As an elite mech jockey in the United Galactic Alliance, Commander Herra Daskana was a savior to many. Sent on perilous mission across galaxies, there was never any time to wonder if she herself was in need of saving. From the moment, she laid eyes on the lithe, blue-haired, Arune, thoughts of have someone special, of her own emerged, even if only for one very expensive night.
Arune may have appeared to be a high-priced whore, but he was far from it. After experiencing a harrowing brush with death, the Elgeruan prince searched across primitive worlds for a fierce protector and Commander Daskana more than fulfilled that need. From the moment he laid eyes on the ferocious, dark-skinned soldier, he was willing to use every weapon at his disposal to possess her.
Through mistrust, conspiracy and certainly manipulation, theirs was a relationship doomed even as it blossomed…certainly before the threat of an all-out war!
To read about a dominant female without a BDSM angle was so refreshing. Especially for a the Sci-Fi romance genre. I really enjoyed this. It was very slow paced at the start, but once it picked up it had a lot of high octane action.
I am going to read this book a second time, that is how much I loved it! It seems to me that with today’s sci-fi romance or space Odyssey romance there isn’t enough a strong female roles; strong to the point of being Alpha females. I believe that this author has become a maverick in this new idea of super Alpha females. I hope that with this book many will be in chanted and inspired by this idea… Her idea! This is the first time that I have read such a wonderful exciting heart wrenching steamy novel with so much character and setting I cannot praise this book enough! I am going to keep reading all of the authors books I love her erotica but I would say that this book is beyond simple erotica it has a lot more to give to the reader! Please read this book I will definitely recommend this book to anyoneWho loves a little Syfy a little erotic a little space Odyssey adventures strong Alpha females and sexy heroes as well!
When I say this book is fire, y'all I'm not playing. The first part of this book is truly erotic (not for the faint-hearted or prudes). The gender role reversal of Herra and Arune is fascinating. Herra is a bad a$$ chic that's a leader of an elite force and dominant protector, while Arune is a submissive...well you gotta read the book to figure him out. However once you get past the erotica, the action and mystery will hype up any sci-fi fan. My brain was in overdrive picturing the action.
This is a unique story with swapped gender roles for the male and female protagonists.
It's a little jarring a first (if you're not used to reading about 'feminine' males, that is), but as the story goes on, you begin to see and understand their dynamic a bit more. I won't divulge any spoilers but things aren't as set in stone as they initially appear.
The writing is fantastic, as well. That really stood out for me. Mya Lairis can WRITE. Also, the world-building is incredible too. It made me want to read more stories set in this space-opera-style setting.
While I liked the role reversal in this book — great love scenes — the storyline was just too slow and in the end boring. A lot of showing with small amounts of dialogue.
It's different if nothing else. Arune is a humanoid royal looking for his siridia, an advisor, protector and bedmate. Herra is an elite soldier looking for physical release. They meet after she finished a mission and was in a bar avoiding reporting in due to her mid-battle decision to lead some civilians to safety instead of joining her crew right away for support in the battle. Arune lets Herra think he's a pleasure worker to get her to his rooms to test her out for siridia. His role is that of a servant in addition to lover but he wants to show Herra that he can do certain domestic tasks. Herra has scant knowledge of Arune's people and is unaware of his motives. Arune is more submissive sexually than is Herra who's aggressive and knows what she wants and is eager to get it. They have a bit of a falling out when Arune's intentions are revealed but danger means hard feelings don't last long, at least in the case of Herra since she's called on to protect Arune.
There was a lot of action which was very entertaining, particularly once Herra sends Arune away for his protection. The bracelet that Arune gave Herra was a particular favorite of mine. I liked the world building but think it could've used a bit more. There are spelling and grammatical errors that detract. Herra and Arune's chemistry could use some help to make it more believable. Overall, it's more a 2.5 I think.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. Arune, Herra, and the entire universe that the Author constructed was absolutely fascinating. I will admit that the swapped gender roles in the beginning was a bit offputting. I am all for an alpha female but the meekness and femininity of Arune wasn't attractive to me. I had a hard time getting into the couple at first. Once he started to show his own alpha side and was willing to take care and watch over her in a capacity that was similar to her own did I warm up to him. With all of that aside, I did enjoy the book. Once the true action started, it didn't stop and I devoured the book with enthusiasm.
The political intrigue was well done. I definitely found myself anxious to get back to the book to find out what was going on between the planetary factions and what the MMC was hiding from the FMC.
The final battle scene was very well laid out if a bit overlong.
There were also a lot of spelling and grammatical errors, but it didn't take me out of the story.
The spice! THE SPICE! This book was so hot y'all. 🥵
Let's start with the good points...the author can create an amazing Syfy story. It was just the way she wrote the character Herra she described as being masculine and Arune was effeminate ...she brought him a dress...I don't think I will be reading anything else by this author.
