What a sensational thriller as Ozzie and Alex go to Hawaii, land of relaxation, wealth and beauty! Ozzie is helping a friend by assisting in security which gives them a gorgeous condo to stay in, with swimming, scuba diving in coral reefs and enough entertainment to keep Nicole ,Mackenzie and Alex's kids happy. But can our FBI and PI friend ever keep themselves out of the action!?!
Greed has taken hold of the fishing community, with certain captains working for an entity that uses fear and slavery to get what they want! The group of friends, Alex and kids, Ozzie with Nicole and his daughter, go to see a great friend of Mackenzies' from when she lived on the island. There seems to be a strange tension in the air when the girls father arrives, then BOOM....
The house is bombed, turned to rubble and a lovely vacation transforms into hell on the island...When Alex spots a figure leaving a prostitutes apartment, she needs to blink several times...Already she was having trouble in her relationship with Brad, going on vaca without him, but this sight tears her apart...
Can Alex and Ozzie live through major betrayal and attacks while trying to right all wrongs...far from home without regular people to help them..And the kids..will they all be ok?!
Amazing scenes with our favorite characters, with gut clenching moments and scares from all around...Will our favorite crime fighters actually make it out this time?? You HAVE to read this arresting adventure as things are NOT always as they seem...
I received an ARC from author John Mefford, who delivers his usual outstanding tale with optimal scenes and insight..I put my thoughts and reactions in this review to open the Redemption Thrillers to readers from everywhere!! 5 STARS*****

Redemption Thriller #23

Alex Trout Thriller #11

Alex and Ozzie always have been the biggest magnets for danger even on a Hawaiian vacation they manage to find themselves in the middle of a deadly encounter with the Yakuza. The theme of this installment is kidnapping, corruption and murder. Who else but our two best protagonists could save the day.

Talk about a nail-biting and edge of your seat suspense. Most of the book holds the excitement as we follow these two discovering that not all who appeared friendly can be trusted….seems even the authority can be corrupted. This story has many twists and turns and trying to figure out who are the good guys and who are the bad guys has kept me guessing till the very end. This is a roller-coaster ride from start to finish.

What a master storyteller, Mr. Mefford knows how to draw you into his story line and never letting you go. He does an outstanding job of making you part of his protagonists’ world in a wild fast-paced way. So much going on: body parts washing up on shore, house blowing up, acquaintance being kidnapped, and fingers being chopped off…. Just a few macabre encounters….

To spice things up Brad Alex’s boyfriend shows up adding turmoil to a shaky relationship. More drama to absorb….and this is so well played out.

I love the story, I love the style, I love the characters but again I love a well thought out thrillers….Mr. Mefford delivers all of this. Well-done.

Mr. Mefford gives us hints that the Alex Trout series is coming to an end with the next installment. Although this will happen I am not worried. He has written sub-series in which characters from different book appear in other novels. Alex will still be active and there to captivate us….hopefully

Alex still reeling from the loss of a loved one, and what she perceived as a betrayal by her significant other, along with Ozzie and their family visited Hawaii for a much-needed vacation. Alex being a magnet for danger would soon find that what was supposed to be a time of healing and retrospection became a moment riddled with danger. While investigating, Alex and Ozzie made a discovery that shook them to come. As they for deeper to gain answers, they would find themselves at death’s door. Will they make it out alive or will this be the end for everything that Alex holds dear?

Kidnapping, corruption and murder along with the Yakuza involvement was the central themes of this installment.
Talk about nail-biting and edge of your seat suspense, At Deaths Door had it all. In the last seventy percent of the book, I could barely hold my excitement as the story unfolded. I was nervous for both Alex and Ozzie especially when they discovered that not all who appeared friendly could be trusted.

There were points in the story where the pacing slowed but it did not prevent me from enjoying it one bit as I knew it would only be a short stint. In fact, I completed this book in one sitting, which is the norm when I pick up one of Mefford’s books.

From a personal and emotional aspect regarding Alex’s life there was a point in the story where I was a bit disappointed with her actions. I understood that she felt betrayed but after the revelation of the truth instead of harboring feelings of empathy; she held on to bitterness, which was unnecessary. I am glad she came to her senses although it took her teenage daughter coupled with her being at death door for her to see the light.

Conclusion/Recommendation
Fans of mysteries, thrillers and suspense would love this latest offering from Medford. At Deaths Door offered a suspenseful ride coupled with the personal growth and emotional turmoil of Alex Trout.

Alex and her family get caught in a gang's fight while on vacation. Even on Hawaii, Alex can't just have a nice quiet vacation. Ozzie is also there and it's a good thing. They are going to need each other to hopefully keep everyone from being killed. Then there is a huge, and I mean huge shock to Alex's system when she sees a figure leaving a prostitutes' apartment. Like she doesn't already have a full plate, and now this?! How cruel can Mefford get to Alex? What am I talking about? You will need to read the book to find out.

Finally – after constant and tedious work as detectives, agents and parents, Alex Troutt and Ozzie Novak are taking their families on vacation to scenic, beautiful Hawaii. They’re going to meet up with some friends and have a nice quiet time to relax and recover from the harrowing events that they have survived protecting American citizens from peril. Only, trouble follows Alex and Ozzie wherever they go, and this is no exception. Alex and her family get caught in the middle of a gang war, and there are murders, shootouts, explosions, drugs and murder. Ozzie, of course, gets involved, and they are on a whirlwind adventure that totters on the brink of life and death. Get ready, because the twists and turns are fast, and Alex is in for some revelations on a personal level as well.

This 11th installment in the Alex Troutt series continues to build on the relationship between characters, deliver the suspense, mystery and drama that John W. Mefford is becoming infamous for, and also tell us a brand-new story. Every single book can stand alone, but together they are like an awesome mini-series that you cannot stop binge watching. I want Alex and Brad to win, but the odds seem stacked against it; I want Alex, Ozzie to have a break; but I also want them on the case when something goes amiss. These are characters that you fall in love with and anticipate the next time you can be with them again.

***I got this book free in exchange for my honest review

Another new thrilling adventure!

AT Death’s Door is the 11th installment in the Alex Troutt Thriller series. A detailed packed thrill with a new adventure that you don’t want to miss. The plot surges forward, pulling you along as you turn the pages a mile a minute. It promises to keep readers up reading into the night. Mefford’s writing is smooth, absorbing and always interesting. There is enough surprise twists and turns to satisfy any enthusiast. Mefford’s skill in plotting drama and crime that can turn on a dime is as sharp here as in his previous works. The characters are well developed with a crisp dialogue that moves the story smartly along. AT Death’s Door will keep fans happy while showing he is one of the masters of crime suspense.

Once again, Mefford does not disappoint! John W Mefford knows how to bring a story to life, give you a thrill and keep your attention. He is a very talented writer that I have come to enjoy and look forward to what he comes up with next. John does a great job of intertwining the characters from his different series. This author is definitely high up on my go-to author list. It is hard to go wrong with a John Mefford book and AT Death’s Door is one of those that will keep you up late at night, seeking to read just one more chapter. Mefford combines mystery, crime, humor, and drama for a compelling crime thriller.

What in the world did I just read!?

That was messed up, crazy, chaotic, suspenseful, thrilling – what!?

The family is finally getting their “family vacation” but wouldn’t you know; Alex and Ozzie can’t seem to go anywhere without finding themselves in some sort of trouble. Even a vacation ends up scary!

During our Ozzie reads, we ran into some colorful characters in Hawaii when he was rescuing his daughter. We are reminded of some criminal behavior on the island and meet up with these colorful characters again in AT Death’s Door.

This installment kept me on the edge of my seat trying to figure out who each player was; who was on what team; and what all was happening. It was definitely a thrill!

AT Death’s Door did not disappoint and I cannot wait to get to the next installment although I am broken hearted that the series is coming to a close. This entire series has been a thrill ride from beginning to end and have got to be some of the best suspense/thrill reads I have read to date!

Alex, Ozzie and families decide to take an amazing vacation in Hawaii and meet up with friends from the past. Unfortunately an attempted murder and a house explosion ruin their vacation! As they're trying to wrap their heads around it a friend goes missing and someone from their past shows up on the island.

Is the yakuza at fault? Or is someone else running the show?

As always, Mr. Mefford is the master of mystery and of very well-timed plot twists. This book literally can't be put down once you get hooked!

This is an amazing continuation of the series, and I'm waiting rather impatiently for the next book!

I have volunteered to share my review and all the opinions are 100% my own.

This is a powerful addition to the Redemption series. A family vacation in a tropical paradise - what could be better? Unfortunately, paradise doesn't last long for Alex as she's thrown into a world where greed is only the tip of the iceberg. The lengths that some will go to in the name of profit are only matched by the lengths Alex will go to in the name of justice.

Alex and Ozzie only thought they would be getting some good ol' rest and relaxation. This Hawaiian trip turns out to be another dangerous mystery to solve for the crew. I just love these characters and how they handle B-U-S-I-N-E-S-S. Lots of twists and turns. Incredibly hard to put down, as usual!

After the shocking events in the last book, Alex, Ozzie, Nicole and the kids take a vacation to Hawaii. Peace, relaxation and visiting Mackenzie's old friends are on the agenda, but nothing ever goes that smooth. We are 23 books into the redemption series, so why on earth did I think Mefford would cut them a little slack.

Ozzies helps out his friend Keo with a security job leaving Alex, Nicole and the kids to visit Mackenzie friend. When visiting friends things literally explode! Good god how many times can poor Alex be involved with explosions!? she must be a cat with nine lives! From that moment their vacation takes a hellish turn, with Alex and Ozzie getting involved with a stake out that leads to an unexpected face turning up at the house of a prostitute. I was literally in shock at this appearance and can only imagine the hurt and pain that Alex felt at the same time!

I knew there had to be a rational explanation for them being on the island, and whilst I was right I am still shaken by the events that transpired, far from home with no support in a corrupt law enforcement how can Alex and Ozzie (and their loved ones) get out of this alive? You will just have to read AT Death's Door to find out...

I really would have loved to give this one 5 stars, but I reserve them for special times. And when I was done with this one - apparently the next-to-last book in his Redemption Series - I had to look. Yes, I would go after the next one and conclude the series. But was this one all that special?

I had to reserve my rave. It wasn't five star quality - and he's written some of those. I was most bothered by what is a writer's issue. One expects that if a book switches points of view between protagonists that you would switch at every chapter. Oddly enough, however, there were at least a few times where that didn't happen and it was disconcerting. It was a "wait, which character is this" moment a few times and I found it took away from the story.

Add to that, the once tough as nails Alex Troutt has become a softer, more emotional character caught up in doubts. Ozzie Novak had been a three dimensional character, with an odd issue around his hearing - but that's completely missing.

I have to wonder if the rush to conclusion and the rapid pace of the book releases is causing the author to leave some things behind. Not his best.

FBI Agent Alex Troutt and her children and her best friend, Ozzie and his wife Nicole, and his daughter Mackenzie, finally get a chance to vacation in Hawaii. Everyone is so excited to be in “paradise.” The only downside is that Alex and her boyfriend are not on speaking terms, and Brad hasn’t joined the family in this adventure. Ozzie is working on a special security project at a very important function, protecting the very elite. However, while at the function, the Mayor is shot. So this beautiful paradise, appears to be something other than what it really is. While trying to scope out who is behind the murder, Ozzie and Alex happen to see Brad in Hawaii. What’s he doing in Hawaii? Will Alex find out why Brad is in Hawaii? Will they find who is responsible for the murder of the Mayor? What is the motive for the murder? It’s difficult to trust anyone. Is the police department involved? Is there a Hawaiian Mafia behind all of the killings and body parts showing up on beaches, etc.? Everything is not always as it seems!! If you like an intriguing mystery, corruption, people being held captive on fishing vessels, you will enjoy this book.

Set on the beautiful Island of Hawaii, Alex, Ozzie and their families arrive for a vacation, but needless to say, this is not a relaxing stay on a beautiful Island. Oh no, the author makes sure that they get mixed up in all sorts of trouble, including being in a house that is blown up, a kidnapping, a local politician being assassinated and corrupt local police and this is all in the first quarter of the book!
John Mefford's books have brilliant plots, exceptional characters and lots and lots of surprises, there are always twists which sneak up on you and suddenly take the story in a completely unexpected direction. This book is no exception.
I also think that the writing is very clever in that although it is useful to have read the previous books in the series, there is enough context that this makes a great stand-alone read, but please do yourself a favour and read the others, the journey they take you on is breathtaking!
I received an advance copy of the book, but have voluntarily written this review.

Alex Troutt and Ozzie Novak have taken their families to Hawaii for a long awaited vacation. Ozzie had agreed to work a security gig in order to get a plush condo for everyone to share. But as Ozzie works security, a well-known politician is murdered. Then during a stakeout, Alex and Ozzie uncover a secret that’s closer to home for both of them. In trying to make sense of what they see, it draws them in more danger with each move they make. It’s going to take all their resources to keep them alive.

I love how this story made full circle. Alex and Ozzie make a great team. As always Mefford has woven an intricate story full of interesting characters. With the plot being in Hawaii I expected a lot of visual descriptions, as well as a paradise aura, but that wasn’t the case. I came away with an anxiety complex of going there, although I’m sure that wasn’t the intention. I hate that this series is almost over, but, I am also excited for the finale when everything comes together.

Mefford’s latest book in the Alex Troutt series is another hit. He brought all the great character’s together with a story that has twist and turns, murder and mystery and a little love and family as well. As you are reading his stories, you get caught up with all the character’s and feel like you're part of the story. He certainly doesn’t disappoint you in his storylines and is very good at writing all about the good and bad guys.

This one takes place in Hawaii where it should be paradise but things get in the way and sure enough Alex and Ozzie get caught up in the seedy part of paradise. Once again, Alex has to fights for what she believes in even when she is questioning her boyfriend’s loyalty and love. Not only does she have to fight for her life and others, but finds out she can’t trust even the FBI. You will not be disappointed in this wonderful, suspenseful book in the Alex Troutt series. I can’t wait to the next one comes out.

Paradise but not really

Hawaii sounds like a dream but for Alex this vacation is a nightmare. Her relationship is rocky and while there it appears to take a turn for the worse. There are bombs, deliberate amputations, murder and kidnappings.

Ozzie and Alex are together with family and vacationing, but they quickly are called to solve some cases to figure out what is going on and why all the facts don’t add up. This is a fast paced story with a lot of moving parts that don’t all come together until the end and man...when they do it is brilliant.

I enjoyed this book and seeing Ozzie and Alex in action to find answers and protect their loved ones. The ending threw me as I did not see that discovery of a bad person..though even during that shock and stressful scene I was smiling bc Alex is a bada**! I am excited for the next book, but not excited for this series to end.

"The most dangerous thing is illusion."
The long awaited, and much needed, dual family holiday has arrived at last, time to enjoy the exotic shores of Hawaii, a place already familiar for Ozzie and his daughter, and he has secured for the group a luxurious villa, free of charge, payment for helping out a friend with a few hours of security at a reception. For Alex there is the hint of sadness as Brad has been left behind, her trust in him still shaken after, what still feels to her, his betrayal. Time, though, to relax and revive, for Luke and Erin to swim and have innocent fun and for Mackenzie to catch up with an old friend.

Well, that was the plan. But it didn't quiet happen like that...
I'm still breathless after finishing the latest Redemption novel. Remind me never to go on a relaxing holiday with those guys.

We were left with Alex and Brad's relationship rocky but with a hopeful mend coming up in AT Death's Door. If you've been reading the series, then you know Alex and Ozzie can't go anywhere without trouble interrupting their lives. Both of these characters are phenomenally written and you can feel their pain, heartache, fear, as well as their strength (even when they don't know they have it!). Unfortunately, we all have our breaking points and I fear that Alex is knocking on her death door! The intensity is powerful and will have you walking around trying to do your daily tasks without putting the book down until the final word is read. Or wait -- was that just me? I tuned out the world and devoured every word into my soul. Get this book -- NOW!

I have read all the Alex Troutt novels by John W Mefford. I truly enjoy how Alex is as a mother, an FBI agent and a woman. This book took me a bit to get into but by midway through, I was as into Alex's journey in AT Death's Door as I have always been.

I was torn in at the end of the last book that Alex was not trusting Brad any longer. Not sure how I was going to feel moving forward but this next step works for me. I get the hurt that she felt.

I truly recommend AT Death's Door to those of you who have read previous books in either the Alex Troutt series or the Redemption Thrillers series. You'll feel like you are visiting with old friend when you pick up the book to read it. I have volunteered to share my review and all the opinions are 100% my own.

What a trip to Paradise AT Death’s Door delivered, only John W. Mefford made sure no one felt in Kansas ANY MORE once Paradise presented its hidden face of mystery, intrigue, love and betrayal, treachery, greed and corruption, in this story, once the surface of Paradise is scratched the tiniest bit. Action packed, and I felt like I was there in one shoot out scene, where I wanted to dodge the bullets as I read while they whizzed by me! A story so well built, with such developed characters, to bring this story home, which is “as usual”, when you read Mr. Mefford’s books and this one did not disappoint me at all. What a ride this book was!!! HIGHLY recommend!!!

AT Deaths Door is Alex Trout book 11 and book 23 in John W Mefford’s redemption series.Alex and Ozzie along with their family members head of to Hawaii for a well deserved break,Ozzie is helping an old friend with what appears a routine security job for a high profile event on the Island, but as you would expect nothing is ever so simple where Alex and Ozzie are involved. What follows is a story of slavery and corruption and when body parts are washed up on the shore Alex and Ozzie soon realise is not all peace and tranquillity. The author has woven an excellent storyline which will see Alex struggling not only to keep her and her family alive but also the shock of having been betrayed.
I would yet again than John for the advance copy of AT Deaths Door and look forward to the next and last in the Redemption Series.

As always, another explosive story from Mr. Mefford! When reading this series, you just need to sit down, buckle up and HANG ON! It is always an exciting ride and just like a rollercoaster you have ups, downs, twists and turns and then you come in to the home stretch and finally breath only to glide right by the attendant and take off again! Mr. Mefford doesn't let go easily! LOL!! This time the group goes on vacation to Hawaii and have anything BUT a relaxing holiday. Another wonderful adventure!

Paradise isn't paradise anymore. Alex, with crew in tow, and Ozzie, ditto, arrive in Hawaii and things go downhill from there. Body parts are washing up on beaches, the house of a friend is blown up while they are visiting, and the former mayor is murdered at an event when Ozzie is helping with security. Things really start to fall apart when Alex sees Brad at the home of an ex-prostitute and he didn't even call her! There are so many twists and turns and so many secrets unearthed that I don't see how John can top this book. Come on, surprise me.

Alex and her family (minus Brad) and Ozzie and his family head to Hawaii for a much needed vacation. Since Ozzie is helping a friend with security at a very high profile event, he is given the use of a beautiful villa for the entire group. Sounds beautiful and simple right? Of course not! From murder to kidnapping to utter chaos, the plot twists and turns until your head is spinning! As usual Alex and Ozzie are right in the middle of all the chaos. So much fun to read! Always looking forward to the next installment!

'AT Death's Door' was incredibly thrilling. The title alone had me scared of the outcome. I wasn't sure who I'd have to say goodbye to. As I near the end of this incredible series I find myself reading slower and trying to prolong the inevitable. But as usual, it's not working. John has come up with another creative story line that pulled me in from the start and kept me glued to the pages. Alex and Ozzie get pulled into more hellish scenarios. And on their vacay no less. Beautifully written and well played out. Definitely a must add to your tbr list. Recommended read.

Alex and Ozzie are going on a well-deserved vacation to Hawaii. Of course, the unexpected occurs and Alex and Ozzie are in the midst of trouble. I think John Mefford is a master at twists and turns in a story, and this one just boggled my mind. An excellent story that you will love. This is another really good story in a series that will knock your socks off. Another highly recommended story for you to enjoy.

At Death’s Door another awesome book by John W. Mefford. I don’t know how he does it but I was once again up past my bedtime reading this book. All those twists and turns kept me turning those pages. This is a wild face paced book that has awesome writing. I can’t wait for the next book in this series. Another great book by John Mefford, a master of suspense. Ozzie and Alex take their families on vacation to Hawaii. However, vacations don't usually involve murder and encounters with corrupt politicians and law enforcers or severed limbs washing up on beaches. Alex also has personal problems to deal with. This is a book full of surprises and plot twists that make difficult to put down until you reach the end.
