Enid Mary Blyton (1897–1968) was an English author of children's books.
Born in South London, Blyton was the eldest of three children, and showed an early interest in music and reading. She was educated at St. Christopher's School, Beckenham, and - having decided not to pursue her music - at Ipswich High School, where she trained as a kindergarten teacher. She taught for five years before her 1924 marriage to editor Hugh Pollock, with whom she had two daughters. This marriage ended in divorce, and Blyton remarried in 1943, to surgeon Kenneth Fraser Darrell Waters. She died in 1968, one year after her second husband.
Blyton was a prolific author of children's books, who penned an estimated 800 books over about 40 years. Her stories were often either children's adventure and mystery stories, or fantasies involving magic. Notable series include: The Famous Five, The Secret Seven, The Five Find-Outers, Noddy, The Wishing Chair, Mallory Towers, and St. Clare's.
According to the Index Translationum, Blyton was the fifth most popular author in the world in 2007, coming after Lenin but ahead of Shakespeare.
Read- August 2019 for The N.E.W.Ts (My E in Divination) - I'm so happy that they have made collections of Enid Blyton's short stories. I read a lot of them as a child but they weren't easy to find.
This book has 30 stories to read in the summertime. I enjoyed my vacation by reading this book. There were many magical characters like pixies, brownies, imps, and many more. My favourite characters were Impy the Imp and MR Twiddle. In some stories, I learned morals too. My favourites were going out picnics in the sunshine, outdoor adventures and the enjoyment of summertime! I am glad that I read this book during my summertime holidays.
I love Enid Blyton stories and our kids have always enjoyed these as read aloud. I've been saving this collection of short stories for a summer read but the ones in this particular collection just weren't grabbing us in the same way some of her other works have done. We all sort of felt a bit "meh" about it. LOVE the collection of Christmas stories. Those kept us thoroughly entertained. These? Not so much. But we persisted and rejoiced upon completion! ;)
Wonderful, very short stories that I read as the summer is ending, which I thought was fitting. The stories are often fun and very funny and teach lessons.
