how they use social media and politics. The thriller aspect is quite well handled as well, there’s the cops, the first target we see, and the heists themselves. All moving nicely to keep the story running along at a steady stream.

However none of the characters really had much depth. The only character we learn much about in terms of drive is Tom, but even then we only get so far. There’s really nothing about his family except they’re absent and his dads a dick. There’s no motivation for anything. Also it doesn’t seem like this crew could possibly have run for two years, they’re a mess.

The heists are good fun, and the pace is pretty good, but I think it could have been filled out more as it’s a short book. Plus it starts right in the action which is always good to get going, but gives you no time to establish anything, and I think Payback suffers as a result.

I did really like the ending though, and the pace and thriller aspect were easily good enough to keep me interested. I just wanted more depth. 3.5 stars.

To nie była najlepsza książka jaką przeczytałam, nie trafi na pewno do moich ulubionych pozycji, ale mimo wszystko podobało mi się. Była bardzo młodzieżowa, szczególnie język jakim była napisana na to wskazywał, historia też nie powala, ale nie była też zła, dobrze się ją czytało, bohaterowie byli dobrze wykreowani i myślę, że wielu, w szczególności młodym, osobom może się spodobać. Myślę, że mogłaby przekonać do czytania książek w szczególności chłopaków w wieku nastoletnim i im szczególnie przypadnie do gustu, chociaż też nie mogę obiecać, ani nie odradzam innym osobom. Przyjemna historia :))

This is a fun little book about a group of youths pulling of heists on big companies to give back to the community. Nothing amazing in terms of plot or characters but I enjoyed the heist parts.
I wanted to be more lenient considering this is YA but the ending of this was so drawn out and unsatisfying.

"...If the government aren't going to do the right thing - we are!” This is story covers themes of inequality, deception, learning to adapt and life having meaning.
Rendall is a somewhat annoying protagonist in that he rather blatantly gives Sinclair too many leads in her investigation to find Payback. I'm not sure I buy that he was allowed to join them.

This book was the longest book I have ever read - for a short book. I read three other books whilst reading this book. I made friends bonded through the hatred we shared of this book. I finished this book because I was left with no other choice. Please. Save yourself the time. The plot made no sense. I remember a trampoline and a fox. That is all.

Jak te punkty payback

Something that really irritated me about the book was how the main character, Tom, would always take risks without thinking. This was stated at the beginning of this book, “Tom is one of those ride or die type people, so don't get too wound up over the daring things he does”- Payback gang. When I read that quote I was expecting it to have some trickery behind it as if in the end he wasn't all daring, but once I reached the end of the book I soon realised it was true; which kind of flattened the story as I could predict what was going to happen every time something dangerous happens, making the story seem a bit too predictable. The main character Tom is a bit of a fanboy, finding himself actually hanging around with the heroes he has idolised for what seems like forever, doing small jobs until he has earned their trust. The way the author used the gang's challenges to show how brave Tom was closely relates to the real world because of how everyone faces challenges during their lifetime and there will most likely always be someone to stop you from achieving your goals. I feel that the way the gang treated Tom was wrong; he shouldn't be treated this way, just because he was new to the gang; he shouldn't have been forced to end up controlling the whole poor vs rich society when all the others backed off. Payback members need to know how their actions can affect one another through power over each other. In Payback, the gang members don't care at all about the way they’re treating Tom. Here, the author is trying to show how much the gang really cared about Tom, just because of his strength and bravery. Some gangs in the real world are like this; they either have no idea of the harm caused towards other members, or simply don't care.

Na samym początku muszę powiedzieć, że książka ta dostarczyła i wielu emocji, a szczególnie zakończenie. Ale zacznijmy od początku. Pierwszy rozdział wybiega trochę w przyszłość i właśnie z niego (i z opisu) wiemy, że nasz narrator – Tom dołączył do Paybacku. Następnie możemy krok po kroku obserwować proces wstępowania do tej grupy, co nie było takie łatwe. Jeśli chodzi o samą grupę, to jest ona znana jako kontynuator działalności Robin Hooda. Czy tak było rzeczywiście? Dowiecie się po przeczytaniu. Ciekawe jest to, że każdy bohater jest inny niż pozostali: ma swoje zainteresowania, funkcje w grupie oraz problemy, których w tej powieści nie brakuje. Wszystkie akcje Paybacku wiązały się z licznymi komplikacjami, co bardzo mi się podobało, bo pokazywało, że nie wszystko przychodzi sobie ot tak. Zabiegiem, który napędzał akcję było śledztwo detektyw Sinclair, które z kolei utrudniało działanie nie tylko Paybacku, ale i innych osób. To dopiero rozwiązuje się pod koniec, więc nie powiem o kogo chodzi, ale jeśli czyta się uważnie, to można się tego domyślić. Podobnie dzieję się z wątkiem przeszłości i motywów jednego bohatera – przez całą książkę oczami Toma są nam podsuwane wskazówki do rozwiązania tej sytuacji. Podsumowując, wrażenia moje są jak najbardziej pozytywne. „Payback” dostarczył mi wiele emocji i pochłonął mnie do tego stopnia, że nie mogłam zasnąć, dopóki nie skończyłam książki. Zakończenie, a szczególnie ostatnie 3 strony są bardzo obiecujące i dające nadzieję na… No właśnie, tego dowiecie się po świetnej lekturze. Serdecznie polecam.
