This book was sweet. Easy enough to read and you didn’t have to think too much whilst doing so. I enjoyed it. Definitely enjoyed the second half a lot more. I felt like the first half dragged on and I was sat wondering what was even the point but I found myself wanting to read the rest. Glad I read this little one! It was fun 🤗

What a gorgeous cover and book title to match! Tilly Maguire and the Royal Wedding Mess is a book for the teen based market, perfect for readers aged 12+. Tilly Maguire and the Royal Wedding Mess is light and fluffy in the right places. It revolves around the colourful life of eighteen year old intern Tilly Maguire, a Melbourne gal based at a top London PR company.
Tilly Maguire is a young Australian girl who longs to be a writer. When Tilly is given a lucrative six week internship based at a prestigious PR firm in London, her world changes. One of her first assignments results in an exchange with Reuben Vaughan, who is in a band Tilly has worshipped throughout her teenage years. We watch on as Tilly navigates her new world of celebrity crushes, drama, publicity, gossip, rumour and innuendo. It is a tough gig, especially being so far from home, but Tilly receives support from the unlikeliest of sources. Tilly will go where she can never gone before in her professional and personal life, but it will bring her personal satisfaction.
Marketed to the teen readers market, Tilly Maguire and the Royal Wedding Mess is a book that has broad appeal. It contains plenty of gushing fairytale like moments, but at the same time, Tilly Maguire and the Royal Wedding Mess provides a good sketch of life as a teenage girl in today’s society. I am probably not the ideal target age or audience for this book, but after my previous read being extremely heavy in emotion, it was nice to turn to a fairly light novel, which offered plenty of entertainment value.
If you are a fan of motion pictures such as The Cinderella Story, The Princess Diaries, What a Girl Wants and many more of this genre type, I am certain Tilly Maguire and the Royal Wedding Mess will be sure to appeal. This book taps into the fantasies of many teens, such as new careers, romance, glamour and the celebrity world. I think the author, Emma Grey, is aware of these workable elements and has inserted them within her appealing novel, which is actually an offshoot of her previous novel Unrequited.
Emma Grey is a mother to not just one, but two teen daughters. This means that she implicitly knows what makes teen minds tick. She is in touch with the dreams, fantasies and hopes of a typical teenage girl living in modern times. I think this shines through her novel. There is a real here and now feel to Tilly Maguire. Grey launches into the influence of social media. She also takes a glimpse into some mental health issues that may plague our teens. These points include self doubt, confidence, anxiety and resiliency. Grey seems to have it covered, so her book is both relevant and relatable.
In terms of the plot, it was easy going for me, with a few surprises and dramatic moments along the way. Grey is also in tune with the emotions of her characters and this is expressed well within the storyline event, as well as the dialogue. The main character Tilly’s internal dialogue seemed authentic. I was able to fully immerse myself in her character. The love angle is played well by Grey and I am confident readers will enjoy soaking themselves in what this angle of the book has to offer. Reuben was a great male lead, Grey seems to nail his characterisation, along with the supporting cast.
What presented to me initially as a standard fairytale like teen romance novel proved to be much more. Tilly Maguire and the Royal Wedding Mess was a great romantic drama that ultimately helps our teens to accept, rather than doubt themselves – especially when they have the world at their feet!

Very insta love and frustrating. The main character was just annoying. I didn't think it was realistic at all and it was kind boring. Everyone was just a cardboard cut out, emphasising their main character trait.

This was a super fun, light read and I became so invested I stayed up late and read it all in one go. It's definitely a fan-girly, crazy-over-the-top teen drama kind of story, but I could tell that when I picked it up. It was entertaining, had me laughing out loud a fair bit, and the main characters were endearing and overall pretty likeable.
A few characters were pretty shallow and only mentioned when they were convenient to the plot- I thought Jack was going to be more involved in the plot, but I loved Reuben so it didn't really bother me. There was enough drama and lines being crossed and secrets (literally everyone was into someone else) being hidden as it was with the characters who were focused on.
I liked the changing perspective to see characters from each other's eyes.
Definitely aided by Reuben calling Tilly 'Maguire' all the time, I couldn't help but think of Lizzie McGuire the whole time I was reading this book. It has the same awkward, clumsy-but-endearing normal girl out of her element vibes, and I was pretty here for it to be honest.
Reuben was a great romantic lead for this story, I adored him. The way he dealt with Tilly's anxiety, no questions asked, and looked up how to handle it so he wouldn't say the wrong thing was adorable. And everything he did in this book was for other people.
On that note he was one of those leads who was a bit too perfect, his only 'flaw' was lying/keeping something from Tilly, which was really just him selflessly protecting Belle. There was a bit of mention of his past behaviour as a bit of a player/bad boy vibes, but it was hard to connect that with his character in the story because he was just so nice and supportive and wary of his own fame.
Overall, this is a cute, fluffy, crazy-unrealistic romantic comedy, which I definitely recomend if that's what you're looking for in a book.

It was totally over the top Drama-Rama, and everyone and their mother had had secret issues. Yep, “check” to all that.
But somehow it didn't feel stupid or artificial, it was just good fun all the way around.
I mean she starts a major scandal involving a wedding, an international super pop star, a royal princess and of course herself.
It was gorgeous!
I'm a little bit embarrassed to admit that it actually first was after I finished it, that I realised it actually was a companion/follow-up book to “Unrequited”, which I read just two weeks ago. :sigh:
But somehow it didn't feel stupid or artificial, it was just good fun all the way around.

A fantastic amazing lighthearted and dramatic read isfyou want to read something quick and easy. was an engaging book about an aspiring writer, a pop star, a princess and an assistant. Explores the capacity of loyalty one can have for a friend and second chancessssss. There’s still a bit of loose ends but ye. Reuben and Tilly are #relationshipgoals if u kno what I mean BAHAHHA

An ending too crazy but very consistent with the story.
I honestly don't know how to rate this reading.
The plot is entertaining and in truth there are very funny situations but the author failed to sell me the chemistry and, much less, the crush of Tilly and Reuben.
Both protagonists seemed immature, inconstant and lacking in personality.
Despite this I could not help but get hooked and follow the adventures and misadventures of the whole gang.

This was a cute book! I thought it started out great and then went a bit crazy in the middle. A lot happening. But it wasn’t too bad to keep up with. I loved the characters and the outcome!

Declaration of bias: the author dedicated this book to me, so of course I’m going to adore it. That said, I genuinely believe that this is the adorable fairytale that every queer teen needs. Can’t say much more without the hugest spoilers. Suffice it to say, I wish something like this had existed when I was growing up. Five big fat rainbow stars.

This was an absolute hoot of a novel, and the romantic in me was buzzing.
Quick history of me: I was a HUGE fan of The Princess Diaries, and I've read over 2000 shoujo manga. Short story: This book was right down my alley!
When I started reading about Tilly I had mixed feelings because, a) I was brought back to my Princess Diaries days and the hilarious narrative of my old pal, Amelia Mignonette Grimaldi Thermopolis Renaldo and, b) I was worried that it was going to turn into a manic-pixie-dream girl-thing.
I quickly realised that yes, "a" was a good thing and I was in fact digging this realisation. And my original thought that was "b" wasn't correct, so I was a ball of joy.
Tilly Maguire was a welcome mess.
In fact, I was swept up in the whole drama of E V E R Y T H I N G. I was so ready for all of the craziness and drama (which is usually not my thing) and I was rooting for all of my couplings to get together.
My only issue with my reading of this book was the fact that I didn't realise there was already another book with some of the same characters already out! At this realisation (which I had made partway through the book when I started going through all of the author's past works), I immediately put 'Unrequited' on hold. I am ecstatic to say the least, to get to live in this world a little longer.
Would I recommend this book? Y E S. If you want some positivity in your life, this book is undoubtedly for you.

An accidental fairy tale – Cinderella style! Appearing quite cliché at first, this novel is packed with plot twists, confessions, unravelling mysteries and perfectly happy endings. What more could you want in a book to read?
Tilly Maguire & the Royal Wedding Mess is a fun, light, swoon-worthy read on the surface, but underneath this glittery cover is the remarkable story of an independent woman who doesn’t need to be rescued by a newly-titled prince, but finds love all the same.
Completely ignoring the fact that I love reading, writing, music and have read Grey’s debut novel, Unrequited – in which this boy band first made their entry – I fell in love with the novel at first sight. I know, I know, you’re not meant to “judge a book by its cover”, but I couldn’t help doing exactly that (I’m pretty sure others wouldn’t either) upon seeing the chic novel cover, which beautifully encompasses the whole story.
Going beyond the surface, you’ll open up to a world of heartfelt characters who, despite their slightly out of the ordinary statuses (such as that of a princess or pop star!), are dealing with their own heart-rending problems. Tilly, especially, is a funny, unique individual who you’ll immediately connect with. She has her flaws, don’t get me wrong, but don’t we all?
Written beautifully by Grey, I was with Tilly every moment of her rollercoaster journey, learning from her as she kept a brave face throughout all the hurdles life hurled at her. I must say, after finishing this novel, I sure am excited for my gap year!
For all those readers looking for a new fairy tale of their own, this book is the one for you! Congratulations to Emma Grey on writing such a wonderful novel!

This book has been sitting in shelf for about a year and a half and I finally got around to reading it - I was pleasantly surprised!
The start of the book was a bit hard to follow for me, the pacing was just a tad off. It wasn't so interesting that I was actually going to drop the book until I read the words 'I'm gay' by the princess. From then on I was hooked -with the Isabelle & Angie subplot that is.
Now I don't have anything against Reuben or Tilly but personally they were just hard to connect to for me, and their romance moved fairly quickly. That's a personal preference of course - I prefer slowburn, well-crafted romances that leave you sitting on your reading chair squealing 'just kiss already!! It was more love at first sight, which I'm not a huge advocate for.
Isabelle and Angie - I have to say that kept me on edge and I found myself smiling ridiculously hard whenever they were mentioned and I was dying for them to get together. Their romance wasn't amazingly executed but it's gay, I'll take what I can get.
And finally, Kat and Angus. I was IMMEDIATELY drawn to Kat the second she was mentioned and I only wish she was mentioned a little more. However, to my delight I discovered that she has her very own book which I have already ordered btw! The snippets of romance we got between them i was swOONINGG!!!
a few special mentions is that Tilly's friend Caitlin WORKS AT MY LOCAL BOOKSTORE LOL (down to the actual location) and the few aussie culture mentions that got me snickering.
The ending was predictable but I found myself actually rooting for it and not rolling my eyes haha so there's that.

With plot twists left, right and centre this novel will definitely instigate an emotional response. With ups, and downs, cringes and laughs, this book has it all packed into one.
Upon picking up the novel, I was unsure how I would find the reading experience. The book appeared quite youthful and angled towards the end of primary, beginning of high school age bracket. I did find however, find that the light nature of the novel was a nice break from a lot of the heavier content that is available in the young adult genre. The elements of fun, humour and oddness made for a nice break from the darker themes of the YA genre. As such, I found myself enjoying the novel more than first anticipated.
Additionally, if like me, you are interested in changing perspectives and voice, this novel definitely has it covered. A beautiful and thoroughly thought out representation of characters and events is steadily present throughout the pages. Making for a fun, light and enjoyable read.
I recommend this novel to the younger teen age bracket based on content alone. However, I did have a positive experience with the read despite being in the older teen bracket, so I would still say to give it a go. For a lighter, more fun read and a bit of laugh, pick up this cute novel and give it a shot.

The elements of fun, humour and oddness made for a nice break from the darker themes of the YA genre. As such, I found myself enjoying the novel more than first anticipated.
Additionally, if like me, you are interested in changing perspectives and voice, this novel definitely has it covered. A beautiful and thoroughly thought out representation of characters and events is steadily present throughout the pages. Making for a fun, light and enjoyable read.
I recommend this novel to the younger teen age bracket based on content alone. However, I did have a positive experience with the read despite being in the older teen bracket, so I would still say to give it a go. For a lighter, more fun read and a bit of laugh, pick up this cute novel and give it a shot.

Tilly Maguire and the Right Royal Wedding Mess by Emma Grey is a delightful contemporary full of drama. I must admit, I did struggle through getting through the beginning of the novel but once you get more into the novel you start caring about what’s playing out and the eventful journey Tilly goes through. Grey’s writing style is fun and easy to read, it lets you jump right into the plot and you feel as though these characters are your friends.
After the slow pacing of the first few chapters, I flew through the novel extremely quickly and loved every minute of it. I must admit I was rather sad when the novel ended and I had to leave these characters alone. I really couldn’t put down this novel and I recommend it to all lovers of romance and young adult contemporaries. At times I did struggle with the protagonist, Tilly Maguire, something about some of the decisions she was making just irked me the wrong way which is the main reason why I didn’t rate this book 5 stars.
I’m extremely keen to read other works by Grey in the future! I’m keen to get my hands on ‘Unrequited’ and I’ll look out for any upcoming novels she puts out in the future. Overall, I recommend this book to all chick lit, romance lovers. If you’re not into that genre I think you’ll have a hard time loving this book because it doesn’t take itself seriously.

This isn't the type of book I usually read but I'm so glad that I agreed to read something "fluffy" for the tiny book club that I'm a member of.
I love that Tilly has anxiety as it helps shine a light on anxiety and what some people go through daily, even though it's not an overwhelming part of the story it was still an important part of the story for me as I was able to connect more with Tilly as a person and not just a character (yes I'm aware that Tilly is fictional).
This book wasn't an all round great story with drama, not over the top drama but just the right amount of drama for me to enjoy reading about.

If you are looking for a light and easy read (with a very predictable ending), give this a go. I bought this book on a whim during my trip to Perth 5 years back and had only gotten around to reading it bcs I have always thought it would be too cliche, too predictable and too boring. But I wished I had read it sooner! It is predictable but so not boring. It makes you feel like you’re going through this fairytale twist of events with Tilly. Like wdym one minute I am interning for a magazine company and the next I am all tangled up with this hot pop star? The love was brief in the middle of the book, it was easy but not at all cringey. The twists of event gave it a good rest for other things to unwind as well. If ever in the future I want a light read that will leave me feeling like all hope has been restored in this world, I will definitely read this again

Girl meets Pop Star in this well written YA fiction. Emma Grey has a fantastic writing style that seems to enhance the budding romance and drama of the stories that she weaves.

Just the antidote to my previous abandoned book. This was a quick and easy read, and once again Emma Grey had me hooked on the characters even though I’m not the target audience and this kind of book isn’t usually my thing. Like its predecessor, Unrequited, it’s ideal for teenagers looking for a fun romance with a positive female role model. Points for giving her an anxiety disorder, extra points for making her determined, resilient and an all-round Anti-Disney type of gal.
Both of Emma’s YA novels are on my shelf waiting for my daughters to get to the stage where kissing is no longer gross. I look forward to talking them about being true to yourself, behaving respectfully and living your dream.

Where do I start, this book was really good filled with lots of twists and turns along the way. This book was not your typically romance book but still had that significant happy ending for everyone.
I liked how that every chapter was from a different persons perspective, this added a real insight into the minds of the character's and let as know there inner feelings and thoughts. The character's were also great Rueben, Tilly,Angie and of course Belle all went on a journey of self discover and found out what it meant to be truly happy.
Overall a good book and I now have to go back and read Kats story.Looking toward to more books in this series hopefully from author Emma Grey.

Another gorgeous story from a wonderful writer. Emma has such a lovely way with words and her characters are so human you feel like you know them. Tilly is one of my fave characters, I just adore her. I NEED more of this girl. I adored the first book Unrequited, but I love this one even more. Probably my last read for the year, this was a fantastic choice.

This was very enjoyable, very cute, and I didn't realise it was a companion/follow up to "Unrequited" until I finished (oops!). To be fair I had an inkling, but I couldn't remember the characters names from the first book. I went and looked it up when I finished this one.
Probably not as good as the first book, but definitely even more drama!

Jumping head first into this book, I would have to say that I was extremely disappointed.
I thought this novel was going to be really cute and fun, but the characters were too silly for my liking. I was fond of the overall plotline, but this story was written in a way that I just didn't enjoy, convincing me to DNF this book at 36 pages.

What fun!
Fast paced, fun and romantic.
The way Emma tells Tilly’s story makes it seem like it could almost happen IRL. The characters are loveable, loyal and witty. Great YA read, or for oldies too. Can’t wait for the next instalment!

The book reads so much like fan fiction and has such a strong ‘I’m not like other girls’ main character that is so ordinary that a rockstar fell in love with her at first sight...

I loved this book a lot. It was a really interesting insight to what a celebrity life is like. At some points it seemed over dramatic but that’s what made it an interesting read.

I’m not normally a huge fan of chick-lit, but I loved this book from the start. The tone is hilarious, and I felt immediately invested in the characters. A great light read!
