"The hardest people to love are the ones who need it most."

Wow. Feral King was unexpected. An unlikely relationship to heal even the most broken person. This book was completely enthralling, heartbreaking, extreme, kinky and crazily hot. I loved every fucked-up moment. It was phenomenal.

A tragic childhood filled with abuse and neglect has created a man who is unbearably angry and uncivilised. Severin Leduc has limited interaction with the outside world. He barely tolerates the few who are family, preferring a life of solitude.

When Minnow Korsgaard is hired as a companion/handler, Severin is pissed. The last thing he needs is pity from a woman paid to serve him. Where numerous staff have come and gone, Minnow has no intention of being pushed away. Because when she should be frightened and intimidated by the snarling beast, she's turned on.

"She was so fucking perfect for men like them – soft and sensual, craving pain just as they craved inflicting it."

Although a dominant with limited experience, Severin instantly recognises the submissive in Minnow. She has his inner sadist salivating as she proves to be a willing participant in the lessons he likes to teach. Fortunately with the guidance from his best friend Rodrigo, he learns to take Minnow in hand and makes her completely his.

"Please, Master – don’t you want me?"

"I do. But anyone can fuck a woman’s body – fucking her mind is so much sweeter."

Feral King is the first book in this duet and it explores the relationship being built between Severin and Minnow. It was about them learning to trust, exploring the boundaries of s/m and acknowledging their needs. Severin may not be receptive, but he is screaming to be loved. And where Minnow is the submissive one, the strength, resilience and love displayed, proves that she is the rightful queen. The missing piece is Rodrigo which I’m hoping will complete their unit...

"It was the beast I fell in love with.

The prince would bore the fuck out of me."

"Don't run. You know what happens when you run."
This was an awesome surprise! Especially considering the amount of freebies I've been known to hoard download.

But as soon as I read dominant, tattooed brute in the blurb and saw it was shelved as menage, I had to get my pervy little hands on it . . . no matter if my GR friends were NOT unanimously convinced that it was any good.

Well, in my humble opinion, it was really good! The pages were filled with well-written, crazy, kinky, D/s goodness that was laced with humor.
"Your ass makes me crazy."

"You were crazy before my ass made an appearance, Mister Leduc."
Severin and Minnow (and occasionally Rodrigo) were ELECTRIC together. And I'm not just talking about their sexual chemistry . . . what makes this kind of book so good are the emotions that the author is able to get across to the reader.

Smut with depth - gotta love it.
"The hardest people to love are the ones who need it most."
I can definitely see why this is not a universally loved book though. There are some pretty hardcore S&M scenes in it, which is generally not my thing, but I didn't mind here because A) it was 100% consensual, B) there was no humiliation, and C) their emotional relationship was the focus.

But be warned there are a ton of triggers in this one.

This one is only for adventurous readers who love their kink. ;-) I'm off to read the sequel!

This was...
intense.

description

I consider myself to have a pretty decent tolerance and I was definitely uncomfortable with some of the aspects in this book.
Different strokes for different folks and all that... I get it.
And, I have GR friends that loved these books.
But, for me, this was beyond my threshold.
I would not recommend this book for anyone with pretty much any triggers at all.
Will I be reading the next book in this duology?

description

I don't even have an ounce of desire to read the second book in this duology.
I'm content with leaving this story after just the first book.
(And, that's saying something considering my hatred of leaving a series unfinished.)
I'm just gonna gently tuck this one away on my "read" shelf, call it an experience, and step away.

Um WHY ISNT THIS BOOK MORE TALKED ABOUT?
Also clean up on aisle 8 cause my heart is all over the FUCKING FLOOR.

At first I was like here goes another asshole who actually needs a babysitter. Turns out this asshole found a place in my heart and now he’s buried so deep in there that there’s no way to get him out. Loved this masterpiece of Sev and Minnow exploring their D/s relationship. Ro is also a nice lil side piece. Ugh.

Holy wet panties!!!

OMFG!! Wow just freaking WOW!!
This is definitely one of the HOTTEST books I have read so far this year!!
Severin and Minnow are freaking amazing together, now adding in Rodrigo in the next book I totally expect my mind to be blown!!
Sev is a total a**hole, he made me want to cuddle him and stab him simultaneously multiple times. Then you have Minnow who is just downright awesome.
I can't wait for book 2!!!!!

What an intense yet dark story !!!!!!!!!!!!! I loved the connection between Severin and Minnow in "Feral King (The Dominant Bastard Duology #1)"!

I can't wait to read the next book, "Tragic King (The Dominant Bastard #2)" and see how their story ends with or without Rodrigo or... Sev, going off the rails due to his past issues!

The first thing I want to make known about this book, is there is always consent. There are some intense moments, but holy mother of fuck are they amazing. If this was picked up by a random person, it may come off as…well um intense but as I said there is consent, so intense consent! Sev is really easy to fall in love with, in a love that makes you want to choke him if you got close enough. There is stubborn and then there is Sev, which stubborn is putting it nicely and in a way that if he was standing in front of me would still allow me to sit the next day. However, as I progressed through the book it made sense, in a sad way. The sad that makes you want to hunt down all the piece of shit people in is life and kill them with paper-cuts so it’s slowly sort of death. Yes, that is how involved this book gets inside your head. The way you first meet him leaves you thinking, there is no way he has redeeming qualities, he is just a dick. I am not going to lie he is a dick, but a good dick (pun intended). If you get frustrated keep going, it isn’t one where the entire book you are wondering why the fuck is Minnow with him. She is also a submissive masochist, my kindred spirit, with a smart mouth and a backbone. I do love a little fight in my submissives in books, even ones that like that play jumprope with that line of being a bit of a brat. It’s easy to relate to. Minnow, man I feel bad for her school days, is a great character and one I could be friends with. At first you think one thing and then puzzle pieces fall into place and then you are ashamed at yourself for jumping to some conclusions. Well my conclusions weren’t bad but they weren’t right and she deserved better. She has been through so much, alone, that you can’t help but wonder why she always keeps trying. It’s hard to do things alone but do be alone because of how she was, that’s just amazing.

I also enjoyed that this book showed not everyone magically knows BDSM or even knows everything. I get super annoyed at BDSM books when the guy has had zero or little introduction but is a master of all things BDSM. No one knows everything and any character in a book that acts like that, I instantly stop reading. Sev doesn’t and is new in so many ways I’m not going to spoil. One of his most amazing character traits – he admits it. When he needs to he ask questions, he does research, he involves others to help, all things I love.

There are scenes in this book I wish I could say more about but for you to fully understand them and appreciate them, I won’t. However, I will say two words “nipple piercing.” Trust me when you get it, anytime anyone mentions those two words it will make you think of this book and make you all of the sudden very aroused. Sadly I am also currently a victim of edging because the next book doesn’t come out until September 19, 2017 and I need it now. So now I am all on edge and cursing the gods because it seems so far away to read more about Sev and yes of course Minnow, but more Sev…

While reading
This book is going to give me a heart attack😂😂😂😂😂 omg my heart is racing at every word.....the tension is killing me

She needed a Neanderthal to English translator.
😂😂😂if this isn't solid gold I don't know what is

Final review
*******
Minnow is estranged from her family and barely making ends meet, she's approached to care for who she believes is an elderly man and agrees. The beast in his secluded home in the woods was the last thing she expected

*******
Random thoughts
D/s with a masochist h,
h has experience in kink
H is rude, grumpy and hates being touched. We learn later of his childhood abuse
The H shares the h with his best friend who's set to join the relationship in the next book. Here he more of a friend with benefits. I do not like MMF if one male is entering a relationship that was already established. We get a lot of time with the H/H together obviously in a relationship so I wondered how the friend would fit in. Because it's clear that their is something between the H and his friend this set up actually worked well.
Eh, after a while the sexy times sucked

All in all this one worked well enough though by the end it was a bit tired of it. I think this was mainly due to the lackluster sexy times....the true test of this book however is the fact that it's a duet. Now if you follow me you'll know I rarely find multiple books necessary but in this case a second book is definitely needed. The writing was well done especially as a third is being added to the relationship, as it's 2 books we get enough build up so his eventual inclusion wouldn't feel abrupt or unnecessary.

No cheating
H has never had sex, he was sexually abused as a child and hates to bevv
The best friend/H#2 to be was experienced in the kink scene but he has been celibate a year....though we meet 2 women coming out his house.
The h is experienced and actually had Doms before. Even as a sub she definitely wasn't a doormat
H lets his friend have sex with h before he does....I admit I didn't like that

Really liked it.
Hot, steamy and a very interesting read.
I deducted for all the editing errors.

Well shit. GR has finally changed my book page to the All New Crap Page that none of us wanted.
Not only that, but books I know I have already marked as Owned has the owned check mark disappearing. Other problems showing up on my shelves too.
Wonder how many books will disappear this time or suddenly not show up properly.

I'm writing this review for both books as it's a two book story.

This book like a lot of this authors books pushed my boundaries. Namely my comfort levels with slave, total power exchange relationships. In saying that, this book was deliciously spicy.

The first half of this story for me was definitely more about the MF relationship of Severin and Minnow with the other M, Rodrigo added in for sex so for me it didn't really feel like a MFM relationship as such. It's not until part two that we really get the MMF relationship going which I really really loved. Two really hot doms, what's not to love? Plus the two guys together was a complete smoke show.

I never thought reading a scene about piercings could be so friggin hot or a mother fucking brand...like burn your skin brand but here we are. Two of the hottest scenes which made me equally uncomfortable and turned on 😂 which is funny because I'm terrified of both those things but a credit to the author for writing them in a way that seemed romantic (just trust me)

The only part of the story that annoyed me was towards the end, I felt like Severin was a total shit and while he's a bastard for all of the story (it's hot for the most part) he was especially awful and it made the story drag a bit and I wanted to punch him.

Highly recommend if you want to push your boundaries on a MMF total power exchange romance with a lot of kinky fuckery but still a great character/relationship driven story.

Wow! I had forgotten how well Sparrow Beckett can write. I was blown away by Feral King and realized I had better write the review of it before I got too far into the sequel Tragic King and couldn't keep track of what happened where or when. Minnow goes to work for Severin Leduc, a man who is almost feral after having been abandoned to servants when he was five. Minnow is supposed to help his socialize and they eventually joke that she's his "service human." Eventually, she becomes a "full service human" as Severin is extremely dominant and a sadist and Minnow is a submissive masochist. Also in the mix is Severin's conviction that he should never allow anyone to get close to him because they will inevitably leave. His evidence, besides his birth family, is that his foster mother and then his housekeeper/mother figure both die. This is a seriously damaged human being and Minnow is incredibly brave to stay with him and try to help him, even before they begin a sexual relationship.

Then we add a third to the couple in the form of Severin's friend Rodrigo who is almost as dominant and sadistic as Severin and under carefully controlled circumstances, Severin is willing to share.

The journey these three take as they discover who they are and what they are to each other is absolutely fascinating and enthralling. Sparrow Beckett write extremely well. (No, that's not a grammatical error, Sparrow Beckett is two people.) Severin and Minnow are fully realized and we see them both, if not clearly, then through the appropriate lens.

One of the other things I particularly like is Beckett's turn of phrase:

He decided not to gesture at this cock, which, right then, had to be composing a note to the complaints department of Severin's twisted mind.

Surely his dick disowned him as he walked away from her invitation.

She was overwhelmed and underfucked. Hell, she needed that written on a god damned T-shirt.

All in all, a great story of one seriously damaged man and the people who love him. And the second part is off to a great start, too.

This was a really good book. I enjoyed the submissive masochist and dominant sadist dynamics between Minnow and Sev. Ro added another layer of depth to their relationship as well.

There were times when the plot seemed to go on forever and several times I almost didn't finish reading it, but somehow Beckett kept me absorbed.

I most likely won't read the next book in the series
because I believe Maybe that really was the missing piece for me.

Nonetheless it was a good read.

Pros
- very steamy, if you’re into that kind of thing
- I think the characterization was strong
- I liked how difficult topics were handled in this
- the writing was strong
Cons
- felt somewhat meandering. I didn’t very feel like I had a good sense of how time was moving outside of the major temporal events like Christmas.
- there’s not a lot of plot to this. Tied into the above point, I wanted more of through line
- it did feel like it just kind of ended without much of a climax or conclusion. Minnow was being edged in the book and I was being edged by this plot.

I will read the next book because I did like the characters and writing but this wasn’t a favorite for me.

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

Holy Mother….what have they done to me? I am totally and forever ruined by Sev. He owns a piece of my soul…and Sadists scare the ever-loving crap outta me. #WhatHappened????

Ok so here goes…….I loved that there are references to Beauty and the Beast in this book because honestly THAT is a true representation of these two flawed individuals.

Sev….*Sigh* If I thought he might let me curl up in his lap I would and try to make all the hurt go away buuuut remember he is a sadist and well he kinda digs the pain. He is so closed off and afraid to let people in. When he loves, he does it fierce and with all the loyalty he has. When he begins to let our Minnow in, and he tells his story….the anguish you feel and the hurt you have. You my reaction is the same as Minnows. I was ready to cut a B!!!

Minnow is the most amazing person. She meets Sev and is drooling immediately but she can feel the Dominant in him. She is a moth to his flame. She is all for it and pushes him not knowing all his history. When he finally accepts her into his heart, holy sweet Jesus!!! The ballroom will never be the same!! *Snickers because you have no clue what I am talking about!*

Now the two of them have a trusty side kick names Ro. I FLOVE him. He is the right person to help our H/h get together *snickers again* . He is the perfect fit of friend and tag team partner for the couple plus there is an under lying need there he has to have a connection much like Sev and Minnow.

The end of the book is a bit of a cliffy….we are left with some of Sev’s past coming back to haunt him. So we need to know if Sev and Minnow are strong enough to weather this storm together or will Sev’s fear and past force him to push her and is best friend away.

Let me get it out of the way first... the book ends suddenly, like WHAM, I need me some warning it's going to be a duet/continuation, my heart is set on happily ever afters! And then I was only given 87% of the story, I don't want a free "novella" at the end, thank you, I want 100% of a book.

So that's out of the way. This book was a SURPRISE. Not gonna lie, I saw it scrolling past on my GR feed and the word Feral caught my eye. A grumpy hero.. yes please! The BDSM storyline took me completely by surprise, a gorgeous surprise as it turns out to be. I thought it was just going to be a sedate housekeeper tale. This was both hot, sexy, cute and funny, I laughed a lot through and loved all three of the main characters, (I'm counting the best friend Rodrigo as a main character, he featured a lot and I'd love his book ) the heroine was a perfect match for this bear of a recluse, and when we got his backstory you understand the way he is. He's boorish, not just borderline rude, he's a total rude asshole, but I was so endeared towards him from the get go.

The bloody cliffhanger aside ( grrrr and grrrrrrr! ) I was caught up in this tale, it is hardcore BDSM so if you're a pearl clutcher maybe this isn't for you. I for one loved it because the hero as grumpy as he was, was a possessive asshole I love to read about.

“You don’t ignore my woman when she speaks to you, and you never fucking touch her – understand?”

“Miss Korsgaard, when a man gifts you with the blood of your enemies, you’re supposed to be flattered.”

“You’re the most important person in my life. I’ll respect you enough for both of us until you catch up, okay?”

This is a great book, with dark and shattered hero and the woman who is helping himself put himself back together.

Severin was abandoned by his birth family when he was 5. They bought him a house and not only sent him there, they made sure that the house was in an entirely different country, surrounded by people who didn't speak French. He was scared and turned into a feral boy. When a woman and her son came to his house, they became his family. When she died, he shut down, but another woman took her place. That woman, Sutton, wanted to find a companion for Severin, someone to act as his "service human". In walks Minnow, and before you ask, that really was her real name, hippie parents do things like that.

Minnow has done caretaker work for other people, but when Sutton hires her to be the caretaker for Severin, she never tells her that Severin is in his 30s. Minnow spends a lot of time being ignored by Severin until he finally acknowledges her. He trips all her circuits because she is a sub and likes a dominant man, which Severin is.

Severin is afraid of the things he wants to do, Minnow convinces him it's OK to feel and do those things. With the help of his friend, Ro, there is a lot of exploration.

Great story, great characters with a lot of layers and depth. Severin is a real bastard part of the time, but as you learn more of his story, you learn why he acts and feels that way, and then you want to be very angry at the people who hurt him that way. Minnow is an incredibly strong woman in and of herself, and how much she puts up with when it comes to Severin is almost staggering, but she manages to keep going and still love him.

My feeling progression:

Beauty and the Beast with a virgin hero that can't stand being touched!?!?!?

Severin making her go skinny dipping

What did you say you'll make her do after your tattoo?!?

Oh! He's edging her. Okay, I'll just wait then

How much longer?

Hurray...

What else is supposed to happen?

I guess I should explain all that with more words 😅

How did I miss writing a review for this one?? Fudgemynut.

It's been awhile, per my usual, so this is brief: I LOVED this story, all the characters, all the sex, the angst, the whole "heal the beast by letting him whip your ass trope" -- all fab!! I was nervous book 2 would flop, but nope - also fab.

There's a scene in this - forget now if it's in book 1 or 2 - that had me reconsidering a RL hard limit. I lurve when that happens heehee

This is a re-read for me, and now I remember why I loved this book so much!!!

This book is filled with so many things. It's got BDSM and MFM scenes, it's funny, it's heartbreaking, it's dark and twisted, and it's just absolute perfection!

You can't help but love Severin. He's got such a broken past with this family. It's awful. Minnow is the perfect match for him. She is patient with him and goes above and beyond to show him care and love. Add in some Rodrigo, and you have just amazingness. He's such a great best friend and such an added bonus to this story.

So freaking good!!

I am a huge fan of the writing team known as Sparrow Beckett! They really know how to get my BDSM loving heart pounding 😁.

Severin is such a fantastic, broken, beastly sadist. I want to heal him, but understand no have to leave that to Min, lol.
Minnow is an ideal submissive. Sweeter than sweet, playfully snarky, but no doormat is she.
And Ro? Mmmmm. Deliciously dominant, but I can't wait to see if book two tells us more about what kind of switch he is.

On to The King!

Sev is deliciously sadistic and Minnow is a strong willed masochist. My favorite combination! Add in Ro and the combination becomes hotter. The subtle glances and innuendo between the two men was so well done. Everything in this book worked for me and I can't wait to read the next one.
