(3.5 stars) - low key & reliably sweet bodyguard romance

A simple, straightforward whodunnit/bodyguard romance. The narrative voice is on the dry, dispassionate side - definitely no angst here - and the romance is insta.

It wasn't overly difficult to guess the villain, which actually led me to second guess myself, but the wrap up was very nicely done.

This is the kind of read I enjoy when I'm just looking for something simple & reliably sweet - especially after reading something emotionally draining - so in that regard it was a good read

*Romance level: sweet kisses, nothing graphic

*Potential triggers: discussion of a case in which a woman was raped - they talk about what happened, but there are no explicit details. Also a #TDS trigger described below.

*Political: some mentions of the protagonist leaving Secret Service due to having issues with an unnamed socialist administration, & at one point, some of the characters stay at Trump Tower - so definite trigger for #TDS sufferers - but for the rest of us, there isn't actually any mention, let alone cheerleading, so it's not major. Though I agree that I'd rather not be reminded of politics in my entertainment fare.

I was really enjoying this read, and the mystery and suspense was good. It was heading for at least a 4* rating, until near the end when a certain guy mentions he is going to England to marry a minor duchess - apparently there are a lot of young, pretty ones!

Say what!?

Minor Duchess?

1. In England a dukedom is the highest title you can have under Prince. Nothing minor about that.

2. You can only be a duchess in England if you're married to a duke...or are his widow! If you marry again, you lose the title you had as his widow. Either you take on a new title if you marry a peer, or become just Mrs if you marry a commoner.

So, the daughter of a peer I could go with - if he's looking for a lower ranking then the daughter of an earl (who would have the title of Lady) or a viscount (who would have the title of The Honourable) would easily work, especially as they would keep their title upon marrying (Well, unless marrying someone higher ranked, then that title supercedes it!) But not a minor duchess. And I'm pretty sure we don't have a lot of young widowed duchesses.

The story took a major downturn here for me, and has resulted in a lower rating than it otherwise would have.

This was a cute cozy mystery about a man who is hired as a bodyguard to Candace Kane. Candace is a recently discovered heir to a grand fortune in Colorado. Sean is out of his element since he is from Florida and is going to the land of ice and snow in Christmas Tyme, Colorado.

Lots of twists and turns and questionable relatives. I was suspicious of several cousins but didn’t put the pieces together for much of the book. The author did a good job with red herrings and kept the plot going. Candy’s nephew was precious and brought out the soft side of Candace and Sean. There was a natural faith element portrayed by Sean and Grandma Hilda. And some of the characters were brought along in their Christian walk.

This is part of a series called The 12 Mysteries Of Christmas. It is worth looking up the rest of this series.

This is a wonderful Christmas mystery. I enjoyed reading the mystery driven part of it and the Christmas part of it. Loved the main characters. At points, the suspense was chilling, by the end it was uplifting and filled with Christmas cheer.

I loved the Colorado setting. In one scene we’re walking with the characters through the quaint village of Christmas Tyme, with all its cheerful seasonal decorations. Then in another scene, we’re in the snow-swept Colorado wilderness fearing for the characters’ lives.

The author is a skillful writer who takes the reader through a delightful Christmas mystery and adds that something additional that makes it a read that’s on more than one level. If I had one question to ask the author, it would be: “What’s next?”

Sean McGregor is a bodyguard hired to guard the recent heiress to Kane Industries, Candace Kane. Kane didn't grow up knowing she was a member of this family and is uncomfortable in her new role. Additionally, someone doesn't want her to be heiress and they are attempting to get rid of her. That's why the matriarch hires Sean. Sean and Candace become close throughout the unraveling of who doesn't want Candace around. Lots of surprises in this one. All is not what it appears to be.

I did receive a copy of this book from the author.

This mystery suspense made me chuckle because the author does an superb job incorporating fun allusions into the story. Weaving intriguing wealthy characters, an expensive chateau, twist and turn plot with conflicts to a believable resolution. My main complaint are once again typos and redundancies, while they do not distract from the story, the mystery needed one more read through or a review team.

Excellent Book

Wow this story had so many twists and turns in it that you never knew what to expect. Greed is so evil and you will always be punished one way or the other. The author did an amazing job with the characters and the storyline. I would recommend this book to everyone to read.

Another V. B. Twenty great story!

Great story with suspense, mystery, great characters. Tenery has become one of my favorite authors. Love to be able to enjoy a great story without bad language and very explicit sexual scenes. Plenty of romance with characters who respect one another and have good moral values. These are books I can recommend to my teenage granddaughter.

Rags to Riches, orphan to heiress, Candace Norton Kane gets more than she bargained for with people coming out of the woodwork to kill her. Bodyguard Sean McGregor is hired to save her. A family with a lot of hidden agendas and greed make life interesting. Set in the family chalet in picturesque Christmas Tyme, Colorado. An easy to read, cute story.

Good not great

Good story, not much suspense. I felt like the author’s political views crept in twice which felt awkward. I wish the characters didn’t get engaged so quickly. It’s ok to end a book without a proposal. While all that is more of a negative, I did enjoy the various characters and found myself eager to know what happens next. I would read other books by this author.

Thus far, this is my favorite of the series. I loved the complexity of the characters and the unraveling of their stories. I wish this one had some more chapters to include a romance for the aging Sam and Hilda.
