*****. A La Sam Spade

This is a fast paced, very enjoyable whodunit short story with a razor sharp prose that befits its genre. The two murder victims are seemingly unrelated, yet we soon find out that might not actually be the case. They are both students and are part of a group working on de-brainwashing their Afghani and Iraqi elders, in an all out effort to prove that not every American is The Devil. As newbie cops bungle evidence, an attractive investigative journalist maintains a high level of surveillance, and surly bartenders and landlords swirl around the case, we slowly find out who’s the killer…
But to me, the star of the show was the main character, Jonathan Stone. He is a tough, ex-marine, secret CIA agent, who definitely shows no signs of adhering to the #MeToo movement. But that’s what I loved about him. The á la Sam Spade inner monologues in his head about his ex female colleague and pretty, mini-skirted women hanging out in gambling casinos were so funny and so spot on characterization wise, I had to laugh. I definitely recommend this book!

Jon hears about a car accident that ends up being the murder of college student He calls Jodi to see what she know and they both start to look into it. Then the next day there is another murder. Are they linked in some way ? Jon thinks he knows what is going on but will need Jodi's help. Can they get to the bottom of this before it's too late ?
