[June 2023 Update: I’ve bumped the whole series down from a 4 star to a 3 star for various reasons that are listed with each book below. ☺️]

Such a fun series! I would call this series a light paranormal/urban fantasy which I don’t think is a genre or a thing, but here we are. And if it WAS a genre this one would be top tier on the list. ☺️

⚔️Vampires Drink Tomato Juice⚔️

[May 2023 Update: After rereading this book with my family I’ve decided to drop my rating from 4 to 3 stars just because that while funny and entertaining the story doesn’t actually have a plot and parts do seriously drag which makes it more of a 3 star then 4 for me.]

Original Review: This book is so much fun and many times I was inwardly laughing at things said or the situations our main girl Morgan gets herself into!

You can tell this was one of the author’s first books as the beginning did take a bit for me to get into and the story also meanders at times though with the tropes and ideas of magical creatures being flipped on their heads at every turn (vampires who pass out at the sight of blood, anyone?) the story never dragged or was boring as I questioned what Morgan would encounter or be thrust into time and time again.

Like all this author’s books the characters sparkle and are both funny and endearing (while also annoying in some cases) all at the same time. Morgan is a regular high school girl with a lot of sass and bravery whose rather “boring” skill set of just being a human is almost a superpower in her new magical world which I thought was a super fun way to make us normal people feel like we can make change as well as those more “qualified.”

As always the side characters are amazing and hilarious (my faves are Frey and Madeline) though I wanted to slap and strangle a few of the guys at various points throughout the story. And for those who hate this trope like I do, there does appear to be a potential love triangle being set up by the end of the book, but we’ll just have to wait and see how things go though I certainly hope not.

Such a fun story, and I’m curious to see where Morgan’s adventures take her next!

‼️Content‼️

Language: holy crap; screw up; gosh; pervert; what the; flippin’; pissed; oh my gosh; what the hell; ass; crud; crap

Violence: fighting with weapons and hand to hand (not detailed); injuries and blood (not detailed); holes are blown into the walls of a building

Sexual: guys are called hot; a guy centaur puts a magical glamour over himself to hide in the human world but it accidentally makes him look like a human girl

Other: vampires, werewolves, and other magical creatures/beings; magic; a character is hypnotized to remove their memories; characters are kidnapped/tied up/knocked out

⚔️Goblins Wear Suits⚔️

[June 2023 Update: After rereading this book with my family like the first book I decided to drop my rating from 4 to 3 stars due to there not being much of a plot and lack of villain motivation. The story is still funny and entertaining, it just doesn’t really make or stick the cut of a 4 star book for me.]

Original Review: Such a fun, solid sequel! The author’s writing definitely improved from the first book as this one was tighter in plot and pacing and never meandered or felt disconnected like the first book did at times.

Morgan and her friends get into more scrapes and wild crazy stuff with a dark elf causing quite a bit of chaos and I really enjoyed myself and even wondered a few times how things were going to go down or be resolved. And frying pans for the win as awesome weapons! Though I do wonder if Morgan lifts weights in order to haul even a tiny one around with so much ease—iron skillets are NOT light weight! 😂

The only thing that bugged me was the back cover blurb leads you to believe there’s going to be a love triangle which isn’t the case at all (thank goodness!) as when dating one of the guys is brought up Morgan instantly says they’re just friends and sticks to it without any drama or waffling in any way. So if you hate this trope like I do this series doesn’t have it, so yay!

‼️Content‼️

Language: crap; darn; heck; gits; danged; dang; oh my gosh; gosh; gee; geez; what the; pervert; screwed; holy crap; big-ass; pervo; lame-ass; jeez

Violence: fighting with weapons, magic, and hand to hand (not detailed); injuries and blood (not detailed); a guy places a fear spell on a girl more than once and basically tortures her

Sexual: guys are called hot; kissing (not detailed); a guy centaur puts a magical glamour over himself to hide in the human world but it makes him look like a human girl; kisses on the cheek and forehead

Drugs/Alcohol: people drink wine

Other: vampires, werewolves, and other magical creatures/beings; magic; a character is kidnapped and chained up

⚔️Lost Files of the MBRC⚔️

[June 2023 Update: Still my favorite in the series but after rereading it with my family I’m bumping it down from a 4 star to a 3 star just because I think that rating fits better. ☺️]

Original Review: This short story collection is honestly my favorite in the entire series. I laughed so much during the first one and then others gave me warm feels and everything in between as we see life for Morgan after the end of book two and beyond through her life. I also got more of a handle on Devin which I’ve found hard in the other books so that was nice to see why Morgan actually liked him.

So glad the author added this as the last book because it really completed the series in a way book two didn’t manage to a satisfying degree.

‼️Content‼️

Language: oh my gosh; dang it; screwed; crap; pervert

Violence: a guy chokes another for insulting a girl

Sexual: a girl is called hot; kissing (not detailed); mild suggestive comments

Drugs/Alcohol: characters club hop but don’t drink any alcohol; wine is drunk at a party

Other: vampires, werewolves, and other magical creatures/beings; magic

“You are a vampire…who is afraid of blood,” I said. “Yes.” I stood up and walked away. “I take it back. This place trashes all fairy tales known to mankind,” I muttered.” – MBRC

My review:

My K.M. Shea obsessed friends, Ashleigh and Cora @Ashleigh.books and @Coraannehurst, recommended me these books a while back. Ok, to be 100% honest, urban fantasy is not my jam. Yes, I will read it but it’s not my book genre preference. And comedy. Gosh, I’m the W O R S T person anyone can with to watch romcoms or comedy shows. I can’t laugh. At all. Having made that clear, I can proudly say I have graduated from boring stone face to level one enjoyer of comedy books..Ladies and gents, these books made me laugh. Aha! When I told my brother about MBRC (Magical Beings Rehabilitation Center) and what they were about the first thing he said was. ”Ok, so when does the movie come out?” lol. They are that good!

K.M. Shea did a masterful job mashing up comedy, urban fantasy, magical creatures, romance, and sassiness, all in three books! BOOM! The product, three clean, enjoyable, relatable, #noblebright, funny, and just awesome books! The MC of the book, Morgan is one of the few teen characters that I’ve read about that truly behaves like a planet earth teen, flaws and all. As much as I would love to say we teens are angels and just perfect human beings, truth is we are not, and Morgan and all the teen characters of the book embodied that aspect perfectly without being. Plot-wise, I loved it! You can really tell the author planned all of her books beforehand because the books conclude perfectly. The pace was very good, though, in the second book, the middle section dragged on a bit, in the end, it was so worth it! Go grab these books and come back here and tell me how you like them! Also, if you buy the ebook set, you get some bonus short stories about the future of the MBRC, and let me tell you, THEY ARE SOOOO GOOD!!!

Cleanness: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️4/5 (some descriptive kisses)

Violence: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️4/5 Non-bloody violence. Just some fighting between good and bad guys.

Characters: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5

Plot ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️4.5/5

I absolutely loved this little series, and to think I almost missed it! At first, it seemed like a tale that wasn't quite my thing. Cute, but vampires? Werewolves? Again? Eh. Aaaand then I read a few more K.M. Shea books and realized that pretty much anything she writes is brilliant and 100% interesting. So I took a gamble and started reading ... and couldn't stop. This world is BRILLIANT. It's like Kitty tracked down all the fairy tales & overused fantasy themes and poked them with a stick. They're all there. ALL of them -- but tweaked. Werewolves ... have fleas. And cyclopes have vision problems. And vampires drink tomato juice (poor Dave). And then at that point, Kitty must've looked at her fantastically unique world and said, "okay, now how do I plus it from here?" because she THEN gifts us with a vampire with hemophobia ... a rather unattractive, balding vampire ... a miniature dragon doodle ... you get the idea. It's just So. Much. Fun. Devin was brilliant, Hunter surprisingly became one of my favorites by the end, and I just loved the snarky camaraderie that builds between Morgan and Aysel.

Readers, please be aware: this is actually a two-book series, with a series of vignettes compiled together as book three. The fully fleshed out story will end with book two, but then you get delightful glances into the characters' futures. If you enter the stories with that in mind, you will find them to be satisfying and fun.

I read this on Kindle Unlimited, but will most definitely grab both the Kindle and the paperback versions. Definitely a keeper-and-rereader.

Good

This is a box set containing the original MBRC story, it’s sequel, and several short stories featuring Morgan, the main character from the series.

In book one, Morgan is accidentally introduced to the magical world, meets many magical beings, and becomes an influential figure in the rehabilitation of magical beings (introducing them to the magical world).
This is a fun and quirky young adult tale, lighthearted and sweet. Since the main character, Morgan L. Fae is sixteen, she has all the arrogance and selfish notions of a sixteen year old, tempered by a good nature.

Book two sees Morgan at eighteen, trying to deal with an unexpected danger within the magical community. This book is a little more serious, but still fun. The romance aspect is there but not really a heavy part of the story, and it still retains the funny relationships and more that the first book does.

The short stories continue Morgan’s story into adulthood, and are just as amusing and fun as the main stories are.

Ultimately this is a quirky, yet entertaining fantasy read. It’s comedic in nature, very lighthearted, and just an enjoyable book that is sure to make any urban fantasy fan smile.

This was the perfect series to get me through a tough week of menial work tasks and stress. I laughed out loud so many times, especially throughout the first two books. Morgan, Devon, Aysel, Fray, Madeline, and all the other characters in this series were an absolute blast, and I honestly just hate that it’s over. Such a fun series, and I highly recommend it!

For the younger set...

Ok, so I loved all the retold fairy tales by this author and her unusual take on the King Arthur saga so was looking forward to this series. Although all of these books have been targeted toward younger readers, this is the first series that made me feel like I was watching an after school program. I hung in there until the final word of the final book but, if this had been the first series I read by this author, I probably would not have gone on to her other books. Having said that, though...I still enjoy her work. I just enjoy the retold fairy tales and other themes more.

imaginative, engaging and totally entertaining

Rating: 4⭐️

The Magical Beings' Rehabilitation Center: The Complete Series is a YA urban fantasy adventure series by K. M. Shea that totally entertaining and full of engaging young fantasy characters from all types of mythology and fantasy worlds.

Comprised of 5 stories that follows a young human high school student, Morgan L. Fae, who stumbles upon the fact that paranormal beings are real, and some even go to school with her.

One is her substitute teacher, others her fellow students. Subsequently, she finds out about the MBRC, Magical Beings' Rehabilitation Center where the fantasy world works towards getting their people integrated into the normal human world and everyday society.

Morgan’s journey to navigate both her sophomore year in high school, along with her crushes, and her new adventures in her first job as a human tutor in the MBRC is humorous, creative, and engaging.

It’s funny, because she has the ability to make her situations seem realistic and stressful no matter who she is dealing with and what world she’s currently in.

What romantic relationships here is limited to a hurried kiss and nothing more.

Adventure, action, fantasy and high school. Just wonderful.

A another winner from this author who’s become an auto-read.

I don't know why but this may be my favorite of Kitty's books. She has so many good ones to choose from but these were the first books I read by her. I mostly read them because I was trying to make a friend and she loved Kitty's books. This book was three in one which would save space on my, at the time, very limited shelving and it caught my attention. On my lunch break at work I'd read about getting cyclops vadly needed glasses and learn a bit of the geography of Chicago. I loved that there were actual stakes in the story like the suppressing of Morgan's memory and Krad. Overall this story is cozy and feels like what I'd imagine reading a hug would be like. I don't use this comparison lightly as most of my absolute top favorite books feel the same to me. I like the rather obvious subversion of common tropes and the commentary on bureaucracy. I like the idea of someone working hard and making a difference for those who need it and have been ignored in the face of bigger issues because making glasses/contacts seems like a small issue. But as someone who wears glasses I know from experience how much it matters. It's how I avoid pedestrians while driving and how I am able to run into doors marginally less than normal. But all joking aside it's about fighting for what's right even when it's small because the small battles matter too. It's why Morgan is able to work to her position in the MBRC.
Anyway what this rambling review is meant to convey is: read this book. And then read all the others.

Very cute series. I thoroughly enjoyed how ‘lightweight’ this was. No angst or heaviness. No unnecessary drama. But enough going for it to keep me thoroughly interested and engaged. Loved that there weren’t REALLY any ‘bad guys’ and absolutely adored the tongue-in-cheek/poking fun of the YA/fantasy genre.

I liked all the characters (which is a first)!! And I also enjoyed that, for the most part, Morgan was a more mature version of most young adults in the young adult books that are out there. She was a little bit overly emotional as teens/YAs are prone to be, and she DID overreact/act impetuously at times, but for the most part, she had a good head on her shoulders. She didn’t let any of the guys turn her into mush or make her act stupid. She didn’t let a guy come between her and her friends. And for the most part, she didn’t do stupid, irresponsible things. Big thumbs up for that.

So glad I gave this series a chance (because I almost didn’t). I would have loved a tiny bit more depth with the love interest, but at the same time, that would’ve made this a completely different type of read AND we got some great satisfaction from book 3 where that is concerned.

I guess what I’m trying to say is that I’d love more books like this (with likable characters, good outcomes, feel-good interactions, interesting plot lines) from this author, but with slightly more depth next time.

3.25 stars. This series is lightweight and fun, but has a bit too much of a high school, teen, which-guy-will-she-end-up-with flavor to fit my taste. I was hoping for more of a Magiford feel, so found myself disappointed.

Not to say it wasn’t enjoyable, the series was funny and I wasn’t at risk of putting it down unfinished. But beyond being too ‘modern teen’, the storyline tended to meander a bit without clear goal or purpose. This made it less engaging as a whole, and more of a casual read than something gripping to capture my attention.

Content:
There were maybe 3 or 4 light swear words throughout the series. The romance was very clean, and there was no real violence to speak of.
As for religious content, the vampire said he believes in the second coming of Jesus Christ, but only as a casual comment. The MC mentions her parents forcing her to go to church a couple of times, but she is not a believer. Despite those few references, the series doesn’t really speak for or against faith or God.

First two books i love!

This series is SO good! There are areas of proofreading that are needed. The third book is so inconsistent it's laughable. The third book isn't necessary to enjoy the books though. This story is funny and filled with some action that really isn't scary just interesting. I can't tell you how much I love the main character! She is awesome and makes the books worth reading all by herself. But it doesn't stop there. I loved all of the characters and the storyline that I was able to mostly ignore the proofreading that should have been done better. I seriously recommend this series! This story makes you feel good and light-hearted. Read this book!!! Would have given 5 stars if proofreading was better and romantic situation with main characters was more developed and fulfilling.

The concept as a whole is adorable!! The side characters are wonderful and magical, and you can't help but fall in love with Devin right away. The only issue is the main character Morgan is really unlikeable. I love this series for the concept and the side characters, but Morgan just fell flat for me. She didn't seem to have a very realistic reaction to the things going on around her. If a teenage girl found out that magic was real and she could be a part of it, she wouldn't say no? I don't know a single teenage girl that would walk away and resist being a part of the magical world. She literally has to be dragged there and it just comes off as pretentious. But if you take away her, the rest of it is so good! I want to rewrite it just for myself but make Morgan less bratty and more likable.

To me, the best parts of this paranormal adventure and romance series were the ending of the second book and a couple of the short stories that follow. Devon's actions toward Morgan moved me to happy tears, and a child's drawing made me laugh out loud.
The series is about a high school girl who stumbles upon a vampire and werewolf. After accepting that she's not hallucinating, she makes friends with many of the creatures, and shakes things up so much that by the end she's helping to run the place.
Unfortunately, the author doesn't believe in proofreading, and has no idea how to write sentences, use punctuation and capitalization, or how words work. I won't get into the specifics as I have eight-four errors flagged.

When you have reservations about a book and realise you were totally wrong.
Ok so i LOVE this author, I have literally devoured nearly everything she has written, however I was not sure I wanted to read this.

I honestly can not put my finger on what it was but it did not grab me and say "you must read me"... After I finished her more current titles I decided I should give this one a go.

Oh my god WHY was I worried??? In less than one chapter I was hooked. The characters, the sass and the adventures just made me smile.
My only thing? I wish there was more...
I really wanted to know how more details about what was going on with certain characters at the end especially once I finished the hidden files and also the "for champions" on KM Shea's website.

I loved this little box set! Now I’ll be totally honest, as far as KM Shea books go, Vampires Drink Tomato Juice (or whatever book 1 is called) was one of my least favorite books she’s written. It was over the top cheesy and had a ton of errors. BUT the things is, Shea writes fantastic stories and I’ve absolutely loved all her other books. She’s a go to author for me when I need something feel good to read.
So while it was one of my least favorite, it was still a fun read.
I rolled into book 2 and couldn’t put it down! It was a fantastic story.
After book 2 was a handful of short stories that had me cheesy grinning late at night when I needed to be sleeping instead.
I’m sad to be done with Morgan Far and the Pookas tale.

silly & sincere PG adventure

Morgan is an unlikely protagonist. She shows affection through rudeness and reacts to magical beings based on human stereotypes that are always wrong. But she is clever — she knows how to manipulate people to get her way— and beings can’t help but love her. And it helps that despite every being being older than her, everyone looks up to her “wisdom” as a human. (Which does keep the storytelling probably appropriate for middle schoolers who are good readers and like fantasy in “the real world”.)

The bulk of the story is told when she is 16, and then 18. All the added vignettes help show her connection with Devon, and how savvy Morgan is with her magical
politics.

I gave this a five star based on the first two books only which I really enjoyed. I loved the characters and the storyline and it was certainly a magic ride. The last book however was a major let down, and really disappointing. If was reviewing that book on its own it would have had one star. I felt the last book was rushed, almost as though the author had had enough of writing that story and it was very rushed and made no sense. The huge gaps in time in the chapters ruined the whole of that book. Had the author of carried on the story throughout those gaps then story would have been as great as the other two, instead it was rushed and ruined the last book. I was so disappointed.

Totally Fun Read

A totally enjoyable read! I could barely decide who to root for aside from Morgan, the main character. All the characters have rich personalities, compelling back stories, and promising futures. Great character arcs!

The storyline (plot) itself is fun, filled with enough surprises to keep one interested, and addictive. I want more! Some of the characters could carry their own story (while still inserting Morgan), especially Fran & Ethan, Hunter, Frey, Aysel, and even Krad.

This series is one to be read over and over! Good for all ages. Thank you for writing such a fun series!

Quite enjoyable

I really enjoyed the world created here. In the first book the central character is definitely a teen and she grows over the course of the series without losing her basic personality. That non-judgmental respect for and acceptance of people (magical or non) and ability to see through their surfaces and find the underlying good (or perhaps her faith that all creatures do have good in them) carries positive messages for any reader regardless of age. This is also well written and edited. There are very few errors across all the books. I will be looking for more from this very creative writer, who was a new author to me.

Buy it, buy it, buy it.

Oh boy. Firstly I read it all the way through without stopping and that rarely ever happens. Secondly the characters are so well rounded and believable. Thirdly I was there, involved in every scene. These books are that well thought out and well written.
I thoroughly enjoyed the omnibus edition. More please, much more.

I was asked to read this by a family member who wanted to make sure it was suitable for her girls to read. I'm not a teenager, I'm 64.

Ok from the first time I read Vampires Drink Tomato Juice I fell in love with K M Shea's books. I loved the snarky interactions between her and the magical work and all of her integration of the magical and nonmagical she had to deal with. Buying this set was definitely even better because now I have all of the stories in one place.
Clean romance, some violence, so much humor, and plenty of worth banter between, well, everyone. If you like rom-com, fantasy, and modernized fairy tales you will love all of this.

More fun than you can imagine

Morgan L Fae is a delightful and entertaining main character and her humorous commentary on her life and experiences with the magical world caused me to laugh multiple times while reading this book. I enjoyed all the characters she got to know and work with and the friendships she built with them. My favorite would have to be the pooka Devon and her goblin guard Harrison that she insists on calling Krusher.
Well written and fun to read, I highly recommend!

Vampire with a pot belly? You really have to check this out!

Talk about a new spin on the supernatural 😄. I read this over two days, really not wanting to put it down. I was worried that it might be a YA story, but I was so taken with the characters and the plot that I just didn't care what it was. I'm pushing 75 and I loved it🤗
My only sorrow is that there is a whole saga here, and it has closed beautifully, a complete story. I can see room for sequels, but this is perfectly formed. You really have to read this!

I have over looked this series for about a year now. I have loved K.M.Shea's other princess retellings and have read most of her books. I was totally judging this book to be a Twilight something and I'm not a huge vampire fan. Oh... but this so much better! I'm sad I waited this long to enjoy it. I have enjoyed the humor and quirky characters. It is a must read and I'm so thankful for the additional stories in the 3rd book. It is what you always want after a good book.

If you are looking for light and fun book series that makes fun of paranormal YA fantasy, this is enjoyable. Morgan is a girl who starts to work for a Magical Beings Rehabilitation Center that live undercover in Chicago after she meets a werewolf and vampire at school. It pokes fun of other werewolf, vampire, and elf fantasies in a way that will make you laugh.

It was on sale on Kindle ebooks for .99, and it was a fun escape novel with light romance and some adventure.

I read this because it was contemporary fantasy back-catalogue from an author who wrote 2 of my favorite trilogies. It wasn't nearly as good. This is young YA. Silly and the young end of PG. Like for 13 year olds. It was entertaining, but not awesome. There was some humor that was entertaining, but the story lines were really convenient and not logical. I got through it because it was a fun, light, humorous read, not because it was all that compelling.

Morgan walks in on the Spanish substitute teacher and a student arguing.... but it's clear that they are not what they seem. And that's how she learns about werewolves, vampires, wizards and unicorns.

Why I started this book: Needed and wanted something completely frivilous to balance out my other books.

Why I finished it: Delivered exactly what I was looking for. And don't we all want to be the most special one, recognized as great for just being who we are.
