Skye MacKinnon is a USA Today & International Bestselling Author whose books are filled with strong heroines who don't have to choose.

She embraces her Scottishness with fantastical Scottish settings and a dash of mythology, no matter if she's writing about Celtic gods, cat shifters, or the streets of Edinburgh.

When she's not typing away at her favourite cafe, Skye loves dried mango, as much exotic tea as she can squeeze into her cupboards, and being covered in pet hair by her tiny black cat (who's secretly a demon).

This book is for you if… fast burn reverse-harem erotica is your thing? [she asks questioningly]

Overall.
Yes, I was fully aware of what I was getting myself into. But I still wasn't prepared. I just read some of the reviews for this book and I am utterly confused. I did not really enjoy this audiobook. The narration wasn't the issue and neither was the overall plot. I wouldn't even say reverse-harem stuff isn't my style. The thing I was irritated with first and foremost is this fast-burn thing, where the heroine sorta falls for 3 guys while actually searching for her sister -in hell. I mean, isn't that kinda the more urgent problem?

Interesting characters and very good world(-building). I loved the universe this was taking place in! The way Skye put together the world in Hell's Calling was excellent. I really wished I liked this more first and foremost so I could spend more time in this universe with those interesting characters. The take on angels vs. demons was unusual and tempting.

The arch of suspense. [she asks for hopefully] I suppose it could have been decent, hadn't it been for this weird trope where the fMC literally wants to get intimate with every dude in her fellowship as soon as she meets them. Can't we have some relationship building first, puhleeeasseee?

What’s happening.
‘There is light in the darkest of hearts, as there is dark in the purest of souls. Not everything is as it seems.’

Except in my heart while reading this: fog everywhere, I'm telling ya. Long story short: Ciera loves her sister and thus has to enter hell to safe her from Lucifer. She's accompanied by an angel, the three-headed dog/shapeshifter Cerberus and werewolf Pluto, all of whom she find's sexually attracting. Do as you wish with that information.

This is the best adventure journey audiobook I've read.

To save her sister Ciera must face the depths of hell. This is a trilogy and in book one we start to descend down a dark path. Ciera must lose the light if she wants to reach the place she desires. Along the way, she finds a group of unique characters. To survive she will have to lose herself.

This is only the first part and isn't over but I really enjoyed this. The world-creating is great and all the characters are interesting.

ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was a super quick read and for some reason reminded me a lot of the film Labyrinth. Cierra ignorantly makes a deal with Lucifer and he comes to collect not too long after. Only instead of claiming Cierra herself, his minions claim her 3 year old sister to whom she originally made the bargain to protect. Pissed and feeling duped Cierra teams up with a fallen angel to enter hell and retrieve her sister. Along the way she's meeting new demons/hell beasts and forging alliances of a sort. Honestly so far she's hella lucky no one has betrayed her yet and extremely fortunate to have guides when she seems to lack little to any knowledge of the levels of hell. Wondering how many guys she'll gain along the way and how they'll all cope becoming parents if they retrieve her sister, off to book two!

This was an action pack and breathtaking start to the Infernal Descent series! In hard times, we all make stupid decisions and will do anything to protect those that we love. Ciera sold her soul to Lucifer, also known as Luke, but when it was time to collect she refused and asked for more time. He took her three year old sister Tris instead and now she must go through the Dark Woods and the rings of Hell to get her back. Ciera has her flaws- she’s naive, but also headstrong and she’s fiercely loyal to those she loves. I enjoyed the guys that she met and how they were all different from one another. Ceb, also known as Cerberus, guards the gates of Hell and is playful and flirty, Maro, an angel who is unsure if he is dark or light with a serious and mysterious personality, and Plutus, a naughty werewolf who guards one of the rings of Hell. All of the men have a connected past and I’m looking forward to seeing it unravel even more and the heat rising in their relationships with Ciera. I love the vivid world that Bea and Skye have created and how they managed to put their own spin on Dante’s Inferno to make it unique.
Hiral did a great job with this narration! She used distinct voices for each character and had a flawless flow between each one. Her voice was easy to listen to and she kept me hooked until the very end!

*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.

Are you ready to enter a world of demons, angels, and rings of Hell? If so you have to pick up this book. This book tells the story of Ciera who makes a deal with Luke/Lucifer in an effort to be able to keep her baby sister safe until she is raised. Her plans go awry when Luke shows up early and takes the sister instead. Ciera then decides to embark on the journey into Hell in order to save her sister even if she has to lose herself. She finds a hot angel guide and meets a couple more hot supernaturals along the way leading us to a doozy of cliffhanger that will make you wish the next book was out already. Great for fans of paranormal/supernatural slow burn reverse harem novels. These two authors are truly great together. I really enjoyed it so I give it 4/5 stars.

There was something so endearing about this story, it had a tarnished innocence feeling to it.
It caught my attention from the very first page right up until the very end and was a very quick and easy read.
My only criticism would be that the story needs a little more detail and character development. The book is quite short and could easily take a bit more padding.

That being said it didn't take away from the enjoyment of the story and I look forward to reading the next in series

To Dante: You're a genius. Sorry for calling you a lovesick old poet in the blurb. - Bea Paige/ Skye Mackinnon (Enscription).

There is light in the darkest of hearts, as there is dark in the purest of souls. Not everything is as it seems.

I love a strong, badass woman who takes care of her own and that is exactly what Hell's Calling protagonist Ciera is. She made a deal with Lucifer to protect her sister (who is more like her daughter) and due to her own actions, she needs to save Tris from Hell. Along the way she meets Maro, an angel with a dark side, Beres, aka Cerberus aka the three-headed hellhound that guards the gates of hell he also shifts into a rather attractive man and Plutus, a werewolf in charge of a circle of hell. These three males have complicated histories and relationships but attraction abounds.

Hell's Calling is book one in the Infernal Descent series, the story of the harem doesn't end here, actually it barely begins here. Infernal Descent feels like it is set up a slow build romance series. Their mutual interest is established but all parties are resisting. The writing is wonderful, I liked the combination of humors and the creations of the characters. I quite enjoyed their differences and her reactions to them. I do wish we'd seen more of Lucifer but their relationships with him are almost a story in themselves. I read this as a story in Realms and Rebels, as an entry into an anthology it was clever it definitely made me want to read more in this series.

This was interesting... I'm not quite sure how to put into words how this one made me feel. I listened to this one on audiobook while getting some editing done. And this was the first paranormal reverse harem that I've been able to "focus" on on audio while getting other tasks done. That's a compliment to the author for sure.

I would say this was on the slow-burn side. If you want extra spice, you won't find it in book one. Book one was mostly world-building and getting to meet each of the main characters. The world building in this book was absolutely great. We got some great character development as well.

The shortened version of what you'll learn ; Ciera made a deal with Lucifer. Lucifer collects on this deal by taking her sister. To try to save her sister, she has to go to hell. That's where her "men" come into play. She has an angel, a werewolf and a hellhound accompany her to find her sister. And she obviously falls for each of these men.

I've already started book two on audio, so I'd say this was a good start to the series. It's short in length, which i adore as well.

I was hooked from the beginning. It was an exciting read. I love both of these authors so I was excited for them to write together, I was not disappointed. The world and characters they created are fantastic, I can't wait for the next book.

Added May 5 - I've listened to the audio version and love how Hiral Varsani brought these characters to life. She delivered their emotions fantastically.

It's been a while since I read a story based on Dante's Inferno because my tastes have changed over the years. With the amount of reverse harem I have been reading lately, it was sooner than later I was going to read a piece of fiction like this. And I’m glad that I read it from these two authors.

I was only familiar with MacKinnon prior to reading this book and knowing her sense of writing and humour. I knew I was in for a treat, having wanting to read Paige's writing for a while now. Paige comes across a well rounded author and I like this pairing. They work well together work with their strengths and weakness to give an intriguing story.
They give us Ciera a fiery heroine who isn't afraid to get her hands seriously dirty. She paid the price and now the devil has come calling. Ciera isn’t going to let things lay at the very moment things changed, there is an awakening of sorts. Don’t be fooled and she can more than handle herself. Giving her three unlikely guys , is the icing on the cake.

The liberation they have taken is fun and I can see why they have . It adds to the atmosphere of the book and gives the story some hotness of another kind to this story. They work well together and like the way the harem is going. It’s the right pace given the situation unfolding and the relationship /banter between the guys

The duo work well together, you can't tell who wrote which character or the humour as both authors have great sense of humour. I like the direction of this Dante Inferno inspired harem, it was only time and it's a cracker. It's an interesting take on the poem and I like the concept . Definitely a series to watch out for and I’ll be definitely be lining up for the next book. It’s something different and I like the style and concept .

I enjoyed this story a lot more than I thought I would. I really didn't care for the beginning. I thought it was going to be a corny and predictable story. I think I'd of preferred to see some flashbacks sprinkled through the story to give it more flair. I'd of also liked to see more points of view. Either way, it was a very nice read.

The characters were okay. I can't say that I connected with any of them. I felt a great deal of empathy to the main character for losing her sister, but I didn't connect with her. That doesn't mean I hated the characters. They just aren't characters I can relate to. I would like to get some more background information on the main characters in the story.

The narrator did a very good job. The only critique I have about the narration is that some of the male characters weren't really emphasized well. I couldn't tell when it switched from narration to them sometimes. But for the most part, she did a terrific job.

I'm unsure at this moment if I will continue on with the series. There's a chance that I will, but I'm not sure. While I really didn't hate this story, I didn't really consider it a favorite either. It wasn't a story I could gush over. I'm sure there are many readers who will disagree with me. I'm completely okay with that.

I haven’t read any books by either of these authors before and I really enjoyed this one.

Ciera is feisty and is willing to do anything to protect her little sister, even selling her soul to the devil. When Lucifer takes her sister away Ciera is looking for a way to get into Hell to go get her. This is how she meets the sinfully sexy angel Maro who agrees to take her through the different circles of Hell to find her sister.

Along the way they meet Plutus, a Wolf shifter and Ceb (also known as Cerberus) who agree to travel with Ciera and Maro.

I’d be tempted to sell my soul if it meant getting to travel around with these hunky guys. It was a really easy read with great characters and I’m going to start the second book straight away so I can find out what happens next

Holy Hell!!!
Ciera embarks on a mission with the assistance of an angel Maro, to retrieve her baby sister Tris from the Devil aka Luke.
As she descends through the circles of Hell she’ll meet 2 more men/demons to join her mission.
As soon as Ciera takes the first step into Hell, you’ll be hooked. And with a steamy cliffhanger at the end, it will leave you wanting the next book - Hell’s Weeping.

Ciera made a deal with the Devil. Lucifer/Luke owns her soul in exchange for the means to keep her sister safe. She does some minor work for him in return for enough money to keep her three-year-old sister Tris housed, fed, and clothed. She's not a good person but she will do whatever it takes to keep Tris safe. But it went wrong and Luke has Tris. He sent someone for Ciera and when she fought back, they took her baby sister instead. Now she will do whatever it takes to get Tris back. A trip to hell is on order. With a tip, Ciera locates someone who can help her get to Hell, a semi-fallen Angel Maro. Once in the 9 circles of hell, they pick up two of his 'friends', a hellhound/man Cerebus and a wolf-man Plutus. Although her brain tells her that she can trust no one, Ciera feels safe with these three. She also feels an undeniable attraction. Even in the depths of hell.

Hell's Calling is outstanding. What an original spin on Dante's Inferno. Certainly more interesting than the one I read in high school. Fantastic, vivid world-building. Strong imagery. Ciera is the strong lead this story needs as its anchor. She's not all good, certainly not all bad but she is determined. She loves fiercely and protects the one she loves. I don't feel that Luke stands a chance. She has a spark, a light that attracts those in desperate need of something to believe in. She is their Hope. Maro is the conflicted Angel, mostly light with a touch of darkness; Ceb is dangerously playful like an overgrown puppy but with more than a little bite, and Plutus is openly naughty. We don't know much about him yet except for his sorted past with Maro. They all have a palpable connection to Ciera. They all make a girl lose her sense.

I was drawn in from the first scene of this book and could not put it down. I love the story, the characters and I can't wait to see what happens next. I want into the inner circles. I want to meet Luke and a certain family member. I want Tris back with Ciera. I want Ciera to hold on to what makes her special. I want more of the guys. I want MORE!

In this first book we meet Ciera as Lucifer sort of breaks his word. She has signed a contract with 'Luke' for her soul so she would be able to provide for her little sister Tris. Now with Tris crying for her, she tries to fight off Luke's messenger and ends up unconscious. When she wakes, Tris is gone and she gets some advice and direction from her elderly neighbor Noella.

After Maro kind of introduces himself and ascertains her reasons for wanting to descend to Hell. He agrees to help her, and the adventure begins.

We meet some of the usual folks such as Charon at the river Acheron, as Ciera gets her first visual of Hell. Then and a surprising one, seeing Homer at the first circle. She will have to make it through the ten circles of Hell to get to the center where Lucifer aka Luke is holding her sister.

At the second circle there is Minos, but it is at the third circle that things get even more interesting as we meet Cerberus, the three-headed hellhound who is the gatekeeper for this circle. Who just happens to turn into a very sexy male. At this point Ciera has started thinking of Maro as 'Her angel' which in itself is intriguing. It's her reaction to Cerberus that starts confusing her a bit, she's on a quest to free her sister not get the hots over an angel and a hellhound, who just happens to turn into a very sexy male.

It's there that Plutus, a werewolf, joins the crew, his is the fourth circle and even though there appears to be a feud between him and Maro they need him get across the river Styx. There is The City of Dis, the fifth circle, guarded by fallen angels and the Furies on the other side of the river Styx.

I'm not going to continue naming folks since at this point we have the ones important to this book. Ciera has the angel, the hellhound and the werewolf on her side, and they are both distracting and needed.

I couldn't stop reading and the descriptions of the circles are Hell indeed. I am just going to continue reading as I need to know what happens next.

Ceb is mine I tell you!!

Absolutely loved this mash up between Bea Paige and Sky MacKinnon!! From the very beginning it grabbed hold of me and wouldn't let me go. I already love Ciera and really feel for her throughout the book. Loved her internal monologue haha. Loved seeing the glimpses into her past and the mentions of her sister. The story is pretty awesome, making illusions to Dante's Inferno and the different levels of Hell. I loved reading the book in high school and while reading makes me reminiscence and brings it all together wonderfully. Loved how illustrative Skye and Bea got with the different levels. Made it super easy to imagine.

Don't even get me started on the guys...Ceb, Maro, and Plutus. I called dibs on Ceb, like seriously I licked him and everything! I liked how different the guys were and how they changed throughout just Book 1 of this series. You think Maro is super serious but then he says a dirty joke and your jaw drops haha. I expected that from Ceb but then he gets super adorable/serious and it just keeps me guessing what will happen next which is a refreshing thing nowadays. I am intrigued to see what happens when the group gets to Luke. Will he be as dark and brooding (and probably badass) as I think he will be? CANNOT WAIT to get my hands on Book 2 already ❤️

Highly recommend you order the set where this ebook version will be in right now. If the other stories are even 1/2 as good as this one, it will totally be worth it! I cant wait to see what Skye and Bea do with this series. They are amazing together. It was hard to distinguish between the 2 voices, which is the best sign that coauthors should continue to write and create these amazing worlds and characters.

Here we have an action packed, adventure riddled, page-turning tale that follows the beginning of Ciera's journey into the pits of Hell. Along the way she starts to collect her own band of merry men in the form of a neutral Angel, a charming Hellhound, and a devilish Wolf. The further into Hell they all descend, the more trials Ciera will face, and now, with Hell breaking loose, will these four be able to complete their mission to save Tris, or will they succumb to the darkness as they struggle to get to the centre of Hell?

Bea Paige and Skye MacKinnon have written an incredible story that takes us for a ride of twists and turns, with their writing styles melding into one. There are so many things I loved about this tale, including the varying character personalities, the slow pace to allow the reader to truly immerse themselves into the story's world, their take on each new circle of Hell and just what awaits the sinners there, and the inclusion of many mythical creatures that guard the circles of Hell. The ending is grand in that it finally starts to build before dropping off and leaving the reader craving more. I cannot wait to see what comes in Hell's Weeping (book 2 in the Infernal Descent series). Please don't leave me waiting too long!

Selling her soul to Lucifer was never actually meant to happen but circumstances occurred which made it necessary.
When the devil takes her sister, Ciera is determined to get her back in any way necessary.
Looking for a way into hell, she doesn't end up going alone... Instead a light appears in the darkness to guide her.
The angel who accompanies her hides a great many things but Maro seems capable of helping.
Through the circles of hell they pick up two interesting creatures who are fascinated by the human before them.
Ceb is a hellhound and Plutus is a wolf, both keen to tag along.
Will she get what she came for and be able to leave?

This book was a delightful and humorous read with obviously a hellish theme.
Ciera has a personality that instantly makes her likeable and her love for her sister is endearing.
The structure of hell is very descriptive and makes you feel as if you are there among the souls of the lost and damned.
Book one is a fantastic start and I was addicted from the first.
This author has a brilliant writing style that sucks you in for the hot and bumpy ride.
An exciting treasure that I would be happy to dig out any day.
I can't explain how much I enjoyed this slice of literary heaven and must say it surpasses all the books I've read recently.
I chuckled quite a lot while reading this and found the males hilariously written.
I long for the second book.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

"There is light in the darkest of hearts, as there is dark in the purest of souls. Not everything is at it seems".

This particular line sets the tone and the perfect description of this story. From the very talented duo, Ms. Paige and Ms. MacKinnon, comes a contemporary rendition of Dante's Inferno. It follows the story of Ciera, who was orphaned at a young age and had the responsibility of taking care of a younger sister. To make ends meet, she made a deal with the devil. She didn't expect that the repayment will be soon and that the price wasn't her soul, but of her beloved sister. Armed with the advice of a friend, she set off to get her sister back.

The setting of the story and its characters was well executed; you will get the feel of the nine circles as Ciera went on her rescue mission, as we are slowly introduced to the other main and side characters. Her plight and resulting personality is something everyone can relate to. I love that this is a bit of slow burn because I like that she builds up her relationship with the men. I'm specially loving her Dynamics with them. Ceb is such a flirt but I heart him, Maro's mysterious character makes you want to get to know him more while Plutus' intense personality draws you right in.

All in all, I'd love to get my hands on the second installment with the way this book ended.

*voluntarily and honestly reviewed the ARC I received from the author*

I liked it. The beginning really drew me into this paranormal world that Ciera was forced to sign up for because it meant safety for her sister. But like all business deals not placed in writing or seriously overlooked, her sister ended up taken, and she's decided to go after her. No matter the cost.

When I read a story, I like to think there's a solid beginning, middle and ending. This one didn't quite have that, as exciting and hot as it was, so this read more to me like a gloriously lengthy novella. Like I said, the beginning was great, and their descent into hell was entertaining and didn't bore me in the slightest. It actually made me think of Dante's Inferno time and time again, comparing the two stories and how different or similar the rings of hell were. The ending abrupt and if more had been going on before it ended, like a more solid build up with the guys and why it's such a great insta, I wouldn't have been as 4-stars as I feel right now. I will most definitely read the second book and if you enjoy Hell and slow-burning reverse harems, then check this out.

This is one of those books where I know it wasn't perfect, but I liked it so much I just didn't care about any complaints someone might have.

This book is fast paced but it took a little bit to get addicted. It starts off with a bang, as you find out Ciera sold her soul to the devil, and when he decided to call in a debt, it is her three year old sister that is taken. Since it happened so early in the book, it didn't hit me as hard as it maybe should have as I didn't know them long enoug. From there, Ciera is on a mission to save her sister from hell at the expected cost of her own soul.

Along the way, she meets three interesting males who join her on the journey. I am not quite sure what all of them see in Ciera, other then for those that live in hell, a living human who had not sinned enough to get condemned to hell would be a rarity. I sure understand why she would be interested in them however! As this is a shorter book, characters are told in broad strokes and feelings grow quickly.

I loved reading how these authors did their own spin on daunte's inferno. Can't wait for the next one.

Ciera’s Deal with the Devil! Great Story & Listen🎧

Hell's Calling: A Reverse Harem
Infernal Descent, Book 1

By: Bea Paige, Skye MacKinnon
Narrated by: hiral varsani

This is an imaginative, well written, well told story with interesting characters and storylines. The authors, Bea Paige and Skye McKinnon are creative and do a wonderful job paralleling Dante’s Inferno and making it their own. The female lead, Ciera, made a deal with the devil and in payment the Devil took off with her little sister, Tris. Ciera sets out to save her sister. Her journey through hell is an adventure, she is led thru the circles of hell with the help of Maro, an Angel. She meets some interesting characters as she travels down further. She only makes thru the 5th circle but her journey continues in Hell’s Weeping.

I listen to the audio version, Hiral Vasani does a wonderful job narrating the story and bringing the characters to life. She performed the voices of all the different characters, switching back & forth effortlessly keeping the story in a perfect flow Thank you for the great listen.

This audio book started out really promising. I liked the narration and it started out with a good pace. Then it slowed down. We venture into Dante’s inferno type of hell with different levels but she travels through the levels so quickly without anything really happening. I had to stop reading though bc I couldn’t stand the FMC. I get that she’s tough, she’s been taking care of her sister and tells us she’s had to do bad things in order to take care of her. Yet she’s a complete idiot. She signs away her soul (even after reading the contract) so Lucifer takes her sister instead of her. Now she has to go find her in hell. This is where the FMC starts to get on my nerves. She finds a guy, a literal angel who knows all these people in hell. He’s acting as her guide and yet she’s constantly fighting with him, ignoring information he gives her and frankly being an out right brat. How about you shut the fuck up, listen to THE ONE PERSON who’s apparently willing to help you, quit worrying about all the dead souls and why they are in hell and get on your damn journey! If you can’t tell she was on my last nerve and I had to stop.
