If I'm being honest I don't know in which genre I would put this book. It's a fantasy, but it's also a paranormal romance and a sci-fi. And I love that. I love that it's more than one genre. Although it was advertised to me as a fantasy and that got me excited after reading the blurb I notice all the other aspects and that got me even more curious.
I love starting a new series and this one made me have some nostalgic feelings. Abbey's book reminded me why I still love Fantasy, Paranormal and Sci-fi so much. Her take on the Alien concept combining it with the supernatural abilities and powers gave the book it's own unique concept, and adding the writing style, the storyline and the romance, it was a win book for me.
In this book we follow the life of Bree, the female main character, as she finds out she something more than a plain human being. And she's a single mom, which makes the book a lot different from others in the genre. If we read a Contemporary Romance about a single mom finding love, we don't think twice, but that happens in a fantasy/paranormal novel, it's different, refreshing and it makes the plot even more interesting.
The book had a good pace to it. The action moved along and we got pushed into the rollercoaster of the drama and action filled scenes, that kept me curious to know who was behind all that and what were their motives. As a hopeless romantic I love when people get in the way of love and in the end love conquers all. To me it makes the relationship sound stronger because they had to fight for it, and most of the time it means character developing and it means the plot thickens.
Since it's a series, of course some things are left unanswered for now and that aren't explored fully. That leaves stones to turn and mysteries to uncover, character to know better and to see develop more and action moments to read about and get our adrenaline pumping. And that's what Abbey did with her book. She left me wondering and curious to read the next book.
I loved the characters. I love Bree and the fact that she was a mom and that she has to think of her actions and need because she has to protect her daughter, and that comes first. Then there is Quinn, and he was quite... I don't even know... It's the descriptions I'm sure. Abbey did an amazing job with creating the characters and giving them life with the descriptions and the interactions and of course, in Quinn's and Bree's case, their relationship is 'bound' to be.
I do recommend this book. If you are looking for a book that has roots in different genres and that talks about a single, strong and determine, mom while she tries to figure out who she really is while falling in love to a handsome alien... Then this is the book for you.
