The clock ticks for London... Arhyen is the self-declared finest thief in London. The mission was simple. Steal a journal from Fairfax Breckinridge, one of the greatest alchemists of the time. Arhyen hadn’t expected to find Fairfax himself, with a dagger in his back. Nor had he expected his automaton daughter, Liliana. Suddenly entrenched in a mystery too great for him to fully comprehend, he must rely on the help of a wayward detective, and an automaton who claims she has a soul, to piece together the clues laid before them. Will Arhyen uncover the true source of Liliana’s soul in time, or will London plunge into a dark age of nefarious technology, where only the scientific will survive? This boxed set Clockwork Alchemist, Clocks and Daggers, and Under Clock and Key.

I was gripped with curiosity from book one. I had to know how it ended. I read the three books in two days (ordered food deliveries). It's a great who done it. Kept me turning the pages. Liliana is an automaton (with feelings and emotions) and Arhyen is the thief. Lots of running, fighting, stabbing, and bleeding and explosives! There's a sweet love story going on that's done tastefully. And there are SO many bad men and women. The couple is continually lied to and back-stabbed. It's an emotional rollercoaster. Loved it.
The story was compelling enough to keep me reading the series. Occasionally the characters were clunky, and not in a typical "clockwork" way. Also, I sometimes felt that in the interest of arbitrary plot twists, characters and events were not easy to follow. While the main characters get their HEA, there were some strings left dangling. Fortunately, they were minor.
This is not usually the typical book I would normally read but it had me at automaton and kept my interest. It was a love story and mystery I could not put down I had to know if hamlet was a traitor and who else was automaton. Not to mention the maniacal sister and the horrible mother.
The title hooked me. I couldn’t put the trilogy down. I don’t want to give the plot away but it is a mind blower. I strongly recommend The Thief’s Apprentice. You will not be disappointed.
