Water Dragons #1

Dragon Hunt

Rate this book
Storm, dragon prince of the Water tribe, has decided to take part in the Bride Hunt for the first time. Does he want a mate? Hell no! Simply put, he’s bored, and the hunt sounds like a whole lot of fun. Also, he could do with a human to warm his bed. Once their allotted time is over, she needs to be on her way. He's far too young to be tied down. The female he wins is welcome to try and change his mind if she feels like it. Try being the operative word.

Jolene is sick of human men. All they want is sex. None are interested in committing to anything long-term. At thirty-four she’s done waiting for her dream man. She wants a husband and a family, and she wants them now. Thrilled doesn't come close to describing how happy she is when she's accepted into the shifter dating program. She’s even more excited when she discovers the shifters are not wolves, as she first thought, but dragons. Who even knew dragon shifters existed? Finally, men who actually want to settle down. Men who aren’t afraid of a woman who knows exactly what she wants.

What a disappointment when the guy who wins her turns out to be an arrogant A-hole. It’s all a game to him. He doesn’t want commitment. What’s worse is that she’s stuck with him for the next couple of weeks. It sucks that she’s a little attracted to him. Okay, okay, make that, a lot attracted to him. He might be an ass, but he's a gorgeous ass.

Should she try and change his mind about not taking a mate? Forget it! She has better things to do. Chasing after a man isn’t one of them.
Should she make his life a living hell? That’s more like it. Right now she’s got nothing better to do anyway.
Is there a chance of her falling in love with him while doing it? Dammit, but it’s a distinct possibility.

Contains hot alpha males and therefore strong sexual themes/language

Hartnady does light, sexy and fun like nobody’s business.

Storm, the youngest of the Water Dragons is bored as fuck.
Decides to join the “Bride Hunt”, not to gain a mate(because he for sure will not commit), but to keep a woman in his bed for 3 weeks.
He is a little full of himself, but he so pulls it off😂

The woman he captures? Probably the woman most focused on getting herself a man because she wants to start a family so bad.
Almost at 35 she feels her inner clock ticking.

They are legit the worst match, and yet... Yet their chemistry is glorious.
One is hellbent on not committing and the other wants nothing more.
Loved how honest they were about where they stood. It was very easy to root for them.
Plus Jolene was a total sweetheart.

There was a lot of delicious tension, and even a little extra drama plot wise.
The story focus heavily on the mating aspect, which is nicely executed, but I sincerely love the extra action about the dragons hiding their existence from the Slayers (hunters killing paranormal creatures).

It gives the story a little extra flavour and I do love it spicy. 😂

Totally hot and sweet.

Dragon Hunt (Water Dragons, #1) is the exciting first installment in the Water Dragons series, which follows The Bride Hunt series. The story revolves around a spoiled dragon prince who believes he is God's gift to women in the bedroom. However, he soon becomes humbled when a human woman seeks a genuine relationship rather than a fleeting romance. That's when the fun begins.

While each book can be enjoyed as a standalone, it's best to read them in order to fully appreciate the rich paranormal elements and exciting themes they offer. The characters must fight to stay alive, but what they discover is even more significant than they ever imagined.

I love the strong, sexy alpha males in protective roles!

We are back with the dragons and what a book it is. We get the water dragons; Storm is bored, so he decides to do the bride hunt to give himself something to do. However, he doesn't realize that he might find his one and only.

Jolene is looking for the one. She wants to get married and have children. Jolene finds that dragons wish the same thing, or at least that is why they do the bride hunt. Little does she know that Storm is just doing it to give himself something to do. When Jolene finds out that Storm is not going to marry her or even try to get to know her to marry her Jolene decides he can go to h*ll and Jolene will find someone else. Too bad, Jolene has to stay with Storm for the next three weeks, or she will be sent home and have no way of being chosen by anyone. So what will happen between these two who are very headstrong? A lot of laughs and sighs. Loved this story!

Dragon Hunt (Water Dragons1) Jolene & Storm

Dragon Hunt is about Storm and Jolene, two people are completely opposites. Storm wants to have fun and Jolene wants forever and babies. This book has everything, romance, steamy scenes, comedy, and a little action.

I love that this book is part of this while world that Charlene Hartnady has built. I have read every book in this world and wait impatiently for the next one to come out. This is a stand-alone and can be read by itself but I always feel this whole world is best read by starting at the very beginning.

I mostly give this series 5 stars because I love this series so much but there are several grammar issues throughout this book and I find it distracting from the story.

I would love to review and edit all books by Charlene *hint hint*, not as an editor but as an avid reader who loves this series and just wants to see it be the best!

Read it!

Golden boy and sweet lips 😍

Good start to this new series by Charlene! Storm is bored with most aspects of his life and has decided to join the next hunt, where the dragons each fight over the human females for a chance at mating and whelps. However, Storm gets more than he bargained for......Jolene is almost thirty-five, she literally is all about work and more work! She gets accepted into the shifter breeding program and is stunned when it turns out that it’s dragons, which wasn’t what she was expecting. Storm is clearly a player and has it written all over him with his body language and cocky attitude. So when Jolene turns him down, he finds himself feeling challenged and tries to put his best foot forward:)

Interested to see what happens next with the humans that are coming into their territory!

I think this was my least fave of her books so far. I did not enjoy the constant fighting. Storm really was an ahole. Jolene, while I understood her back story and therefore why she was the way she was, she still annoyed me. I understood and was right there with her on some of her reactions to Storms actions and then she do something that really did not fit at all just not the way I'd hope she'd react.

I also really did not like that none of the other humans or even the mated female dragons came to visit her at all. That part seamed really off to me.

Overall this one was just frustrating for most of the story.

Honestly I was rooting for Hail. I hope we get to see him a bit.

I have never been so disgusted by one of your charters but this one takes the cake. He shouldn’t have a book, shouldn’t get a mate…. Nobody desires someone like this unless they want to be played and we certainly don’t daydream or want to read about men like this.

“ He should just leave. Turn around right then and head back into the fray. He could easily steal another male’s female. He could do it in a heartbeat. They would come willingly. No work, no fuss. He’d have his cock wet within the hour.”

Just WOW!!!! What a jerk!

4.5 This was a delightful read! The author took a simple concept, a normal career driven woman who is just freaking tired of waiting for her happy ever after, and put a wonderful spin on it. I really loved it.

Jolene our 34 yo FMC is sick of the dating scene, all she wants is a husband and kids. She signs up for this supernatural “dating program” called the hunt and after a rigorous vet process she is excepted! She is ecstatic to finally have the chance to meet some males who want the same things she does. I have to take the time to say Kudos to the author for imagining up the hunt which is straight freaking genius and it is worth reading the book just to read about the hunt! I don’t want to give too much away but I cannot wait to read more of the hunt success stories!

Storm our Golden playboy prince of the water dragons joins the hunt because he is a spoiled brat and is bored out of his mind. Expecting to hunt a female and make her his plaything for a couple weeks and be done! The shifter “instincts” in this are clever and really being the story together!

What I love the most about this book is despite all the golden shifter male gloriousness our FMC never losses sight of what she wants, she never falls in line, and she is brutally honest! Gah I want to just spill the whole plot out but I’m barely holding it in!!

To all the strong women out there who can bring a rake to heal and make them beg, sweat and cry for more, much love biotches!

This book wasn’t amazing, but it wasn’t particularly bad either, so I’m going to go with a solid 3-stars. I have to admit that I didn’t really like Storm as a person - he was just too stubborn and selfish for my liking. Don’t get me wrong, I like a strong alpha male, but he was just a little too much. I also didn’t realize that this was a spin off of another series, so maybe I would have enjoyed it more if I had read the original. I might have to give that series a try and then reevaluate my review. Either way, if you’re looking for a quick, hardcore(?) read, then this is the book for you! Happy reading!

second half was better than the first half

The first half of the book went just like this over and over:
Dragon: I want to f—- you
Human: no way are you getting the milk for free! I want marriage and babies!
Everyone else: I can smell that you are turned on, human.
Human: ewwww!

Over and over. I love dragon shifter romance but unfortunately I won’t be reading any more of the series.

2.5 ⭐️ Not my fav. I felt like it was repetitive. I don’t like you. I don’t like you. Just sex. Okay fine I do like you. I do like you. Yes you like me.
I liked J in the beginning but at the end she just gave up. We didn’t get to find out what happy with her career that she wanted so bad or what happens with them two.

No means no?

The sex in these books is really hot. The problem is Storm is pretty much a complete douche. Why does Jolene like him? She says repeatedly that she doesn't, but falls in love with him anyway? The first sex scene is practically rape.

Slow Burn - Must Read - Loved it!

I have been reading Ms. Hartnady for years now, since the beginning with "The Chosen" series. If you're looking for a paranormal with a little bit of everything, she can definitely offer you that. She doesn't limit her stories to just one shifter species, she incorporates them all. Each book is creative and completely unique as the characters she writes. She just has a way of keeping you enticed so you don't want to put the book down.

Storm was arrogant but honest about his intentions in what he was looking to see happen from the beginning. Jolene didn't have to like it but she did respect it. She challenged him like no other and made him work for every inch of headway from the start and finally managed to relax a bit and enjoy her time with him. Jolene was a very strong character and was able to follow through with her goals. She knew what she wanted, stayed true to herself and did not settle for less.  This story is so good.

I will say this, I read one review where the person was complaining about the use of the word f***. In reality the word is actually not used that often throughout the book and when it was it was applicable. I think she blew it out of proportion and anyone who reads her review will definitely think the wrong thing. Honestly, she has a problem with the word f***, but she didn't say a single word about, shall we say, some of the character's  sexual proclivities. Are you kidding me?

She obviously needs to purchase her books from the Christian, Pure and Wholesome section. To be clear, there is nothing wrong with that genre, I actually read this type of story occasionally myself and am a fan of Natalie Dean. I would even recommend starting with the "Hero Hearts" series. The series is historical & contemporary based so you get a variety of authors to choose from and timelines. It is rare to find any book outside this category or historical's that doesn't use foul language.  When you are telling a story, sometimes those words are necessary.  Even our beloved historical's use their own brand of foul language.

The point is, THAT reviewer is clearly choosing from the wrong category and should not be publicly complaining about something that is a personal issue for HER. It wasn't about the book, it was about her personal issues. ALL of my books must be HEA's and I hate cliffhangers. But when I read one I didn't leave my review based on what my personal issues were. I left my review based on the quality of the book. How developed were the characters? Did the plot keep have any twist, did it keep me engaged throughout? Were there any favorite moments and were there any characters that made a lasting impression on me? Yes, authors want our personal opinions but we still need to maintain some professional decorum.

These are the situations that author's try to avoid, the very reason they agonize over their descriptions. They need to give you the, what I call the "red flag" moments, while gaining your interest in their story without giving it away. If they are professional enough, they will make every effort to include all those important details. If you see something that your not sure of, you can Google it or contact them directly for clarification. THAT reviewer certainly didn't read the description as it clearly stares, "Guaranteed HEA! No cheating. Contains hot alpha males and therefore strong sexual themes/language."

I really hope you do not let THAT review become a deterrent in deciding whether or not you are going to read the book, or any of Ms. Hartnady's books. I would hate for anyone to turn away the opportunity to read based on that.

I have NEVER had contact with the author, I am NOT a beta reader for her nor do I do her ACR (advanced reader copy). I'm just a fan who happens to enjoy reading her books and thinks that review was a cheap shot. I hope you give the book a chance and that you enjoy it as much as I have. Happy Reading!

3 It's just a Game STARS

This is my first book by Charlene Hartnady and it won't be the last! This is Book #1 but what I didn't realize is this was a spin off of the original series: The Bride Hunt which consists of 7 books. I feel like had I read the previous original 7 books I would have had a better understanding of the world as we were told very little in this book.
I enjoyed their banter. I enjoyed how she gave us a Hero Storm who needed to grow up... he needed to mature and realize the Playboy he was wasn't the Man he could be. We also saw something I don't see often in Romance books... we saw sex that was eh ok. I was slightly taken back. I mean when is sex ever "eh ok" with a sexy hero? It was great to see she went there! She made him realize he wasn't all that and a bag a chips. He needed to think of other people.

I was slightly disappointed that Jolene still in a way chased after a man even in the last scenes. He should have came to her not the other way around. A big turn off for me was when she asked for a man who hadn't had sex with any Dragon Females because that was a Huge turn off. What? She isn't a virgin how dare she judge these men for having casual sex. She made it seem like Dragon Ladies were less than in that scene and I didn't like it AT ALL.

I can't wait to start with the first Series then make my way back this this one... I SO want to read about Flood!!! He sounds like my Kinda Bad Boy Dragon!!

I loved it!

Warning: mature sexual content, mature themes, and language.

It was so enticing that I couldn’t put it down, this book grabbed my interest from the very first page. I couldn’t put it down, I had to know what happened next. The story is well written with a very good storyline. This is book one of four in The Water Dragon series.
(Set in the same world The Chosen Series)

Storm, dragon prince of the Water tribe, has decided to take part in the Bride Hunt for the first time, but he doesn’t want a mate, simply put, he’s bored, and the hunt sounds like a whole lot of fun. Also, he could do with a human to warm his bed, and once their allotted time is over, she needs to be on her way. She has better things to do than try and change his mind about not taking a mate, so chasing after him is big no. She still plans to make his life a living hell, for right now she’s got nothing better to do anyway. There is a distinct chance of her falling in love with him while doing it. So with all that and more this story pulls you in and holds you tight. It’s a must read. I highly recommend to everyone.

Great start to the new Series!!

I love Storm!!! He's such jerk but God I love him even more because of it!! Storm decides to join in the bride hunt, why you ask? Because he's bored of course! What better way to cure his boredom then finding a delicious human to chase and then have his way with for three hole weeks. Jolene is sick of play boys every man she's ever been with ultimately ends up leaving her saying they won't commit and they end up married next time she sees them. So she decides to apply to the bride hunt because she has heard that shifters are more serious about mating then human men are and that's all she wants is a loving man and a family. So when she strikes out on her adventure the last thing Jolene expected was to end up with not only another play boy but The Prince of Play boys! Storm is determined to get into bed with Jolene, he is intrigued by this human who turned him down. Jolene doesn't want to be anywhere near Storm he's trouble with a capital T and she knows how this will end with her heartbroken. However Storm is determined to have her but Jolene is just as determined to prove to him she doesn't want him who will stay strong or who will give in Read and find out Game on!

I know I am not partial to Charlene Hartnady’s work, I’m fond of all her series.
And this book is a must read for me as it is the redeeming of a too full of himself player.
It made me thought about Lance, with a different heroine and setting.
Jolene is a nice and kind heroine, she might be a little pushy but she knows what she is looking for. She has no time for cad, she wants to settle down before it is too late for her. The shifters program is maybe her answer.
Well, until she was won by the wrong dragon, a jerk who thought only to get fun during the bride hunt.
I loved to see Storm works for once to win her as she from the beginning understood what he was!
Storm is all puffy chest and hyper ego, never he had to fight before to attract a woman, as Jolene says, she is the one in control, her hormones can go to hell, she didn’t sign up for less than love, family and kids.
He was not an easy one to like at first, so proud of his little self and not aware of anything except himself.
It was fun to see him work to become someone else than the selfish one he has always been.
Jolene didn’t deserved him, but slowly he will try his best to become a better friend if not more.
In all it was a very good introduction to this new series with a new background plot.

Oh, the chemistry!

We meet Storm, the dragon prince of the Water tribe and Jolene in this first book of the Water Dragons series. Storm decides that he wants to take part in the Bride hunt, although he doesn't really have any intention or desire to take a bride. He's bored and looking for a little fun. Jolene, on the other hand, is dead serious about finding her forever mate. she's done wasting time on the wrong guys. From the moment they meet, sparks fly! Jolene gives Storm a well deserved run for his money while Storm learns what it's like to have sexual attraction turn into so much more! Will he let her go or try and keep her, that is the question. What a great start to this series!

If I were to pick the one thing that really stood out in this book for me, it would be the chemistry and sexual banter. These two were hilarious! Finding a great romance is awesome. Finding a great romance with humor, serious chemistry and a little action and danger thrown in all equals perfection in my book!

This books guarantees a HEA along with a lot of hot alpha male attitude! Language and sexual themes are present. Well worth the read and a definite 5 stars for me!

Glad that the previous series is continuing!

Jolene is thirty four and has been wanting marriage and children for a while. But when she tells her last few boyfriends, they say they aren't ready for that kind of commitment and leave. So she has applied to become a shifter bride and she was one of six out of thousands to qualify.
Storm is bored with life, so he enters into the bride hunt. He wants to have fun with a human for three weeks, not mate with her and then send her back home. When Jolene sees him during the hunt she offers to let another contestant go with him because she figures out he is a player. Storm has never had anyone deny him anything before, so he sees her as a challenge.
Storm is an egotistical dragon and Jolene is just the person to put him in his place. Even if she is attracted to him she doesn't give in to him.
I am so glad that the bride hunt is continuing. I loved the previous series. I look forward to the next book! Hopefully Flood with get his HEA soon too!

Us older women need romance too.

Dragon Hunt Water Dragons Charlene Hartnady
There are 4 types of dragons: earth, water, air, and fire. This series is ALL about the water dragons.
She was done! Not only was she done with trying to find a partner, she was done with human men in general. Jolene bit down on her bottom lip, thinking of the letter inside her purse. She’d been accepted her bags are packed she put her I noticed at work. It was now or never she is thirty- four will turn thirty- five in two months’ time and that's the cut-off.
Storm for some reason put his name in for the hunt. He is not ready to settle down no he has a lot of playing to do yet.
Men never see it coming and neither did Storm. This is a great book. It let's the OLDER woman find her HEA. No 20 something story romance to pine over. I have read these series out of order but I still love them and have lost nothing / understood them still. I still trying to pick my favorite. Will it be the water? Are the other dragons? Guess I need to read all the books to answer that question.

I have been saving my favourite authors in a fear of not having great books to read when other reading material is disappointing. Time to start reading and change my fear to 'if the power goes off'. (Analogy? My mother never let us light the two Xmas candles that were dragged out every year since I can remember. After her death, I found those candles, as just blobs of wax after melting in the hot attic).
Charlene Hartnady is a wonderful writer who weaves very engaging stories. I love 'The Program' series, the beginning, and the start to me checking off most of her novels as 'want to read'. However, I didn't get the same wow as I remember in my previous readings and I prefer dragons over vampires. Hot, sexy, fun and some humour between the two MC's characters but low on the 'dragon' theme. I also wasn't left with that overwhelming desire for the next book as other single characters were too minimized. Still, a very good read.

Stay healthy.....and don't put off sharing who matters to your heart!

As per usual Charlene Hartnady delivers on humor, crudeness and plenty of sexual scenes. I loved this book I laughed pretty hard and enjoyed the back and forth between the main characters.

Character breakdown;

Jolene: she was funny if a little too uptight but I loved how down to earth she also felt. Loved even more that she was curvy I can relate to the boob sweat.

Storm: certify a**hole, selfish and a bit immature. A typical alpha if you will lol. But I always love to see the mighty fall on their knees when they realize they were wrong. It was lovely to see how he had changed though, bruised ego and all.

The book was a fun time and very entertaining, I just wished the ending wasn't left so open ended but it was still a great and fun read! Can't wait for the next book to come out!

I enjoyed the sparky relationship between Storm & Jolene. Storm takes part in the Dragon Hunt but is only doing it because he is bored with life & wants a bit of fun. Jolene is a successful business woman who has signed up for the Hunt as she is running out of time for a permanent relationship having been let down by all her previous human relationships. She doesn’t have time for Storm & his attempts to use her for a bit of fun.
Jolene sticks to her guns which confuses Storm & his stubbornness.
This is the first in a spin off from the Bride Hunt series & I liked that we touched with previous characters in this book.
I was lucky enough to be given an ARC in exchange for an honest review & do not hesitate to recommend this book to all PNR & Dragon Shifter fans

A terrific beginning to the Water Dragon's series!

This was a great start to the Water Dragon's series! Full of terrific characters, a cocky and spoiled dragon prince, a strong independent woman who knows what she wants, humor, sexy intimate scenes, and unexpected twists that are intriguing through the end. I'm looking forward to this series, and can't wait to start the next book.

It's not necessary to read the previous series' in order to understand this book, but I would highly recommend that you read all of them. It will not only give you an insight into the Program and the Bride Hunt, as well as how they came to be, but they're all fantastic stories that you really won't want to miss!

I would definitely recommend this book, series, and fantastic author.

2 1/2 stars. A solid paranormal romance. Storm is a little too self-centered for my own liking but at least he does grow up a bit in this book. I also found Storm just a little too crude. Jolene is sick of players but oh, way too serious from the gate is scary off guys. She does finally realize that she is making guys feel like their being interviewed for their sperm not first and foremost as a person you might want to get to know. There is a spark between the two of them which I enjoyed.

There is an ongoing story line that runs through the books but it is easy enough to figure out so that this can be read alone. Though, part of the fun is seeing these side characters get a chance of a love of their own.

Solid but didn't stand out from many others either.

I love the dynamic in this book! Jolene is so strong and serious while Storm is very cocky and arrogant. I like that she is teaching him more than he is teaching her but there still learning from each other. I like the switch that the girl is teaching the guy about sex. This book is so hilarious I love it when Storm is like, “ is that your best?” Or like, “ Was I The best you’ve ever had?” And Jolene answer is no and he seems so shocked. And then when he goes to ask other people and they answered no, it’s just awesome! The challenges that they gave each other was a huge part of the book. Charlene is so imaginative and different in her writing. I can’t wait to see what the next book is going to be about. Charlene Hartnady you rock!

A slow burning, heat-filled love story!
Storm, arrogant prince that he is, just wants to have some fun for a few weeks. Choosing Jolene at the bridal hunt means that her one-time chance will be wasted on a commitment-phobe. Storm has some (rather painful) lessons to learn about what it takes to be ‘the best.’
I love that Jolene takes a stand, doing her best to wait for love. It just doesn’t work out as she envisions!
This book is delightful! The author takes many of the clichés we use regarding men, women, and sex to portray Storm and Jolene’s courtship. It’s fun, funny, poignant, and sweet as can be!

Very Good Series OVER 18 Reading

Storm (Golden Boy) a water dragon prince joins the mating hunt but has no plans to really mate the woman he captures. Jolene (Sweet Lips) a human woman who wants a husband and family joins the hunt and is caught by Storm. On finding out his plan she lets him know that if no mating no sex which was all he wants for three weeks. Everyone had tried to warn him that this would not go his way , but even royal shift men can be to stubborn for their own good.Which leads to a very good story as these two try to fight each other and their growing attachment to each other. If course his family and friends try to help.
