“You thought you could walk right into Az-ca, take over where you left off centuries ago, and everybody would just fall in with your plans. Is that it?” “I didn’t count on her—never saw her in all my divinations.” He meant Sherra. An unseeable. He’d divined Thorn II, just not his Queen and partner. “So. You wanted to take over after practically destroying their current King—who was a very good King, and before that, an excellent Commander of the army. That’s a hell of a way to get Az-ca’s population to adore you, isn’t it?” “I can offer them peace,” he began. “Except you can’t. Kaakos is still alive, remember, and he’ll be coming for you—of that I have no doubt. You know it, too, and you can’t take him on without Az-ca’s army at your back.” “I thought we could work together—Thorn II and I. That he’d see the reason in it after a while.” “And, as he’s currently powerless, what choice would he have?” I sniped. “Except he has the strongest Queen you’ve ever seen at his side, and she certainly won’t fall for that bullshit.” ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* The present King of Az-ca has been rendered powerless through an unsuspected coup, and is overcome with despair. Kaakos has escaped death, but is forced to leave Ny-nes. Now, his sole focus is revenge. Az-ca’s citizens have fallen victim to the enemy’s lies, and civil war threatens to split the country. Sherra is forced to divide her attention between searching for the enemy, dealing with traitors and struggling with the King’s misery and desolation. When the blood spell that rendered Kerok powerless takes a turn even its maker didn’t expect, only her dreamwalker, with help from another, can hope to turn the tide…
Connie Suttle lives in Oklahoma with her husband and three cats.
Connie holds an MFA in Fine Art (film production and animation) and taught courses at the university level before moving on to bookstore management. Nowadays, if she isn't writing or editing, she's dreaming up her next book.
Another wonderful book from my favourite author. Another strong and brilliant woman given the starring role. I loved this series and like others who’ve reviewed it am confident that Connie won’t leave us hanging with this wonderful list of characters in limbo, so I just say that Sherra and Kerok et al have just become part of my imagined world and this final book in the series was completely satisfactory., and if this series is the first from Connie Suttle you’ve read, read Blood Wager, and you’ll have begun a series you won’t be able to leave.
I Loved Queen of Thorns and Roses💖. Everyone came together to achieve what needed to be done. Sherra has so many things that need her attention that she finds help with new and past characters. And what an ending. Connie Suttle always leaves me wanting more. The way she puts different storylines that all comes together to make a awesome addition to this series. A must read series and author!!
Connie Suttle does it again... draws you into the story, making you laugh, cry and cheer along with the vast cast of heroes and heroines. Her villeins are wicked, her heroes are flawed, but her women are always kick-ass! Kudos to Ms. Suttle. She always leaves us wanting more!
As with most CS books there is a lot going on. I thought about re-reading the first books again, but I think she does a good job of catching the reader up so I didn't really need to. I enjoyed this book along with the rest in this series. It is not the same as the other series--I'm still waiting for her to connect this to them too some how, hah.
2.5 stars. DNF. I'm tired of these characters' stupid acts; typically brought on by stupid secret-keeping and over-emotional thinking. I also simply can't keep ignoring the poor world-building with all of its internal inconsistencies and implausibilities. The concept is good, it's the writing I simply can no longer abide.
I have been waiting such a long time for this book the storyline was fantastic I loved all the characters new and old especially old and I really really really was saddened to see it in it was that good.
This was a good end to Sherra's story. I'm pretty sure we will hear from the people in this universe again. Anari, Briar, Collin, Fraya, Klete, Kyal, Laren, Soobi and others might need to be heard from. :)
Although the previous series were very entertaining to read, this book however felt a little incomplete and rushed, like the yielding curve of the strength of metal, the conclusion abruptly cutoff and dangling. Despite the disappointment it was good to see this book have a conclusion.
I have loved this series. I'm very sad that its come to the end. I plan to read them all again next year one after the other. I would give it more than 5 stars if I had my way.
Fantastic read!! So much happening in this one from every angle. Never sure what will happen but can’t wait to find out!! Really can’t wait for the next one!!!
I absolutely and truly loved the Black Rose Series. I felt like I was truly there with them and a part of all the action. The world building was constructed so well and fascinating. I loved how the end came about the only thing I wished for is that it was from Sherra's perspective and I could have seen it better. I also wish we could have seen how everyone was doing with peace finally in place and shared it with them. I would highly recommend this series.
Connie you did it again you transported me to a world of vivid imagination and I fell in love with the characters.
I didn't like that she slept with thorn while he had Thorn I body.
I wanted to know what happened to the 3 men left in Ny-nes temple that were connected to Kaakos did they die.
What happened to the people she place in the hills? Did they collect all who had power and brought them to the floating city? Did they decide to float forever or did they land and started somewhere new for Az-ca and rename their county?
Great conclusion to an excellent series. Three main characters spend time being someone else and a little kid saves the day. I'll definitely be rereading this shortly to try and pick up what I missed the first time. Ms Suttle continues to be my favourite author.
