Grieving Navy SEAL widower, John Decker, commemorating the two-year anniversary of the day he lived and his wife died, is dragged back into life by a riptide and a blonde he can't get out of his thoughts. Plagued with survivor's guilt, he's reluctant to enter a new relationship, until he meets a feisty bartender with attitude and curves to go with it.
Roxi Lanier was the typical young teen in the city, happy, full of life and bulletproof, until she became the victim of a violent crime. Her mother moved her to Wellfleet on Cape Cod, away from the scene of her misfortune to start over. Fourteen years later, she's still afraid to date and be intimate with a man, the scars of her past overriding the happiness she craves. Though she's an independent owner of a thriving beach bar, she has yet to find success in love. Tides change when she witnesses a suicidal widower diving headfirst into a riptide.
Decker and Roxi struggle to stay afloat through the wreckage of their pasts and the storms of the present to sail into a future together.

A great stand-alone story set in the Remington’s world.
I’ve never read any of Melissa Foster’s books but that didn’t make any difference in my enjoyment of this book by Elle James. I’ve read many books by Elle James and have loved them all and this one is no exception.
John Decker suffered an unbearable loss when his wife was killed in a car accident; an accident that he survived. He has a massive case of survivor’s guilt. He sold their home in the city and moved to Cape Cod where he has withdrawn from everyone and everything.
Roxi suffered an unimaginable trauma when she was only 13 years old. She hasn’t been able to be intimate with anyone as a result.
These two are drawn to each other and the sparks fly. Throw in a storm, and a dog that’s afraid of them and you have the ingredients of a good story where two lonely people are healed.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading an advanced copy this book in exchange for my unbiased opinion and review.
I was given a copy of this novella to read and review for an honest opinion by the Author.

Received this book as an ARC for an honest nest review. Loved this stoty‼️ Decker is a widower with survivors guilt and after 2 years is still grieving. Roxi is the owner of the local bar and grill and has her own issues. All she needs is Otis her German Shepard and her bar. This is their story of over coming tragedy and learning to live again. I recommend to all readers wanting a deep rich story to fall into. Could not put this book down. Happy reading looking forward to more of Elle's books.
I am loving this series, and the characters are sexy in this series.
Cape Cod SEAL Rescue is the tenth exciting tale of loyalty and courage, and looming threats jeopardise their lives and the lives they swore to protect. This story not only highlights the fierce devotion of its alpha heroes but also emphasises the importance of connection and resilience against a backdrop of uncertainty and danger.
Cape Cod SEAL Rescue is charged with tension as they navigate this new environment as bodyguards. Along his journey, he encounters a diverse cast of characters, including resilient women who exude strength and empathy, showcasing their remarkable tenacity in the face of adversity.
Absolutely magical and deeply heartfelt, Love on the Rocks can open up any heart to endless possibilities and undeniable hope. The torrid past that brings these beautiful characters together releases a perfect storm that ends in the rebuilding and healing of two shattered souls who have been waiting an eternity for the other. Their present collision allows for the quick and nimble winds of change to clear out the ugly baggage from years past and show them a beautifully peaceful and tepid shore calming and encouraging the new day dawning in the heart and the eyes of the other. While life can’t be erased, each day provides us with an opportunity to start anew and fresh. What a precious and wonderful gift that should never be taken lightly or ignored.
John is not able to handle the death of his wife, so in a vain attempt to escape her memory, he moves to a cottage in Cape Cod. The peaceful and tranquil effect of the sea only adds to John’s mounting guilt and anxiety. In a fit of overwhelming grief, he decides to drown it inside the salty arms of the ocean. What starts out as a soul crushing and heart wrenching ordeal ends up as his reason for living and fighting for another day. It took the courageous and reckless action of Roxi, the local bar owner, to jolt sense into him. Her courage jumpstarted his heart back to life, and he longs to learn how to live again. Roxi has hidden away from the world because of the deep scars of her past. She begins to feel things that she never has when John is around, and once she works past her initial fear, she boldly decides that she no longer wants to hide. Her determination leads her to become the reason that John wants to watch as many sunrises and sunsets as possible. Will Roxi quickly pull back and renege her rash decision, or will John decide that he is too broken even for a woman who has such a huge heart and turns his world upside down?
Watching John and Roxi stumble through the pain of their past into the arms of each other made my heart leap for joy. The healing and comfort that only the other could provide was something worth taking a risk on. It was only when the opened their heart to the other did they realize the new world that had been opened up to them was filled with more love and joy then they could ever experience in a lifetime. I loved how patient and loving John was with Roxi when he found out what all she had lived through. He wanted nothing more than to protect, cherish, and love her like she deserved, and in turn Roxi was patient and caring as while John decided if he could give her his entire heart or if he would always be stuck in the past with this dead wife. The beginning of their new romance was simply beautiful, and I just couldn’t get enough of how well they complimented the other.
This is my first taste of Elle James, and I hope it will not be my last. I enjoyed every twist and turn in her beautifully flowing storyline, and I was completely mesmerized by her wonderful characters. It was such a pleasure to watch this breathtaking story take flight and bloom into the most spectacular array of vivid colors that drowned out the dark shades of black and grey. What a wonderful addition to the Remington World stories!

“I volunteered and received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated for my review, and I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed here is my own.”
10 Cape Cod SEAL Rescue (Brotherhood Protectors Book 10)by Elle James (Author) 5 stars I purchased a copy of the short romantic suspense novel Cape Cod SEAL Rescue (Brotherhood Protectors Book 10):John and Roxi by Elle James and this review was given freely. An easy flowing, fast paced and poignant story of finding love post loss as well as a good introduction to the start of the east coast branch of the Brotherhood Protectors. Despite Hank and Sadie spends their vacation in Cape Cod to support Hank's friend the former Navy SEAL John Decker on the two year anniversary of the car accident John survived but his wife Allison did not, John finds it hard to move on until rape victim owner of the Gone Fishin’ Bar & Grill, Roxi Lanier, her dog Otis and hurricane Charlie change his mind.
11 Montana SEAL Friendly Fire (Brotherhood Protectors Book 11)by Elle James (Author) 4 stars I purchased a copy of the short romantic suspense novel Montana SEAL Friendly Fire (Brotherhood Protectors Book 11)by Elle James and this review was given freely. A poignant story of love, survivor's guilt and a death request mixed with a government conspiracy looping back to Montana. Feeling lost one year after a mission gone bad kills his best friend Mason “Con Man” Connolly and places distance between Chief Petty Officer Trevor Anderson and the woman he loves, Mason's widow HomeLand Security in San Diego employee Lana, Trevor returns home to Montana and joins the Brotherhood Protectors only to have his newly found peace broken by a mysterious call for help from Lana which leads to him saving her from a home invasion.
This is a short, fast paced love story of two people overcoming tragic pasts to find love. John Decker wishes he had died two years ago in a crash that killed his wife. As a retired Navy Seal, he's had offers to join The Brotherhood Protection. Not ready to commit to a job or anything, he relocates to Wellfleet on Cape Cod where he spends much of his days on his porch staring out at the ocean.
Roxi Lanier has spent her life, since age 13, not truly living. As the owner of a bar on Wellfleet, she often sees Decker having a drink or eating. After diving into the ocean to "rescue" what she thinks is a despondent Decker, she decides to start living her life.
Although I enjoyed this novella, I was expecting a little more suspense, drama. It was easily relatable and dealt with heavy topics. I did expect Roxi to be a little more nervous, scared when it came to intimacy, but loved her take charge attitude. This is a love story of two damaged souls learning to live life fully and love again. This novella also opened up the possibility of the Brotherhood Protection expanding to the East coast with Decker heading up an office there. I read a gifted copy and all opinions stated are my own.
This book starts off tugging at my heartstrings. Decker is a widower, the accident that took his wife's life also led to his medical discharge from the Navy. Hank Patterson tries once again to entice him to come to Montana and join the Brotherhood Protectors, but he declines claiming to be content and satisfied living on the beach in Cape Cod.
Roxi owns the Gone Fishin' Bar and Grill it's a cozy place loved by locals and tourists alike. Decker frequently has dinner there and finds himself more than a little attracted to her. She frequently sees him on her runs with her dog Otis, sitting on his porch watching the ocean.
This particular night, filled with guilt, finds Decker heading into the ocean for a punishing swim to assuage the pain. Seeing him dive into the waters has Roxi scared he would be caught in the riptides caused by the approaching storm.
Roxi finds that her attraction could possibly lead to more, but is Decker ready to move on.
I love Otis, he's such a loyal dog even if he's scared of thunder and lightening. It's Otis that causes them to have to ride out the storm in Decker's cottage on the beach. A scary situation that is overridden by the heat between these two.
I can't wait to see what Elle comes up with for the next book in this series.
Cape Cod SEAL Rescue is the tenth book in The Brotherhood Protectors Series by Elle James. This series is a great blend of romance, action, and suspense - which is all set against the rugged backdrop of Montana. These books introduce us to a team of former military heroes who dedicate their lives to protecting others, all while navigating their own personal battles. Ms. James’ characters are definitely the heart of this series, and each protector is uniquely crafted, with a mix of strength, vulnerability, and charm. Their camaraderie and loyalty to one another also creates a sense of family that adds an extra element to the stories/series. These plots are fast-paced and packed with twists, cleverly blending high-stakes danger with heartfelt romance. Whether it's a SEAL turned cowboy, or a sniper finding love amidst chaos, each book delivers a satisfying mix of adrenaline and emotion. Elle James also weaves in themes of redemption, trust, and healing, making the series not just entertaining, but also heartfelt. With gripping storylines, endearing characters, and just the right amount of heat, this is a series that will leave you eagerly reaching for the next installment. Happy Reading…
A great short read about an ex SEAL, Decker, who is still grieving the loss of his wife years later and the beautiful owner of a bar, Roxi, a bar that he visits frequently. Since his wife’s death he hasn’t felt anything towards a woman until the feisty bar owner but Roxi has her own demons that she lives with everyday, not being in a relationship after an incident that scarred her for life. Both live with demons from the past but can the two of them let the past remain there and have a future together ? A short read that packs quite a punch with steamy and sensual scenes that had my heart racing. My heart went out to both of them especially Roxi but what she overcame and now is doing with her life, a strong woman who is the perfect match for Decker. Decker, what a man, and I loved that he didn’t become a man wh*** after what happened...refreshing and I loved it. A read that flowed beautifully with a bit of suspense and an ending that was perfect. *I voluntarily read an advanced copy and expressed my honest opinion*
This is the tenth book in the Brotherhood Protectors series. John Decker is a widower who lost his wife and his military career as a Seal in an accident two years ago. John is still grieving over the loss of his wife. To get away from his memories of his wife he moved to Cape Cod. On the anniversary of his wife's death his friend Hank Patterson comes to check on him and spend the day with him. That evening he decides to take a swim only to discover the storm coming in has caused some riptides. Out of nowhere comes a woman Roxie Lanier to save him but he ends up saving her instead. Roxie Lanier is the bar owner and bartender John has had some erotic thoughts about. Both John and Roxie have some trauma in their lives they need to get past to see if they can allow the spark between them to turn into a flame. I love this book. The story is original, the characters have such heart wrenching trauma in their pasts you can't help but feel for them. This is a must read!
This read was quick, easy, good, and sexy. It ends at 91% which was kind of disappointing. I paid $2.99 for it but felt it should’ve been a $.99 book...but I’ve gotten free books by this author before so it balances out. I did think it could’ve been more. For two supposed traumatized souls...they not only got over their traumas quick enough but also found instalove. I would’ve hoped for some more suspense or whatever to it. Just some more teeth to it. But it was also what I wanted. A book to distract me to fantasy land for a couple of hrs. I would’ve given it 3.5 stars if allowed due to fact of the price, the shortness of the book, and that it just seemed to be missing something. But I rounded up to 4 stars as over all it is a pretty decent read for a quick book...and not as bad as a 3 star book....
John Decker has moved to Cape Cod to escape life for a bit. He lost his wife in a car accident, he couldn't save her. He gets a visit from Hank Patterson on the anniversary of his wife's death. Hank can see that John isn't quite living life the way his wife would want him to.
Roxi Lanier runs a bar after leaving New York as a teenager. She is a victim of a violent crime and she is hiding from life as well. There is an attraction there but neither is willing to go forward until Roxi swims out to save John when he goes swimming in the ocean with a riptide. Things change then as they barely make it to shore.
This was a sweet story about second chances and letting go of the past. Roxi is a sassy woman who is stronger than she knows. She also has a wonderful German Shepard to protect her. John is a former SEAL who is alpha all the way but also has a vulnerable side.
Decker living on Cape Cod trying to survive survivors guilt. Coming up on the second anniversary aka two years since his wife was killed Decker is just going through the motions. Hank comes to visit to check on his friend and urge him back into the Brotherhood Protectors in Montana.
Roxie owns the bar Decker frequents. She was raped when she was thirteen. Decker is making her feel things she has never felt before and it scares her a bit. The night Decker and Hank leave the bar she is out walking her dog when Decker heads into the ocean that has a riptide warning. Jumping in after him, both Roxie and Decker are fighting the current and a desire to live.
A hurricane with all its wind and rain push these two together.
I love these type of stories. Both characters are broken inside but they are willing to start over and give their lives another chance. Decker has lost his wife in an accident while he miraculously survived. He has blamed himself for so many years but now he wants to give himself the chance to be happy. On the other hand, Roxy, owing to her ugly past, has not allowed herself any normal relationship with men. Decker is a keeper and she finally feels that she can trust this man with her life. Two broken souls that meet and learn to love and trust again. A heartbreaking story of a second chance in love. I highly recommend this book. I received an advanced copy of the book.
Decker and Roxi had much grief they needed to work through from death of a spouse, death of a parent, and a brutal attack. Trauma needs a kind, caring, loving individual to help the victim heal. Roxi found that gentleness in Decker. Decker needed to be able to let go of his guilt for not dying too. Allison would have wanted him to move forward and find love. Roxi was able to provide that love, devotion, and support to Decker. Fate brought them together but Guardian Angels and love propelled them into a future of happiness. Decker working for the Brotherhood brought closer to after life of a seal or special ops
Decker has been lost since his wife died, he's drowning in guilt and unable to see a way forward until he meets Roxi. She makes him see that he has been looking for himself all this time, because how can he be a soldier, a protector when he failed to save his wife? Roxi and Decker save each other, they both have more baggage than any one person should, and they both know that living is far harder than dying, but together they have something to fight for, a life to start living and oceans of love to give......good news for Otis! This is slightly different to previous Brotherhood Protectors books but is one of my favourite of the series.
Maybe it was fate, but Decker and Roxi met at the right time in their lives. Both were ready to move forward from the traumatic occurrences in their pasts.
I like their characters, and enjoyed how Otis took to Decker. I admired Roxi's strength in being able to take that leap with Decker. I think of this story as being a moment in time for Decker and Roxi.
A fast paced, short story. Two people taking a chance on romance. Full of sexy times, a hurricane, and a HEA.
When Ex-Seal Decker tries to get past the anniversary date of the worst day of his life - the day his wife was killed in an automobile accident - he needs to get over the guilt of being alive. Roxi is the owner of the local sport's bar, that he has feelings for but will not act on. But it takes one freak encounter to have the reader wondering who is saving who. With great characters that have so much baggage to get through and a storyline that kept the reader's interest from beginning to end this was a great read.
This book was short but had a good storyline. The storyline touched on loss, trauma, healing and love. Decker survived an accident that took the life of his wife. Roxi suffered a traumatic experience at a young age. She also lost her mom to cancer. Decker and Roxi were able to work through their losses and trauma, heal and find love with each other. I am glad Decker accepted work with Hank and will head up the East Coast Brotherhood Protectors from Cape Cod. I truly enjoyed reading this book and recommend it.
Well Done Ms Elle! Short Novellas sometimes have no substance or feel to rushed. No complaints here. This is a well done short story with the crime having been committed off camera so to speak. Hank makes a short appearance, and other than that its all about Roxie and Dexter, oh and Otis, lets not forget Otis. Made me smile and made my day. I received this arc from the author and voluntarily share my thoughts and opinions.
This book doesn't really fit with the "Brotherhood Protectors" series.
It is a very nice contemporary romance whose main male character has survivors guilt regarding his wife, NO MYSTERY, NO ADVENTURE, only a hurricane (they had sex the entire time and didn't know when the storm was over). I was looking for more good guys and gals versus some form of criminals or evil doers.
Cape Cod Seal Rescue is a quick romantic read. Decker and Roxi are great together. They both have a painful event from their past they haven't gotten over and through their undeniable attraction to each other they begin to heal. This was a fun read and I always love the addition of a loyal dog to a story.
This was a sweet, romantic, steamy read that I completely fell in love with. Read it in one night - once I started I didn't want to put it down! Decker and Roxi were perfect together. I really enjoyed their connection and chemistry. Well written and entertaining. A great addition to this series. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
I received an ARC Copy of this book and I chose to review it. I loved it. It is well written and worth your time and effort. It is the tenth book in this series and each one that I have read has been well written. This one is a quick easy read. Elle James is a favorite of mine and has been for a long time. You will get a great story when you see Elle James' name on a book.
Wonderful romance. Two people with tragic pasts moving forward to find love when neither was looking for it to happen. Decker and Roxi are great characters. Although its short, the characters are well developed and the story feels complete. The Brotherhood Protectors is a series worth reading. I voluntarily received this arc in exchange for an honest review.
There's not much of the Brotherhood Protectors in this book except for a brief visit Hank and Sadie pay to the Cape. Other than that you've got your wounded SEAL, the contradictory girl who seems strong but is actually so so vulnerable, and the twister of a storm that brings them together. It was very predictable, but well composed.
